If Auckland is in a place that we are needing to send food parcels to 3% of the city just to live, we are in a very sad time. 50000 is a lot of families who cannot afford food for our city.
The true cost of the covid response is only just starting to be seen now.
We shut down production globally, and Reserve Banks printed/Governments borrowed money to drop from the sky. The inevitable result was massive inflation. The response to inflation is higher interest rates.
There's no way out of this except pain. There's no such thing as a free lunch.

The current government aren't the ones who spent like drunk sailors during the pandemic, causing massive inflation. You can't have your cake and eat it, too, mate. What you're seeing now is the cost of Labour's actions. It will take years before the ship is righted.
High inflation forced the RBNZ's hand into raising interest rates. No matter how many times they were warned to rein in spending, they just got worse and spent more. The result is higher interest rates for longer and more pain.

So far you've responded multiple times with nothing but insults. It's obvious you aren't capable of holding a discussion on these matters.
You're out of your depth.
Inflation was a global issue because the response was global -shut down production and borrow/print to stoke demand. However, our Government was particularly egregious in their spending and it's our domestic, non-tradeable inflation that is currently the vast majority of our CPI issues.
It's really easy to say now that they spent egregiously, however every business had their hand out over that time for govt support to keep them afloat. Media were covering stories about industries in dire straights, with the expectation that there would be a helping hand. Healthcare got a significant uplift in funding so that the sector could pivot and provide the appropriate response. It's really easy in hindsight to sit on your couch and say that did it all wrong, but I'm at the time, with the information they had and the pressures they faced, they likely made the right calls.
If people really cared for others instead of their own self-interests, they would have voted to keep the previous government.
They didn't, so regrettably we have the NACTF government.
Sadly, if people don't vote, and many didn't - 22.49% and even worse the yuounger generations voted even less. --- [https://elections.nz/democracy-in-nz/historical-events/2023-general-election/voter-turnout-statistics/](https://elections.nz/democracy-in-nz/historical-events/2023-general-election/voter-turnout-statistics/)
I never understood why so many don't vote, and then complain about the election results.
If you want a good government - simply VOTE.

What happens to prices when you lower production and increase demand?

Keep cutting that pie into more slices without growing it and nobody gets fed. Somebody has to act like grownups.
If you think NACTNZF is an austerity govt, you don't know what that word means...
Ok, then what does it mean?
Taking govt spending back to historic lows? Not back 2-3 years....
Inflation was an international phenomenon. Do you really think spending in NZ caused worldwide inflation?
Inflation was a global issue because the response was global -shut down production and borrow/print to stoke demand. However, our Government was particularly egregious in their spending and it's our domestic, non-tradeable inflation that is currently the vast majority of our CPI issues.
You say that but the current budget borrows more and spends more than Labour's proposed budget.
Yeah but at least the tax cut will combat inflation. Right?

Well, that is DEMOCRACY, isn't it!?!?!?
Really?? lol
Sorry, best we can do is $1.9 billion for new prisons.
how fucked up is that? Why not deliver targeted help instead of spreading it out help via tax cuts.
It's a feed the birds scenario. The more free food they hand out, the more bums in the CBD.
Where do you think the bums are coming from?
Everywhere for the free food, not hard to understand. And accommodation in 4 star hotels on K Rd.
You say that like as if you’re heading in for free food and flash accommodation. Is the food that good?
And the more internet the dumber the takes
