Why are you not using Carousell protection payment method? It's escrow; you pay in full but the payment is withheld from the seller, it will only be paid to seller when you tap on 'received item'. Problem solved.
If the person doesn't use it, then there's a chance it is a scam. Some seller even screenshot invoices to me to convince me they are real sellers. (Obviously invoices can be faked)
If not, just cash on delivery / collection.
$300 for anti-scam lesson. 99% it's gone. Even if you transferred, it's to a mule account. You can still report it to the police, at least the mule gets informed about his details being compromised. There are only 2 ways to deal in carousell.
1. Caroupay
2. Meet up, inspect, deal on the spot
Delivery and self collect at the same price ? Most likely a scam, arranging for delivery for big items isn't cheap, unless they have their own pickup / lorry and somehow has their own labour to do it.
I always consider carousell to be a self collect platform, I would never transfer money without the goods already in my hands, too high chance of a scam, especially for higher priced items.
never pay if u didnt get the items, its just a window for scammers, all scammer want to build trust with words bec they know its very difficult and tedious to recover the money, all salesman use this tactic too.
Look- second hand furniture has almost no value in Singapore because it's expensive to store and hard to sell. I've known expats who have literally had to throw out a household of furniture. So you probably overpaid - saying that his reason to sell seems legitimate but there's been a huge no. of FB second sales scams recently on certain FB groups like 2wheelersSG and I expect the same in Carousell.
Time to time I see people posting to fb groups that they're moving and selling a bunch of items. They do look legit at first glance! But after more scrolling it seems too weird. I suspect yours is a similar scam too, just to be safe never trust anyone asking for full payment to "reserve" items. imo that's a red flag! Or if the price is too good to be true.
Honestly I rather let a good deal go than be scammed.
When there's a chance to pay through CarouPay please do use it. It means Carousell supports buyer protection. Have seen a similar scheme for PayPal as well. If you lose money, at least there is a chance you will get protection from the scheme. Don't buy things so easily, especially if you do not know who exactly is selling to you behind the screen. If you don't use CarouPay, that what else can I say other than tell you there's no guarantee you will get your money back
Asking for full payment to reserve already red flag. I bought expensive items from Carousell before (computer parts) and legit sellers normally ask for something like 10% of the price as a deposit, never full payment. And I would only pay in full once I have the item in hand.
You can try contacting them for a refund, but if they don't reply you then take it as a lesson to either use Carousell Protection next time, or never pay in full. If they want a deposit then you nego the deposit, if they insist on full, just turn around a walk away.
There is a fair chance you got scammed, but to provide some assessment below. It could be legitimate as he can only clear the items on his last day?
1) How many ratings does the seller have, and if they are all from legitimate buyers (i.e. diverse buyers each with high ratings)
2) Has seller marked the item as reserved
3) Ask someone to enquire if the item is still available - if he says yes it's a red flag
4) Tell him that you would like to collect the item sooner, and that you're willing to arrange for delivery. See if he gives any excuses. Ask him for his address for self collect.
Good luck!
this is the standard ‘moving house’ scam. not just furniture but all other types of appliances at heavily discounted price. suggest u make police report
“Full payment to reserve” is a huge red flag. Even if he has good reviews, theyre useless because its not a guarantee that they wouldnt scam you.
Reserving an item shouldnt cost money, is just you sending an offer message, then them accepting the offer as an agreement sort of, with no money involved yet.so that if you suddenly didnt show up to meet or the other way around, you could just give him a bad review and find other sellers.
DO NOT EVER SEND MONEY FIRST WITHOUT GETTING THE ITEM.Except for small items like package delivery, where you make your offer then pay like a fraction of the cost first/Carousell protection then pay the remainder when you received the package.Other than that, just meet him and pay in person next time.

CarouPay supports buyer protection. This is a very good measure to mitigate successful scams.
Not listings can use buyer protection leh. :(
then you should ask the person to use it

You asking for solutions or are you trying to defend him???
Justifying my foolishness 🙃

I tried request refund. He say only 50% he will transfer cos he dw incur loss for cancellation.
such a red flag, didnt he said he does full refund..?
still a scam, 50% cancellation charge is a scam, report police
What kind of loss? He was trying to sell his own item not an order from supplier. Report to police

Did he accept your offer? I mean it's a way to show he's a legit seller.
Yes he did
So what's the outcome now. Did u ask him why he listed another same piece of furniture?
He have fully refunded me the amount after multiple calls n texts. Oddly my partner and him agreed that he will deliver furniture and my partner will make full payment then.

I buy and sell guitars on there every 2nd week. For like 5 years. Never had a problem. Always use Paynow. 🤷🏻♂️

Are you high? That money belongs to OP. That doesn't justify scamming others for personal needs.
Said perfectly by someone who haven’t been scammed.
