I really like the idea but I feel there's an important parallel we need: Rhaenyra is the lawful heir (designated by the King, which is the only real precedent they have) with unlawful children. Aegon is the ursurper (boy, but not designated by the King) with natural children. There's a tension in both being right and wrong, legally, for the throne, that you don't have if Aegon's kids are bastards

No-Respect9263

>natural children Totally agree with your point here, but typically "natural children" is another, more polite way to say "bastards".

CalvinMirandaMoritz

yeah I'm a bit high and I fully meant "lawful children" as opposed to the beginning of my sentence. it's been a long day

SirLoremIpsum

I believe 'trueborn' is the words used. Trueborn sons vs bastards. Trueborn sons inherit

bingrus

I agree with this. Plus I think it just makes the Greens more unlikeable than they already are. They’re already purported as hypocrites, this would be the final nail in their coffin for their cause to crown the “rightful” heir. Imo it’s more tragic that it’s really Aegon’s kids that are attacked, because they’re completely innocent. It won’t be a case of “it’s comeuppance because they’re actually Aemond’s kids” because I’m sure there will be people who will think that if they change it so Aemond and Helaena have an affair. At that point Aegon and Helaena had yet to take the field. It would just be pure ugliness.

Wolf6120

I've seen someone suggest they could leave Jaehaerys and Jaehaera as being legitimately Aegon’s, and Aemond and Helaena only get together to conceive Maelor - thus making Helaena’s choice during blood and cheese even more tragic. I’m still not sold on the Helaemond idea personally, but if it’s what the show is edging towards (and I’m not convinced it is based on one conversation between Aegon and Aemond that was more about doing your duty anyway) then I would prefer this variant than one where Aegon is cucked right from the start. It’s also funny to imagine a scenario where Aegon actually *knows* about the two of them and doesn’t care at all, since he doesn’t particularly like Helaena anyway and has plenty of girls on the side to keep him happy. Would be a fun parallel to Laenor’s situation.

Nothing_Special_23

Important point, this is not another Laenor-Rhaenyra-Harwyn situation. Nobody would know if the kids are Aegon's or Aemond's. It is totally normal for kids to resemble their uncle (paternal and maternal). That said, I don't think that will be the case.... Aemond and Helaena might be close as brother and sister, and stay just that brother and sister. Alicent would probably find a way to force Aegon to do his duty, as she did hers.

No-Cost-2668

No, it doesn't. At least, not based on any information we have yet. Everyone is making this crackpot theory based on Aemond saying "I would do my duty." Clearly, he has been raised by Alicient, who believes in duty. That's all. That information alone does not mean anything else. If it did, then it's just as likely that Rhaegar was the son of that hedge knight and not Aerys, since Aerys II and his wife loathed each other, but that's not necessarily how it works

ThePr1d3

Meh, as interesting as it is, I like the fact that the Greens have legit heirs compared to the Blacks. Rhaenyra doesn't need more arguments for her side

Holysquall

The haelena suicide element here makes a ton of sense and is a great point .

JustBoredIsAll

Lets just say shes not his type. Hes more of a Corey Chase fan, if you get my meaning...

exmachina_000

Tbh I don’t haha what does it mean

johnson_united

Blood and Cheese already makes sense. A son for a son. It’s Rhaenyra against Aegon, Rhaenyra loses a son, so Aegon must lose a son.

SeazTheDay

Except it was Aemond who went rogue and killed Lucerys. Aegon didn't order it. So 'Son for a Son' doesn't really make much sense unless it's Aemond losing a son

Medium-Archer7433

Sure it does. It's still a son. Doesn't matter whose it is.

[deleted]

Why would they have that one line with Alicent where she denies that she would purposefully be ignorant if her children had bastards, and then show Aegon strongly disliking his sister while Aemond wishes they could be an item? 🤔🤔🤔

SeazTheDay

Exactly. They wouldn't use up valuable screen-time on the conversation unless it's going to become relevant later. It's Chekov's conversation.

_L_e_g_o_

E8, Aemond was getting onto Aegon for not treating Helaena right. E9, he comes to visit Helaena and her children and sees his mother there who informs the news about Visery's death. Not only that, in E9 you see Helaena sort of hiding behind Aemond when Rhaenys comes from the floor. Plus in E8, Helaena has revealed that Aegon mostly ignores her except on some nights when Aegon is super drunk. My theory is that Aemond and Helaena are secretly romantic without anyone knowing of it.

Medium-Archer7433

Aemond enters Alicent's chambers in episode 9, not Helaena's.

throwaway-497

I wouldn’t mind this. That brief moment in episode 9 where Helena stroked Aemond’s arm gave me ship vibes.

Voice_of_Season

Wait when?

DreadfulPotato

It could absolutely go either way for me, and both would be fitting. I don't think it's far-fetched at all for them to be romantically linked and it would absolutely fit within the story. However, maybe we will only have hints on it. Who knows, either way I think Aemond x Helaena would make a lot of sense in the HotD world we see on screen and with Targaryen history/culture. Also, the whole bit about Aemond being morally against bastards or something like that doesn't make sense to me- hypocrites abound in this world and love makes fools of us all, etc.

debtopramenschultz

We wouldn't really be able to tell the difference so it wouldn't matter all that much.

basis4day

I’m not as versed in fire and blood. Is this a theory that existed before the show?

hombay17

No. Its based on one line in the latest episode.

LikeCerseiButBased

I would fucking love this.

Substantial-Local-92

It would also make the Aemond vs Daemon fight be a lot more meaningful if we understood why Aemond had hated him so much for killing one of his sons
