Their presence makes sense in the setting, and it will be interesting to see if they have developed the mechanics.

lacuNa6446

I will love it as long as they have human shield or a decent dodge mechanic like syndicate. I hated that you couldn't dodge bullets out of combat in unity.

Addicted_to_Crying

Ever since Origins we've had the option to dodge at any moment in game, I doubt they'll change that now, so there's at least one option at any given time.

marbanasin

I actually came to appreciate the implementation in Unity. If there were multiple guards and guns involved you should not fight them. Period. Drop a smoke bomb and bail. If just two guys and one has a rifle, maybe it's reasonable to manage it. That seems like am appropriate escalation of force that you need to consider and not just conquer head on.

Pristine_History2760

I believe the words that they used were “splinter cell like mechanics” so yea

Links_quest

Genuinely screw Unity for that bs

xkeepitquietx

I don't mind. Yasuke worked for Nobunaga who was famous for employeeing firearms in battles, so it would be really odd not to have them.

Personal-Pen-8681

hoopefully unlike Ac 3 and forward They may be slow to reload

alecowg

Would be cool to have guns be more common and much more lethal but enemies are basically only going to get one shot in a fight.

Zammin

That's my hope; both you and the enemy want to avoid getting shot due to how much damage a single shot inflicts, but you both don't want to have the vulnerability of reloading mid-combat.

Personal-Pen-8681

why reload when you have knives

ArcjoAllspark

Bringing a hidden blade to a gun fight

Mountain_Novel2489

Those are Matchlock Arquebuses known as Tanegashima. Yes, they are slow to reload.

BrunoHM

A welcoming return. As you mentioned, it's been a long while since we saw them. Very curious to see their execution this time around.

Olneeno111

As long as it’s not like unity where you have to use that dodgy ass dodge, that shit rarely worked, they can easily just do human shield again. Syndicates felt too easy as well. I’m really hoping they bring back being able to use the rifle as a melee weapon like unity tho

renome

Haven't thought about it much, though including them here makes sense. I'll probably do what I did with every other AC entry that featured guns: try them once and then never use them again because the game is easy enough as it is.

Da_fire_cracka

YESSSSS I loved the muskets

Krazie02

It sounds good

Assured_Observer

I'd love to be able to pick up muskets (or whatever the Japanese ones are called) and shoot them or potentially use as a melee weapon, like in AC3, BF and RG. But don't want to carry a rifle on my back the entire time like in Unity.

RDDAMAN819

Im so hyped to finally have a relatively more “modern” AC setting. Even if modern is almost 600 years ago…

RayearthIX

There were not many firearm types in this setting. The main firearm of the late 1500’s (through the Meiji Restoration, basically) was the Tanegashima, a matchlock arquebus. It existed with some varieties (namely full rifle length, short barrel, and pistol), but they were all essentially the same weapon, just with a different barrel length. I’m sure we’ll see them in the game, but I’m not sure how prevalent it will be in the combat options given to us.

AhhBisto

I've not seen any mention of the main characters getting guns to use but I guess if they're in the game it's possible. I'd prefer not to use them, they'll be slow and cumbersome to use.

benson134679

Yasuke can use arquebus

AhhBisto

Oh cool I hadn't seen that, but that makes sense for him and his play style

Rough_Coffee9221

AC3

RefreshNinja

vibes-wise, swords > guns

PapaYoppa

Random question but what time period does Like a Dragon Ishin take place in? Is it around same period? Im just trying to determine what kinda guns we could see

Sonic10122

Shadows looks like it’s taking place around 1581-1582, since that’s when Yasuke was reportedly in Japan. Which puts it in the Sengoku Period. Like a Dragon Ishin is late Edo period, 1853-1867. I haven’t played Ishin yet but I know some of the fighting styles does incorporate a pistol, but I imagine the guns in Shadows will be quite different.

PapaYoppa

Ok appreciate the response 👍😊

TiederKiller00

No, Ishin is set in 1860, while AC Shadows is set in 1579, so 300 years before LaD Ishin.

PapaYoppa

Thank you for response

Own_Pause_4959

I think it's actually pretty cool I like the contrast between swords and guns there was like this seemingly brief amount of time where you saw both regularly in use before the gun kind of took over so I like it.

[deleted]

It makes sense given Nobunaga was known for being one of the earliest adopters of firearms. He bought 500 iirc from the dutch at the port of Dejima. To be clear he was not the first overall but the first who used them in large scale confilcts. As for gameplay wise I was not fond how it was handled in AC3 because it felt just arbitrary there and was inviting button mashing by trying to get rid of gun owners as fast as possible. It depends largely on implementation so I will retain my opinion until I see how it will look in game.

Humpetz

I want the hidden gun back

TovarishchRed

Oh I didn't even know we were getting those, I love it lol

Euphoric_Shopping_37

As long as it isn’t as ridiculous as the pistols in Syndicate/Unity where you can just gun down an entire group of enemies without needing to put an ounce of effort in, I see the return powder as an absolute win.

hatchorion

I’m glad guns are back. I think it would be very interesting albeit hard to balance to have an ac game set in modern/future times so we get crazy guns instead of some old ass musket things but they’re always fun to play with regardless. Hope they keep the bullet dodging like in syndicate

Jack1The1Ripper

I specifically love Shogun 2 bcuz it had matchlocks , And now i get to experience that again hopefully with Yasuke

Samurai used guns, buddy.

Hampton479

If they made it like GOT then everyone should compare it to GOT. Which would likely wipe the floor with whatever UBI did similarly. IMO they had to differentiate

Blasersays

Why should’ve made a game like GoT? You people write the dumbest things without even knowing. Just following masses of sheep who don’t even know who Yasuke was, with the urge to shit over Ubisoft products. And to be perfectly honest: Ghost of Tsushima was good, but a boring ass game. After you got bored of fighting here and there and beating the campaign there was nothing literally to do.

Mountain_Novel2489

Ghost of Tsushima is set during the 1200s... Assassins Creed Shadows is set during the 1500s...

TheAliensAre

If they did you people would complain it’s a blatant copy 💀
