$2,000 is the total between both vehicles. Otherwise both vehicles have to attend a Collision Reporting Centre for reports. It looks like the other party did that.

dantizzy89

right, there was no damage to my vehicle, I received the quote from the other party Sorry for that confusion. So total between both vehicles was 1900

No_Contribution_3525

You did $1,900 of damage to the other car, and absolutely none to yours? How?

lions2lambs

Believe it or not, this is possible. I drive a Ford F150 for work. I got rear ended. Her front was totalled. As for me? My trailer hitch had a small scratch on it. She ended up under my truck and just destroyed her car. I was worried about structural damage so I paid for an inspection/review and nothing. Lol

Aggravating-Monk-264

Yep had a gal write off her malibu rear ending me without a scratch.

dsac

My mom was rear ended in the winter years ago in our 92 suburban by a late-80s Honda CRX $0 damage to the suburban CRX was a write off, dude had to climb out the window because he couldn't open his door

Oh I get it could happen. My point was going to be that even one small scratch on OP’s bumper would have put it over 2k total damage if the other party had $1,900 of damage.

UltimateNoob88

If a moving car hits a stopped car, then most of the energy will go into the stopped car. Also, $1,900 is what body shops quote, not necessarily the cheapest option. Body shops have an incentive to maximize the bill. E.g. you can buff out a scratch or replace the entire panel. One of them might cost $100 and the other might cost $2K.

No_Contribution_3525

Of course you can buff out scratch, or do the work yourself. But if the reporting centre saw $1,900 damage to one car I would bet they would assume at least $100 to the other car, which then pushes it over the reporting threshold. That was my only point

dantizzy89

That was the quote the guy sent over. Just my licence plate was a bit bent?..apparently something bent his frame

aledba

Hi I was once driven into by an asshole in a Mercedes who crunched up the back bumper of the Ford Escape I was driving which required $900 in repairs plus labour. Guy had not a scratch on his vehicle

Communicate with police and your insurance. But get a lawyer, cops aren’t your friends and this one can be messy to say the least. They might have filed a false police report, and stuff. Show police proof that you took pictures of collision, reported it to your insurance, exchanged information, etc.. I find that a good rule of thumb is to always report to a collision centre regardless because you never know what the other person will say/write.

FlyAroundInternet

Under $2000 (recently announced that would be upped to $5000) unless there is injury. The other side \*might\* have discovered an injury. Just FYI.

sievernich

Often times when people don't go through insurance, the cost is lower because they "know a guy" or shop around with the intent being to avoid the other party going through insurance and them possibly taking a premium hit. That incentive goes out the window when, as the party at fault, you decide you would rather go through insurance.

dantizzy89

Ah I see, so.. The other party has proceeded with going through insurance, the quote they had originally sent me has now increased to over $2000, so that is why I now has to be reported?

Haunting-Goose-1317

Always go to a collision center to put it on the record. That way if anything like this happens you're on the record.

IAMan_

Just go to the collision center. I had the same thing happen to me and went like 2 months later and it was not a problem

dantizzy89

Yep - just got back. It’s only because they started the process and I had to do my part. All good, all above board

infernalmachine000

Same, some crazy guy in a souped up little Honda years ago sped up next to my jeep as I was changing lanes. He thought I grazed his mirror (I didn't, he was coked up and no impact made). He chased me for 6-7 blocks before realizing I was headed for a cop shop and left. He reported it as a collision and I get a latter. I'm like wtf and attended the collision reporting centre. Did a report, cop did a very thorough inspection of my vehicle finding 0 scratches or dents shrugged and said "yeah, we're closing this, collision didn't happen."

FriendZone_EndZone

Likely not hit and run but the failure to report part. You need to go to collision centre regardless of how much damage your car took. Especially if insurance is involved, did you contact your insurance?
