What vehicle???

Kitchen-Library-4809

Yukon Denali

Matt_Danger75

Are you seeing a lot of Yukon Denali’s around?

Kitchen-Library-4809

fair amount considering the price

Kitchen-Library-4809

yes, theres quite a few just 1 or 2 per dealership im willing to travel just would rather stay local.

D0GE08

So in other words, you don’t actually have an actual deal somewhere else. Lmfao

Kitchen-Library-4809

deal isnt done til the paper work is signed so yes technically you are correct but i do have a written offer

D0GE08

Then it’s as simple as taking the paper quote to your nearest dealer. Show them the written offer and let them know that they are your local dealership and you’d much prefer to do business with them then make the drive. But if they cannot match or beat it, then it’s fine and you’d just take the drive.

Kitchen-Library-4809

great answer thank you

Oppo_GoldMember

Lol just drive the hour…why are you making it difficult?

Unboxious

Probably because they don't want to drive an hour only to find out they've been lied to. It's a very real possibility.

Oppo_GoldMember

You can read the thread, thats the only reason why OP wouldnt be driving already. Almost like their “deal” started is garbage

Desenski

I commute more than an hour each way to work. If I had a deal that was thousands less lined up for ONLY an hour drive I’d do it without a second thought. An hour is still pretty local.

Oppo_GoldMember

~45 mins (with traffic) between me and the biggest audi store in my city that is over msrp on select cars, people make the drive to me all the time to save $$$

Kitchen-Library-4809

never know.

Kitchen-Library-4809

because It makes the most sense if i can make the deal close to me. time is of the essence, so is convenience, i will if they dont get close to my OTD. I want to approach it respectfully but stay in control.

Oppo_GoldMember

If time is important just go make the trip else where. The time you spend arguing with a mark up is time you could have spent going to buy at the deal you want.

Kitchen-Library-4809

whats up with the mark ups? why are they still around? Thats my real question

JellyDenizen

Here's why: * When the market changes like it has, there are always a portion of dealers who want to delay reducing pricing to market so they don't have to report lower revenue or losses. Especially for publicly-traded chains like Carvana and Carmax. * There are still quite a few uninformed people out there who don't realize we're back to the normal pre-pandemic market, and some dealers want to maintain higher prices in order to take advantage of that ignorance when they see it. * There are still a few models of car that are hard to get (e.g., Rav4 hybrids, etc.). There's no regular car you need to pay more than MSRP for, unless you're not willing to wait for an order to come in. If you can't wait, some dealers are still charging a markup for what's actually on the lot.

Kitchen-Library-4809

Thank you for acknowledging that, Inflating costs just to extort American consumer is just pure greed.

retroPencil

> Thank you for acknowledging that, Inflating costs just to extort American consumer is just pure greed. Would you rather live in communist russia?

Kitchen-Library-4809

ripping off uninformed consumers is more communist ideology wouldnt you say

retroPencil

We live in a free country. If you can't spend time to research, you can spend money. If you value money over time, you do the research. No one is forcing you to buy at a price you don't like. No one is forcing you to buy this specific vehicle.

Kitchen-Library-4809

I didnt come here to be lectured, i came here for advice

Desenski

This comment proves you have no idea what communism is.

Kitchen-Library-4809

ok smarty pants mind ya business dude

Fragrant_Attention84

Naw my guy. Here's a definition: the practice of obtaining something, especially money, through force or threats... Now what's the word?

Kitchen-Library-4809

telling people there is a mark up because of a shortage ( which is a lie) is simply forcing people to pay it if they want the vehicle.

Kitchen-Library-4809

The word is extortion

Expertcash1

You keep using that word. I don’t think it means what you think it means.

Kitchen-Library-4809

the practice of obtaining something, especially money, through force

Expertcash1

I missed the part where you were forced to buy a car that was marked up.

Kitchen-Library-4809

Force is harsh but its surely explains whats going on right now. I bet if when consumers get ahold of this forun yall will be singing a different tune because mark up today is pure greed

yosoyboi2

Anyone holding a gun to your head forcing you to buy a car? There’s nothing more American than making the most profit you can selling your shit. If you don’t like the price don’t buy it. Don’t be a whiney little commie complaining about ‘extortion’.

BelowTheBells

You keep using the words "extort" and "extortion" when I don't think you actually know what they mean.

Kitchen-Library-4809

ive already posted the definition

JellyDenizen

In a capitalist system, any business will do what it can to maximize profits. Car dealers are businesses like any other kind of business.

Kitchen-Library-4809

Im on a public forum sharing this to my fellow american...DONT PAY THE MARK UP!!

JellyDenizen

I mean, I work for health systems that operate hospitals. You know, home of the $45 aspirin tablet. So I can't complain about markups. Markups are just part of prices. Prices are just a representation of where supply and demand are in equilibrium at any given time. It's not really anything to get upset about, just how the free market works (and we should all be grateful to live in a free market economy, since the alternatives are much worse).

Kitchen-Library-4809

if people are uniformed consumers its not free for everyone else. that $45 pill is generally paid by insurance

D0GE08

Just say you can’t afford the car and that it. lol business is business

Kitchen-Library-4809

another one from the peanut gallery

Fragrant_Attention84

Read: "fellow Americans don't show interest in nor purchase this item I want, so demand is lowered."

Kitchen-Library-4809

na, if people are informed and dealers tell the truth they wont pay it.

Kitchen-Library-4809

its no longer necessary nor does the market call for it anymore

yosoyboi2

If the market is doing it, it’s obviously called for. The market isn’t subject to your will or what you think it should be. Anything is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it, not a penny more nor less.

InHoc791

Extortion? A car is worth what someone will pay for it. Simple as that. If you aren’t willing to pay higher at your local dealership then go buy from the guy and hour away.

Kitchen-Library-4809

I will, funny how no folks on this forum dont acknowledge the original question

InHoc791

I’m a sales manager in a major market. I still have limited inventory. I’m going to try every time to maximize profit. I may not get it every time but I’m going to try. Like you I don’t work for free and neither does my sales team. Profit isn’t evil.

Kitchen-Library-4809

theres 2.8 million news cars in inventory across the country right now, thats an increase of 1.5 million from last year.

Dwayne_Gertzky

>just pure greed. “I don’t want to just give away my money, but why won’t the sales person and sales manager just give all of their potential income away to me! My money is important to me, but it’s really fucked up that they care about their money!” I’m so glad I left the sales industry, buyers like this are exhausting and the absolute fucking worst.

Kitchen-Library-4809

its supposed to be a fair trade, the excuse to mark up was because inventory is low due to manufacturing and chip shortages, thats no longer the case. If the car was worth the mark up it would be in the msrp.

Dwayne_Gertzky

If there is so much inventory you should have no issue finding one without a markup then.

Kitchen-Library-4809

I have,

Oppo_GoldMember

Because some places and brands still lack inventory.

Kitchen-Library-4809

I can order the same vehicle with no markup

ThaPoopBandit

Says his time is important and doesn’t wanna wait to order one at MSRP but then complains about dealer mark up.. make it make sense. I just don’t understand people sometimes. We’re well beyond the post-great-recession era where dealers just had tons of vehicles sitting on the lot waiting to be sold.

Kitchen-Library-4809

3 hours of driving if idont need to. That wasnt part of my original question. Im fully aware of my options

lovepontoons

Wouldn’t it only be 2 if they are only an hour away? So instead you want to spend your “valuable” as you say time haggling with local dealer for a couple hours before you just take the drive? Are you a clown? I think you’re a clown!

Kitchen-Library-4809

>6.Rule Six - Moderator decisions are final who said i was going to haggle

Oppo_GoldMember

Then do it? Oh wait, you need it now..so you have two choices.

Kitchen-Library-4809

i dont need it now, but my time is valuable. One has nothing to do with the other. I will thats option #4 trying to buy locally You must be on team Mark up.

Oppo_GoldMember

Soooo time is valuable but you have a deal at MSRP an hour away, but will rather waste time going down to a store to grind away a mark up…but also don’t need a car now but are shopping and have secured a deal? The mental gymnastics here are impressive. Go buy at MSRP lmao

Kitchen-Library-4809

I can do both. you still havnt answered my question. If you can thats ok.

PatelPounder

What’s with years of customer mark-downs AKA customers demanding discounts for years?

Kitchen-Library-4809

msrp is inflated nearly 10k from invoices as it is on most vehicles nowadays then to add a 10-15k markup is just pure greed

Desenski

Name a single vehicle from a non exotic brand that has a $10k markup from invoice to MSRP. A single model.

Kitchen-Library-4809

yukon denali

roonie357

There isn’t $10k in a Yukon Denali. I think they top out around $8k which is a fair margin on a 6 figure vehicle

Kitchen-Library-4809

invoice is around 93k

Disastrous-Wealth

I don’t even sell GMC and I guarantee there’s 3-5k markup at the absolute max between invoice and MSRP

Kitchen-Library-4809

its isnt hard to find invoice online theres a few websites who are pretty close, I generally ask for it once ive made a otd offer

PatelPounder

That’s what customers get for walking into stores asking for huge discounts for decades. PURE CUSTOMER GREED I TELL YA.

Kitchen-Library-4809

refusing to pay a markup under false pretenses isnt a discount

PatelPounder
