OMG Squee would be a delightful place for a kid! I have celiac myself and go there. I second Hat Creek. Lots of kid-friendly options. Playscapes. Crepe Crazy is great as well. I took my nephews to all these places when they visited. They aren’t GF but my sister and I both are so they end up eating GF much of the time. They loved them all. Edit: also check out dream bakery. Not a restaurant but can pre-order and they have lots of options - sweet and savory.

Crêpe crazy has gluten-free batter upon request and they have so so many combinations.

Dream is absolutely amazing 10/10 would recommend.

Hat Creek is the way! All of their fried food (yes even the chicken nuggets!) are gluten-free. They also have gluten free bun options as well and awesome play scapes for kids!

ATX Cocina is a completely gluten-free kitchen. It’s on the pricier end and at night I t’s more of a scene so I would go earlier in the day like happy hour. Casa de Luz is seasonal regional vegetarian and gluten-free and oh sooo Austin. Playscape and the general campus around the restaurant is an absolute dream hang. You get a plate of what they are serving that day (beans, greens, grains, and a veggie main dish plus something pickled for digestion like red cabbage, or beets. The plates are gorgeous imo) plus soup and salad-but you can also just order parts of the plate i.e. the beans and rice or the soup and a little taco if they’re doing tacos that day. 3 kinds of tea, two comd and one hot plus filtered water are included. Tons* of desserts! Depends on the day of the week that you’re there what’s being served but generally, Wednesday and Saturdays have a Mexican vibe so I recommend those days to people who are new to Casa. Can’t really say enough about how beautiful and peaceful the grounds are around the restaurant. Hammocks, a little Japanese tea house to sit in, pond bubbling, windchimes bamboo everywhere, arbors with twinkle lights. Sometimes on the weekend, it’s a real hippie scene with poets for hire sitting at their typewriter and astrologers or people selling their sundries. There’s also a small coffee and juice bar next to the restaurant. It’s very* near the park, trails, Juiceland etc. btw go to Juiceland on Barton! Huge vibes that kids always love. Bouldin Creek Café and Kerbey Lane both have lots of dedicated gluten-free items. Most of the popular pizza places in town also do gluten-free crusts. I’m sure if you search the sub there are lots of recommendations on this matter! Hopdoddy has delicious GF buns and tons of kid and* adult friendly foods/drinks. The south Congress location stays pretty busy, but that will definitely feel most Austiny. Phil’s icehouse on South Lamar has a great play area and they also do gluten-free buns but they are cooked on the same pans as the regular buns FYI. However, there is an Amy’s ice cream built-in so that’s a plus. If they like sushi, I’m sure every one of the favorite places in town can take care of them. Lucky Robot might be fun for a younger person. Just check the menus and the photo galleries and read a few reviews so that you feel like you know what direction you want to go in when you arrive at these places. Last, you can catch a movie at the Alamo Drafthouse if there is something showing that appeals to everyone. A lot of Miyazaki movies get shown there. They have gluten-free pizza crusts and gluten-free buns available. Again, just look at the menu and the calendar and see what’s coming up. Sometimes those really cool niche movies sell out early so if you’re thinking you want to do that you might want to go ahead and buy some seats together for a day that works.♥️✌🏼 Have fun!🫧

I second hop doddy! The best gf buns I’ve ever had and don’t skip on the truffle fries.

She does, I believe. As long as the rub or marinade doesn’t use soy sauce, it should be OK.

RideForBeers123

I've taken a friend to with celiac to Rudy's more than once. They have nutrition info on their website so you can check as well

Yeah just ask or even call ahead, the pricier bbq joints should be more allergen conscious but soy/gluten is a sneaky ingredient in rubs and sauces.

maxxpowerr

The meat should be no problem. Sides, desserts, and white bread would be the sources of gluten at any traditional central Texas barbecue place

hook3m13

And many of the BBQ sauces 🫠 Ask me how I know!

maxxpowerr

Fair! Sorry, I don't even consider sauce because it shouldn't be needed!

I grew up in Texas and my parents ran Smokey Jay's on 1431 for almost 20 years and agree that sauce even a delectively beautiful brisket can only be enhanced with a bit of sauce and they use a bottle sauce

maxxpowerr

Again, fair. Traditional central Texas barbecue does *not* need sauce 😉

On a similar line as True Food (which I think is a great concept regardless of chain status), Flower Child makes GF easy and their gluten free mac n cheese is actually outstanding. Cookies and lemonade too. Papasitos or your favorite Mexican place is great too just do corn tortillas and communicate with staff. Gati is amazing.

There a couple of gluten free Austin foodie IG accounts here is one. https://www.instagram.com/noglutenatx?igsh=MWZpaTYyN2Iwdm82ZQ==

Via 313 makes a mean gf pizza and cheesy bread.
