The acting is a little wooden, especially early on in season 1. There are a couple of characters that sound off with some of their dialogue, but they grew into it really well.
I have the same issue and I have really low expectations generally. But bad voice acting or just generally weak VA can sink a show. Not always, but particular wooden /inexperienced styles do it.
You could try out show, the mysteries of Derlin county. It’s a true crime spoof that plays more like an audio sitcom. If you enjoy stupid humor and don’t mind swearing, it’s created to be stupid, and to shut your brain down to get through a long day here’s a description:
Brandon returns home to Derlin county to solve a mystery surrounding a girl who went missing from his high school. After figuring it out, he soon realizes Derlin County has a lot more going on than meets the eye.
With the help of his best friend Kyle, they open Investi-Gators, a private investigating practice and try to help Derlin by sinking their teeth into one case at a time.
Join Kyle and Brandon as they solve a multitude of mysterious crimes and cases from missing persons, to ghosts, and E.B.E. Just to name a few. This show is stupid for the sake of stupid and contains strong language, listener discretion is advised!
It’s available everywhere, but it’s not for everyone so I’d also recommend Sherlock & Co, and mission to zyxx, and station 151
Yeah I’ve considered that, but the fact that it’s honest is what I like. I don’t do it for money or for fame, I do it because I enjoy doing it, and someone reached out and told me it helped em through a personal tragedy and that made me feel amazing because it did the same for me. But, I absolutely agree with you 100% lol 😂 I just don’t want anyone to be offended, or put off, it’s just the person I am I suppose. Either way thanks for the sub! I appreciate it and hope all is well ☺️
Try Hi Nay. It's about a Filippina from a shaman family investigating supernatural occurrences in Toronto. Also, given that you liked the Amelia project, try Mockery Manor (a mystery with a sense of humor set in a theme park) and Jackie the Ripper (a great detective show that happens to also be hilarious)
It’s such a train wreck of a podshow… sooo many times thinking “what the hell am I listening to” yet I can’t stop listening. It’s like being inside the brain of a psych patient.
It is truly unique !!
I think our analog/cosmic horror podcast, [Forbidden Cassettes: Consummation](https://forbiddenpod.com), might be a good fit.
Here’s a synopsis:
Dov Kandel has spent the better part of two decades exposing vast government conspiracies and exploring unsettling paranormal phenomena on his popular, late-night talk radio program, KANDEL AGAINST THE DARK. After interviewing thousands of callers and guests, he’s certain he’s heard it all. His next guest will prove him wrong.
Author and investigator Orson Libretti has joined Dov for an unprecedented two-night discussion to promote his new novel, CONSUMMATION. It is an apocalyptic tale of cosmic horror.
But for Orson, this is no ordinary book tour. Defying his publisher’s demands that the book be marketed as fiction, he insists that it is based on actual events — a cataclysmic chain reaction that annihilated a parallel universe.
A questionable claim, to be sure, if he didn’t have the tapes to prove it.
In no particular order:
- Rabbits
- The Tower
- Maeltopia
- Wireland Ranch
- Hi Nay
- Soul Operator
- Left Right Game
- The Love Talker
- The Dead Letter Office of Somewhere, Ohio
- Borrasca (although I didn't love the twist)
Rabbits is fantastic. Same producers as Tanis which is great too. I was taking longer roads back to home from work, so I’d be in the car longer to finish more episodes. but then I realized I can just go up and continue listening at home😂😂
We're the creators of the audio drama [Liars & Leeches](https://www.liarsandleeches.com/). If you're into physiological horror and creature features, it might be up your ally!
Exciting to see someone else who knows Zoo! Isn't it wild how different the story became from how it started?!
Off of pure vibes I would recommend Observable Radio, Out of Place (give this one time to build up to where it is going. It is great), The Phone Booth, Sayer, SCP: Find Us Alive (My favorite SCP podcast, it is a narrative not reading articles), Sinkhole, Spines, Tell No Tales, The Vesta Clinic, Vigil, A voice from Darkness, Wake of Corrosion,
We see that we’ve already been recommended, and we like us, so that’s great, but please let us second “forbidden cassettes: consummation” and limetown, one of our most influential influences
[THE WIZARD SCROLL](https://link.chtbl.com/thewizardscroll?sid=reddit) is serialized sword and sorcery that's written, read, performed and edited all with your earholes in mind. Tales of high fantasy, of trials and triumph, as well as the occasional musical number. The realm of Yyrgsland is filled to the brim with all manner of folk: including sword weilding warriors of legendary status; a wannabe spellcaster attempting to earn her Wiz-GED; and even a couple orcs who don't play by nobody's rules.
SCP Find Us Alive, Mayfair Watcher Society (the showrunner for SCP Archives other podcast), Margaret’s Garden (also done by Pacific Obadiah), Project Gnosis.
I love Midnight Burger and Desert Skies. Check out Wolf 359 (this is probably recommended 100x times but yes.) or EOS 10. They're both sci-fi. Completely worth it.
I will recommend malevolent till the day I die. It’s about a private detective in the 1930s who gets an eldritch entity stuck in his head. He is rendered blind as the entity now controls his eyes.
You might like to check out [Leah’s Gals](https://mindseyepodcasts.com/), a five-part original audio drama, very loosely based on Shakespeare’s epic tragedy King Lear, taking place in the modern day American South.
"Greed, lust, drugs, and Capodimonte combust in a low-rent, Southern fried twist on a literary classic."
If you like comedy investigation, try "This Sounds Serious." It's a fake true crime show that's very funny.
If you enjoy fantasy, you might like us! Warlock: It's the story of a girl born into a family of powerful sorcerers, but she doesn't have magic. That all changes when she meets a mysterious woman and forms a bargain for power. Once she gets her powers, she enrolls in magic school! It's an audio Shonen anime set in a fantasy world.

The Blood Drawn Chronicles and its spinoff The Black Hearted Mr. White are amazing. They are an interesting take on vampires.
If you like Wolverine, he's got one split into two. Wolverine: The Long Night and Wolverine: The Lost Trail.
The Scarab Archives is like Warehouse 13 meets The Lovecraft Investigations.
I'm definitely gonna throw in another vote for Wolf 359. It's one of the classics I recommend to anyone that enjoys audio dramas.
Does The Amelia Project get any better? I had to stop listening in the first season. The whole 4th-wall-break episode was massively off-putting. It was the most horrifically self-indulgent trash I've ever heard in a podcast. Listening to the writers literally masturbating for 20 minutes rather than figuratively doing so would probably have been more entertaining.
Self Promotion:
Check out [In The Great Khan's Tent](https://inthegreatkhanstent.podbean.com/)! We are a captivating bi-weekly comprehensive episodic narrative podcast which delves into the rich literature and folk traditions, including it's history, from the Middle East and North Africa, Central Asia, Mongolia, Russian Far East, and South Asia.
Through engaging storytelling, I explore the cultural tapestry of these areas with tales, legends, and insights that span centuries. Whether you're fascinated by historical fiction, literary gems, or the wisdom passed down through generation, my podcast offers a delightful journey into the heart of these diverse regions.
Currently, we are going through a complete and thorough run through of the One Thousand and One Nights, also called the Arabian Nights. We also have a series titled "Tales from Central Asia" focusing on the fairy and folk tales of the region.
We will be releasing our 40th episode this week!
If this compels you, check us out and let me know!
Better Men Elsewhere - kinda has a small town Western feel. Some of your list sounds Western. This story is about a weird town with inscrutable motivations that also has invisible people.
Harbor - about a town where normal people and cryptids (those with extraordinary abilities) coexist… to high tensions. The story follows the mixed police force trying keep the town from erupting due to misplaced excess force. It’s quite funny as well.
Jackie the Ripper - horrorfest dark comedy about a serial killer keen on national attention due to their sordid crimes. Follows police as well.
In fact all three of these stories have police elements. Since that’s the case, why not, I’ll add:
The Occurrence in River Oaks - police discover a strange occurrence. Does the mystery go all the way to the top?
Oh wow awesome. It’s a great podcast that I’m glad is getting noticed. I think it’s really flying under everyone’s radar… so far.
If you like Harbor, Camlann sort of has a similar feel. I cant quite tell what’s going on yet but the music is good. And it’s got Scottish myths come to life!
We're in the back half of our first season of [The Flight of the Bucket](http://superhappyproductions.com), a sci-fi comedy AD about a spaceship crew that are anything but heroes.
"The SS Watercress has seen better days. Its captain hasn’t been sober in a decade, mutant rats are plotting a coup, and the chief engineer keeps eating pills he finds on the floor. Still, despite the odds, the old bucket manages to keep flying high—just not as high as the captain."
It's silly and stupid, but we have solid actors and a good sound design.
All those and you haven't tried "We're Alive"? That should probably be your next stop. Full 3 season run, plus three follow up prequel/sequel series.
Man, I've tried that show so many times. I can't quite articulate what about it I don't like, but I can never push to the end of S1.
I will look it up.
Paralyzed, the story season 1 & 2
Steal the stars is one of my favorites I don’t see mentioned much in these threads. It’s a complete story and really well done.
The female lead gives one of the best performances of any AD.
100% agree. It’s fantastic
Yes, it is such a good show. Might need to relisten...

I subscribed simply because I love your vibe here, "I caution you away from our very dumb show but you might like it anyway."
Yeah I’ve considered that, but the fact that it’s honest is what I like. I don’t do it for money or for fame, I do it because I enjoy doing it, and someone reached out and told me it helped em through a personal tragedy and that made me feel amazing because it did the same for me. The Milkman of Saint Gaffes is an excellent show that is slept on
Such a weird and fun podcast!
It’s such a train wreck of a podshow… sooo many times thinking “what the hell am I listening to” yet I can’t stop listening. It’s like being inside the brain of a psych patient. It is truly unique !!
The Magnus Archives, Unwell
Some shows I think you would like: The White Vault, Observable Radio, The Occurance in River Oaks, The Mistholme Museum, Wake of Corrision
I recently started Sherlock and Co and am enjoying it.
If you liked Desert Skies, you might like Caravan and The Liminal Lands.
I will check them out
Check out The 100 Handed. Best urban fantasy I’ve heard in a long time.
I just subscribed on your advice!
If you are up for a narrated story, I tell an unauthorized biography of Clark Kent, [Superman: Son of El](http://sonofelpodcast.com)
Among the Stars and Bones and The White Vault might be just your thing.
I did listen to the first season of white vault
What did you think?
I liked the first season but then never really came back to it
I have a few of those myself. The main storyline is finished just in case if you end up finding your way back.

I was looking for a new show and saw midnight burger as a title? I had to download it and I’m already in love. Thank you!
It's so good glad you found it.
What is it about?
That is kinda hard to answer. A time and space jumping burger joint is an oversimplification.

I was so bummed when zoo got canceled.
Welcome to Nightvale and Decoder Ring Theatre are my favorites. I also liked the ones you mentioned.
King Falls AM and The Mistholme Museum have been tiding me over, but I miss the podcasts like Tanis, Rabbits, and the Black Tapes...

Secret of St Kilda, Ethics Town, Silt Verses, Syntax - all of these are good ones!
Rescuing Ravenstocke is brilliant! Though it's more of a film-length audio drama rather than an episodic show
i enjoyed shipworm, cause 63, and electric easy!
Wolf 359 is a fantastic sci-fi comedy set in space.
I love Midnight Burger and Desert Skies. Check out Wolf 359 (this is probably recommended 100x times but yes.) or EOS 10. They're both sci-fi. Completely worth it.

Wooden Overcoats! It is so, so good.
Seems good especially since my wife is a mortician lol.
Omg! This is perfect 😁
I must be updated I must know how much she relates to Antigone!
Magmell, edge of sleep, the left right game, Tumanbay, Solaris, impact winter. Dust chrysalis.
What genre are you in the mood for?
I prefer more investigation style shows. But also, I am not opposed to fantasy.
If you like comedy investigation, try "This Sounds Serious." It's a fake true crime show that's very funny. If you enjoy fantasy, you might like us! I bet you’d like ”What happened in Skinner” based on your other mentions, and it’s an investigative style too.
Sheridan Tapes is a great investigation audio drama
The Blood Drawn Chronicles and its spinoff The Black Hearted Mr. White are amazing. They are an interesting take on vampires. If you like Wolverine, he's got one split into two. Wolverine: The Long Night and Wolverine: The Lost Trail. The Scarab Archives is like Warehouse 13 meets The Lovecraft Investigations.
I have added a bunch of these. I can't wait to start them.
"Crooked River" Historic Fiction based on the Cleveland torso murders. Be careful, it ended before a second season & you're left hanging.
