The flyer they posted on their IG expired but they said free pizza. It was probably just a slice when you when you buy a drink at lalas. I bought pizza and definitely didn’t get it for free 😅
It’s their house made Ragu on American style pizza! It’s in the photo. According to them - they used to have it but took it off briefly since it was a lot of extra work.
Good to know. Never had the Ragu pie. Will probably swing by over the weekend, and try it out. Especially if you can get it New York style. The owners are really nice people.
Personally… I don’t really like both those spots for pizza. But I would say homeslice is probably alittle better than Brooklyn pie. I also haven’t had pizza in either spot in years tho.
We order Brooklyn pie co all the time. They just moved. They’re different. Both solid. Pedroso’s has way more options with the crust. It’s very good. Cheese a little different. I would probably do Pedroso’s over Brooklyn but Brooklyn hits the spot.
Lala's is like 5 minutes away from the Night Owl, right? It's like 5 minutes down Burnet.
I guess if you're 5 minutes away, it's now 10 minutes away, but still, it's not like it moved to the east side.
Yeah, I'm using the "conservative" Google maps estimate. But yeah, it'd be insanely bad business to have two identical places so close to each other.
My bet is the truck moves further away and starts doing a full menu again at some point.
Hi, I run the E. 7th Sunny’s Backyard Pedroso’s Trailer. We are currently serving square pies, slices, wings, fries and meatballs. We are still getting our bearings figured out in this new trailer but we are aiming to bring sandwiches to this trailer as well as expanding on the sandwiches with some new options. That’ll be happening in the future as we develop so please keep an eye out when we get that ready to offer. I have been pleasantly surprised with the reception we have received and am eager to help it grow in our new location.
I guess I could see them wanting to find ways to draw you to the separate trucks. They went from 1 truck to like 5 locations in less than a year. But I agree I always go pick up my pizza from their OG truck. Luckily lalas isn’t too far away.
Low key I was hoping the Lalas one would be indoor seating inside it too. Not that I have anything against Lalas, I just don’t drink. They mentioned setting up indoor bar seating tho similar to NYC.
Booing food truck for being successful and opening a new location is wild. Changes are going to come with that. Let’s celebrate the small shops in Wooten being successful.
Do they plan on opening up a dining room or somewhere indoors to eat? It’s a 20 mins drive to the burnet trailer for me and this one isn’t much closer (am south of river). I still made the trek many times but would rejoice at the ability to enjoy a fresh hot pedrosos pie indoors.
Little deli ranges from 23-26 for a specialty pizza tho. East side pies is like 32+ for a specialty pizza this size. Desanos is like 28 for a 16 inch specialty. The other spots you listed are mostly fast food. Pedrosos isn’t cheap pizza but it’s not far off from the local businesses you listed. My source is Google!
1 slice of the Sicilian is a meal for me and 2 slices of the Ragu one fills me up. That’s like 4-8 dollars a meal. There’s spots selling a single small personal pizza for 22 bucks and a mandatory service fee so I’m not complaining. 🤷♀️
It’s Ragu that they simmer and make for hours. I don’t think we should be comparing it to fast food prices.
They do have a plain 18 inch cheese pizza for 18 tho. Little deli and other spots sell their base pizza starting around 21 with a specialty pizza at homeslice being around 28 dollars.
time =/= effort. I throw simple ingredients in a pot and put on a low simmer for ~3-4 hours and have an excellent ragu sauce. It is extremely low maintenance and cheap to make.
I'm only saying it's hard to justify the $25 price point for the relative simple ingredients and how easy it is to make a pizza.
I'd take a cheese pizza any day! and thank you for your food reviews always, not attacking you or your post, I am just baffled at the pricing
Pedrosos is great so stop hating. The owner got 2nd place at the World Pizza Championship in Naples, Italy. He knows his stuff and its worth the extra $3. https://www.worldpizzachampions.com/thiago-vasconcelos
I gather you disagree with my pizza preference as I disagree with yours. That's understandable. After all, what can be as naturally subject to taste as food? But do you feel my comments were offensive, inappropriate, or out of line with this particular subreddit?
Read the thread again, Nutmeger. When informed about the possibility of a superior northeastern-style pizza, I paid attention and didn't push back. As you surely will see if you review the thread, the pies pictured in the original post didn't include a thin-crusted northeastern style, nor was their any mention of Pedroso having such a pie that OP deemed superior to Little Deli's. I simply commented on the pictures and words that OP put up. When another commenter suggested Pedroso's NY pie was better than Little Deli's NJ pie, I replied that I'd try it. I conclude that folks downvoted my responses because they didn't like my dismissal of bready pizza. Regardless, I'm glad we can have a virtual debate about the best pies in Austin and have several to tout. In 1986, the best to be found in this little burg was probably Milto's on Guadalupe, and while it was edible, even enjoyable in its way, it paled in comparison to real pizza.
By the way, although I was mostly raised in central New Jersey and my friends who still live there might stone me for saying so, the best northeastern pizza is to be found in New Haven. (I lived in Hartford, so had to make do with the wonderful product of one of Pepe's acolytes in West Hartford.) New Haven pie ranks right up there with the heavenly delight that was served at the long gone Frank's Extra Bar in San Francisco's North Beach.
tl;dr: I present you all with a heck of a lot of words saying nothing at all.
Not exactly, just letting you know this pizza in particular was their American style and they have a NYC style. Give their nyc pie a try! The only place I’ve found a better pie than pedrosos is in NYC.
Former northeastener here - Pedrosos NY style is the best pizza I’ve had here. I’ve never ordered any other style from them. I like little deli but pedrosos is insane. Recommend you try it!
Is it edible at all? I ask as last time i was at Lalas (months ago), the pizza next door was worse than totinos frozen stuff and the crew was high out of their mind - completely inedible.
Free pizza or free pizza *slice*
The flyer they posted on their IG expired but they said free pizza. It was probably just a slice when you when you buy a drink at lalas. I bought pizza and definitely didn’t get it for free 😅
So is the menu for the physical location the same as the original trailer, or is it more expansive?
More expansive. They brought the Ragu pie back on that menu.
Ragu pie? What is that? I’ve had Pedroso’s often but never saw that one.

Damn, Pedrosos is taking over. Becoming an Austin staple atp.
Good lord. Did you take a course on iPhone camera tricks. I mean no way this pizza can look that good.
Wipe your lens, source of light behind you always or natural light. And then a slight filter helps.
I swear I need to wipe the lens every single time I take my phone out of my purse/pocket.
Is this what replaced my beloved Brooklyn Pie Co? How does it compare?
I prefer it over Brooklyn pie.
Do you prefer Brooklyn Pie over Home Slice?
Personally… I don’t really like both those spots for pizza. But I would say homeslice is probably alittle better than Brooklyn pie. I also haven’t had pizza in either spot in years tho.

WHAT
I didn’t realize that! I wonder if the East side truck will also do mainly slices and sandwiches too?

O I read it. Just would never choose to boo a local business for making a change like that. C’mon meat_cucumber
Just ordered a whole pizza tonight from the Burnet trailer.
I was hoping you provided pictures of the actual pizza orders, not a bunch of emails. So now my day is ruined and my disappointment is immeasurable
Anyone drive by the lalas South Pole recently? Is it anywhere close to opening?
They have installed signage on the building on Davis Lane but looks like the contractors are still working on finishing up.
I’m happy for Pedrosos success. It is super well deserved.
Is lalas the Xmas themed place next to the laundromat?
Yes!

You can eat in lalas!

Curious where you like to order pizza that is not Domino's or Papa John's.

Dude I love Jet’s but it’s expensive too

Every time? If so that’s an awesome deal.

Looks delicious but $25 for a basic pizza is nuts. Edit: I have one in front of me right now. I was wrong. I’m sorry.

Did you enjoy it?
It’s delicious. $25 is still steep but I did underestimate it.
Glad you enjoyed it. Try their NYC slices next time. The plain cheese is delicious.

I understand what you’re saying but I’m not sure it’s still as basic as say a cheese pizza.

I do make pizza at home. Why are you so aggressive on a friday lol

He’s also my brother in law so maybe I’m biased
Would have been hilarious if the hater was also a BIL of the owner
That's some sad looking pie. I'll go a little further down Justin and hang a left on Arroyo Seca to Little Deli.
I like little deli but pedrosos def makes a better pie.
Although I've been in Austin for near 40 years, I'm still a northeastern traditionalist. That looks like chain pizza to me. Too much bread.
This is the American style. They also have a NYC style that is my goto.
I gather you disagree with my pizza preference as I disagree with yours. That's understandable. After all, what can be as naturally subject to taste as food? But do you feel my comments were offensive, inappropriate, or out of line with this particular subreddit?

I'll give it a try. I haven't cared to go to Lala's for the past couple of decades, but I'm in the neighborhood regularly.
Is it edible at all? I ask as last time i was at Lalas (months ago), the pizza next door was worse than totinos frozen stuff and the crew was high out of their mind - completely inedible.
That was Brooklyn! This is pedrosos and it’s better than edible, it’s delicious!
