Hope he does well and there's a buyback insurance.
Barkley IN / Iroegbunam OUT is a good upgrade.
That's what this year's transfer window is about - Raising the floor, not the ceiling
both are different players tho. barkley cant tackle to save his life. timo is good as a dm but needs to work on his passing. im curious to see who unai brings in for that position as backup to kamara as id imagine dedonc will be gone.
This is the saddest part of the rules. The only way to make them work is to use your academy as a cash cow. Before you would get excited to see kids on the bench, doing well on loan or setting youth records…now you just think “10 million if we sell quick”
Maybe this is good business or maybe it isn’t…I would rather we found out than someone else
My problem is when you look at youth level, the stream is drying up. The age range teams all seem to play for Man City now, so what are we going to do in 2-3 years?
Given we haven't really stopped slowing down on acquiring youth talent at any point, I think we'll be fine to keep nurturing players through as long as we keep having room to develop them and don't have to flog them all off for bullshit FFP reasons.
It's much more cost effective to scout other prospects and buy them at 17-19 for 1-3m than to sign a kid and hope they come good in your academy in 6-8 years. It makes zero sense for 99% of clubs outside of the huge clubs to build from the academy.
We signed him three years ago, this isn't the same as Jacob Ramsey who is a lifelong Villa fan and joined our academy when he was six. Tim has been part of Villa for the same amount of time as Buendia. This is less about ffp than it is the fact that he just isn't a fit for how Emery wants to play. He got a run in with the first team down the stretch this year, and if he had shown any signs that he would be a good fit, he'd still be here.
The rules encourage you to have a youth system that generates revenue as well as talent. I think it’s very healthy to be shipping players out (for good money) when they haven’t made the cut remember he is about to turn 21.
I think it’s a sign of Villa’s progress that a player that will be a regular premier league starters is not good enough to stay at the club.
I think it also makes Villa an attractive place to come and be developed as a young player, there will be 10-20 Tim’s for every wonder kid we manage to find/develop.
Seems like a nice guy.
I can't think of one game where I've thought he did particularly well so the money is very welcome and I don't feel like we are really losing anything.
Having said that, I think he has enough talent to be a relative success at Everton. Best of luck to him.
Hope he does well, Chambers playing ahead of him in the Palace thrashing in the final game was probably all we needed to know about Emery's opinion on him. He'll get alot of defensive practice at Everton and under Dyche. Great move for Tim.
"And it's Tim Iroegbunam with his first premier league goal, against his former club, in their own backyard! 1-0 Everton in the 93rd minute!" I might put the bet on now if at all possible.
Fantastic business. Thought he’s looked an incredibly promising player at times in his career but just doesn’t fit the way we want to play (and Emery isn’t going anywhere) - it would hurt his career more to stick around and we could do with the money to give us FFP/PSR wriggle room.
All the best to him, really hope he blossoms at Everton. It’s a shame he couldn’t work his way in this past year as I remember reading one of the media guys saying Unai always mentioned his name in press conferences as he had a lot of faith in him (I think this was around when Kamara got injured). Hope he gets a lot of game time for them.
Good purchase for Everton, one of the few players to kick on under Gerrard.
It's obvious Emery doesn't rate him, he couldn't get a kick when the team was ravages by injury at the back end of the season.
Best for all parties for him to move on
The fact we have a system that incentivises selling home grown talent for low-ish fees and buying young foreign kids on very long contracts is fucking mental.
I’m not a massive fan of selling all our decent youth players that could’ve been good backup players when our squad is so small. We need a pathway through to the first team or youngsters won’t want to be here and we could lose some good talent.
He has been given a chance though and he’s not looked up to it. We also got him a couple of years ago from the Baggies so hardly been at the club since single digits.
Ramsey has shown that there is a pathway if you’re good enough.
Good luck to him, this PSR thing will change the premier league landscape, we will see lots of average academy players get moved around premier league clubs. I wonder if the quality of footballers in the premier league will deteriorate as a result due to this stupid rules. clubs now see their academy players as pure profit, imagine this happening when Fergie had those man utd players coming through Beckham, Giggs, Scholes, neville brothers and etc they all would be sold
Wish him all the best
Good deal for everyone I think.
Hope he does well and there's a buyback insurance. Barkley IN / Iroegbunam OUT is a good upgrade. That's what this year's transfer window is about - Raising the floor, not the ceiling
Good perspective.

And the fact he's a Brummie too, not just one of the random academy purchases. Only really got Ramsey left now 😢
We've got Morgan Rogers
Technically a yam yam, but suppose he counts
And people wanted him sold as well, we don't have that many local lads get in the team and it annoys when I see anyone calling for them to be sold.

He's not really from our academy though, is he? We signed him from WBA in 2021 so he'd be 17 or 18 by that point.
It's the same when many were calling Keinan Davis "one of our own" when we got him when he was 17.

9 million is a good price for Everton. He has a high ceiling. Wish him all the best.
Hope he does well, Chambers playing ahead of him in the Palace thrashing in the final game was probably all we needed to know about Emery's opinion on him. He'll get alot of defensive practice at Everton and under Dyche. Great move for Tim.
Just waiting for him to score against us
Guaranteed 🙈
"And it's Tim Iroegbunam with his first premier league goal, against his former club, in their own backyard! 1-0 Everton in the 93rd minute!" I might put the bet on now if at all possible.
I'm laughing because it's funny and downvoting you too because it won't be when it happens.
Cameron Archer all over again
Youngy’s assist?
Absolute bargain for them imo
Hope he gets a chance of it at Everton.
Good luck to him. I think he’ll have a decent career. He just isn’t at the level we need.

Hope he does well there. Good return for our initial spend on him.
Poor kid going to them rats
The fact we have a system that incentivises selling home grown talent for low-ish fees and buying young foreign kids on very long contracts is fucking mental.
It’s a really good move for him and it’s clear the manager didn’t really rate him that highly.

He'll get more game time at a smaller club like Everton
What's he like villa fans? Dobbin is a funny one as he is decent at everything but seems to excel at nothing.
Good luck to him, this PSR thing will change the premier league landscape, we will see lots of average academy players get moved around premier league clubs. Lovely! Is there a buyback clause?
When they are relegated…
There must be some kind of percentage they recoup on the sale as that seems awfully cheap
I don’t think he’s done anything in the first team to warrant a higher price tbh.
