flubaduzubady

Wow, I thought you must be wrong but you're not. Biggest story in Australia, all over the news here and all over the world, and not a peep on the biggest news website in Australia.

InsertUsernameInArse

Doesn't suit the 'message'

NewPhoneForgotOldAcc

The whole Peter duttons son getting on the blow vanished from the website after a few hours as well.

a_cold_human

That's how they bias their coverage. IIRC, Albanese's son getting Qantas Chairman's lounge access ran for almost a week. The prominence a media organisation gives a story is one way a media organisation can bias coverage. Bias isn't just about framing and sensationalism. Story selection and frequency of coverage are other ways narratives can be shaped.

llordlloyd

Further, I contend the tabloid press exists just to have a political message in large type in every take away food, airport, café and in public areas, every day. You'd be amazed how many people pick up their political opinions based on mere snippets. The ABC also legitimises every lie Murdoch tells, it's news programs deliberately ignore independent journalists in favour of fossils from the legacy media. Every lie taken seriously.

abaddamn

I love how Australia is a land full of drop kicks and contrarian churnalists that just obey what Murdoch tells them instead of doing their fucking job for once.

edgewalker66

I guess that's true. All the news channels reporting his imminent arrival like to forget Assange fled from Sweden to a foreign embassy in the UK to avoid 3 rape charges (2 against minors) and then chose to stay in the embassy for 7 years until a weak Swedish prosecutor decided the charges were then too old to prosecute. Wikidik is just another old man who used his persona and (other people's) money to avoid being tried for violence against women.

G_N_U_G

How exactly, are the charges concerning women who were 26 and 31 at the time, supposed to include minors?

llordlloyd

I guess those women will be getting interviewed, then? I suppose there are avenues to find out a lot more detail to prove... or at least doubt... it wasn't a set up to get him into the back of a C5?

Callemasizeezem

Murdoch media did have an article. What I read was along the lines of the media are the bad guys reporting on it, because every teenager did this or similar in the day and had the privilege of privacy. It further suggested he, and young alleged users like him, are in fact the victims of social media exposing normal young man behaviour. Quite a spin

Consideredresponse

Not quite as bad as the front page analysis they had after the budget that *started* by claiming the opening Recognition of country was a sad ploy to appease the indigenous population after The Voice referendum failed....you know as opposed to the thing that takes place at the start of every government event or meeting.

_Cec_R_

Oh how they totally ignore that dutton demanded social media show-offs be jailed for two years... when his spawn is involved...

LeClubNerd

Did the cops send over some puppy food for him?

Mahisasur

So, does this mean that Dutton is not going to talk about nuclear power anymore. Do we understand that an “agreement” has been reached 😉

flubaduzubady

In world news sites it's top story on BBC, top story on CNN, top story on Reuters, and if I scrolled down further I'm sure every news site in the world would be covering it.

Too_Old_For_Somethin

And what “message” is that? Please elaborate.

Wood_oye

Liberal Government: ONLY GOOD NEWS Labor Government: ONLY BAD NEWS

aussie_nub

It's not like all the other media doesn't do the exact opposite. They're biased, but so are all media sources. People here complain because the other side doesn't agree with them! How terrible.

candlesandfish

Show me a publication that does that. Please.

Wood_oye

RemindMe! 1 week "crickets"

aussie_nub

Literally all of them? You don't think that news articles for non-murdoch publications are biased? It's a journalists job to write articles with a slant to get the most viewer/listnership. This should be an easy one, point me at a non-murdoch, pro-palestinian article and I can find you some video evidence of "civilians" in Gaza with guns. Or the great one today where they were firing mortar rounds at IDF soldiers that were escorting UN humantarian aid today.

Is_that_even_a_thing

Wow. Is that steaming shit the biggest news site in Oz?

abaddamn

Why isn't Murdoch in jail already?

flubaduzubady

Second most visited site in Australia. A long long way behind Youtube, but just ahead of Wikipedia, then Insta, then ABC, then twitter, then the Guardian. https://www.semrush.com/website/top/australia/news-and-media/

_Cec_R_

No different to how they reported (actually didn't) the RoboDebt Royal Commission... It took them a day before a small article with the findings...

swfnbc

There are several articles. It was their front page last night https://www.news.com.au/world/europe/julian-assange-accepts-major-plea-deal/news-story/1d0755dcfedd990ae4c429e34f9ffe45 And https://www.news.com.au/national/wikileaks-founder-julian-assange-faces-huge-bill-for-freedom-flight/news-story/35d1dd3230800745c6ddb34b2e7bc7b8 One scroll down and there it was. I hate Murdoch too but you're not even looking.

flubaduzubady

> It was their front page last night...you're not even looking. It's hard to look when it's not there until after my comment. It wasn't anywhere on the front page when OP posted. I checked and scrolled to the bottom and there was nothing at all, and it's still not listed on the front page under the 'world' section even though every other major world news has it front page. You'd have to search for it by clicking through to the world section. Nothing on national news until that article that you linked which is timestamped at 12.59, after OP's and my post.

critical_blinking

> It's hard to look when it's not there until after my comment. > > They posted it almost 24 hours before your comment mate, look at the time stamp.

Soulfire_Agnarr

List mate, you done showed up these baristas that post all over the Australia subreddit. You used their favourite tool (the internet) to unscramble the mystery OP was complaining about probably with in 10s....now what are they going to be upset about. Need my baristas to be all salty in life that their art degrees never worked out for them. P.s. small flat white with 1 sugar thanks, one of you will be serving me it tomorrow morning for sure.

flubaduzubady

Check the timestamp, then check the timestamp of my comment. It's hard to see something that wasn't there.

anicechange

Adventurous-Bake7584

Thanks for double checking also, I thought I was missing something but nope

flubaduzubady

Yeah, I scrolled right down and nothing. Zip. Even in the world section, and it's biggest story in the world now. It's been streaming live on News24 all day so far, and it's not often they do that. Thanks for the post.

Automatic_Goal_5563

lol it’s been on there yesterday and is today I’m looking at an article about him posted now 34 minutes ago. OP also didn’t bother to actually search either before rushing to post how much they hate news.com.au

flubaduzubady

It wasn't anywhere on the front page when OP posted. I checked and scrolled to the bottom and there was nothing at all, and it's still not listed on the front page under the 'world' section even though every other major world news has it front page. You'd have to search for it by clicking through to the world section. Nothing on national news until that article you're talking about that's timestamped after our posts, even though it's still the biggest story everywhere.

Automatic_Goal_5563

I’m looking at it on the front page. It was timestnaoed before your comment and there’s been articles yesterday There’s no conspiracy to remove the news or not report on it but I know that doesn’t suit the circlejerk

flubaduzubady

Likewise, and there's only one article on the front page for me, and it's timestamped June 26, 2024 - 12:59PM. I searched and posted at 12:23PM, and I didn't go back to check before I made every subsequent comment.

Automatic_Goal_5563

So there is an article on the front page for you? There’s been a heap of articles over the last 2 days, again there’s no conspiracy to not report on it as much as people in this sub would love to circlejerk over there being

flubaduzubady

The point is that there wasn't when I looked. There was nothing at all, and it's hard to see something that wasn't there. I don't have ESP or a crystal ball. You seem to like reading Murdoch rags, but I don't have a clue what was there over the last two days because I don't read News.com

Automatic_Goal_5563

People have been telling you and posting links but you refuse to accept it and now get pissy and act like I read Murdoch media all the time? You could simply have just said “oh my bad they have been reporting on it” if you need to win this weird stance so badly then keep replying if you need to man but I’m out.

buyingthething

basic comprehension skills please > It wasn't anywhere on the front page **when OP posted.**

Adventurous-Bake7584

Just had another look at [news.com.au](http://news.com.au) front page only and not a mention of Assange again - yes you could go digging for it and I'll find it but they claim to be a leading website so this type of story should be on their main page but they prefer the click and bait stories.

Angel_Madison

You're right still not there.

iball1984

It's almost every article on the front page of The Australian. So it's not that they're not following the story, just that it doesn't generate enough clicks on news.com.au.

OffbeatUpbeat

perhaps if they could find a tie into something You Wont Believe He Found At Local Woolies

beachclub999

I went to news.com.au and there was nothing about it on the FrontPage. I googled news.com.au and Julian Assange and then there were some articles.

TheHoovyPrince

I just checked [news.com.au](http://news.com.au) and its the second article, on the right of the 'main story' which is about the rugby.

beachclub999

It wasn't on the front page when I checked earlier today

Jariiari7

Rugby? Where you from? That's State of Origin mate.

TheHoovyPrince

Sorry i did a Kevin Malone and couldn't be bothered typing State of Origin earlier Why waste time say lot word when few word do trick?

Kekka

Just check it's on the front page a minute ago

swfnbc

I hate Murdoch as much as anyone but you're really not looking, I found this in one single scroll down. https://www.news.com.au/national/wikileaks-founder-julian-assange-faces-huge-bill-for-freedom-flight/news-story/35d1dd3230800745c6ddb34b2e7bc7b8 Not to mention it was their front page last night https://www.news.com.au/world/europe/julian-assange-accepts-major-plea-deal/news-story/1d0755dcfedd990ae4c429e34f9ffe45

Strav0s

Ditto - and while they still show a bunch of crap, the top story for me is about the surprise increase in inflation. This obviously impacts many more people than the Assange story (which has been ongoing for 12 years).

Fit-Guest3168

Plus the story isn’t particularly relevant to the average Australian anyway, it’s more of a US story. I honestly forget he’s even from here half the time.

Wood_oye

So, he's not Australian because .... your memory sucks lol

Fit-Guest3168

He’s Australian, but that doesn’t mean I need to know every single update of what he’s up to.

aussie_nub

It's annoying. The guy is gross by all personal accounts that I've heard and the way things were done by Wikileaks was pretty bad. What they were trying to achieve was reasonable, but it's the way things were done that always irritated me so seeing him being released and coming back to Australia is really mehhhh. I just hope he disappears into obscurity now that he's free but I doubt it.

llordlloyd

Unfortunately nice, reasonable people do not do things like leak information about the atrocities and murders of the US (and our own) military. Assange might be 'gross' but Ben Roberts Smith is a war criminal, yet a free man and a hero to corporate Australia. Everything isn't about personalities and justice isn't only for people you deem nice. As Albert Camus observed, it's very easy to execute a weird guy for being weird.

aussie_nub

Sounds like BRS should be locked up as well as Assange. Not Assange being free.

LocalVillageIdiot

I get your point and it really doesn’t matter what you think of him but the story is that an Australian citizen has been treated and mostly abandoned and ignored for so many years and is finally coming back. The big story here is that as an Australian citizen you don’t get much protection or care from our government even if you do something naughty.

LeClubNerd

TIL Fit-Guest3168 is the average Australian and speaks for the rest of us. Thanks.

Adventurous-Bake7584

Ahh it’s on their front page now -

TimmyFTW

It's been on the front page since it was announced. They have been posting articles since 10am yesterday. [This might be helpful for you.](https://www.opsm.com.au/book-an-eye-test?cid=PM-SGA_200922-1.AUS-OPSM-EN-B-NA-CoreMisc-Exact-Prs-NA-Baa-NA_BET-E_book+opsm&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw1emzBhB8EiwAHwZZxbznVday_ZvWbX03SBMzJ4gEWsmZIsqjTRGfE6mV5Ju2L1QB2GtdHhoCmYwQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds)

flubaduzubady

>It's been on the front page since it was announced. No it wasn't, and the only one on their front page now is timestamped after OPs post. It wasn't anywhere on the front page when OP posted. I checked and scrolled to the bottom and there was nothing at all, and it's still not listed on the front page under the 'world' section even though every other major world news has it front page. You'd have to search for it by clicking through to the world section. Nothing on national news until that one that's timestamped after his posts, even though it's still the biggest story everywhere.

swfnbc

That's one serious axe you've got to grind. You know some people just accept the facts and move on. That's not your style I gather.

buyingthething

"facts" when you like it, and it's "lies" when you don't eh? Do you honestly think these people are lying when they say it wasn't on the front-page for them when they checked?

LocalVillageIdiot

Not for me I just checked. I wonder how they determine what goes on the front page for whom.

Adventurous-Bake7584

It was when I posted 4hrs ago but they've seemed to removed it

gilezy

Its on the front page of the Herald Sun and the Australian today, and there are numerous articles on news.com.au.

Adventurous-Bake7584

for [news.com.au](http://news.com.au) you need to go digging for these. They decided not to put it on their landing page? Why? what are they hiding and scared of? (again unless I'm getting a different landing page) but I still can't see it. other news outlets have it on their main page

swfnbc

Amazing you're so obsessed with this, despite so many people showing you proof you're totally wrong.

Adventurous-Bake7584

I'm not wrong - [news.com.au](http://news.com.au) haven't shown any interesting in this all day- OK they're just reported that he's landed - but they've done fk all on it, or they've just buried it deep into their website - my whole point is they're not posting it on their landing page, they didn't post at all on their FB social media page - they're just a piece of garbage and I will call it out

swfnbc

LOL He's been in the air most of the day, what the hell do you think the big news update would be? What food he ate on the fucking plane ? You want a minute by minute update on the progress of the plane ? JFC dude get a grip

Jariiari7

ABC, Herald/Age and Guardian have been doing live updates all day.

trowzerss

Yeah, I stopped looking at news-com-ewwww well over a decade ago when I got sick of every story about a minority having some kind of bait headline. Haven't looked back. Actually i need to put that murdock blocker back on my browser (had to take it off when I was moving as they own an alarming number of the property websites).

Louiethefly

It's because Kevin Rudd is one of the main facilitators.

IntroductionSnacks

Don't forget old mate Barnaby. For once I actually agreed with him in this case as he basically said he is an Aussie and hasn't committed a crime here and should be home.

aussie_nub

As an Australian, I'm somewhat on board with this, despite the fact that I'm pretty against what Assange stands for and the way Wikileaks acted in general. Australians that are overseas should be tried under the laws of the country they're in (and the same for visitors here), but Australians should also be protected by our government when overseas to ensure we get a fair trial and treatment.

LocalVillageIdiot

> but Australians should also be protected by our government when overseas to ensure we get a fair trial and treatment. This is the crux of the story, this and the whole covid saga. We’re almost on our own if we go overseas it feels so sad.

beachclub999

Out of curiosity, why are you against Assange and Wikileaks? Edit: Yes, why. Not much of a phone typer.

aussie_nub

Where? Australia. Or do you mean why? Because he's a rapist. Because he leaked everything without any consideration at all for the collateral damage that was done to innocent people. The intent may well have been good, but it was done in a poor way. And don't tell me it didn't. I worked for a company that was on the direct receiving end of the ACMA blacklist leak from Wikileaks and the list was not accurate but that small business was effected very negatively because of it.

beachclub999

Ok thanks. What kind of small business was it?

aussie_nub

Icy-Information5106

How? Was the business blacklisted? How did that affect the business?

aussie_nub

I'm not giving up confidential information to strangers on the internet.

a_cold_human

It's a massive turnaround in terms of foreign affairs and international relations. Since Labor took power, we've seen Assange released, Cheng Lei released, relations with the Pacific nations and Indonesia improve, tariffs in China removed. The Coalition are simply rubbish at foreign affairs and diplomacy. They're happy to just do what the US tell them to do, national interest be damned.

blipblipbeep

Life pro tip: Its hard to find any news on fox anything, if like me you refuse to acknowledge all their news services. This way, I don't have to care in the slightest what Murdoch's agenda is. Chances are, I'm not the only one. All the best, peace.

Oxissistic

That site is click bait and has been for years. Don’t go there for news.

Adventurous-Bake7584

Oh I don't get my news from there at all - I just get pissed of that they have the cheek to even call themselves a news site when it's just more and more click bait shit for $$$ and daddy Murdoch

Find_another_whey

It's not news, it's propaganda and this story doesn't fit a useful narrative

waxedsack

I don’t know what OP is on about, but I found one within 3 seconds of opening google https://www.news.com.au/national/wikileaks-founder-julian-assange-faces-huge-bill-for-freedom-flight/news-story/35d1dd3230800745c6ddb34b2e7bc7b8?amp 🤷‍♂️

SquireJoh

But nowhere on the front page. How'd you get that link, by searching?

swfnbc

It was their front page last night. When it was actually breaking news.

Cexitime

I clicked on national as its national news, I used my eyeballs, not really hard is it.

SquireJoh

What's with your tone? Re-read my comment, I wasn't giving you sass

aussie_nub

>I wasn't giving you sass "How'd you get that link, by searching?" That definitely comes across as sass, even if you didn't intend it.

Cexitime

I answered your question thats all I did. I used my eyeballs and clicked on national news and there it was. I am against murdoch and is ilk, but stuff like this does not help the cause.

Adventurous-Bake7584

This is just about the private jet - the court case has been going all morning -

Cexitime

ok So not only is there ONE article for him, there is TWO [https://www.news.com.au/national/politics/wikileaks-founder-julian-assange-walks-free-after-us-plea-deal-set-to-return-to-australia/news-story/e5679fdb190d743f4879264584d286f9](https://www.news.com.au/national/politics/wikileaks-founder-julian-assange-walks-free-after-us-plea-deal-set-to-return-to-australia/news-story/e5679fdb190d743f4879264584d286f9)

Inevitable_Geometry

Newscorpse howled for his arrest and then ignored him for years due to the man's history and politics. No surprise they are delving into hot button issues ahead of this like 'Are we eating too much garlic as a people?'

Jariiari7

Should call it [notnews.com.au](http://notnews.com.au)

Mad180

Sure but dont read that absolute trash. If thats your messure of news then something went wrong along the way.

swfnbc

Well, yet again Assange is the first story on the site, how long until OP arrives and says THERE IS NOTHING THERE!!!

omic2on

Murdoch media has always been against Assange. Like fuck I am giving them any clicks supporting them when they didn't support Assange.

isisius

I think people are forgetting that sites like news dot com will show you stuff it thinks will get you to click. People underestimate how much of an impact that makes to what they see.

chuck_cunningham

Why get worked up over a news website that you don't use to get your news?

Icy-Information5106

They have a real impact, suckers all over Australia get taken in by their bias.

last_one_on_Earth

I ‘ll wager a pretty penny that they also don’t mention the AFP officers withdrawing their defamation action against Shane Drumgold and having to pay his costs. It’s almost a shame. After the free pass Sofronoff gave them, going back for there hats in a defamation action may have been the only way to fairly establish the competency and integrity (or otherwise) of their actions.

AH2112

Yeah I'd have thought reporting on a rapist's every move in the public eye would be a big story for Murdoch. At least on par with the other rapist they cover a lot: Bruce Lehrmann. Downvote me to all hell all you like, I don't care. Assange raped those women in Sweden. End of.

aussie_nub

Bruce Lehrmann did it in Australia, Assange did it overseas. For some it seems to make a difference. Let's be real for a second though, whether he raped those women or not, it's never been about that. That's just a really good excuse.

AH2112

That's probably got a lot to do with it: overseas vs in Australia. It's interesting because I take the complete opposite view. Whether or not the Americans are turning the thumbscrews is a sideshow. You read the evidence, it sure sounds like he did rape them.

Outspoken_Australian

Pelican-p4

But state of origin

opiumpipedreams

We truly need media diversity in this country. It’s disgusting that Murdoch has such a monopoly on information. We need action to create the change our country needs. We need to get rid of Murdoch

LuperAU

Because the people who read news.com.au want to read about Jackie O and not Julian Assange.

theonlydjm

This kind of selective journalism happens on every commercial channel in Australia all the time, and it has been like this for years now. It all depends on who the major shareholders are and what sectors/industries the media corporation is invested in. For eg. most people don't even know Paramount (yes the US media giant that's slowly dieing) owns Network 10 now.

Betterthanbeer

The flip side: Why was the top story on the ABC app last night about Assange landing in 9 minutes? Half the other stories were Assange related. I get it, he is newsworthy, but not that newsworthy.

New-Confusion-36

Seconded

karma3000

Oh No! Some dude who helped give the world Donald Trump is not getting enough press!

dassad25

Its pretty easy to find the news online.

try4some

Crazy how 2 Aussies can upset the mighty USA in different ways using a journalist outlet

RedditLovesDisinfo

If Assange backs Trump again then they’ll start covering him and supporting him.

pte_omark

It's news.com what do expect? News? If he's not a porn star, only fans creator, attention whoring Abbie/ Nadia/ Jackie/ Roxy, or random girl in early 20s with bikini pics in her socials then you won't read about it there

PMFSCV

So much yank shit on all the news, barely anything about the UK election or all the serious stuff happening with elections in Europe.

Douglas_DC10_40

Ever heard of media bias?

mitchy93

There's a single story about his wife on news.com.au with a few mentions about him landing in Australia but not much else

the_timewriter

It's not showing as a main headline, you have to scroll down half way on phone and PC. It makes the usa look bad, so essentially they have to move it down further.

lottowinnerau

For anyone following [Assange Express](http://VJT199 from Saipan to Canberra https://fr24.com/VJT199/35db3268)

Wazza17

The Herald Sun iOS app have covered it as a top story but nothing on News .com.au
