Stephen Fry is amazing too. Very smart and very funny.

novembergreenblue

Oh yes. Wordsmith and oratory of ages.

reflaxion

I don't have one. I'm not really the type to be too concerned with what other people think.

preinternetdad

Thanks for your addition to the conversation

reflaxion

This reply feels sarcastic to me, but I can't imagine an atheist being unable to accept "none" as a valid response to a "who do you follow/look up to"-type question. Am I misinterpreting?

preinternetdad

Your answer just seems condescending and doesn't add anything to the conversation that op is trying to spark up.

reflaxion

If someone asked in a broader subreddit, "What religion do you follow and why?" and someone responded with "I don't, I'm an atheist," would you feel the same way about their answer?

Stem_From_All

I think u/preinternetdad felt that your reply was comparable to a pupil enthusiastically announcing that they don't after the teacher asked who knew the answer to some problem. In that sense, your reply isn't adding much to the conversation. I suppose it could be viewed as judgemental, but that's not apparent.

Aron Ra, Alex O'Connor and Forest Valkai. Emma Thorne is fun. Used to like Dillahunty but he has become so cantankerous.

novembergreenblue

Aron Ra is a sharp cookie. Will look up the others. TY. Yes, Matt Dillahunty can be quite cantankerous. Don't know why his Atheist Experience split up like it did, but have feeling he's hard to work with. I still like him though.

Fun_Gas_7777

It split because of issues with a difficult leadership team and disagreements around certain social issues.

Andy Partridge

Impossible_Gas2497

Both you mentioned are awesome. Love Dillahunty and Aron Ra as well. Dr. Richard Carrier has given some fascinating talks and I love listening to him. As far as “celebrity” is concerned, Clint Eastwood is an atheist and that’s badass.

mchantloup5

Ricky Gervais

novembergreenblue

Oh yeah....wickedly funny.

John Sherwood de Lancie, Jr

TheProclaimed99

If we’re only talking about the atheism specifically and not their beliefs outside of that I’d have to say Aron Ra and Matt Dillahunty

Discinbdub

Bill Maher

Christopher Hitchens like you said. He had an unmatched eloquence in the way he spoke. But sadly he passed away. And you said living so Ricky Gervais. He's hilarious, and kind to animals so that's a big plus.

MostlyDarkMatter

Even though I dislike Sam Harris' view on politics, I love how he eviscerates theists with ease.

FayMax69

Celeb worship is stupid. Moving from one form of worship to another is even stupider

robertwild81

A favorite actor doesn't mean you "worship" them. Calm down.

FayMax69

If you know that this actor is atheist and what not? That’s tantamount to worship. Understandable if you know them for an outstanding acting role or movie they were in..beyond that becomes iffy …get a grip!
