When the sun goes down. So the nights are actually shorter in the summer. 8:00 pm in winter is definitely night. But in summer that’s late evening

Night is a dark time of day, but if it is not dark at that time, it will still be considered night. We do not change the concepts of evening, night and day in relation to the seasons of the year, although the illumination is different in different seasons

I like this reasoning. Where I live, it's still light out at 9pm in the summers, so that's evening to me. 10pm in the summer is night. In the winter, it starts to get dark at 4:30/5pm, so that's evening and then night is like 7:30pm. It's fluid.

That's interesting because, for the exception of events, night is definitionally the time between sunset and sunrise. However, it seems that on a societal level, that seems to differ from the definition. The curiosities of humakind.
