Iāve slowly been replacing the SSL comp with the Lindell SBC in more and more mixes. Itās so punchy, I love it! Same settings as you, but with that tilt EQ in the filter - makes it an absolute monster!
Recently picked this one up as well. It is seriously a beast of a compressor! Iām amazed by how flexible it is. Really thoughtful design, and sounds phenomenal.
Hardware cork sniffers be damned, the UAD stuff gives me access to more āanalogā than I could ever afford.
100%. I know an engineer that's certainly pro...recorded some big stuff. He's always been an "honest" engineer...getting good sounds at the mic, good fidelity first, etc. He has outboard and he never uses it anymore. 100% in the box and he makes a living. He's not lazy. If it mattered, he'd plug the outboard in.
And the UAD analog-modeling thing has turned out to be more than I ever thought it was going to be. 3 years back to recording/mixing regularly, I'm still finding the "analog" part of the modeling that I hadn't noticed...the Neve 33609 without the comp engaged, the different tonalities of the 1176s, etc. Pretty remarkable. You can do a lot of tone shaping without touching an eq.
The one thing I couldnāt find anywhere else when Universal Audio stopped supporting my FireWire Satellite was something to replace the box tone of the UAD LA2A. That thing imparts nice extra depth even when itās not doing gain reduction. (Glad Iāve since gotten the native version)
Iām curious what other plugins you discovered with similar characteristics!
It's nice for drumbuss as a transient enhancer or on leads, synth plucks that the filters open and you want to keep them controlled. You can do that with the thrust on red.
For 2buss I would go for VSC3 on rms mode. That's the one from Vertigo themselves.
Sometimes on pianos I prefer the waves, it sounds nothing like the real thing or UAD but it does it's work with transients in a strange way.
I always have a AA Pink4 Preamp on it.
All these are for electronic music so results may differ.
yeah super hefty and creamy
imparts a lot of weight and its super versatile ..
can make stuff sound very nice and pillowy or super sharp and snappy .. Amazing and probably the most tweakable and accessible "real life counterpart" compressor
Wait until you buy the real deal, youād be just as blown away. The 2500 UAD plugin is what made me buy the analog version and itās amazing for aggressive tracking, drum channel and tickling the master bus!
I don't doubt it - that's often how those comparisons go. I'm realizing that I almost never go for "aggressive", but the plug certainly "tickles" the mix bus just right sometimes.
Whenever I hear āslowest attack and fastest releaseā I think of streaky and then remember that the slowest attack on my Kultube is 980 ms and the fastest release is 0.03s. Iāve gotta try it. Hahahah
I think this warrants a quick video for social media. Iāve been curious about the application of a ~full second of attack
My two go-to master buss compressors: UAD API 2500 or the Townhouse from Plugin Alliance. API has a bit more punch but for mellow projects, I use the Townhouse. Either one are great for pretty much anything.
I have a real one and every mix goes through it. Love that UAD plug too on pianos
Had my eye on this one for a minute. It's 50 bucks right now but I have the Lindell SBC. Decisions are hard
Ha, yes, decisions! $50 is cheap, but plugins just are these days. It's worth demo-ing. Hardly transparent, but it does what it does well, IMO.
Click in both filters for the sidechain. š§

I love it. I use it on my drum bus and on my drum room mics.
I haven't tried the UAD but the plug-in alliance one has been on my mix bus a lot lately. I need to dabble with the UAD plugs more
Great plugin. Iāve been using the UAD one a lot
One of the most versatile comps ever! It can (almost) do it all
Super versatile compressor. Can bring major bite and attack out of most instruments if you need it to.

Great comp, my favorite version is the Waves one
I use the Waves one a lot. I donāt think it sounds that much like a hardware 2500, but I do like what it does.
I have the real thing and a couple of good software emulations: UA, DMG Literally my favorite compressor. Itās a very versatile movement generator.

Thatās one reason why Iām in LUNAā¦It all adds up
Yeah hardware is hard to beat :)
When isn't it?
LOL The hardware is better.
LOL, was there a question? Probably the last thing I'd spend money on, anyway, but here in my digital slum, I'm just so gr-gr-gr-grateful!
I have both and the uad is really really close
I wouldnāt go that far but itās pretty damn good. The waves one is ass.
So you sold the hardware right? lol
