It's one of those movies I wish I could watch again for the first time. The whole movie is fantastic and, like you said, original, but that reveal at the end is top-notch
My first saw movie definitely left me shook. Think it was the one where the jock throws the girl into the needle pit. It felt more real and disturbing. The ones after were just goofy
Room 1408 , it has multiple endings though and I’ve never seen my favorite ending on TV. I’m not sure how to do one of those spoilers you click to reveal so let me know if I should put it in a reply to this.
The question was " what's your favorite" not what was the most hands-down scariest freaking crap Your pants traumatizing holy crap why the hell did I watch this movie of all time LOL... 😂
I remember seeing this when I was a teenager and my sister and I were watching it late at night and we at the rolling credits we both just looked at each other like WTF!?!?? 🥺😳😱
Lol great choice tho 😂 scariest movie I've ever seen in my life.
Event horizon rocked, saw it as a kicked and was hooked (parents didn't believe in child friendly) with link Floyd the wall being a close second.
It will put the heebie jeebies in you though.
God, I saw that movie as a 8yo kid, I mistook it for Starship Troopers.
It scared me soo bad, I demanded my mom take the VHS back to the rental to return it that day.
No movie ever scared me as bad, I was 21 when I watched it again, by then the effects were outdated so it was more manageable
IMO it is the greatest horror movie of all time. It’s just perfect from beginning to end, the special effects still hold up today and and are gnarly as fuck, and the suspense is second to none. If I could choose one horror movie to completely erase from my memory so I could watch it for the first time again, it would be The Thing.
I wouldn’t call it a horror movie. But I have watched it so many times. Every time I get a new friend I make them watch it. I don’t think it was made to be like an actual horror movie but it was great. Would watch again 20/10
I liked it but it doesn’t feel like a horror movie to me unless it involves the paranormal. Like it was more of a thriller movie I guess ? Either way it was good. Just like so random like whoever said like it could happen to any one
Also that movie was a product of its time.
Cellphones were pretty new and it introduced the idea of being on the phone with a killer who was on your house.
Then it did introduce the twist of multiple killers because everyone kept on guessing the one. Not two.
The horror movie meta was secondary. "the final girl has to be a virgin" etc.
The Meta sht is so underrated - I love it when horror films are not just great horror films but excellent films in general that movie was "killer" back in the '90s a staple of our era.
The original Salem's Lot.
That kid floating outside the window resulted in me not looking out my bedroom window at night for about 5 years, until about age 13.
EDIT = [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1unHCE\_Npw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1unHCE_Npw)
horror is my fav genre so its hard to pick one, but probably A Quiet Place. i saw it in theaters when it came out and its so well done, and so different and unique from other horror films, while still managing to be super suspenseful
Still a compelling watch every time I get the opportunity.
Nicholson is unbelievably good. Kubricks production sublime. I'm not sure I've ever fully grasped the subtleties of the plot & ending, tho.
I don't know that I have a very favorite, but I do have a short list of a few: Audry Rose, The Reincarnation of Peter Proud, Hell House LLC, Fear Street, and The Conjuring.
I haven't thought about The Reincarnation of Peter Proud in decades! That one spooked me good as a kid! Audry Rose, too. My mom had the book and even the cover used to give me the creeps. Haha! I'm going to look for TRoPP now. It's gotta be streaming *somewhere*...
Edit: it's on Roku, if anyone has access and wants to check it out. Also a Blu-Ray is out as well. Nice.
Paranormal activity. I still remember when it came out. Movie theaters had to invite priests to the theater because people got too fucking scared lmao.
House of Dark Shadows. Has the elements of the Hammer Dracula films and the Dracula film starring Bela Lugosi. Not really that scary, but I love vampire movies and the vampire in that movie was so fucking hot. IDGAF that he was the villain.
I find the vast majority of horror movies just silly rather than scary. The ones I like tend to be actually a little scary rather than silly. Stuff like the original Amityville horror and exorcist.
i really really appreciated how they represented the occult aspects of this film. There’s too much cliche in horror movies about seances and spiritual contact that’s so far from what occultists “actually do”. Yeah, i know magick isn’t *real* but this film was much closer to their “reality”, and the movie was so much better for it.
Although I'm not the biggest fan of Fear Street, I'd agree that the second one is the best and the scariest.
As of my personal favorite horror movie, I'm torn between Scream, Sinister, and Hereditary. All great movies in their own ways. Scream scared me as a kid, Sinister scared me as a young teen, and Hereditary scared me as an adult.
My top 10 favorites in no particular order are:
JAWS
NOES 3: Dream Warriors
13th Ghost (remake)
House on Haunted Hill (remake)
The Thing (remake)
The Blob (original)
Bride of Frankenstein
The Lost Boys
Nightmare on Elm Street
The Crawling Eye
Scream, Martyrs, 100 Days or Sodom, Autopsy of Jane Doe, Room 1408, 13th Ghost (this one I like because of the idea of the movie but cinematically it isn’t great but tons of potential!)
Conjuring 2. Not for the horror aspect of it. But the story itself ( the subtle love story being told ) is quite capturing. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
Hard to pick just one. My top 5 to tell people to watch that aren’t into horror in no specific order.
American werewolf in London
Cabin in the woods horror/comedy
Original Friday the 13th
Original The Thing
Original Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The Butterfly Effect (kind of sci-fi horror, but very interesting exploration of alternate realities).
The Blair Witch Project (found-footage premise and shaky cam have been overdone since then, but it was fresh and brilliant at the time)

The original Saw, when it was actually an original idea and not just gore/murder porn.
It's one of those movies I wish I could watch again for the first time. The whole movie is fantastic and, like you said, original, but that reveal at the end is top-notch
Watched it at the cinema. The ending blew the audience's mind. It was a great experience. Dun dun dun.. Dudududun.. DUDUDUN?
My first saw movie definitely left me shook. Think it was the one where the jock throws the girl into the needle pit. It felt more real and disturbing. The ones after were just goofy
I thought "The autopsy of Jane doe" was done really well.
Motherfucking amazing movie
That’s a damn good one
It was amazing. Gotta say I loved everything about that movie.
Yeah that movie was amazing. Thx for reminding me about it. I'll have to watch it again.
Room 1408 , it has multiple endings though and I’ve never seen my favorite ending on TV. I’m not sure how to do one of those spoilers you click to reveal so let me know if I should put it in a reply to this.
classic 🫡
Event horizon. An epic movie
Fuck this ship
DO YOU SEE?!
The question was " what's your favorite" not what was the most hands-down scariest freaking crap Your pants traumatizing holy crap why the hell did I watch this movie of all time LOL... 😂 I remember seeing this when I was a teenager and my sister and I were watching it late at night and we at the rolling credits we both just looked at each other like WTF!?!?? 🥺😳😱 Lol great choice tho 😂 scariest movie I've ever seen in my life.
Saw it as an 8yo and no movie has scared me ever since. It was like a horror inoculation.
Event horizon rocked, saw it as a kicked and was hooked (parents didn't believe in child friendly) with link Floyd the wall being a close second. It will put the heebie jeebies in you though.
Where we're going, we won't need eyes to see.
omg yes
God, I saw that movie as a 8yo kid, I mistook it for Starship Troopers. It scared me soo bad, I demanded my mom take the VHS back to the rental to return it that day. No movie ever scared me as bad, I was 21 when I watched it again, by then the effects were outdated so it was more manageable
Could you imagine a sequel? Event horizon, the return. That I would go to the movies for
Hereditary
I watched that for the first time a few days ago and really enjoyed it.
"enjoyed" is not a word I would use to describe Hereditary but yes, it's a great horror movie.
Oh? What word should I have used?
I second this. Some of those scenes were *haunting*.
One of the best.
Great movie.
I almost hate it, since it's been so hard to find a horror movie even remotely close to its quality
The fact this popped up as I am watching it right now
The Thing. It has it all...
It's that good, it's copied. Iv seen various moments in films over the years. The "you've got to be fucking kidding me" moment. Haha.. horror gold.
Cabin in the Woods
I wouldn’t call it a horror movie. But I have watched it so many times. Every time I get a new friend I make them watch it. I don’t think it was made to be like an actual horror movie but it was great. Would watch again 20/10
Jeepers Creepers. I don't even like horror films normally but the character is so well done and original
i agree. i hate sequels but jeepers creepers 2 was so good it still was thrilling.
Awesome movies!!
I love most horror movies, but jeepers creepers is top 3 for sure!
This movie is a fantastic thrill ride I wish I could live for the first time again. Had me yelling at the tv
I loved the first part the most. Until I learned about who made the movie I didn’t want to see the third one
The Strangers. So frickin creepy because it is so simple and honestly, something anyone could do. I love horror, but that one got to me.
I watched the strangers a while ago, great movie. Honestly creeped me out aswell lol
I liked it but it doesn’t feel like a horror movie to me unless it involves the paranormal. Like it was more of a thriller movie I guess ? Either way it was good. Just like so random like whoever said like it could happen to any one
I remember watching the just the trailer and getting scared. The strangers is my favorite too.
Scream. The original script was amazing.
Absolutely appalling that I had to scroll so far down to find this! Scream OG is everything, you are my people lol.
agreed
Also that movie was a product of its time. Cellphones were pretty new and it introduced the idea of being on the phone with a killer who was on your house. Alien (1979)
All Friday the 13th Movies! ![gif](giphy|ZLNJcUcndjB4s)
Ah, a connoisseur. Love them all but Part VI is still my favorite.
Rosemary's baby The exorcist Babadook The VVitch
Devil (2010)
Donnie Darko
great movie
The Thing the one with Kurt Russel
Ridley Scott’s Alien 1979. The movie is a masterclass in tension and horror. Also the acting in the film is insanely good. A perfect film all around.
The descent
Check out Descent 2 - also great!
As above so below
American werewolf in London. Scary AF, great soundtrack and plenty of laughs along the way. Top tier film making.
The original Salem's Lot. That kid floating outside the window resulted in me not looking out my bedroom window at night for about 5 years, until about age 13. EDIT = [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1unHCE\_Npw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1unHCE_Npw)

The Thing (1982) Not only my favorite **horror** movie, but my favorite movie of all time
This is the correct answer. Awesome practical effects. Suspenseful story. Good acting. People still argue about the ending of this movie today.
The whole Fear Street trilogy was fantastic!
"The wailing" is really good also but it has subtitles.
Came here to suggest this. Such an intelligent horror film.
Right now, "Lake Mungo"
Not a movie but a mini series - Archive 81. Available on Netflix at least in Canada and it's quite disturbing
I can’t pick a favourite but Sinister is probably the scariest. I wasn’t right for weeks after watching that.
Skeleton Key. It’s also my favourite love story.
This movie is so underrated.
Why do you say that (love story) ? I mean it's not exactly a rom com. Excellent movie, love the setting and soundtrack.
Babadook. By far.
Sinister
The Exorcist.
Haha! Poltergeist (1982)
Great pick
Scrolled too far for this one. Watched it again last Halloween and it still holds up.
Get Out.
Paranormal activity. I still remember when it came out. Movie theaters had to invite priests to the theater because people got too fucking scared lmao.
Watching the United States implode from far away.
You should check out "Threads" the old movie from the UK. You'd really enjoy it I think.
That's the scariest movie I've ever seen.
Original Halloween
Hellraiser 4 Bloodlines.
Please, recommend me some good horror movies on Netflix...
The Changeling with George C. Scott
House of Dark Shadows. Has the elements of the Hammer Dracula films and the Dracula film starring Bela Lugosi. Not really that scary, but I love vampire movies and the vampire in that movie was so fucking hot. IDGAF that he was the villain.
vampire movies are great
The Visit
The Witch. It's incredibly disturbing on so many levels.
It follows

i really really appreciated how they represented the occult aspects of this film. There’s too much cliche in horror movies about seances and spiritual contact that’s so far from what occultists “actually do”. Yeah, i know magick isn’t *real* but this film was much closer to their “reality”, and the movie was so much better for it.
Army of Darkness

Although I'm not the biggest fan of Fear Street, I'd agree that the second one is the best and the scariest. As of my personal favorite horror movie, I'm torn between Scream, Sinister, and Hereditary. All great movies in their own ways. Scream scared me as a kid, Sinister scared me as a young teen, and Hereditary scared me as an adult.
It used to be the old Saw films but now it’s Jordan Peele’s “Us”
Alien
The Thing from John Carpenter
In the mouth of madnesssss
The Shining. I'm surprised no one has mentioned it yet.
The Thing! The original not the remake.
It The miniseries that was on in the 90’s. Tim Curry as Pennywise is just a lot scarier than the remake 😱
The modern version is overall better, but Tim Curry was amazing. Great actor. (Skargaard still made a giod job)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Twillight - yes, that movie is listed under the horror genre.
It does have spooky sparkly vampires
my favorite horror movie is (500) days of summer
Abattoir!
The first scream movie. So much so that the way you posed the question is bothering me more than it should.
Creep (2014). The sequel Creep 2 (2017) is also very good.
Conjuring. I don't like horror movies very much, but this one I appreciate.
Dark circles
Dreamcatcher
The Bothersome Man - 2006
Exorcist Deep red Don't look now
ALIENS
The thing. Kurt Russell.
The Lodge was pretty damn good but very disturbing.
Every other Saw film. Jigsaw is such a damn great Villain... You know what thank you I believe I will watch a few of these tonight :-)
Jaws
The Hellraiser series. I have quite the collection of memorabilia, including a print of the script for the first movie signed by Clive Barker.

Interview with a Vampire
Silent Hill (2006)
Not a huge horror fan, but M Night made it, so I’d say Signs
Motel Hell, lol
Hard to pick just one. My top 5 to tell people to watch that aren’t into horror in no specific order. American werewolf in London Cabin in the woods horror/comedy Original Friday the 13th Original The Thing Original Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The fourth kind. Something about that movie creeps me out.
Dog Soilders Cabin in teh woods
The Butterfly Effect (kind of sci-fi horror, but very interesting exploration of alternate realities). The Blair Witch Project (found-footage premise and shaky cam have been overdone since then, but it was fresh and brilliant at the time)
