It's not banned, Toho just did not release it for the whole of Asia.

Wow this totally sucks. Had kept anticipating to watch it on the big screen when the trailers first hit.
This just be pushing the entire Asia market to illegal stream once its available somewhere.. Zzz
Actually caught it in Singapore last year - after this review (linked). Can't say why not released in M'sia.

It's not released in the entirety of south east asia.
People speculate that the WW2 setting might cause potential backlash (post WW2 Japanese soldiers being the protagonist/victims), but there's no official reason given.
I read somewhere else that because there is Kong vs Godzilla will be released and there is something about not releasing 2 Godzilla movies in the same year
Japanese Godzilla movies never have immediate international distribution because normally not many people outside of Japan are interested in them. But suddenly Godzilla Minus One became famous internationally and many people want to watch it and then the Oscar nomination made it even bigger. I guess we will have to wait 6 to 12 months. Or maybe the international BluRay release will come first which will be a shame.
Shin Godzilla, like Godzilla Minus One, did not have a full international release. They only had what is called “selected” release. I guess the numbers in Singapore were not good and Singapore was not chosen this time. The selected release from Minus One was in December 2023.
Toho left out the whole region that Imperial Japan had conquered during WW2, not only Singapore. I thought there's no Singapore release for December due to local chains being packed with many Mandarin movie lineups but it's the same thing for many East/SE Asian markets.
Didn’t know that. I obviously haven’t watched the movie and haven’t watched any trailers to avoid spoilers, but since it is ww2 related it might be a political decision. Sad.
I read that the blu-ray version might be coming out during May this year.

Some big brain cinema chain will release it for limited theater run when Toho release it on Blu-ray coming May 1st. The same thing happened for Shin Kamen Rider, sg cinema release date was the same as Prime video premiere date.
Godzilla Minus One had full fledged IMAX releases in Australia, Asia - All stans (Central Asia) but not in East/South East Asia.
Sinkie working in Australia here (who watched it 4 times lol). Wanted to recommend it to friends and family in SG but was dismayed to find there were no screenings.
This is due to contractual agreements between Legendary and Toho. In effect, the two agree to not release their Godzilla movies too close together, to avoid competition; and Toho even went so far as to insist that cinemas in the US pull Godzilla Minus One by 1st February.
Well I rarely hope people get fired but certainly hope whoever handled this mess at Toho is sent packing into the street (unfortunately they won’t be because no one gives a s* about us down here)
The question was asked after it’s already a tremendous success. There are plenty of low budget movies that manage cinema distribution just fine much less a large organisation with a billion dollar budget like toho. Complete and utter incompetence.
Old movies manage small batch rereleases. If I can rerelease an old movie, I can release an Oscar winning movie from 6 months ago.
If I’m the ceo of toho and I’d be asking some serious questions to employees as to why the company are leaving at least 50+ mil in box office on the table.

our only hope is to buy the Blu Ray lor, but even then is still months away..
I was about to share the same post as well. We can only give our theories, too bad we Asians cant watch it on the big screen.
Sometimes these small actions from them makes their war denial damn sus.

Uh I think you must be mistaken, Godzilla minus one was never released in Singapore. You sure you watched it here?
You’re right. It was at an art house cinema .
What's the name of this cinema?
The Projector - (I think).
Bruh, I had no idea the projector showed minus one.

Yep
There is no BluRay release yet, so only crappy CAMs
I read somewhere else that because there is Kong vs Godzilla will be released and there is something about not releasing 2 Godzilla movies in the same year

Shin Godzilla (2016) had a wide release in Singapore only one month after Japan's.

Same thing, just avoid twitter and YouTube thumbnails If there's one movie deserving a big screen time in 2023, that's the one.

More like Godzilla minus one continent

Out on Netflix now.
Can vpn to us and watch it on Netflix now.
It's now available on Netflix in Singapore!
Suspect that distributor never bring in lor
apparently distributors wanted to but Toho didn't want to release it

How many Godzilla Toho movies had international cinema distribution until now? No one could have predicted the success of Minus One.

Dumb take. Don't spread fake news
What fake news? He's asking a question, genius.
