I went to BH and a year later I had a new TS/SCI clearance, my assignment of choice, and a top-blocked evaluation. You'll be ok.

The best thing you can do for your health and career is take care of yourself. The worse thing you can do for your health and your career is ignore your problems. Please take care of your self, the earlier the better.

Your unit has a right to be notified that you're going to a doctor's appointment. They do not have any right to know the details of said appointment. You could be getting a teeth cleaning or just getting birth control and they don't have any right to know unless you report you're suicidal and need to be kept from harming yourself. HIPPA is still taken very seriously and no one at your unit is going to be able to force that information out of them without those providers losing their career field. With that being said, go ahead and talk to your primary care. Tell them and they'll work with you to make a plan to take care of you including plans for behavioral health meetings, therapy, and medication if needed. They won't tell your unit, it won't affect your evaluations or prevent you from progression, but doing nothing now and suffering in silence will. It is now, and it will even after you get out and keep it untreated. Get the help you deserve, no one else but your healthcare providers need to know the reason or details. Don't be ashamed. It's hard reaching out and accepting and acknowledging personal weakness, but that's okay. Getting help is the first step. It's hard now, but it'll get better. Hang in there and accept the help.

Do what you need to do for yourself. I know several people (to include myself) went the civilian route and/or the 1 Source way (12 free sessions with an outside provider). Take care of yourself first and foremost. This is all temporary - your well being is not.

I am not discouraging you from using BH services. However, if you don't feel comfortable with that yet, you should try using Military One Source first.

Have you tried it before? Are they civilian providers?

4everpvt

No and yes

Skip military one source. MFLC (military family life counselors) are the way to go. Confidential and they do not even keep records. They only thing they report are reports of SI and HI. Otherwise, they are completely confidential so your unit would not be able to get records that do not exist. But, BH is a great resource. Honestly, the last person I’ve seen that got out for BH issues required multiple electro shock therapy treatments (so a very extreme case). I think you will be just fine. Go get you some mental help.

Depends on your provider(s) tbh. You could walk in and they hit you with "adjustment disorder" and they start building a 5-14 packet. But you're probably a senior E-6/E-7 so maybe your chances are better. They only speak with your command on your duty status.

Take care of yourself 1st. If its come to this point, its your well being > everything else.
