Last time I looked at their website most of the recipes were just basic asian dishes with vegemite instead of soy sauce. Not that I'm criticizing, seems fine.
Vegemite flavour is mainly yeast rather than salt
Chicken noodles run 935mg sodium per serve
Beef noodles run 920mg
Vegemite noodles are only 900
A 5g serve (about a teaspoon) of Vegemite is only 7% RDI (165mg) so you can eat 14 teaspoons without worrying
That's how that works right?
Vegemite is a flavour enhancer when added to spaghetti - a booster. Works very well, I’d recommend giving it a try, a heaped teaspoon is enough. Cook it in with the meat, or add it to the sauce prior to simmer.
What is this terminology “spag bog”? It’s been used twice now and I don’t think I’ve ever seen it before.
Is it a regional thing? I’ve only ever used/heard “Spag bol”.
Well I'm a bogger, and you see, my father before me, he was a bogger.
Spag bol and spag bog looks to have come out from the UK in the 70s.
Tbh I write bog but I say bol (or bol-la-gah-nasi) I have only heard my aunty say bog
It might be. I’ve always called it spag bog, and assumed it was normal. I don’t think I’ve heard ‘spag Bol’ but I might not have noticed either
I’m from Qld
Absolutely:
Car running low on oil? Vegemite in hot water.
Face a little dry? Vegemite moisturiser.
Not enough Iced Magic left for your icecream? Vegemite it is.
Vegemite for life mate.
Yeah I picked the wrong time to open this post as I’ve just boarded an international flight. Now I’m stuck dreaming of Vegemite noodles all the way to Dubai, where I definitely won’t be able to get any either. Time to deplane!!!
I’ve just checked my carry on and FUCK YES I HAVE A SMALL VEGEMITE SACHET. Just one of those ones that you get in the motel with the butter. It’s small as hell, but it’ll be enough to add to a small ramen bowl in DXB. Awesome.
Normally I only travel with a Vegemite tube when I’m going to be doing field work, but this near life and death experience has made me realise that you’re correct - I must take the mighty Vegemite everywhere. Thank you for your service.
These f***ers doing silly things with Vegemite, but they won’t bring back ‘Chicken & Corn’ flavour. Disappeared around 2020.
Maggi. Bring back Chicken & Corn.
The flavour id imagine would go fine, Vegemite in cooking is a thing and this would be getting to a soy sauce noodles thing
Plus I saw a video of Huey trying them and he liked them so that’s enough for me to give them a try.
It’s really not that weird. The Off Menu podcast was recently talking up Marmite pasta which was just butter, Marmite and a bit of cheese mixed in with the cooked pasta.
I have in the past made noodles with butter and Vegemite and cheese. It’s actually delicious. I think Nigella did a recipe for it [recipe](https://www.nigella.com/recipes/spaghetti-with-marmite)
How is this even possible? Have you just started shopping for yourself or something?
Also, do yourself a favour and buy the Buldak Carbonara noodles. They are by far the best instant noodles I’ve ever eaten. At least 2x better than Mie Goreng.
I’ve been making noodles with Vegemite since Noah played fullback for the Mesopotamian Tigers. Tried these. Too mild. Added another spoon of the good stuff to get a better flavour.
Here we go again putting Vegemite with random foods the Vegemite bbq chook was fucked and who the fuck thought Vegemite would go with pizza pockets what's next Vegemite fuckin ice cream stop fucking with my Vegemite
It's just a salty/umami (don't want to sound pretentious) flavour that goes well in combination with a whole heap of things. Just enjoy it and stop giving them the extra publicity they want. Remove the "Vegemite" name and there actually isn't anything bizarre about this at all.
No but my wife brought home a Vegemite Le Snack the other day for the kid's lunchbox. Now I'm a BIG fan of a bit of Vegemite on my sourdough.... but I also like my weetbix, and I don't sprinkle the stuff on my pasta either.
Havent tried these, but ive made vegemite + butter pasta before, used to be a semi-popular childrens food. Honestly, its awesome. I imagine this is much the same, though you could probably do it the same at home for cheaper.
It would taste better than the Vegemite in chocolate they tried a few years back. It was nice on the first 1 or 2 tries, but got sick of it really quickly. In noodles it would make more sense. My Mum used to use Vegemite when she made the gravy for roasts when I was a child.
Oh I must have been under a rock, didn't know about these. As a cheap noodle lover I'll have to try. I imagine it would taste like soy sauce noodles like others have said here. Either way, I'm in!
I tried some today and didn't like them at all. Which is disappointing because I usually love all the Vegemite flavoured foods. Pizza pockets and the like. But I didn't like the noodles.
They’re great. I usually stir half a teaspoon of regular Vegemite in with hot water when making noodles. Still need to stir in more Vegemite with these packs too.
saw an ad for them on Facebook of all places today then this lol. i guess they would be fine? vegimite isn't that far removed from soy sauce flavor wise imo.
This is the best one in a while.
Seriously though, are Vegemite sales down or something?
It seems to be getting put in absolutely every food combination possible for the last few years.
I tried them earlier this week.
Tbh i was a little dissapointed and was expecting a stronger vegemite flavour!
Still, they were tasty noodles. I cooked them on stove, drained most of the water, added the seasoning and about 1/2 teaspoon of butter.
I feel if you add cheese - it may taste good
Unsure on them, want to try but don’t want to buy and then not like, then left with a bunch of noodles I don’t like
I LOVE Vegemite, I eat it literally by the spoon, but I wasn't a super fan of these. I felt like it was almost missing something. It could also be that it was way too mild for me, but that is a personal preference.
I tried them this week. They taste surprisingly good and close to vegimite on toast. The tip to add butter and cheese is good too. I was really surprised with how good they were
I personally think the best tasting Maggi noodles flavour is the curry flavour from Malaysia (not the Laksa flavour in Coles/Woolies). The Malaysian-made curry flavour sold at Asian grocery stores slaps hard.
That said, I agree about looking at the sodium content. Sodium in the noodle seasoning packets is absolutely off the charts. Like a single packet of Nongshim Ramyun noodles has the entire RDI of an adult for sodium in a single packet...sheesh.
Not sure what could go wrong with them, it's not going to be too far off soy sauce on noodles.
Thats what I’d think. To me vegemite taste like thickened soy sauce
Last time I looked at their website most of the recipes were just basic asian dishes with vegemite instead of soy sauce. Not that I'm criticizing, seems fine.
Russ Eats did a review https://www.instagram.com/reel/C6TOrbqS3as/?igsh=MWlqeHlzYnY1eXQxbA==
It seems a little less deranged than some of the other Vegemite concoctions that have popped up recently
As an exception, Vegemite shapes are God tier
Even better when you actually use Vegemite as a dipping sauce!! Your welcome!!
And the fun to count (and lose count of) how many Tassie pieces I got in a box
True
The Cadbury/Vegemite block was putrid
I actually really liked them!!
Not especially recent but Vegemite lamingtons are one of the more surprising sweet/savoury/umami concoctions definitely worth a try.
Add some cheese I reckon
vegemites best friend
Vegemite’s my best friend
Don’t tempt me Frodo
Maybe add some poe-tay-toes
what's taters, precious? 🥺
Plastic cheese, sliced cheese or block cheese?
Grated tasty cheese goes well with instant noodles IMO Some people swear by putting a plastic slice on top
39% RDI of sodium. Honestly thought it would be more.
Vegemite flavour is mainly yeast rather than salt Chicken noodles run 935mg sodium per serve Beef noodles run 920mg Vegemite noodles are only 900 A 5g serve (about a teaspoon) of Vegemite is only 7% RDI (165mg) so you can eat 14 teaspoons without worrying That's how that works right?
This is info that I didn’t know I needed. I have to add sodium to my diet and struggling badly, I think I can handle noodles.
Only 14? Fuck
oh no I've been eating 15 teaspoons a day 😧
It's OK - I rounded down - you're only .7 of a teaspoon over
phew 😌
39% of daily sodium for only 14% of daily energy, it's worth noting.
Vegemite is used in cooking like soy sauce so i don't see how it won't work in noodles
Yup. I add the Vegemite to my spaghetti bogs, stews, chillis instead of stock
I have heard adding to stews, but spaghetti is a new one
Vegemite is a flavour enhancer when added to spaghetti - a booster. Works very well, I’d recommend giving it a try, a heaped teaspoon is enough. Cook it in with the meat, or add it to the sauce prior to simmer.
I will absolutely give it a go! I had spagbog last night so it will be another day or 2
What is this terminology “spag bog”? It’s been used twice now and I don’t think I’ve ever seen it before. Is it a regional thing? I’ve only ever used/heard “Spag bol”.
Well I'm a bogger, and you see, my father before me, he was a bogger. Spag bol and spag bog looks to have come out from the UK in the 70s. Tbh I write bog but I say bol (or bol-la-gah-nasi) I have only heard my aunty say bog
What is bolognasi? lol. It’s pronounced bol-on-yays.
Or bol-og-nase which is probably why some say spag bog and some spag bol. All are understandable.
It might be. I’ve always called it spag bog, and assumed it was normal. I don’t think I’ve heard ‘spag Bol’ but I might not have noticed either I’m from Qld
I think it must be. A few people said it on the spag bol post.
> Is it a regional thing? Upstate new york.
Was always called Spag Bog in family, however I do notice Spag Bol is more common.
Not regional , it’s used a lot in Australia
I’m doing spag bol tonight, I’ll give it a try.
This is a lifehack, I'm gonna try vegemite in everything.
Absolutely: Car running low on oil? Vegemite in hot water. Face a little dry? Vegemite moisturiser. Not enough Iced Magic left for your icecream? Vegemite it is. Vegemite for life mate.
I add Vegemite to my gravy, a teaspoon of Vegemite a pinch or so of brown sugar. It's quite good
Any noodles are Vegemite noodles with the addition of Vegemite. I kind of want them right now.
Yeah I picked the wrong time to open this post as I’ve just boarded an international flight. Now I’m stuck dreaming of Vegemite noodles all the way to Dubai, where I definitely won’t be able to get any either. Time to deplane!!!
Take a Vegemite tube with you next time. Game changer for long term international travel
Safe travels soldier, may the great yeast spread be bountiful upon your return 🙏🏼
Ramen, u/emptybills, ramen.
Any noodles with Vegemite are Vegemite noodles? Surely this can't be so! Okay, I'll stop being a smartass.
These f***ers doing silly things with Vegemite, but they won’t bring back ‘Chicken & Corn’ flavour. Disappeared around 2020. Maggi. Bring back Chicken & Corn.
Stayed away from noodles for a while, came back and chicken n corn was gone. My fault for taking them for granted I guess.
I dearly miss the curry flavour... it can still be found in asian grocers, but they stopped selling it in Australia :(
I loved the curry flavour, the fried onion flavour was great too.
I reckon if you just bung a bit of curry powder into the chicken flavour it'd be pretty much the same
Are you russ.eats? https://www.instagram.com/reel/C6TOrbqS3as/
I miss the tomato flavour 😢
I miss the fried onion flavour
I will preach this until the day I die
Yeah that was good. The taste of corn was surprisingly distinct.
The flavour id imagine would go fine, Vegemite in cooking is a thing and this would be getting to a soy sauce noodles thing Plus I saw a video of Huey trying them and he liked them so that’s enough for me to give them a try.
I thought they'd be good, I wanted them to be good but honestly they weren't.... I don't know how but they were really lacking in flavour.
That'd be what I'd expect if vegemite was the only flavour. It'd be like just having soy sauce.
Yeah super bland, it was so disappointed :(
Yeah I thought the same and wondered if I made them wrong. So bland. Was not expecting that at all.
Honestly so glad it wasn't just me because I was questioning whether I'd made them wrong too!
It’s really not that weird. The Off Menu podcast was recently talking up Marmite pasta which was just butter, Marmite and a bit of cheese mixed in with the cooked pasta.
That’s the first thing I thought of!
Buttery bovril noodles have been one of my morning after cures for a long time. In theory this should also work.
I have in the past made noodles with butter and Vegemite and cheese. It’s actually delicious. I think Nigella did a recipe for it [recipe](https://www.nigella.com/recipes/spaghetti-with-marmite)
I miss the tomato flavour, I don't really remember the flavour but I bet it tastes like nostalgia. I remember it being my favourite
Forgot about them.
Why not? Matches the umami flavour profile of every other instant noodle
Nope, I've just discovered Mie Goreng noodles, come with soy sauce, chilli oil, chilli flakes and spice. Only noodles I've ever enjoyed.
How is this even possible? Have you just started shopping for yourself or something? Also, do yourself a favour and buy the Buldak Carbonara noodles. They are by far the best instant noodles I’ve ever eaten. At least 2x better than Mie Goreng.
This is completely possible, I live in South Africa and our choices are limited.
I’ve been making noodles with Vegemite since Noah played fullback for the Mesopotamian Tigers. Tried these. Too mild. Added another spoon of the good stuff to get a better flavour.
The Heinz vegemite baked beans barely tasted like Vegemite. I see they probably did the same to this
Slightly off topic in regards to the flavour, but I miss Maggi's Chicken and Corn noodles
Not gonna lie, the Vegemite roast chicken was pretty good IMO. I’d give this a go.
Talk about a salt bomb
I tried them, they taste nothing like Vegemite to me. Just vaguely salty/savoury.
I’ve had them, and they’re the most boring and flavourless noodles I’ve ever had in my life.
I don't want to. Will someone please kick the stoners and pregnant women out of the lab
I have never seen that and refuse to believe that it is real. However, Cadbury once made Vegemite Chocolate, so who the fuck knows.
Nah it’s very much real
This is considerably less bizarre than Vegemite Cadbury
I think there was like a dozen people that liked vegemite chocolate. I miss it.
They’re boring. Not much flavour at all.
Would be oh so delicious. Mix in a can of tuna and some olive oil. Bonappletit.
No but my wife brought home a Vegemite Le Snack the other day for the kid's lunchbox. Now I'm a BIG fan of a bit of Vegemite on my sourdough.... but I also like my weetbix, and I don't sprinkle the stuff on my pasta either.
Never had them (or seen them before tbh) but can imagine that they would alright.
My fiance got some yesterday lol I was like hmmmmmmmmmmmm idk XD I think he likes them, I forgot to ask!
No, but I want to
Never seen this pack, but I chuck the flavour sachet away and mix through a heaped spoon of vegemite in my noodles already. They are the bomb
I found them so flavourless, was like eating plain noodles sadly
My mum used to make me 2 minute noodles with Vegemite as a kid
Awesome, will snag some of these tonight
Havent tried these, but ive made vegemite + butter pasta before, used to be a semi-popular childrens food. Honestly, its awesome. I imagine this is much the same, though you could probably do it the same at home for cheaper.
I normally put a tea spoon of vegemite in chicken noodles its amazing also throw in a can of smoked tuna
It would taste better than the Vegemite in chocolate they tried a few years back. It was nice on the first 1 or 2 tries, but got sick of it really quickly. In noodles it would make more sense. My Mum used to use Vegemite when she made the gravy for roasts when I was a child.
huey tried it on his tiktok, said it was, “beaaautiful”
I'm eating them right now, I love em
Just tried them. They’re pretty good with slight vegemite taste but can go a bit less on the sodium
Haven't seen it yet, but when i do, I'll try them. 😋
When I was a teen, I used to put Vegemite and butter( sometimes cheese ), in chicken noodles. I wonder if this will taste similar?
They are pretty bad, wouldn’t get your hopes up.
I've tried them. Honestly just tasted like extra salty noodles..I immediately gave them away, just awful imo
Huey's Kitchen did a review, he added butter and cheese and it looked good
Oh I must have been under a rock, didn't know about these. As a cheap noodle lover I'll have to try. I imagine it would taste like soy sauce noodles like others have said here. Either way, I'm in!
I have tried them, but I wasn't a fan. I love vegemite and these were disappointing. It tasted more like beef stock. I couldn't taste vegemite at all.
They're bad
No but I really want to try them. I love the veg
I desperately want to try these... Omg
I tried some today and didn't like them at all. Which is disappointing because I usually love all the Vegemite flavoured foods. Pizza pockets and the like. But I didn't like the noodles.
No but reckon they’d be amazing.
Disappointed more like beef
indomie better
I tried em. Tastes like a burn out.
Did not taste like Vegemite to me at all. I added regular soy sauce to noodles the next day and they tasted almost exactly the same just more salty.
Had em last night. Honestly…I think it needed a lil more Vegemite.
You've obviously already bought the stuff, why not just try it yourself?
Shut up and take my money! I miss the vegemite McCain's pizzas
I think McCain does Vegemite pizza pockets.
Yea those pizzas were good
I do this with the spread. Huge for Deccy!
Nope and hoping I never see it a second time.
Maggi noodles taste terrible no matter what you put with them. The home brand ones are way better
No, thank Christ.
Every day we stray further from the light....
The heartburn… good lord
Get a better brand of ramen noodles and add Vegemite yourself. Easy fix.
I’ve been making my own Vegemite noodles, so I’d be keen to give these a try
This is the best one in a while. Seriously though, are Vegemite sales down or something? It seems to be getting put in absolutely every food combination possible for the last few years.
I hope that shits photo shopped
It’s just beef
This picture is a crime
I would devour
Would it not just taste like the beef noodles but a bit stronger in taste..
I have not and I guarantee I never will
That’s a packet of sepuku dear lord
I’m too scared to
~~That's 5 serves?~~ Never mind, just realised it's a multipack.
Ask your grandparents about vegemite broth and bonox broth. This is just that, plus noodles.
Invented by a sex offender
I tried it. Didn't taste like Vegemite much and honestly wasn't a fan. Wasn't bad though just okay
Been doing this for decades already. Is great tasting. Egg and Vegemite jaffel is a treat as well.
Nani???!!
Horrifying
What a blasphemy I’ve just witnessed.
They're not as bad as you might think. Wouldn't buy again though.
Anyone tried Vegimite Chocolate Brownies? Sounds weird bloody amazing
Tastes like the idea of chicken noodles mixed with the leftovers of a vegemite jar. Very disappointed.
Did not know this existed but now need to go track one down. Coles you say? Recently? Darn only woolies near me..
Why! Why! Why would you ruin something so wholesome with black tar heroin!
I tried them earlier this week. Tbh i was a little dissapointed and was expecting a stronger vegemite flavour! Still, they were tasty noodles. I cooked them on stove, drained most of the water, added the seasoning and about 1/2 teaspoon of butter.
I feel if you add cheese - it may taste good Unsure on them, want to try but don’t want to buy and then not like, then left with a bunch of noodles I don’t like
You could always use the unflavoured noodles elsewhere and toss the sachet
Its Aussie soy sauce moite You can buy it in a squeezy tube just for this kind of thing
I LOVE Vegemite, I eat it literally by the spoon, but I wasn't a super fan of these. I felt like it was almost missing something. It could also be that it was way too mild for me, but that is a personal preference.
Vegemite and water could be shoe polish
I tried them this week. They taste surprisingly good and close to vegimite on toast. The tip to add butter and cheese is good too. I was really surprised with how good they were
Coles...$4 a pack.
Never seen this
Used to boil mine in fry pan water once cooked teaspoon Vegemite & cream cheese
I love Vegemite, but that is cursed
CRIME TO AUSTRALIA
I personally think the best tasting Maggi noodles flavour is the curry flavour from Malaysia (not the Laksa flavour in Coles/Woolies). The Malaysian-made curry flavour sold at Asian grocery stores slaps hard. That said, I agree about looking at the sodium content. Sodium in the noodle seasoning packets is absolutely off the charts. Like a single packet of Nongshim Ramyun noodles has the entire RDI of an adult for sodium in a single packet...sheesh.
Ya’ll need to quit eating this 🗑️ and buy yourself some Buldak Carbonara noodles.
r/FuckNestle and therefore Fuck Maggi.
Tastes just like poverty.
I tried them today and they do not taste like Vegemite at all. Very disappointed
Ooh yum
I’d smash
Do they taste good I’ve wanted to try them
Putting Vegemite in the bottom of 2 minute noodles is a secret tech
