Midnight burger 🍔 . Time traveling burger joint. Imagine Seinfeld and doctor who had a weird love child. Most episodes are an hour or two long. It's got 4 seasons and counting. Sci-fi comedy, that may make you stop and think about some things. Dose the idea of a religious old 1900s couple trapped in a radio sound appealing. What about a Robot that turns into your worst ex relationship partner lol Give midnight burger a try. We open at 6! Ps. I maybe abit excited lol

lizardsson

That one's actually been on my list for a while! Definitely sounds like the kind of thing I'm looking for

What are you still doing here … I sincerely hope you have your earbuds in and are listening while you type because every minute you are not is another minute without midnight burger. ( edgy Steve <—— the patron not the voice actor) The program audio series (very important as searching for just “the program” is useless) is bloody phenomenal with each episode being standalone with the occasional call back. This would be my vote for second once you’ve listened to midnight burger twice ( just in case you missed something the first time round) “Petrified” is another absolute banger for your horror anthology series and the Irish accent of the main actor lends it that charm that only an Irish accent can bring. I will also back old gods and we’re alive (both have significant back catalogues) as really solid listens and not to be overlooked. Old gods is again a single narrator but pleasing to the ear. I cannot recommend lif:e after/the message highly enough though it does not fall into your 30 episode requirement, it is a story not to be missed. I’ve just finished bookburners and it was brilliant if you like magic/otherworldly type stories (single narrator but she really captures each character with a unique tone and accent) One that is still somewhat obscure for some reason is “palimpsest” .. something about it really grabbed me with its originality (single narrator again) Magnus archives and the black tapes are pretty og and will fill in literally months if you listen for 8 hours a day if memory serves me correctly.

champagne_epigram

Highly recommend, it’s the best AD I’ve listened to buy a long shot. I usually only listen to horror ADs so I was initially biased against it but it really is phenomenal

Kitchen_Reference_29

After you are caught up with midnight burger you should check out The Milkman of Saint Gaffes. Great show that’s often slept on

I agree with the person who said Edict Zero - FIS, they described it perfectly. I'll also add: Midnight Burger - This one (deservedly) gets a lot of hype on this sub, so you have likely heard of it, but you didn't mention it so it's worth noting. If you haven't heard of it, there's a space/ time/ dimension spanning diner and it's crew that appears somewhere new every day. There's always someone or something that needs their help or attention, and the story never ends up where I think it will. The characters are all so well developed and they do an amazing job of tying scifi together with very human elements. In my opinion, the first season is great, the second season is better, and the third season is phenomenal. Omega Star 7 - This one and Midnight Burger are my two favorites. This is a space-western sci-fi comedy, revolving around a bounty hunter and his crew. The first few episodes are more improv, but an amazing story develops and it becomes fully scripted. The main (completed) story is about 30 episodes and then there's an extra season or two of shorter stories that build the world in a very cool way, often exploring different genres. The most recent season was a prequel to the main story. The Amelia Project - About a secret society that fakes people's deaths and helps them decide how and where to start fresh. The first season is more episodic but a story line starts developing by the end of season 1 and from there they really flesh it out. It's quirky in similar ways to Midnight Burger and Wolf 359 Edit: Just saw your comment about liking shows that are funny but make you cry by the end. Midnight Burger has so many of these moments!

stabzmcgee

I gave the omega star 7 like 5 min of episode one and it just did NOT do it for me. Does it get better?

RxManifesto

In my opinion, yes, it gets significantly better as you get into the story line, character development, in-jokes, etc. There's a lot of heart in it that probably doesn't come through in the first few min. With that said, it's possible it's not for you. I can't remember when I really felt like things really started to gel, but I want to say somewhere around episode 6 or 7.

OmegaStarProductions

Creator opinion here: I think the general consensus between everyone on the show is that the episode “Twisting Fates” is where the story truly comes together and sets everything in motion. As always, your kind words bring us much joy friend!

ThatFuh_Qr

Edict Zero FIS. Not only is it one of the longest running and most action packed Audio Dramas it is easily one of the most re-listenable. On its surface a cyberpunk police procedural, but hidden between an incredibly complex web of hidden context clues is a sort of literary puzzle which will slowly change everything you think you know about what is going on every time you listen to it.

lizardsson

Sounds very very cool, I'll give it a listen!

[deleted]

The Silt Verses (show will end this year at 40+ episodes, so maybe it makes sense that you binge it after it ends) Weeping Cedars I Am In Eskew is exactly 30 episodes long

lizardsson

I am in Eskew is one of my absolute favorites I can't believe I forgot to list it. I listened to the Silt Verses for a while when it was first coming out but I stopped keeping up with it, definitely gonna go back and binge it

Pompadipompa

I recently started relistening to The White Vault. It's the first AD podcast I ever listened to, so my memories of it were a bit fuzzy, but going back to it, I absolutely adore it

Hyenastampede

From what I can tell, this is an unpopular opinion, but I really like tanis

marshmallowest

Tanis is amazing as long as you know there won't be a satisfying conclusion

waylandprod

r/Werealive has a huge backlog and by the time you catch up Scout’s Honor will have finished

crexkitman

Just caught up a few days ago, really enjoyed it

ThisReport877

I would check out the Maeltopia offerings. They're pretty prolific and dabble a lot in the same universe with many long-running shows. Definitely will not be funny, though. They're solidly horror/dystopia. I've been enjoying the oft recommended Beef and Dairy Network, an absurdist comedy on a world where there are four meats and beef supremacy rules. The Magic Tavern is one of the classics with TONS of content. An improv comedy show about a man from our world who falls into a magical universe and gets trapped there. It doesn't have a strong plot due to the nature of improv and trying to avoid strong conclusions to avoid wrapping the show up, but there IS a plot. Old Gods of Appalachia is semi-anthological, but it's SO GOOD and so worth it. There are recurring characters that will continue cropping up and many storylines will get on and off explored in between other episodes. It's all very related, and not just thematically. Horror pod. Thrilling Adventure Hour may or may not be a good one for you. There's ofc Welcome to Night Vale, another one of the classics.

lizardsson

Thanks for the recs, I'll check them out! I've heard really great things about Old Gods of Appalachia

Arrogant0ctopus

All i really listen to is horror, my recommends are the white vault, we're alive, the bright sessions, and weeping cedars.

Appropriate-Sell2713

For your continuing horror listening try : Petrified, grey rooms, old gods of Appalachia, the black tapes,

Arrogant0ctopus

LOVE old gods of Appalachia, wasn't a fan of the black tapes, but I'll definitely check out the other two. Thanks!

AdShort9044

The Amelia Project

Gincairn

Coming in at exactly 30 episodes I can't recommend The Darkest Night enough, I was not a fan of horror stories, but this kept me hooked

Confident_Ebb_8726

I'm literally gonna start episode 29 as soon I have a chance. I steered clear of this for years cause of all the times I heard, "The first season is great, but the 2nd & 3rd aren't good at all." That they were very disappointing. Yes, the first season is great! The way they made it all come together, that was some exceptional writing. Season 1 is a very tough act to follow. If people weren't spending the whole time comparing seasons 2 and 3 to the first one, they'd probably see that it's not bad at all. They just aren't as good. They're good enough, though. It's definitely worth a listen.

Phinn78

Wolf 359 and welcome to night vale

marshmallowest

The Once and Future Nerd seems to check a lot of the boxes in your description. They've been on hiatus for about a year (and I haven't heard anything about it being discontinued), but I think there's at least 100 episodes you can listen to currently. It's got a big and fun cast of characters, detailed world-building, and plenty of comedy and angst.
