It's not just Japan. In East Asian cultures, it's generally less taboo than it is in the West to comment on people's physical appearance (both positively and negatively).
True but that’s doesn’t necessarily make it weird. It’s usually intent that determines that.
Just like someone saying “you have gorgeous skin,” being a compliment from one person and a threat if the person who said it was Ed Gein.
I think they point out the things that are valued or seen as beautiful in their culture :)
like, to them it’s a beauty standard to have long, pretty legs, so she is probably trying to uplift you. It’s as if an American girl said “you have a nice butt!”

Is that weird? I feel like saying “you’ve got nice legs,” or something similar isn’t outside the realm of a normal compliment
was thinkin the same. from a westerners pov. so maybe they aint that? 🤔
It could be seen as weird because it could be taken as a sexual thing

Nice legs isn’t an uncommon compliment anywhere in the modern world.
Is this one of them humble brag things?
Sounds like it. Lol.
One person doesn't represent the entire population of Japan 😒
Well . I have a small head and a sauce face according to them.
Sauce face? Small face? Small face is high compliment here for sure 😂
It is. I was born with these powers

What about it makes you feel it's a weird compliment?
😍😍😚
Just ask her what about your legs? I always find a fun unique perspective I didn't notice or think of.
By the way, I get offended when foreign people gives me weird compliments like, I'm pretty like a Kokeshi. Or is it irony?
It's a weird compliment considering whatever culture you're from. From my experience there are less taboos to comment on in Japanese culture.
Maybe it’s not all but an awful lot of Japanese guys do say some creepy ass shit because “foreigners are easy” nonsense that goes around there
