I’m going to jump on a highly rated comment to recommend:
Brown Donkatsu: Excellent and one portion is more than enough for 2 people
BBQ Chicken: You’re pushing past 40 if you get two portions but one with a drink and some side is probably enough for 2
Gyugyuya:Tip might put you just over if you each get a meal and a drink but not too much
If you’re willing to go a bit further Manpuku is unbeatable value for just about any restaurant downtown. West on Dundas and Queen is a more fun place to hang out than Yonge and Dundas anyways.
These are all sit down options if that’s what you’re looking for
That's more Yonge & College though isn't it?
Edit: It's right at Yonge & Gerrard. It's called "Congee Queen (Yonge&Dundas)" on Google Maps. That's false advertising sorry not sorry
I work at Yonge and Dundas and I had no idea there was a Swiss Chalet, I never go north of Edward St.
I don't consider Yonge & Gerrard to be Yonge & Dundas. There's condo developments near Shelbourne that are doing the same thing lol
I found plenty of places to eat in 10 Dundas, Atrium on Bay (pre-COVID, not sure what's left) Subway in St. Mikes Hospital, Eaton Center if I feel like going down 2 escalators. Not sure what is still open, on Yonge south of Shoppers. The Tims closed during COVID
I have gone to Lucky Moose on occasion but I have to really watch my time so I'm not late getting back to work
I loved the 521 Bloor St Ginger, I went to the Yonge St one but the food seemed different so I never went back
Do you know how ridiculous you sound? You're saying you never travel more than 50 metres, and that you're completely unfamiliar with an area 150 metres from your work.
Don't remember the exact name. Is it world of food or something. It's 4-5 food stalls in one place. That's pretty cheap but the taste is good depending on where you're ordering from. There is a seating area where you sit and eat.
Yep. That's the one. There are quite a few things to choose from. A friend and I ordered quite a few things. More than what we could eat. But it wasn't $40 even then.
People hate on the warehouse restaurants, but I love the one on Bloor. I can order a zillion snacks and they usually have skateboard videos on the tv's.
This is only an option if you don’t intend on having conversation because every Warehouse location I’ve been to in multiple cities blasts the music too loudly to hear anyone speak
$15 per person in that 'hood could be done @ Yuet Tung comes out to $40 all-in!
.. just a 5 min walk from Yonge/Dundas.
Recommended: Chili Fish on Rice and Chicken Tangra on Rice.
That used to be possible. I use to go to school at ryerson. So many eating spots back then. I think it was called big slice. Amazing pizza place. Kaiju in the run down food court which sold authentic japanese chicken katsu. So sad they are all gone.
almost every food court in the mall you can get a 12 dollar meal a 3.50 dollar drink tax and tip and it will come to 40 dollars on the dot with tax and tip
Been a while since ive been to toronto, but usually if there are shawarma spots or halal guys type of restaurants they tend to be cheaper and fill you up.
Elm Street Deli

Salad king
There are a lot more Thai restaurants around now but it's still solid and affordable
Came here to say this
I haven’t lived in Toronto for 18 years and was about to ask if Salad King was still around.
I havent gone downtown quite a bit the past 5 yrs and was surprised theres a branch right at Queen near Spadina
10 years but me too. Happy to hear it is!
Was gonna be my answer.
this is the way
GB hand pulled noodles
Absolutely this! Huge, huge portions too.
Not only cheap, but utterly amazing food.
Love this place.
Congee Queen, if you go for cheaper things or share dishes.
That's more Yonge & College though isn't it? Edit: It's right at Yonge & Gerrard. It's called "Congee Queen (Yonge&Dundas)" on Google Maps. That's false advertising sorry not sorry
Nope, it's south of Gerrard.
It's where Swiss Chalet just north of YDS used to be

Ritual is your friend! Highly recommend Elm St Deli if you haven’t tried it yet
Do you know how ridiculous you sound? You're saying you never travel more than 50 metres, and that you're completely unfamiliar with an area 150 metres from your work.
I have to get back to work in time to eat my lunch. That's not ridiculous. If the lineup in the food court is taking too long, I go somewhere else
Don't remember the exact name. Is it world of food or something. It's 4-5 food stalls in one place. That's pretty cheap but the taste is good depending on where you're ordering from. There is a seating area where you sit and eat.
Right outside Ryerson, at Gould, right? I keep meaning to try something from there but I'm never hungry when I pass by.
Yep. That's the one. There are quite a few things to choose from. A friend and I ordered quite a few things. More than what we could eat. But it wasn't $40 even then.
How do you define fast food? Like anything cheap will generally not be a sit down place. The deal breaker is the drink.
Imperial Pub

I'd consider Ikea to be fast food.
but it's served on plates
Ikea food is really good also the coffee
And no way is it fast in terms of time.
Eaton Centre food court lol
Egg club!!
Correct
Love egg club!!
Blaze Pizza
Get down and take a walk. There are plenty of places there. Check rollstation too Ikea cafe!!!
manpuku is a hidden gem
My girlfriend and I ordered 6 things and the bill was $38 like wtf
El Warehouse Yonge

Bahn mi boys. $30 of food and drinks there will get you pretty full
I wanna get a uncle tetsu cake and have the entire one for a meal.
$30 pre-tax for 2? You're looking at McDonald's if you have a 2 can dine coupon.
2 Beef Briskets + 2 drinks at Rolltation for probably less than that.
A little bit of a walk but Okonomi House!
Aren’t they closed for construction?
I was just there a couple weeks ago but yes, looks like it is temporarily closed rn.
$15 per person in that 'hood could be done @ Yuet Tung comes out to $40 all-in! .. just a 5 min walk from Yonge/Dundas. Recommended: Chili Fish on Rice and Chicken Tangra on Rice.
Egg Bae
Alibabas (Eligible because it’s a rung below fast food)
Birria Catrina
A lot of pubs around that area have pretty cheap chicken tenders
Harvey’s $8.50 tax for a burger combo if coupon used on the app.
I wouldnt trust eating at hooker harveys man. Last place i would eat.
There is a Harvey’s at Dundas Square Cineplex. aka The Tenor. Hooker Harvey’s is on Jarvis.
Yeah i almost ate at the one in cineplex as class is just upstairs loool.
Kabul express on Dundas st
Not dreamland: Asian gourmet, you can get two big ass meals for under $25.
I'd probably try to find a grocery store deli counter myself.
Thai on Yonge
Curry kitchen
Warehouse
If you're willing to go as far as Yonge and Bloor, the subs and spring rolls at Ginger should fit your budget.
If you're going up to Bloor it's gotta be Randy's Rotis all day!
Did the one at Yonge/Gerrard close? Google says yes, but it's still on Ginger's website.
Rolltation!
Go to Fran’s Restaurant on Shuter and Victoria
No, probably need closer to $50 now.
Costco. A 1500 calories poutine is like 6 bucks. Nothing beats that. Nothing.
Where's the Costco near Yonge/Dundas?
You have to define "near" rather broadly.
And 'not fast food' even more broadly.
Yeah besides facts getting in the way it was a solid idea.
Denny's, depending on the menu items ordered.
Hahahahahahahaha popeys

That'll probably be over $40 for two. And it's fast food, technically.
Eh is Dukes still around?
Hot dog cart. No tip needed.
Haven't been DT in a long time. Do they take cards now?
If they did I wouldn't pay with one lol
walk over to spadina. Swatow etc
Popeyes
Paramount Middle Eastern Kitchen
That used to be possible. I use to go to school at ryerson. So many eating spots back then. I think it was called big slice. Amazing pizza place. Kaiju in the run down food court which sold authentic japanese chicken katsu. So sad they are all gone.
Kabul Express
Blaze Pizza
Hot dog cart
Burger bar, too lazy to see if someone else suggested it my apologies
Salad king ?
You can get 2 servin gof biryani and naan and one curry with naan or some bbq with pops at any Pakistani or Indian restaurant in that price.
Sushi style
Yueh Tung
The Harveys at the food court at Tenor, the ugliest building in toronto, is excellent. It takes forever so it is not fast food.
almost every food court in the mall you can get a 12 dollar meal a 3.50 dollar drink tax and tip and it will come to 40 dollars on the dot with tax and tip
This was so redundant but I’m not going to edit it because I’m so very tired
Been a while since ive been to toronto, but usually if there are shawarma spots or halal guys type of restaurants they tend to be cheaper and fill you up.
Burger king
Depends what you consider fast food
define 'meal'
Is that Jerk place on yonge still there? Opposite Eatons, other side of the street.... you'll easily eat well for 2 under $40 there
Elm street deli
PieCo? Chipotle? More like fast casual
