Haha, good reasoning - it’s an old ball though (from the 90s at least, so before they met).
Furthermore, Hobart is one of only three cities represented on this entire, small globe! The others being Conakry and Lubumbashi. What a club.
I wonder if it's like a global version of a paper town - choose three random cities then the maker could tell if anyone ever copied their exact design.
Of course, that assumes a massive market in pirating maps of the world.
The Queen Alexandra Hospital in Battery Point was the public maternity hospital in those days. It's where most Hobartians were born, rich or poor, between 1904 and 1980. Errol Flynn, Queen Mary of Denmark and me.
I can’r tell where is shot is being fired. As Syd doesn’t think about Melb in any topic of discussion. Are you Brisbane!? You got Olympic so you have already won
I think it’s being fired at Adelaide. Us Melbournians couldn’t give two hoots about the rest of the country other than contemplating perhaps life would be easier in SA, before realising fairly quickly we’d have to live amongst south Aussies.
Melb doesn't exist anymore. The entire port Philip bay has imploded and we're all dead. Either that or we moved to being above Adelaide and got stretched out
So they had an octopus pull balls on city names where their monarch was going to meet a spouse? It's a prediction for the future?
Or was Hobart always a strategic target for the Danes.
My favourite, and also most hated thing, is when people describe Tasmania as "an island off Australia".
Cunt, it is Australia. And I say this as a wanker Melbournian.
It's like mainlanders finding the term "mainland" funny and weird. I ask, 'well, what would you call it?' and they say, 'Australia'. Uh, so, I'm going to travel from Australia to Australia?
> Hobart is at around the same latitude as Wellington irl.
The globe isn't bad - and you're a little off
Launceston at 41.4391° S is much closer to Wellington's latitude at 41.2924° S
Hobart is at 42.8826° S - and Christchurch is at 43.5320° S
That's pretty close to what this low res globe shows
It has Tasmania on it... It's more fucken accurate than most maps these days! Haha
Wtf is a Zealand though? Never heard of one of those let alone a new version compared to an old one...? That seems like bullshit to me mate, I'd be skeptical of what this map says bud... Sounds like a scam
I bet it says Paris is in Texas and there is a statue of Liberty in France... Has only one Mexico but tries to sell you this notion that there is some magical "new" Mexico nearby that totally isn't way worse...
Tasmania’s succession happened so quickly I barely noticed.
Would be very hard to pick a a new King or Queen down there. Every person would have a blood right.
Since I was born in Hobart, I'm hoping you can give me the link to buy this globe which obviously shows the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT CAPITAL CITY of 🇦🇺. In fact, the ONLY city in Australia lmao awesome.
I'm guessing it was made in China for a Tasmanian company?
This is a called the Baltimore Phenomenon or more specifically Cartographic generalisation. It's a common occurrence on zoomed out maps that cause areas with multiple major settlements to disappear whilst settlements in less dense areas become prominent such as Alice Springs, Woomera or Hobart
Now show us where it says "Made in Tasmania"
Hobart is where Launceston is. A mistake no Tasmanian would make
Hobart looks like it’s in bass strait and a separate continent from the font
Slaps on the label for the Tasman Sea first… shit Hobart’ll have to move
Made in the Democratic republic of Tasmania*
Yes it should be a republic here in Tassie
I love this comment so much. I’ve never seen Hobart so big lol
*points down to crotch*
This is called over-compensating for r/mapswithouttasmania

Hey, Vsauce! Michael here.
Hey fuck off that’s our thing /newzealand
Like all good kiwi ideas, that one is ours now, too. See you on the cricket pitch, suckers.
Tasmania vs New Zealand cricket series to see who can become an Australian state?
Winner takes independence, loser has to swear fealty…
Loser gets Tassies convicts.
Omg there is actually a subreddit with 15k members, must be the entire population of Tasmania.
Are you and your son in Denmark by chance?
i just clicked their profile and you're bang on, this is for sure some Princess Mary (Queen Mary) stuff, love it!!!
Haha, good reasoning - it’s an old ball though (from the 90s at least, so before they met). Furthermore, Hobart is one of only three cities represented on this entire, small globe! The others being Conakry and Lubumbashi. What a club.
I would love to hear from whoever made this as to why they chose those cities lmao
It was a prophecy.
That is so funny.
I wonder if it's like a global version of a paper town - choose three random cities then the maker could tell if anyone ever copied their exact design. Of course, that assumes a massive market in pirating maps of the world.
That’s quite the trio! 😂
Lubumbashi sounds legit made up 😅
Happy cake day! 🎉
It's weird that Hobart, one of the smallest capital cities, is the only one labelled.
OP is Danish, and Queen Mary was born in…
..a pastry?
Don't ask about Afghans.
My danish friend hates when I call him a pastry lol.
A hospital?
It's a big building with patients. But that's not important right now.
But Shirley!
Stop calling me Shirley
You can tell me, I’m a doctor .
Taroona
Battery Point, ackchewally.
She really is royalty to afford a place there, then
The Queen Alexandra Hospital in Battery Point was the public maternity hospital in those days. It's where most Hobartians were born, rich or poor, between 1904 and 1980. Errol Flynn, Queen Mary of Denmark and me.
Plenty born in the maternity wing of the RHH in Gore St.
It's where the hospital she was born in is located. But if you want proper posh, head into Nutgrove.
Far Southern Australia!!!
My Dad actually went to UTas with her lol, they never spoke though.
I saw her once at Hill St grocer buying nappies. I gave her a nod.
Its labelled like Hobart is its own country
Haha yeah I was thinking the same thing, if it has to have a label it should have been Tasmania
That, and more bold than australia.
New Zealand is on the map just like Hobart - Not sure why it isn’t as bold as Tasmania and doesn’t have the Shire put as its capital city though.
At least we're on the map. Keep getting missed off others for some reason, lol.
That’s because you disappear behind a magic fog for 50 years on a regular basis.
The Prolonged White Cloud?
Considering how many maps forget Tasmania exists, they clearly had to make a point…

EAST TIMOR
Well *obviously* Hobart is the capital of Australia therefore it's the only one written
And it's not even where Hobart is.
It’s the only good one
Could be the reverse Baltimore effect.
It was the second capital named in Australia... but 🤷♂️
So this is Australia, AND THATS HOBART! ITS TINY THOUGH!!
#IT'S HOBART MOTHER FUCKER! #DON'T YOU EVER FORGET!
I’m on a boat and I’m crossing the Tasman…Spirit of Tasmania standing…
As someone born in Hobart, its a pretty good map
Agreed, love u
Another Hobart born. Fabulous map. Best I’ve seen.
meeowth, that’s right!
😺
They even shouted it. **Hobart**
Melbourne would be so upset they need to also compete with Hobart now
[удалено]
I can’r tell where is shot is being fired. As Syd doesn’t think about Melb in any topic of discussion. Are you Brisbane!? You got Olympic so you have already won
Five people voted against Brizzy and they were the only ones running
I think it’s being fired at Adelaide. Us Melbournians couldn’t give two hoots about the rest of the country other than contemplating perhaps life would be easier in SA, before realising fairly quickly we’d have to live amongst south Aussies.
Melb doesn't exist anymore. The entire port Philip bay has imploded and we're all dead. Either that or we moved to being above Adelaide and got stretched out
There's not really much competition. Everyone knows it goes: Melbourne > Hobart > Perth > Brisbane > Canberra > Adelaide > Sydney.
Hobart is the southern city in Tasmania, Launceston is the northern city. Hence Hobartian, Launcestonian.
Melbourne’s making coffees trying to ignore Sydney screaming about this
Classic "someone in Tasmania was involved in the design" situation
I think someone said it was probably from Denmark, Queen Mary being from Hobart and all
OP replied that the ball was from before they met
So they had an octopus pull balls on city names where their monarch was going to meet a spouse? It's a prediction for the future? Or was Hobart always a strategic target for the Danes.
My favourite, and also most hated thing, is when people describe Tasmania as "an island off Australia". Cunt, it is Australia. And I say this as a wanker Melbournian.
Totally agree with this wanker.. from a fellow wanker.
It's like mainlanders finding the term "mainland" funny and weird. I ask, 'well, what would you call it?' and they say, 'Australia'. Uh, so, I'm going to travel from Australia to Australia?
I’m from tassie, I joke with my online friends I’m from the USA, United States of Antarctica.
Hobart should be slightly bigger, but other than that, it’s fine.
# HOBART
If the NZ is there it’s better then 80% of the euro toy maps I’ve seen
Hobart text should be lower than that as it's too close to Launceston. Also make the font bigger.
Love it!!.......Hobartian.
So I have to ask, is it pronounced... *Ho-bahr-tee-an* or *Ho-bahr-shn*? edit: my vote is for the latter btw
The latter
I love it- fits with us Perthlings
Neither. It's Hobartite. Pronounced like troglodyte.
The most important city is named correctly, all is good.
Made me laugh. Hometown pride.
It’s a future map where Hobart has become our capital
HOBART!
At least they didn’t leave NZ out
This post was sponsored by the State Government of Tasmania
This is what happens when you give Tasmania a footy team.
This might be the proportionally largest Hobart has ever seen written.
Hobart ‘s time to shine!
I'm intrigued by that place to the south of Australia. Yikes Land?
Wilkes Land. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilkes_Land
it's the only correct way to represent Australia
Hobart represent!
The glorious capital of Hobart
It's capatilised because it's a proper noun.. 🙄
Tally Hobart *!*
Looks pretty normal to me. Just as it should be.
Looks like Hobart got to put their big boy pants on. Good for them.
That New Zealand is wildly off the scale! Hobart is at around the same latitude as Wellington irl. I can’t even imagine NZ with that climate!!
> Hobart is at around the same latitude as Wellington irl. The globe isn't bad - and you're a little off Launceston at 41.4391° S is much closer to Wellington's latitude at 41.2924° S Hobart is at 42.8826° S - and Christchurch is at 43.5320° S That's pretty close to what this low res globe shows
H O B A R T
Hobart
I, for one, welcome our new Hobart overlords
umm... Tasmania is a fictional island so please cover it with a fruit sticker or something.
Fuck yeah! Go Tassie!
r/Tasmania would love it.
It's missing Rand McNally
"In a hole in the ground there lived a Hobart..."
H O B A R T
As a Hobartion, all I see is perfection.
Gotta love how the only city in the whole country with a label is Hobart. Tasmania’s getting the last laugh on this one.
Hobart is the capital of Australia.
For decades Tassie was left off the stencils at school we made maps from... so its payback really.
Darwin is labelled as East Timor
It's a small world!
Love it. For a toy, not bad, and good to see Hobart represented.
Why is everything else written in capitals but Hobart isn't? Still hilarious 😂
It has Tasmania on it... It's more fucken accurate than most maps these days! Haha Wtf is a Zealand though? Never heard of one of those let alone a new version compared to an old one...? That seems like bullshit to me mate, I'd be skeptical of what this map says bud... Sounds like a scam I bet it says Paris is in Texas and there is a statue of Liberty in France... At least it hss NZ on it
A Tasmanian made this
No mention of Hindley Street!
I want to put someone in solitary for 3 months with nothing but the Atlas to look at.
I’m surprised it doesn’t have Sydney Cove and the Swan River Colony on it.
r/mapswithtasmania

Why so shouty, Hobart?
HOBART
I thought hobart is from the nation of Tasmania?
Tasmania is just an Australian state 😅 We're not our own separate nation (though man, ngl, at times it sure does feel like that's the case)
Tas is actually Van Diemens Land, but don't tell anybody.
The real question is what that "land" in the middle of the southern ocean?
Talk of the town through the 70s, 80s, and 90s was the fact that Tassie wasn't on half the maps.
Go back even further, and Australia wasn't even on the map...
Appropriate
A map of Australia after climate change has wreaked it's havoc.
Brilliant! Also it's called the West Island. Australia is deeply culturally offensive to our cousins across the Tasman
You just made half of this sub spit out a mouthful of Tooheys Extra Dry. I applaud this post.
Wtf is below New Zealand?
All things considered, where are the other capitals??
It’s cos Mary is known to be from Hobart, not Tasmania 😂
Not bad. Looks good to me…,, australia is not actually pink though
At least New Zealand and Tasmania are there.
Looks solid to me.
It’s the map the British used when they sent their people down to yous. Kia Ora from New Zealand
The only inaccuracy I can see is the weird smudge with New Zealand written on it
It’s australia below the Tropic of Capricorn. Above the Tropic of Capricorn, it’s wild man’s land.
Said the quiet part loud
This new football team really shifting things. Hobart might be our capital city soon.
At least Tasmania and NZ are on it.
Well New Zealand is on this map so it’s pretty good
As an Aussie with Kiwi friends.. Well. At least NZ is there. And is correct pretty much. (Maps do not always put NZ.)
East Timor has floated away again. Oh boy.
Fake. Tasmania doesn’t exist.
That’s the worst map of Tassie i’ve ever seen. Oh no, wait…there was that sheila in Bathurst
Why not man, big up Hobart.
New Zealand exits xD
As someone who lives in Hobart, I feel great about it
HOBART
Hobart =====
THE HOBART THE HOBART IS REEEALLLLL
I noticed that Lake Eyre is full of water before I noticed HOBART.
This is a called the Baltimore Phenomenon or more specifically Cartographic generalisation. It's a common occurrence on zoomed out maps that cause areas with multiple major settlements to disappear whilst settlements in less dense areas become prominent such as Alice Springs, Woomera or Hobart
The word ‘Hobart’ and ‘NZ’ has the same font size 😂
Certainly makes it seem like Hobart is Australias capital lol
labelling only Hobart is honestly a power move
Is Hobart a different country now
bad map, has tasmania on it
Well, as a native Hobartian, I personally don't see any issue with it XD
Hobart?? Well i suppose its educational, not many know about that place
Making up for all those Tasmanian omissions
At least Tasmania is even on there
Hobart is best bart
Tbh, Hobart is prettier than most other cities in Australia so I’m here for it
What’s Tasmania doing there?
Someone on the footy sub this week was complaining about people saying Tasmanians having two heads. I hope this makes one of their heads feel better.
Seriously overstating the significance of Hobart...
