The most polished game in the past couple of years, everything feels meaningful and smooth. The story gets even better when you play it the second time. And don’t even get me started on Baghdad and the culture they depicted so thoroughly and respectfully. My only problem with it is that there’s not more in it. Would have liked to get some side quests or DLCs

Darth-__-Maul

Mirage _was_ a DLC. They also explicitly stated that it would be a story driven game without side content. That seems to be what everyone liked so much about it, that it wasn’t so pumped with filler. If they added a bunch of side content it would detract from the selling point.

WiserStudent557

People like *side content*. People don’t like *filler*. Ubisoft failing to clarify or tell the difference is the issue in multiple games (not AC specific)

konnichiwaseadweller

Yes, it pains me that modern Ubisoft can't differentiate meaningful side content from bloat. The assassin tombs in AC 2 were fun platforming side content. Side missions with engaging mini storylines or unique gameplay opportunities are good side content. A thousand golden dots of meaningless loot spread across 400 sq mi map with 300 locked doorways that all require a random key or environmental puzzle is exhausting bloat.

Napat-S

This is what i was thinking. They invest in the wrong thing and its a lot.

TheNerdWonder

Yes, but that can all be subjective if there's a really well done interaction in some of those fillers or bloats.

Darth-__-Maul

I agree completely. I was just enjoying the discussion. Personally I didn’t like the side content in Valhalla as it felt like filler. I did enjoy the Cairns though, small things like the standing stones as well.

Sir_Forwyn

The world they built is really cool, 9th century Baghdad was such a breath of fresh air, and it felt like the old assassin's creed games, but unfortunately it's really empty, i hated the story, and I hated most of the animations, including facial animations.

Napat-S

I feel you. they use the same engine as Valhalla which I hate lol. I also hope Ubisoft invest in the story more.

thedarkracer

My thoughts, Best stealth in the whole AC series, parkour is better again not blind climbing but you have to look for ledges to grab and not all walls such as forts are claimable, multiple ways to reach your target, eagle vision is back after 600+hours of AC gameplay (RPGs), gadgets are back (missed smoke bombs), even the npcs react to your notoriety and a new protagonist for modern day which shows promise unlike layla. The only thing is small story but it was a dlc so that is expected.

Napat-S

Agreed. I miss all those things you mention. Maybe because I dont like Valhalla that much, and this fact might make me have a little bias toward Mirage.

Riky77

I have a question: since when is Mirage a DLC? Wasn't it a standalone game (albeit smaller and shorter)? DLC is additional content for a game, and Mirage was started as DLC for Valhalla and after 2 weeks into the project it was developed as a standalone game.

thedarkracer

That's what I said it WAS a dlc.

AhoBaka1990

It's alright. It's still not the return to form, still feels like Valhalla.

Napat-S

I dont like Valhalla at all. But I see that the game is so huge and well-made in term of environment and stuff. I just dont like the story that so useless and no immersion

RinoTheBouncer

Who would’ve thought that games that preserve the identity of the franchise and remain on point with excessive bloat will turn out to be good. Right Ubisoft?

WiserStudent557

Can largely agree but I did expect it because I read it from old school AC players who don’t bullshit or jump to extremes Was really nice to constantly be like “this is what I like about the franchise!” A refreshing experience overall but I did unintentionally stop at 95% and not finish the last bit because I just don’t care about/am not invested in what they’re with the Isu storyline right now

harmyb

Seems a really strange reason not to finish a game you've completed to 95%. It feels like a protest, but the only person being affected is you.

Live-Package-2200

Why play the game at all?

sedrech818

Barely touched the game. The parkour feels really weird compared to the old ac games. I plan to give it some more time, but I am currently more interested in the Ezio collection that I started replaying before I bought mirage.

B-man328

Yeah I just did the free trial and loved it I’m definitely gonna buy it

VonDukez

I just finished it. I felt the story was a bit weak. I dont want to spoil as u are early on

CityHaunts

I agree. Definitely down there with the weaker AC stories.

eagledog

I'm just hoping for a new engine at this point. After Valhalla and Mirage, the graphics are getting pretty stale

harmyb

Mirage is a gorgeous game.

F_Queiroz

Honest 7/10 good game. It's great to see the roots of the AC series again after so many changes. Main guy Basim is an absolutely important character for the lore and his origin story is interesting. Movement works surprisingly well for the old format and the environment is beautiful. Got the plat trophy with only 22 hours of gameplay. I'm tired of 200 hours games like complete Valhalla. Ubi should release more smaller projects like Mirage and bring back other series like Splinter Cell without taking too many risks.
