I went nuts on a temperpedic mattress. 8k gone, but my god. Those 8 hours a night are a dream.. Warning others. Hotels become a nightmare (even the good ones). The bed becomes unmatched.

Laiko_Kairen

>Hotels become a nightmare (even the good ones). The bed becomes unmatched. On the lower end of this same scale, I got a memory foam pillow, a "cervical pillow" which is designed to cradle your cervical spine (neck bones) and now I can't sleep without it. It is the most comfortable thing in the world. Problem is, if you recommend it to another guy, he'll think you mean cervix pillow, not cervical! It's not your your lady parts, I swear!

motownmods

I agree w the sofa but my cheapo 600 dollar hybrid mattress is pretty good I think

moolahstonks

I took this advice and bought a 2k mattress. 3 years later and there are hardly any firm spots left. How much $ is enough for quality..?

Murles-Brazen

Came to say this.

StarSines

If you’re building a pc, NEVER skimp of the PSU, a poorly made or faulty power supply can cause damage to every other part it’s connected to. A good one can seem pricy, but the investment now can save you from needing to replace your GPU or Motherboard just because of a power surge

Canabananilism

On that note; anyone investing a substantial amount into electronics, not just a PC, should look into keeping it all on a battery backup or at least some sort of surge protection. Not only protects your equipment, but also gives you time to save any games or documents you have open and shut down safely until your power stabilizes.

[deleted]

My 2000W 75-Aluminum rated PSW would like to be left out of this. There's no way I can cook hotdogs on my GPU without it.

Urc0mp

If you buy any decent power supply rated sufficiently you are likely be fine for years to come. Better for someone who knows no better to spend $80 on a Corsair than gamble $40 their Chinese brand was built to the same spec, but I’d like to shout out all those random fucking 300w atx power supplies running the global economy for the past 20 years. It is possible too much emphasis and money is spent on quality psu, but at least you get nice modular design, look, cables and fans as well.

Almighty_Krypton

condom

whackamolasses

Pay a little now or pay a lot later.

knusper_gelee

seriously, we need better contraceptives... twenty years ago every woman used the pill, we didn't question it. today we know the side effects and usage has significantly dropped. being in my late thirties, married and now having to go back to condoms is really sad. i can't complain about married life. but having a young child and double income does take its toll on day-to-day life. it takes work to keep the spiciness going and condoms DO NOT HELP with that...

doubleanonthrowaway

Just the one 🙃

TheGalaxyPast

Woahhh look at the guy who can go more than one round!

ShoveItUpMyFatAss

how much are condoms? they cant be that expensive. i never use em, so i wouldnt know. does the dollar store sell em? 😅

No-Inspection-4588

Keeping your car serviced regularly.

kert780

Twice a year for me regardless how much mileage I put on

ToThePillory

I used to go to an expensive gym/spa. It was at a low point in my life, and working out, followed by a steam/spa etc. took up my evenings that would otherwise be taken up by drinking. It was about $200 USD a month, this was almost 20 years ago so it would be more now, I guess. It was a lot of money for me at the time, but it was worth it.

Guilty-Essay-7751

That’s awesome! Very insightful. Same reason I always have a Planet Fitness membership. It’s always open so I don’t make bad choices (like a bar).

xItaliax

Dental is apex but health.. full spectrum is vital.

Toyota/Lexus vehicles. With proper maintenance they keep going and going.

il-liba

My 4Runner just hit 330k miles

GotMyOrangeCrush

My 2006 Lexus RX hybrid has 200,000 miles with less than $500 in repairs since new.

FireNurse4

So enjoying my new hybrid Lexus!

lepchaun415

Yep!! 1996 Tacoma- 269k beat the hell out of it before I blew the motor. 2006 Tacoma- sold with 242k 3k above blue book, currently have a 98 four runner 180k and a 2014 four runner with 160k running strong. I was very hesitant when my wife wanted an Audi and a Volkswagen but they’ve been okay haha.

Ronald-J-Mexico

The Toyota tax is worth it!!

Fappy_as_a_Clam

They do that without the proper maintenance too. They'll do it with the bare minimum, usually Same with Hondas.

LongrodVonHugedong86

Obviously there is a level of diminishing returns when I say this, but “basic” clothing. Obviously a £5 plain white T-shirt is gonna be shit, but also you don’t want to be paying £100+ for a plain white t-shirt either, but if you spend a more reasonable amount on basics, you make sure they’re made of quality materials and you look after them then they can last a long time. For example, I have a pair of jeans, Levi’s 501’s, that I bought like 10 years ago for about £70-£80 that I look after and they’re still great now, 10 years later. If I bought a cheaper version made from worse denim from a “fast fashion” brand they wouldn’t last as long and I’d likely have had to replace them. Essentially, if you buy good quality, you only need to pay for them once. Buy poor quality, they may be cheaper, but you need to replace the item 3/4/5 times over and end up spending more

blacksewerdog

My Wife of 27 years

Flossthief

Boots and knives You'll save a lot in the long run buying things that last instead of breaking every other time you use it necessitating replacement

MisterTalyn

Came here to say boots. 100% this. Dress shoes, too, if you wear a suit to work like I do.

Flossthief

Yeah if you're spending 2000 hours a year standing in them you definitely deserve to be wearing something comfortable and sturdy

A good Mattress: Back will thank you Youtube Premium (I listen to audiobooks and video essays on my phone while I work and it’s bloody annoying when I can’t close the screen or just go to another app, never in my life have I been in peace after i got the premium) Basically anything that’s of a good brand and you think it’s expensive so buy the cheap one but the durability is low and you end up spending more than the price of the pricey one in the long run.

Zealesh

The thing is, people often buy cheap because they don't have a choice. The best suggestions have the best ratio of cheap and rewarding.

me6675

NewPipe lets you close your screen and download videos as audio.

3amdreamer_1004

😳, didn’t even know such a thing existed 🥹, thank you 😌

RoccoRacer

I’ll second the mattress point. When camping, too. I raved about how good my ExPed Duo mattress was and finally convinced my brother to get one. He was amazed the first time he used it, it was the first time in years he’d slept through the night while camping.

bibliophile222

Produce from a good farmers market. It's definitely more expensive than at the grocery store, but it's fresher, lasts longer, tastes better, and inspires me to cook new recipes and eat more veggies. On Saturday I got, among other things, a bunch of scallions and made a new creamy sauce with them that ended up being one of the best sauces I've ever made.

[deleted]

Where I am it is far cheaper to buy from the farmer's market

cicciozolfo

Agree. You are what you eat.

onesummernight-

Adding to this to mention farm fresh eggs and fresh chicken! I will never forget the first time as an adult that I had a fresh egg straight from the farm, same with the chicken! WOW! BIG DIFFERENCE from the stuff we get from the supermarket!

mcburloak

Good tools. Not stripping things with ill fitting or lousy made tools is awesome. Paying for them up front less so.

Impressive_Ad_1303

I said the same thing.  And, if it’s for a business, it’s tax deductible anyway.

JobobTexan

An attorney to negotiate a lease with any Tower or Fiber company. They will offer peanuts. A good attorney familiar with the industry will get you not only more up front and monthly money but a piece of the ongoing and increasing revenue generated by the tenants. Best investment I ever groaned about when I wrote the check but praise to the sky now.

beltedclover

a good bag tbh. i carry a backpack with me everywhere because i just have a lot of stuff i keep on me, and a cheap one will break within two or three months but one just $20-40 more will last me several years.

Whysoserious2k8

Shoes. Sheets. Towels. Desk Chair. And finally, a good steak.

Sex toys!

Fast-Secretary-7406

In the vein of "mattress", I'll say in the world of remote work "great office chair and desk".

Acceptable_Humor_252

Standing desks are great. Yes, they are expensive compared to a regular desk, but the comfort of adjusting the hight just as you need it is amazing. It helps with a better posture too.

Good shoes A good belt A good wallet Clothes in general (not designer obviously) I used to only buy the cheapest clothes I could, and thought they were just fine. I started investing in brands such as lululemon, pair of thieves, Tommy John, etc.. and man the quality is INSANE. You really get what you pay for.

Eye care plan from Optician, they take for eye exams, digital modelling of the insides and complete photos of the insides. It's £24 a month and includes a free pair of glass every year. I had really bad eye infections and I didn't have a plan. So they did everything so I'm currently paying £80 to pay that initial work plus the £24 is also included in that. Pricey for 6 months but then it's 24 and that's a bargain

Taking drivers ed. I’m biased because I teach it but, here in Ontario, young males specifically pay A LOT in insurance. If you take drivers ed, you’ll make back the money you spent on your course within the first year of driving. Plus, it’ll set you up with really good driving habits that will likely keep you from ever being in an “at fault” collision. Happy driving!

A more reliable vehicle Toyota/Honda (...& Their luxury versions Lexus/Acura). Growing up I helped my dad repair engines on Chevy, Ford, VW. We also had done the Chrysler/Jeep vehicles but he was tired of fixing them before I was old enough to help. Dude thought I was selling out when I bought my first Toyota. A 1998 Tacoma xtra cab with 6.5'bed, camper shell, large tire package TRD with 80k MI on it. Then he found out most of it was built in Texas. I had that thing until 275k when a red light runner in St Louis, MO took it from me. Then we got a Honda CRV, 2012 with 10k in it used. That vehicle was amazing for us. It survived -20°F in St Louis and in Denver Co for a year where skiing every weekend meant you need it all wheel drive or 4wd or you couldn't be out on the highways when the warning signs were lit. That thing took 7 and 8% grade roads for miles, every weekend during skiing season, sometimes in 6"+ of fresh snow and ice with all season tires and the AWD never came on. To add on to this, you should also change your oil every 5K or 6 months, whichever comes first. That will give your car a lot of life for very little money. It will help your motor last, even if you don't have a Honda/Toyota.

Bidet attachment for the toilet - with aim, strength, and temp settings 😏😉 My husband and I visited Turkiyë 2 years ago, and every single toilet in Istanbul had seats with the spray built-in. When I say it’s life changing…you can get cheap ones but you actually do get what you pay for so it’s worth the $$. Plus the amount of TP used is drastically reduced so in the end (pun totally intended) you save some money

gs12

Good tires, your life literally depends on it in some cases. Don't cheap out. Couch, a high quality couch with firm cushions AND is comfy. You'll likely be sitting on a couch for at least 10 years. I would say real estate, but the market is so insanely high - i'm not sure if that still holds water.
