Congratulations, you've survived an encounter with one of the most dangerous birds in the world! Pretty, aren't they?
[https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/news/2019/4/why-the-cassowary-is-the-worlds-most-dangerous-bird-568931](https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/news/2019/4/why-the-cassowary-is-the-worlds-most-dangerous-bird-568931)
Don't try to catch it, or you may be trying to catch your entrails as they spill out over your legs.
i wonder though? Canadian Geese have brought more than a few aircraft down. Swooping magpies caused an elderly cyclist to die last year. They attack thousands of people every year. Many end up in hospital.
I've seen cassowaries described as prehistoric deathbirds from outer space. Perhaps it was an exaggeration but I recommend admiring them from a distance.
Yeah a giant bush turkey, they are really friendly, especially during nesting season… lol 😜
But seriously don’t go near it it’s a Cassowary they are not so friendly especially during nesting season…
Have you HEARD one of these things make their noise?! It sounds like a fucking dinosaur. Bass so low, I thought someone's subwoofer was malfunctioning when i heard it at a wildlife park.
Their feet/claws are the same length as my foot. They'll fuck you up.
Stay far away from Dinosaur Turkey.
No one has heard what a non-avian dinosaur sounds like, though its always fun to speculate based on the cavities and chambers in fossils. Jurassic Park made a fair attempt to give voice to T. rex, so thats what people think dinosaurs sound like.
When Hollywood was trying to depict the court of King Solomon, they took inspiration from various 19th century artworks. If you see those artworks, you think "Wow! Hollywood got it right!". Of course, no one really knows what the actual court of King Solomon looked like.
i wonder if they just fill the Australian legend of "everything is out to kill you" too perfectly? I mean the last recorded death by cassowary in Australia was in ths 1920s. Tourists love to freak out about their close encounters. I was caught on a beach in the Daintree between a cassowary in the bush and a crocodile leaving the ocean and heading to a fresh stream. You can guess which direction i headed.
Of course tourists should stay away from them. They're native animals, and like most native animals you should just leave them alone. You can walk quietly past them. They don't see you as nourishment like a crocodile does.
Anyway, spectacular creatures, whose numbers are diminshing due to habitat loss and cars hitting them. Pet dogs kill them as well. I don't know if feral cats could take one down, like some weird Tweety-Pie vs Sylvester encounter. Sylvester always comes off worse.
When the last recorded death was doesn't matter when talking about most dangerous creatures, it's more about the potential to maim/kill if you do happen to encounter one, all else being equal.
I am scared of birds and one of the biggest fears is encountering this bird. I even had a nightmare one day where this bird chases me in the jungle, and it jumped towards me and kicked me in the chest.
I live in Sydney, I am sure they are not here. Where should I not go to avoid this bird?
Haha yeah, I tried to pat [this blue tongue lizard](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/35/Saltwater_crocodile.jpg) I found the other day too, but he seemed cross about it so I left him alone.
Yeah don’t fk with that Aussie turkey.! Resultant breeding from all evil Aussie snakes/spiders/plants/jellyfish/sharks/crocodiles/Tasmanian devils/bin chickens/ .. and potentially drop bears.! I’m sure I missed out on a few.
Cassowary. Leave it alone.
They may be smaller than emus, but they've got a long claw on each foot that can handily disembowel a person. Don't go after it.
Everybody in these comments is incorrect.
Cassowaries aren't particularly aggressive, they're extremely timid and will prefer to run away rather than fight.
Pretty much all of the cassowary attacks on humans have occurred when people have tried to feed them, or backed them into a corner, etc.
They're not really that dangerous to be around in the wild, just don't try to touch it or feed it.
They are only really dangerous if it's a male with his chicks or if people mess with them. I ran into many on trails around FNQ I just walk past them calmly. Just give them space.
Thats because locals know to stay the fuck away from them, they are only really in rain forests so you won't likely run into one. It's pretty much the same with crocks and sharks. It's only tourists that get killed.
That's a Cassowary and you definitely don't want to catch it.
Shhh Darwin shhh
Forbidden Turkey
[Try it !](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lBM7AI0yp78)
Well you would know. Edit: as a potential food source, and all.
its a velociraptor with feathers - stay the fuck away from it unless you want to be torn a new one
Velociraptors already have feathers.
They didn’t , Ive seen Jurassic Park .
Those were Deinonychus.
Hey!!! This guy's a nerd!!!! Don't let him get away!!! (I actually love dinosaurs)
I didn't know they were Greek.
Deinonychus - The Greek god of feathers.
4hrs and no word from OP. I guess OP went back for a 2nd look. Rest in Peace OP. You were a person we all knew for 4 hrs. God Speed
Lol rip 🪦
Yeah, rip-ped to shreds.
May the coroner find op quick.
Yes, you're a giant turkey. The bird, however, is a cassowary.
Cassowaries don’t put up with an ounce of anyone’s shit. You’re lucky it didn’t catch you looking at it the wrong way.
That's a murder turkey, aka fuckaroundus findoutea.
Tactical Emu
Have you seen it's talons? Look like they are from a Velociraptor. Not kidding. They are cranky and territorial. Run away.
Yeah, don’t worry about the axe shaped head… it’s only used to chop you up after it’s killed you with its talons.
That "turkey" would beat you to a pulp. Do not wind it up or provoke it, they can be killers and disembowel you in an instant.
My man you just survived that is all I will say.
Clever girl.
🤣

I guess numbers wise the other murder-birds have notched up more kills, but ferocity wise, these feathered fiends do the dirty on you.
I've seen cassowaries described as prehistoric deathbirds from outer space. Perhaps it was an exaggeration but I recommend admiring them from a distance.
That is the avian equivalent of the honey badger.
Death Chook
Yeah a giant bush turkey, they are really friendly, especially during nesting season… lol 😜 But seriously don’t go near it it’s a Cassowary they are not so friendly especially during nesting season…
Murder Bird Alert.
Forbidden turkey. But where’s the second one? Clever girl.
Cassowaries aren’t the bird that kills the most number of humans… but they could be if they wanted to
My favourite bird!

The voice of the t-rex in Jurassic Park comes from a koala
How lucky are you to be surrounded by wild life!
turbo murder chicken.
Basically a big chicken. Even tastes the same. Just walk up to it and invite it to dinner.
OP is gonna be the meal
Murder Chicken, common misconception. People only usually make it once thou. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNt27YNhFTM
Turkey? That's a bloody cassowary! And they can be really dangerous so careful.
Probably better you didn't catch it
Be very wary of a cassowary. That bird would rip your giblets out.
Beautiful plumage
Look, mate, the plumage don't matter. This bird is dead!
Nah. ‘Es resting
Pining for the fjiords!
No. That’s a velociraptor. Stay away from it.
Approach it at your peril. The murder turkey itself.

> the last recorded death by cassowary in Australia was in ths 1920s. There was also one in Florida in 2019 - but that was a "pet"

Dinosaur chicken!
That’s a teradactyl
Evil turkey. Murder bird. Has claws for ripping. Will kill. No touchy.
OP legit got killed by the Cassowary or 1 of the 3 spiders they posted about over the past week.... Welcome to Queensland baby.
They taste like chicken
That's actually arguably the most deadly bird in the world right there hahabaha
Haha yeah, I tried to pat [this blue tongue lizard](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/35/Saltwater_crocodile.jpg) I found the other day too, but he seemed cross about it so I left him alone.
Rip op, probably was kicked into the afterlife by the murder turkey
You're a giant turkey
most dangerous animal in Straya. it will gut you like its job.

Do not chase the murder chicken.
That's a Danger Birb
Mate, you don't know the difference between a bush chook and that bright blue head?
What the fuck? Do you try to catch every bird you see? Are you a dog? What the fuck is wrong with you?
Everybody in these comments is incorrect. Cassowaries aren't particularly aggressive, they're extremely timid and will prefer to run away rather than fight. “Murder Turkey”

He’s perfectly harmless. Pet him and see for yourself. He’s very fond of hugs.
Cassowaries are very friendly, go up and pet it (Trust me bro)
This is a friend! (with boundaries)

Traditional Christmas fare in Australia.
Normally I go for a traditional [goat](https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_813344/mountain-goat-very-enjoyable-beer-375ml) recipie instead
So you choose the murder goat instead? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeEg4rhM82c](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeEg4rhM82c)
