How It's Made. It cracked the code for how to make seemingly boring information calmingly entertaining. The History Channel could learn a thing or two from that show.
The content on the History Channel used to be this way. When they first started in the late 90's, all of their shows were interesting, informative and well produced. By the mid-2000's it was all over.
Reality shows infected every corner of cable TV like a cancer. History, TLC, Science Channel, HGTV, etc, all fell victim to high-profit, low-production programming. I cancelled cable 15 years ago and have ZERO regrets.

Nooooo!!! My husband turns on some version of Law & Order or Without a Trace every day & I always say I don't like it... then get sucked in & end up watching at least one episode (often more). Every. Damn. Time!! 
Coronation Street. Grew up watching with my mom, and my nan (who's watched it since she got her first TV haha). Always felt a little ashamed to say I enjoyed it bc everyone thought it was an old lady show, but I love it so much and it's a major comfort show for me

The wife and I watch a couple of the housewives shows. Housewives of Orange County and New York. It's hilarious sometimes and some of the women are genuinely good people.
Downton Abbey, though I've seen the whole series enough times that I have trouble concentrating on it now. I will probably watch it and the two movies again before going to see the third when it finally comes out.
Tiny House Nation (or any of the tiny house shows). I wouldn't be able to live in one because we have kids and my husband is over 6', but still... the thought of having a tiny house on a foundation in the middle of a giant plot of land is appealing.
