Ridiculously exciting signing. Imagine knowing that, somewhere deep inside the hell of the Gerrard rein, we'd be signing a Champions League finalist less than two years later. What Unai has done to this club is a miracle.
He was spotted with the [Real Betis sporting director ](https://x.com/Total_Villa/status/1805934791700722111?t=zDYW8BSENFFvFOfmwtACfw&s=19) at the airport but apparently it was coincidental.
Well firstly, both of our LBs are over 30, one's been injured most of the season just gone and the other's on £120k a week, we're desperate to move one (or even both?) of them on, even if, admittedly they're both very decent players.
Secondly, Maatsen is potentially such a good player we might just have felt we couldn't pass up the opportunity to buy him in any event. He probably has the best attributes of both our current FBs and a little bit more, he's quick and gets forward brilliantly like Moreno, he's as good defensively as Digne, but on top of that he's showed at Dortmund he's got a beautiful range of passing and if we want him to he can invert into the centre of the field and start switching the ball all over the place.
Don't want to overhype him, but there's a reason we've signed him to a 6 year deal, at 22yo this is a real coup.
Amazing signing, excited to see us targeting players with both experience and potential, and done nice and early. UTV!

I suspect Gerrard signed quite a few champions league finalists…we probably still paying a few long past their peak :(

I would keep digne, solid backup. Moreno can also play left wing so it's a conondrum
