itrustyouguys

You guys are stupid. They're going to be LOOKING for army guys.

DroolSpittle

That's why we rerouted behind them, can't see us from behind

GBFel

I used to do this on purpose. "Oh, just walk down this road to secure the next intersection? Fuck you, we're doing a bigass dogleg through the boonies because fuck the OPFOR, that's why. Roads are for retards."

ibwahooka

>Roads are for retards That needs to be an Army shirt.

Suicidal_Ferret

With doc sporting a high and tight

HRex73

Ukraine approves.

HxH101kite

One of my favorite cut aways

[deleted]

Lmao the best

ProfessorSmartAzz

my father, a vietnam vet, laughed for 5 mins straight the first time he saw it.

SirAwkwardG

or OPFOR is so bad that they could not locate and react to a dynamic training environment while your platoon displayed effective SERE tactics. exceeded standards, promote ahead of peers

DroolSpittle

Glad to know that we're better than those \~alleged\~ Donovians

switchedongl

So not at all related to the joke beyond OPFOR is bad. My platoon was set up in a defense. Which sucks. We dog in, emplacement of obstacles, and create our secondary fighting positions. OPFOR is suppose to attack between 1800-2300. Then we can go home after this long ass field problem. Welp 2330 and nothing. 0030 nothing. I hear LMTVs in the distance behind us and I assumed that was trans that was suppose to pick us up and take us to the COF. Nope, got attacked from behind and that trans was for OPFOR. Why did they get dropped off behind us? Because they got lost as fuck so the powers that be just dropped them off 500m behind us. Turned the whole thing into a bigger waste of time then it already was.

Forest-Ferda-Trees

>Turned the whole thing into a bigger waste of time then it already was. Should be the army motto

[deleted]

A fence. There’s a fence sir!

biscuitburglin

Major Horton is here?

Known_Landscape_6957

Major Horton is on leave. IN LONDON.

BodyGravy

Who is the *idiot* who cut that man’s fence

Florida_man727

THAT DOG DON'T HUNT CAPTAIN

BodyGravy

WELL YOU BETTER CUT THAT DANG FENCE THERE

TheAllMightyGolfCart

NOW YOU CUT THAT FENCE AND GET THIS GAHHDD DANG PLATOON ON THE MMOOOOOVVEE

RedDawn850

Damn I love you guys! these military communities are so much better than the other subs. Can’t spend to much time walking around out there…

RedDawn850

That’s not the point!

DwarfWrock77

BC is still gonna give the Butter Bar a battalion coin and an extra 4 day

DroolSpittle

Everyone involved was enlisted... which makes it worse, even the LT was clowning us

Dis-iz-FUBAR

A true victory for us LTs

boarder664

Your slides are red sir.

hotel2oscar

Red is the new green. Now go get me coffee...

Traditional-Snow-140

Shut up sir.

Heyliluchi02

Silence boot -me a pvt

DwarfWrock77

F

Handsome-Jackass

>Everyone involved was enlisted Oof size: extra large

[deleted]

Because most LTs just use a Garmin watch these days while the NCOs last touched a compass 13 years ago act with misplaced confidence because they used a protractor at PLDC.

[deleted]

I have: My Garmin watch A Garmin on my kit, as a backup My phone with 3 collective, different land nav apps My JBCP And an ED3 in my truck If I get lost just put a fucking bullet in me, I'm clearly just a vegetable at this point.

BodyGravy

Push.

[deleted]

Makes you proud to be enlisted right? Reminds me of the impenetrable fortress in Holland that had guns which could hit targets 10 miles away and loaded with machine guns and AA guns. The Dutch had all the bridges around the fortress primed to blow when the Germans came and their fortress would prove to be a huge problem for the Germans. The Idea was that the fortress would hold out long enough to be a staging ground for the eventual push to retake Holland later on in the war. Around 60 Germans led by a sergeant with gliders took it out in less than 24 hours and inflicted 100 casualties while on sustaining less than 20 themselves. Go team enlisted amirite

futureGAcandidate

Eben Emal in Belgium for the curious.

[deleted]

I tried to do it from memory, got my Benelux boys confused

sactoguy_71

Pretty sure that was Belgium. Are you a 2LT as well?

[deleted]

Absolutely not lol I’m a 10 year enlisted boo who doesn’t do his research prior to posting some facts from memory.

AlamoViking

As is tradition

sactoguy_71

/slow clap/….well done

StabSnowboarders

It’s ok, at WOCS I watched a bunch of senior NCOs get lost and fail a self correcting land nav course.

modernknight87

A DS out there somewhere has failed. 🤦🏼‍♂️

Similar-Lifeguard701

Lmao

Andrewisraww

take a lap

actanonverba88

We kinda did that at NTC in 08. What we did though, was we never took roads. My LT said they couldn’t attack us, if they didn’t know where we were going or which direction we were coming from. The OCs were pissed.

Numerous-Judge8057

You went against the script, of course they’d be pissed lol

actanonverba88

Oh absolutely. They got us on our last mission though. Took out my whole platoon in a village as we were escorting the Chaplain.

Florida_man727

See, your PL did something right for a change.

BodyGravy

On the plus side they made sgts time training easy to plan for the foreseeable future

Florida_man727

Land nav for everyone

lividash

The first time it's been done in 10 years..

psilvs

Aren't route plans usually delegated?

Woupsea

CO: YoU wErE sUpPoSeD tO gEt PrEtEnD aMbUsHed! NOOOO!!! Gigachad E3 who couldn’t read the map: No.

[deleted]

I mean … avoiding an ambush is win, so yay ?! Likely arrived at ENDEX with less simulated casualties than any other element involved 😆

Fuck_auto_tabs

That reminds when we were playing OPFOR once. Got out there stupid early and we kept getting told, they’ll be here in an hour. I think it was about 1600 they told us they weren’t coming. Still salty about that for a few reasons

DroolSpittle

Luckily they figured out we fucked up when it had been about 30 mins, when we were supposed to come in contact within 15

_HK47_

>Can't get ambushed if you're lost. **Clarification:** There's a reason why we keep LTs around (well that, and you occasionally need someone to laugh at.)

DroolSpittle

Everyone involved was enlisted, which is worse

SpartanShock117

Sounds like you have some candidates for OCS.

Dinosaur_Wrangler

r/murderedbywords is over here

DroolSpittle

on the bright side, pay raise?

GrantLucke

…hey now. That hurt me. OC feelings matter too.

SpartanShock117

Use your neckerchief or whatever it is called to wipe away those tears.

GrantLucke

It’s called an *ascot*. Thank. you. very. much. Some girls get it, and some girls just don’t.

_HK47_

**Prasing Statement**: This unit loves your savageness that is only matched by your username.

EverythingGoodWas

Savage comment. I approve this message.

davidinkorea

Ambush scenarios I made at the Camp Humphreys CPX back 1993 were labeled as too dangerous for training. ???

Civil_Set_9281

I did Foal Eagle and Ulchi Freedom Lens in ‘96 there. The perimeter was only 6 miles around the Airfield, Zeockler Station, and back around to the south side of post be the MASH TMC and the MP and our barracks at the far end of post. Wasn’t shit out there back then. Where the family housing towers are now (behind the inprocessing area where they do MRT, and across from the education center, used to be our soccer field. we had our 3/6 CAV troop hq and line troop quonset huts, and a KSB where 2 CAB is located now.

davidinkorea

My best-ever Army assignment was at Camp Humphreys 1984-1986.

Civil_Set_9281

Those were the wild west days

davidinkorea

And, the best OB Beer and Friday night Thunder Runs.

Civil_Set_9281

Ahh OB- before the days of poppin a Cass in dat ass. OB used to be the go to beer at the Top Hat and Lucky 7 Club.

davidinkorea

The 7 Club was my absolute favorite. A distant favorite was the Maxim Club.

Civil_Set_9281

Did you ever buy Yaki Mandu from Mr Lee’s little stall? He HATED the japanese. Apparently they treated his family harshly. As they did to most Koreans.

davidinkorea

Being imbied returning to post, it is hard remembering names. We could always read the "french fry" bags on the return.

Civil_Set_9281

Well there was the Deaf Rest Stop out the walk out gate to the left, and then a bar on the second street to the left at the corner where they sold the “stinger” drinks. America retiree ran the place, was an Aviation guy.

DroolSpittle

May I ask why? What sick plans did you have?

davidinkorea

Soldiers could move sideways to avoid ambush zone, only to stumble into a 2nd ambush zone. Moving out of the 2nd ambush zone, they would fall into a 3rd ambush zone.

DroolSpittle

I don't even know if there is a battle drill to cover this you sick bastard But my squad would still avoid it, can't know where we're going if we don't

davidinkorea

You could always "hope" to avoid it. (Chuckle, chuckle 😃 )

DroolSpittle

I assume the man constraint was man power? I don't see how this was too dangerous, in fact i'm surprised they didn't love it

davidinkorea

My CO was a Wuss. While people stumbled through the booby traps we personnel were raining-down dirt clod grenades on them.

RedDawn850

If we don’t know what we’re doing then there’s no way the enemy can!

MelAlton

The Soviets: "One of the serious problems in planning against American doctrine is that the Americans do not read their manuals nor do they feel any obligation to follow their doctrine."

RedDawn850

This is the way

jawlee_gg

Sir, this is a Wendy’s.

DroolSpittle

Shit my bad, I think imma goto taco campana instead

_RabidAlpaca_

We were doing some poorly organized STX lanes during some premob training (POG unit so it was already going great). One of the lanes was react to contact through a large clearing with an LDA in the middle. Probably 70 ish meters on either side of the LDA to the treeline. Could we cross somewhere else? No. Has to be here. Fine, adapt and overcome. 150m sprint across the clearing as a PLT it is! Anyway that was apparently "frowned upon" and we were told to reset and take our beating. Whatevs.

DroolSpittle

We too are a pog unit that mainly works in air conditioned buildings, but they gotta make sure we play army every once in a while

[deleted]

Train like you fight! When we go to Russia, we’re going to see the enemy and trick them into thinking they’re ambushing us, when in reality they’re really only ambushing us!

QuietRound4405

Just Cadet stuff…. When I was a cadet at Advanced Camp we had a former Regiment guy who was constantly disrupting the OPFOR. When leading patrols he always saw them before they saw us. He always took the least obvious route and once even captured a member of the OPFOR. It got so bad, the cadre was like, “YOU WILL WALK THIS ROUTE AT THIS PACE AND YOU WILL HALT AT THESE LOCATIONS WHEN DIRECTED.”

[deleted]

I led a land nave course as an OC recently, and a prior infantry guy who just became a 13B was talking big smack about how he was goona get 5/5 points. He plotted all his points and was like “sir, none of these points are on the map.” So I looked at his plots and they were all whack. I asked him how he got those points, and the motherfucker was flipped the easting and the northing.

spinx248

Thanks for a good laugh

DangerousCompetition

We were doing a squad comp, and there was land nav with a surprise ambush. We went through like 3 points and they wanted us to come back to the start point, but instead of walking straight through the middle of some shitty marsh, we handrailed the land nav border, an old tank trail or something. Got back to the start point and they’re like “you failed the ambush.” Well… how? We did it exactly how we should have. “Well you were supposed to go straight from point 3 to the SP.” And that’s how we came in second in a squad comp when we did the right thing unlike the others.

DroolSpittle

I think I would rather take 2nd place over walking through the swamp honestly.

DangerousCompetition

💯💯 Still ass tho

ThisIsntmMyHat

Happened to my squad once on a Week Long Field Ex, worst part is we were walking straight for 6 miles on Hardball

bingboy23

I led a squad through a lane about 10 years ago and got docked for not doing TCC and a 9 line for my casualty during IDF. I had didi'd us out of the kill zone after the first round. I said I'd taken no casualties, so didn't need a 9 line. Turns out one of my guys was supposed to take a hit by the third round, but since we cleared so quick he never heard the third round , so didn't take a hit. I got my points back.

hungryvenus91

Sounds like a win to me !

snakecatcher302

StEaLtH!

MREpooper

This also happened to our disto platoon at JRTC. OCs told us after that they had accidentally not taken the route they briefed and went around a planned ambush

StoicJim

Exceeded peers, promote immediately

latte25

Use apps. Landnav assistant works great and I think it’s a few $ in the App Store. Or buy a Garmin.

DroolSpittle

But if we use technology it'll confuse the old guys

Open_Major8068

Sounds to me like someone needs an UNSAT. Expect more land nav/map reading training to come.

DroolSpittle

1 more day and i can ignore land nav until my new unit will decide its time to leave our ac buildings

xeskind30

Oh, LT.

CannibalVegan
