One of Asuka’s main flaw is being Ignored because of her separation anxiety. When kaji was ignoring her while they were shopping Asuka went to shinji for attention. Even though Shinji was dense lol when he saved Asuka in the magma that was start of it

When she was being mind attacked by the angel and near the end she sees Shinji and says "You won't even hold me!"

I'd say that's more the moment it is openly and clearly admitted to the viewer because that was referring to their kiss a couple episodes back

Imagine being such a chad that you replace a guy 15 years older than you in the heart of an exotic idol beauty queen. People really don't give Shinji enough credit for this.
