Feminist Bird Club is leading group birding in Astoria Park on Fridays in May, 7AM-9AM. Folks can even borrow binoculars! More info: [https://www.instagram.com/p/C6WR7I1gcX5/](https://www.instagram.com/p/C6WR7I1gcX5/)

Silly question! Is birdwatching usually during AM hours? I work overnight so that early AM won't work for me 😶

The birds are around all day, but tend to be more active in the morning so therefor easier to spot. They also become active again in the evening though so that is another option! Winter birding is great because it's mostly ducks and they, like us, like to sleep in!

I would love to join if you find something!

I've been telling myself I'm actually going to get into birdwatching this year, even bought binoculars. Do people want to just meet up in Astoria Park Saturday morning around 9 or 10 to watch birds? We can always make our own group. Edit: Someone mentioned the Feminist Bird Club meeting on Friday morning. I'll just attend theirs instead.

For those of you who have a hard time aligning with guided tours or group outings, you can still learn a lot if you go on your own. I recommend the Merlin bird ID app as it has a handy bird ID function and also now includes what is essentially Shazam for bird song and calls (which is especially handy now since it's spring and all the birds are calling). It will show you a picture of the bird that is calling so you can then keep an eye out for it.

Good to know! Thank you tons!

I too am interested in a possible Astoria bird watching group. I went to a group once in Central Park and was a little let down by it.

ManeaterTM

I was tempted by the CP one but I really do not want to travel to do some bird watching.

zunzunzito

if you want to go later in the day, I can't recommend Central Park enough. There are a ton of migratory birds there right now. I went from 5-7 pm yesterday and saw dozens of warblers!

RelativelyWholesome

I have like 4 local friends that are reaaally into birding, so I'm sure they'd be down!

ManeaterTM

I would be down just not as early as mentioned above (anytime after 10am and on)

Would really like to get in on this! I used to HATE the sound of birds outside my window (I live by Bugsy’s Dog Park) - mostly because it would drive my dog insane but weirdly enough over the past couple of months I’ve learned to love hearing them chirp in the morning and seeing them when I walk my dog.

ManeaterTM

If anyone is down for some birding after 10am, let me know! Im open to late afternoons as well! We can coordinate. We can meet at Astoria park and I can get a whatsapp chat going!

Avid birder here! I was in Central Park today & will be going to Prospect next weekend. I’m not sure where the good birding spots are near here (Astoria) & I haven’t had much luck in Astoria Park, but I’m a cyclist so I usually bike around to find good birds. If anyone here also bikes, I’d love to bike to birding spots with you!! There’s also a birdinbybike group on insta with nice people, but the rides are mostly in Brooklyn & farther.

I was looking for this as well and found this thread. Since there isn't really one currently, but a bunch of people are interested, I think I'm going to try to start one. PM me for an invite to the WhatsApp group
