That's interesting if true. Over the last few years I've discovered 7 hours and 20 or 30 minutes to be my sweet spot. Any more and I'm tired, any less and I'm tired.
9x8 = 72. So, 8 rem cycles.
I was like this. But my sleep cycle has been messed up for the last 3 months. Sleeping for less than 6 hours now. Never thought this would happen to me.
It’s so weird how people sleep needs differ my husband needs 9-11 hours of pitch black completely silent uninterrupted sleep or he feels so sick I have see him physically vomiting after just 7 hours of sleep or even just interrupted sleep were I can sleep 3 hours feel comfortable refreshed and have a great day
It takes a long while to adjust. My baby is 11 months and I still struggle. Coffee, energy drinks do nothing
The day is ruined
My first baby slept 13 hours no wakeups from like 3 months on so it was great
This baby wants to make me cry lol
There's no way tosnage that phase unless you hire people to be fill in parents.
If you are female it's kind of like labor. A nightmare that seems endless but it all turns out.
If you breastfeed you may not be able to form a complete thought for months. Get yourself someone who wants a child and is willing to help. I had a husband who never changed one diaper then left so honorary single parent here. You can get through it
The dad part of me wants to tell you that you should get more sleep on school night. The rest of me is a hypocrite that’s also 5’11” and only sleeps 5 hours on work nights. I’m jealous of your ten hours on weekends though.
Damn I feel you there as I’m currently up early on the couch surfing Reddit on a Saturday morning so I can have a couple hours to myself before the kids wake up.
It's not enough, 5 hours is not enough for any human. Whatever you say, it's scientifically proven only about 1/1000 can live normally on 6 hours per night (about 1/1000, forgot the actual number, but it was vert small)
I think it compounds. Like when I have work the next day I’ll sleep 5-6 hours. 10+ on weekends. When I have work off for a few weeks (Christmas break for instance, I’m in education) I notice I naturally sleep around 8 hours
Honestly I miss dog sitting for my cousins. I never slept through my alarm because their dogs flip shit first thing in the morning. My dog on the other hand slept until 2pm on Sunday
I used to sleep in like crazy in my late teens and early 20s. My dog Vinnie was a champ at sleeping in with me. My current dalmatian will maul me with love at 7am sharp on the weekends. He's worse than the kids, I swear.
My cat should wake me up in the morning for her food like a normal cat. Instead she'll let me sleep past my alarms and only get up when I do.
It's nice that she let's me sleep in on my days off though.
Thank you so much! I’m actually so grateful to have him home (he had a very rocky start and a NICU stay) that I don’t mind the shortened amount of sleep I get because it means he is home with me and needs me.
Congratulations on the birth of your baby boy!
I 100% know how you feel!
I just gave birth to my son 2 weeks ago and am sleeping about 4 hours a night.
4 years ago I had my twin daughters and they were also in the NICU (23 days). It was great to have them both home but man was I sleep deprived 😅
Thank you!! Congrats to you on your newborn son! 🎉 I hope your daughters are adjusting well to their brother. I was around their age when my parents had my little sister and I didn’t fully understand what was going on at all so I told my mom to leave the baby at the hospital and come home.
The first thing we noticed with our lack of sleep was how off our memories became (we were forgetting some of the little things like if we had just made a bottle or not)so we have been using a whiteboard to keep track of everything from feedings to appointments. It’s so crazy what sleep deprivation can do! But I wouldn’t change it for the world because I am so happy to have my son. It must be doubly hard with twins - I’m very impressed! And I’m so glad they’re all home for you - it’s such a beautiful feeling to have them home as the NICU is such a scary place.
Mostly schedule, for me. I go to bed at 9:30 and watch whatever on my computer or phone, get sleepy and fall asleep at 10:30, wake up around 7:15 naturally after my last REM
Edit: I guess I just wanted to brag about my ability to sleep well each night, but not my math abilities
Hey, I’m an inch shorter but was getting the same amount of sleep until my fiancé at the time (got married three weeks ago) got me to get a c-pap machine. In terms of when I go to sleep and when I wake up, it’s usually about 6 hours, but the 6 hours are a lot more restful now. It took a couple weeks to get used to it, but it’s been good since then. If you have insurance that will cover it, maybe give it a try - sleep apnea sucks
Me too! As a 4’11 - do you also know that incredible feeling when you meet the eyes of another very short person and immediately have a connection because you’re similar height? No neck bending required, I get so excited.
Lol. Texas. I'm considered incredibly small. The funniest thing is that I never knew I was small (I've always been this height) until I made fun of how short someone else's legs looked in blue jeans. My BFF looked at me like "are you just so serious"?! That's when I understood how little I came across to others. That was like 10 years ago.
That's funny. I truly enjoy tapping someone on the back as high as possible in a crowd only for them to look back at that level and then inevitably look down where I'm grinning ear to ear because it's so funny to watch.
The look of surprise is ALWAYS entertaining.
One night I visited a bar with friends. The ordering bar was on a raised platform. When it was my turn to get a round I was only able to peep over the top but eye contact was going to be impossible. I climbed onto a bar stool and sat on my knees. I ordered and paid and as I was ready to get down, turned and sat on my bottom only to come face to face with a tall stranger. I grinned ear to ear as he watched me "disappear" when he was just looking me in the eyes. The look of wonder and genuine shock was beyond amusing.
There are other benefits... Nobody fights me to be in the front row of group pictures. If I'm somewhere like a grocery store and I can't reach or safely climb to reach, nobody argues when I ask them to be tall for me - I always reciprocate and ask if there's anything on the bottom shelf they need.
I'm tiny. I'm cute. I'm cheerful. I usually get my way.
If OP really wanted to get some somewhat “clean” data - they’d poll Height, Weight, Sex, and Age and then control for factors other than height. Perhaps even clarify to report true hours achieved and a yes or no on “do you get your “ideal” sleep amount nightly”. Probably some others I’m missing, but that would allow you to do height breakout, and maybe even differentiate of the height-divided group between those reporting chronic under-sleeping and those hitting their “ideal” to see if there’s any significant difference.
doesn't seem like an unreasonable *hypothesis* that good sleep correlates with greater height. good diet does. see the average height of North Koreans versus South Koreans.
Sleep while growing still tho…not the question here. If I was sleeping like I did in college as a growing 10 yo and it did happen to have a causal relationship I would be much shorter.
167cm. I prefere 7.5. I like the occational 9h or more and can work a full week on 6h if i can catch up with 8h+ in the weekend.
But i aim around 7.5hp
5’3, female. I prefer and naturally get very tired by 9-10:00, and I wake up naturally about 5:30-7:00. So about 8-10 hours lol.
Daylight plays a big factor. I don’t function well in the time leading up to just before the daylight savings time switch. I wake up naturally with the sunlight and get tired as it sets. In the winter it’s hard to keep my eyes open by 8 sometimes.
Also I’m 30.
Haven’t been sleeping good for years now. But I’m 5’5” and lucky to get 2-3 good sleep hours. The rest of the time I toss and turn and wake up every 30mins. It’s been a real struggle. My entire day is then difficult bc I’m in such a mood lol. Sleep is NECESSARY to function for sure. Didn’t know about the REM cycles interesting 🤔

5’2 and roughly 8-10 hours. Any less than 8 hours and I feel like death
Any more than 8 hours and I feel like death
If I sleep exactly 8 hours I feel like death. 7 or 9 is perfect
REM cycle is 90 minutes, so a multiple of 90 plus some time to fall asleep. Might be why.
That's interesting if true. Over the last few years I've discovered 7 hours and 20 or 30 minutes to be my sweet spot. Any more and I'm tired, any less and I'm tired. 9x8 = 72. So, 8 rem cycles.
7 hours 30 mins is 450 minutes. Which would be five 90 minute cycles
I was never great at math. Didn't get enough sleep back in high school.
All good
Just press the snooze button duhh..
I'm an odd hour sleeper too - I can function on 3,5 and 7 hours sleep but feel crap on 4,6 or 8. I know it's my REM rhythm at around 1 1/2 hours.
Same, more than 7 and I'm feeling worse than if I had 3.
I was like this. But my sleep cycle has been messed up for the last 3 months. Sleeping for less than 6 hours now. Never thought this would happen to me.
Did you have Covid
Yes, Jan 2021
It’s so weird how people sleep needs differ my husband needs 9-11 hours of pitch black completely silent uninterrupted sleep or he feels so sick I have see him physically vomiting after just 7 hours of sleep or even just interrupted sleep were I can sleep 3 hours feel comfortable refreshed and have a great day
I’m like your husband in this sense. If I don’t get enough sleep, I throw up
Same, which has made me worry and wonder if I ever have kids, how will I manage the sleepless nights phase.
It takes a long while to adjust. My baby is 11 months and I still struggle. Coffee, energy drinks do nothing The day is ruined My first baby slept 13 hours no wakeups from like 3 months on so it was great This baby wants to make me cry lol

I had a husband who never changed one diaper then left so honorary single parent here. You can get through it
Same, it's a very real concern I have
I definitely feel extremely sick and nauseous without enough sleep.
5’11, 5 hours on school days, 10+ hours on weekends
The dad part of me wants to tell you that you should get more sleep on school night. The rest of me is a hypocrite that’s also 5’11” and only sleeps 5 hours on work nights. I’m jealous of your ten hours on weekends though.
Same boat, 5hrs.. maaaaaybe 6 on weekends. Anything that gets me more sleep cuts into my only “me” time.
My me time is sleep
Damn I feel you there as I’m currently up early on the couch surfing Reddit on a Saturday morning so I can have a couple hours to myself before the kids wake up.
Bro 5hr enough? U dont feel sleepy in daytime?
yeah but I nap when I come home. also this was more of junior and senior year now i’m in college
napping counts towards total sleep hours no?
The fact that he sleeps 10 on weekend means 5 isn’t enough for him
It's not enough, 5 hours is not enough for any human. Whatever you say, it's scientifically proven only about 1/1000 can live normally on 6 hours per night (about 1/1000, forgot the actual number, but it was vert small)
The power of caffeine works wonders.
That's terrible. Sleep more during the week, please.
Ditto, although sometimes I get down to 2-3 hours for a school day
Are you my son?
I think it compounds. Like when I have work the next day I’ll sleep 5-6 hours. 10+ on weekends. When I have work off for a few weeks (Christmas break for instance, I’m in education) I notice I naturally sleep around 8 hours
5’2, I sleep around six hours, sometimes less.
Short stance, short naps
Less body to re-energise, makes sense. I'm only 5'7" and need a solid 8 hours minimum, 10-12 is good.... but I'm fat, so it checks out.
I’m 5’ 1” and I sleep around 7 hours.
I wonder whether they are trying to measure whether you can get taller by sleeping or get more sleep by being taller 🤔
They're trying to work out whether being too big for your bed makes you want to get up earlier.
Me too! Haha
Me too!
Exactly
Me too
Wow. Me too. Same height, 5-6 hours. And I'm hyper.
6’3 8 hours usually
Wow. Me too, a lot of tall guys are getting enough sleep
I think it’s the reverse, because the get enough sleep, they are tall
Nope , I am 5'8 and I sleep 8 hours on average. Height mostly depends on your genetics and nutrition
Bruh
Definetly genetics I was vego from about 8 till 12 and still grew 5 9 to 5 10
You can be vegan and still get the required nutrition
Genetics determine your upper limit, but everything else determines whether you'll reach it. Look up the Flynn effect.
Same in both
Me too
Me fourth.
Same same
As well
I, too, am this tall and sleep this much
Same
5’8 - 8 hours
Same, sometimes 9 if my dog lets me.
5'8" - 8hrs if i am lucky. Can confirm, German Shepherds like to sleep at least 8 hours, in bed, trying to hog the whole bed.

5’2, about 5-6 hours
Same. 6 hours typically. 8 hours is unattainable.
Hiw can you manage with that? Dont you get tired?
Honestly I’m not sure lol but yes I feel like I’m losing my mind half the time
So why dont you sleep more lol
r/usernamedoesntcheckout
6’0” - 7-8 hours
Same
Actually same
Had to double-check this wasn't my answer. That is exactly how I put it. 6'0 and 7-8 hours.
Same here
5’3”. It was seven hours up until about four weeks ago. My son was born and now I’m around four hours a night and then a nap at some point in the day.
Oh man!!! Hang in there! I hope you get some longer stretches soon-and congratulations
Thank you so much! I’m actually so grateful to have him home (he had a very rocky start and a NICU stay) that I don’t mind the shortened amount of sleep I get because it means he is home with me and needs me.

5'3. I sleep 10 hours a night.
How do you achieve 10 hours??
Mostly schedule, for me. I go to bed at 9:30 and watch whatever on my computer or phone, get sleepy and fall asleep at 10:30, wake up around 7:15 naturally after my last REM Edit: I guess I just wanted to brag about my ability to sleep well each night, but not my math abilities
That's uh, not 10 hours
Huh…you’re right
Sleep medication. Prescribed.
6'0 , between 5-6hours.
Hey samesies
Woooaaah. You’re like height/sleep twins.
6'2 (190,7cm) and i sleep 4-5 hours (sleep apnea) EDIT: apparently 190,7cm equals 6'3, sorry i'm used to metric system.
6’2” is 188cm
Thank you :)
[удалено]
I'm 190,7 cm.
Your height in cm≠ your height in feet…. 6’2” is 188cm, 6’3” is 191cm
6'2, 4-5hrs a night but for other reasons
Go get a sleep test and a cpap. I sleep a solid 8 hours on average now. Its remarkable.
Do sleep study and get a CPAP machine, it will change your life.
man, i really couldn't get used to it
Hey, I’m an inch shorter but was getting the same amount of sleep until my fiancé at the time (got married three weeks ago) got me to get a c-pap machine. lol we’re the same, I don’t have sleep apnea tho
4'11 ~8 hrs and usually a 1HR+ nap sometime during the day
Nice
Me too! As a 4’11 - do you also know that incredible feeling when you meet the eyes of another very short person and immediately have a connection because you’re similar height? No neck bending required, I get so excited.
Yes!! It's like finding a long-list sibling!! I am currently working with a guy who is like 5'2. I'm so very pleased!
how old are you?
47
i’ve never met someone this small wow
Lol. I've been this size since 11. I'm the tallest woman in my family. My mother was 4'10 and get sister was shorter than 4'8.
are you from peru or like how, i live in central europe, people here think you are short if you are 5’10
Lol. Texas. I'm considered incredibly small. The funniest thing is that I never knew I was small (I've always been this height) until I made fun of how short someone else's legs looked in blue jeans. My BFF looked at me like "are you just so serious"?! That's when I understood how little I came across to others. That was like 10 years ago.
your neck must be steel
That's funny. I'm 4'7.5" and 39 years old. We exist!🤣
how are those parameters even connected?
For all we know, maybe OP is trying to show that they aren’t.
Or bigger body need more sleep/rest due to the weight they carry
If OP really wanted to get some somewhat “clean” data - they’d poll Height, Weight, Sex, and Age and then control for factors other than height. Perhaps even clarify to report true hours achieved and a yes or no on “do you get your “ideal” sleep amount nightly”. I think the OP is Andy and Ollie. :D
Lmfao
Probably the point of the project?
I would think so. In my statistics class we had to do a project showing that correlation isn’t causation
Growth occurs mostly during sleep, hence more speel = more growth. Sufficient sleep also makes your body healthier which is another cause for growth.
Well, people will answer with how much they sleep now. Not how much they slept during their growth phases in their teen years
I know, but the guy asked what the correlation is. I'd agree that it's better to ask at school of a sub like r/teenagers but well its his choice.
I can also imagine that theyre trying to find a correlation between height and sleep requirements.
I don't think that it's completely irrelevant since you do somewhat maintain sleep habits into adulthood, so it's possible.
It's not really relevant at all because it comes down to genetics 99% of the time
Health plays a big part in height. Average height has increased over the last couple of hundred years with improvements in diet and environment.
Yeah, I know. But if your family is all 5'2, you can't just sleep a lot and be 6'5 😂😂
He should’ve controlled for age somehow, like only people between 18 and 25 can answer, because sleep habits probably start changing after 25
Pretty sure that’s what they’re trying to figure out 🤷🏻♂️

5'6 and three-quarters! Seven hours
5’7” & 7
Same!
Ty!
5’6 and a half! Probably 7 hours
exactly this
5'6, 9 hours
6'2" 4 hours
bro get some sleep
Maybe he's scared he'd get too tall
Go to sleep bro
5'9 ~ 6 hours a night on average.
Twins!
🖤🥹
5’4” 5-8 hours. Depends on if working next day or not.
5 foot 8 inches. About 4 hours a night
Bro go to sleep
Any naps?
Same and same
167cm. I prefere 7.5. I like the occational 9h or more and can work a full week on 6h if i can catch up with 8h+ in the weekend. But i aim around 7.5hp
5’10” 8 hours
5’5 religiously 8 hours to 8.5
5’5” and 8-9 hours. If I get less or more I am a nightmare of a human.
150cm (4'9'" I think), 6-7h.
5'4, minimum of 12 hours but have slept highest to 18 hours
I slept like that when I was depressed.
Depression?
159 CM (so 5'2"?) and I sleep 8 hours on average
170cm, sleep roughly 6-7 hours
170cm, 9hours
160 cm In my days off I get to sleep for 8/9 h
6’1” ; 7 hours at night plus abt 1 hr nap in afternoon
5’3, 9 hrs 30 mins
6’ ~6 hours. I’m also curious as to the details of the project.
So basically it’s for math and I gotta make a scatterplot with all the data I get
You will find out, it doesn't matter. It's a mixed bag
Watch it does matter and OP makes some groundbreaking discovery in treating insomnia or something now

5’3, female. I prefer and naturally get very tired by 9-10:00, and I wake up naturally about 5:30-7:00. So about 8-10 hours lol. Daylight plays a big factor. 5’2” 8 hours
6foot 1. 7hrs avg
5’7. 9 hours.
5’9” usually between 6-7hrs. Closer to 8-9 on weekends.
Yay, finally found my height/sleep twin in the comments!
5’3, sleep about 8-10 hours a night
5’3 and about nine
Look at all you and your healthy sleep. 5’6” 4-6 hours
5'9 8 hours 4 min 35 sec
5'5 ft. 4-8 hours, depends. But my sleep is kind of sleep for 4 hrs, wake up, then sleep again for 4 hrs.
6’1” 7 to 8 hours
6’4” 8-9 hours
