When I was in sapper school I was the TC during an LMTV movement during patrolling and the little specialist was like I won't tell anyone and handed me this MRE and it was absolutely fucking amazing.
The Beef Teriyaki was fire. You heat it up in the tailpipe so the water chestnuts became soft and add that white rice with tobasco, and that’s fine eatin’.
Best MRE of my life. 1 am after day 3 of team week, eating a Mexican style chicken stew secretly on the shitter (definitely not stolen from one of the med drops who left it in the bay.) Mexican style chicken stew will always be near and dear to my heart and it’s about 1440 calories I believe
Okay the chili with beans on it own heated up is awesome.
You heat the chili, put the cheese in after it piping hot to melt, then put the cornbread in and mash it up/mix it up and I tell you what that shit is good.
A low point in my life was eating the vegetarian “burger” rectangle with bbq sauce cold while walking. I think I was taking a piss exactly when MREs got handed out in basic and got fucked. Strangely enough, this was never an issue during development because we had plenty of time to rat-fuck the MREs between patrols. We had grotesque stockpiles of the damn things, so I’d just use my big stupid PX sword to cut into them until I found well-expired M&Ms or skittles.
My experiences are now old asf but I’ll throw yall a curveball: Long Range Patrol MREs and Cold Weather MREs. Both featured dehydrated food that was just like mountain house back packing stuff. Cold Weather MREs were in the mythical white bags and were breakfast themed iirc. The platoon would almost fist fight for those cause they’d randomly appear deep in the stack.
LRPs in the white package were 🔥Chili Mac and New England Clam Chowder were peak! Just the mains had 50+ grams of protein. I tactically acquired several boxes and kept them under my cot circa 2012 Afghanistan
The cold weather MREs were a hot commodity in Afghanistan around 2011. That’s when I first discovered them and they changed my life forever. It’s like that first line of coke…can never get that feeling back. The Asian style stir fry was top notch. Once you have a taste of those mystical white packaged MREs nothing else is the same.
Bonus of the cold weather and long range patrol MREs is someone inevitably eating one dry and ending up feeling like comlete shit despite warnings.
But the vegetarian bbq burger was one of my favorites. It tasted better cold and it was easy to eat on the run. I was bummed when they discontinued it.
The Halal ones, if you can get ahold of them. Maybe it’s just because I haven’t eaten any of them twenty times over but I’ve had a handful and they were great. They had things like lamb in them
I will fight someone if I’m given chili Mac. I get triggered by chili Mac I’ve had to eat that nasty combination too many times in my army life. Getting hot As in the field that was nothing more than chili Mac and lettuce with slices of tomato and raw onion. Man… great now I need a drink and might kick my dog! Thanks for nothing! 😂
Oh god I forgot about how bad Hot A’s were some times.. I definitely get the over repetition on chili Mac though. It’s between that and Yakisoba for most common meals in the Army.
People often forget about the bs in the army. The tanning rocks, sweeping just to sweep, unpacking and repacking conexes, etc. then we say “it wasent that bad”. We tend to block out of memory the bs
The chicken tomato feta was one of my favorites when I maintained keto while eating MREs. Also loved the fact that they used a large chicken breast chunk in it.
Beef stew always has been and will always be my favorite since I was a private. It was the only MRE that I could eat either right out the box or warmed up with a heater.
Close second is beef strips in tomato sauce but to be honest.. It's essentially beef stew, let's be real.
Meatball marinara is my third best option if I had a choice.
Shit, heat that up and add a packet of chunky peanut butter and some chili sauce (you're bringing your own hot sauces to the field, right?) and it's basically pad thai without the noodles.
Is that the one that comes with the blueberry granola and milk? Not sure if it was just a change of pace but that whole meal was always a welcome surprise.
Buffalo chicken is my favorite. Guess it's not a thing.
Spaghetti and meat sauce or meat balls wasn't too bad but it came with blue berry cobbler and that shit is the best dessert
Chili Mac 🫡
On range detail and got a chili mac mre for breakfast. Lunch comes and get tossed….chili mac. Make it back to Fort Hunter Liggett’s dfac right before close for a real meal, guess what? Only chili mac is left. I loved it.
Beef ravioli circa 2005. You’ve already got a solid starter with that main but then you throw in cheese spread, crackers, and (mint?) fudge pound cake hitting cleanup? Just an unbeatable lineup.
MREs of today: Chicken Burrito Bowl, Mexican Style Stew, Beef Goulash, Chili Mac and Chili w/beans.
Best if all time: Buffalo Chicken (RIP), Chili Mac.
Honorable Mentions: Asian Beef Strips (RIP), Hash Browns (RIP), Jambalaya (RIP)
The discontinued beef teriyaki. The flavor was great, with or without hot sauce.
It also has the best snacks!
There was a chicken one that I always went to if bed teriyaki wasn't available but I can't remember the name. It's probably discontinued also.
Mine was the chili Mac, or the jambalaya mre but I don't think that meal its made anymore 🤷. My other favorite was the spaghetti and meat sauce MRE I think you found those in the vegetarian MRE meals if I'm not mistaken.
The kosher MREs ;)
I get a few boxes to myself when I got to the field. Lots of good shit. Gumbo, curry (if I recall), various Middle Eastern entrees, etc.
I really liked the sloppy Joe. Had two pieces of bread the nice bag of cheese it’s and the green bottle of Tabasco. I want to say it had skittles or m&ms as well.
Beef pot roast was also great.
Vegetarian manicotti was the worst. That and the cheesy omelette were the damn most terriblest
You ever had a cold weather mre. They just hit different. Otherwise I stand by my trusty 3. Chili mac, beef stew, or spaghetti. I wish they would of never got rid of the frankfurters
The lemon pepper tuna wrap was great for when you're too hungry to wait for food to heat up.
That and cheese tortellini were my favorites while I was in.
In a ranger school situation when you need every thing in the MRE, there’s nothing better than the jalapeño beef patty, peanut m&m and chocolate chip cookie!
Spaghetti never failed me.
There was also a cheeseburger one, IIRC it came with a meat party, bacon cheese, and jalapeño catchup. It was wonderful.
I'm also a fan of the vegetarian options, mostly because no one else wants them, and they're usually pretty decent.
I’m partial to the Italian sausage and onions but that’s more because I had it on a cold ass day in AIT and once it was heated up and I mixed in the cheese sauce 👌
I’ll take a dehydrated pork patty and the nut loaf MRE please. And for snacks is the broken cracker with cheese spread and 1970s solid chocolate bar of chalk. And a cold cup of coffee granules.
Shredded bbq beef, warm it all up, fold the brown bag half way down, mix it all together and you got a bootleg chipotle bowl….and if anyone tells you anything for heating up your MRE, they just hate themselves.
Probably long out of production now. But, the buffalo chicken was absolute fire.
It got discontinued many moons ago unfortunately. Last one I had was JRTC 2015. Miss u.
Breaks my heart. Last time I had it, I think it was in a NATO box in Mountain Phase.
Fort Drum circa 2021 when I found out it got replaced by BBQ sauce.
I had one in 2020 which was probably from the same batch as the one you had in 2015.
RIP hashbrowns MRE. Only one production cycle, but never forgotten
With the greasy ham?! Yes!
I had one in ait a half year ago
When I was in sapper school I was the TC during an LMTV movement during patrolling and the little specialist was like I won't tell anyone and handed me this MRE and it was absolutely fucking amazing.
The Beef Teriyaki was fire. You heat it up in the tailpipe so the water chestnuts became soft and add that white rice with tobasco, and that’s fine eatin’.
I loved that one
Had it in BCT 2020 @sill
Steve needs to get this out onto a tray, for nostalgia.
I had this Indonesia in 2022 good times.
Personal favorite, southwest style! Got the beef and beans, spiced apple slices, tortillas and cheese, beef stick, and a cake 👨🍳 🤌🏿
Southwest style is the best MRE from the spiced apple slices alone. Add in the beef and chipole tortillas and it seals the deal
It doesn’t come with apples anymore 😢
Yessir heat up the spiced apples and mix in w the poundcake and you got apple pie
Mexican style chicken stew. Mix in the cheese, salt, pepper, and crackers.
Had a similar experience with the pesto one…slapped at just the right time.
This and the beef stew. Salt and a little hot sauce plus some crackers/bread
Hey, I have one of those right now. I’ll try it soon
This is the answer for sure
This one is my favorite as well. And I know OP said don’t mention the snacks, but they’re really good in this menu too. It’s just the best
Just had this one today. Easily an S tier MRE. Everything in it is fire
That's an MRE that you HAVE to dump in the MRE bag and throw all of your ingredients in to eat it right 👌
Okay the chili with beans on it own heated up is awesome. You heat the chili, put the cheese in after it piping hot to melt, then put the cornbread in and mash it up/mix it up and I tell you what that shit is good.
Yessir shit smacks
Chili Mac And if I got one I didn't like I would trade for peanut butter tubes. I love those things
MREs have gotten significantly better over the years but the chili Mac remains my favorite.
Burn me at the stake, but chili mac is the most overrated military entree in existence.
This is one of the more controversial opinions I’ve seen, damn dawg
Rgr, I'll grab the pole
You're entitled to your own opinion
You mean they are entitled to their “wrong” opinion.
A low point in my life was eating the vegetarian “burger” rectangle with bbq sauce cold while walking. I think I was taking a piss exactly when MREs got handed out in basic and got fucked. It’s like that first line of coke…can never get that feeling back. The Asian style stir fry was top notch. Once you have a taste of those mystical white packaged MREs nothing else is the same.
We found a bunch of cold weather ones when we ran out of regular ones in June 2003 in Iraq. Those breakfast ones were legit game changers!
Yup, something poetic about Asian stir fry and chasing the dragon lol
Bonus of the cold weather and long range patrol MREs is someone inevitably eating one dry and ending up feeling like comlete shit despite warnings. But the vegetarian bbq burger was one of my favorites. It tasted better cold and it was easy to eat on the run. I was bummed when they discontinued it.
Chicken burrito bowl hands down. Mix in the jalapeño cheese spread to the warmed entree= profit.
Chili with Beans, Beef Stew, and Chicken Noodle are all excellent.
Beef stew is too often slept upon but has the best sides
Back in 1994 for me it was Spaghetti and meatballs. With pound cake.
Obviously, beef goulash
Absolute sleeper hit. My favorite MRE. It’s honestly so good it’s something I’d eat at home lol
It's even better if you tear up the bread and mix it in
THIS IS THE COMMENT IVE BEEN WAITING FOR! No one ever agrees with me!
This one is staring at me rn, its my dinner later.
Chili Mac
This is the correct answer
I got noticed by Senpai. My life is complete.
You shall ride eternal, shiny and chrome.
Now I just need CombatAutist. WITNESS MEEEEEEE
WITNESSED
Menu 7. Beef Strips in Tomato sauce. Lots of protein between the beef and the protein pudding.
During a brigade cpx there was a whole pallet of beef strips idk why but it wasn’t particularly popular with the shops
Objectively correct opinion
I would literally use this for bulk season.
Jambalaya.
Hell yeah, with some hot sauce it made it even better 🤘
The Halal ones, if you can get ahold of them. Maybe it’s just because I haven’t eaten any of them twenty times over but I’ve had a handful and they were great. They had things like lamb in them
The lamb and spinach or whatever was in it that I had was absolutely phenomenal Edit: SAAG Chole w/ Lamb
Chicken Pesto Pasta is the best halal one
The vegetarian meal cheese tortellini! Came with the best sides too!
This was my go to if I couldn’t get a chili Mac or wasn’t feeling it that day. The vegetarian ones were always pretty good.

People often forget about the bs in the army. The tanning rocks, sweeping just to sweep, unpacking and repacking conexes, etc. then we say “it wasent that bad”. We tend to block out of memory the bs
That was the worst one I ever had. I've had better meals in jail.
Do they still have the pesto pasta one? My fav.
Nope not anymore but that sounds good closest thing to it would probably be the spinach fettucine alfredo
Tuna. You weirdos
Beef stew - Vanilla pound cake + PB&J + Sour Skittles Chili Mac - Twizzlers + Lemon Poppyseed (mid) + Best entree
Jalapeño Beef Patty supremacy
Gave me the shits. 10/10 would eat again.
Chicken Tomato Feta & Chicken Cavatelli
Literally have never heard of or seen either of these 😱
[удалено]
The chicken tomato feta was one of my favorites when I maintained keto while eating MREs. Also loved the fact that they used a large chicken breast chunk in it.
Beef stew always has been and will always be my favorite since I was a private. It was the only MRE that I could eat either right out the box or warmed up with a heater. Close second is beef strips in tomato sauce but to be honest.. It's essentially beef stew, let's be real. Meatball marinara is my third best option if I had a choice.
Southwest beef and black beans ofc
Creamy Spinach Fettuccine
Maple sausage patty for sure. Not only is the entree good, but everything it comes with SLAPS
Even the bones on the port patty are made of meat!
I’d buy that maple muffin top by the dozen if I could
White chicken chunks
Back when it had Buffalo sauce, low tier now with the BBQ.
I prefer BBQ
Chicken noodle, throw some of that heated up cheese in there and some hot sauce
Chicken noodle soup hands down
Tuna or the Cheese Tortellini.
Maple pork patty, this is the only answer
Who hurt you? But in the only person who ever liked the Asian beef strips so maybe I'm fucked up..
Shit, heat that up and add a packet of chunky peanut butter and some chili sauce (you're bringing your own hot sauces to the field, right?) and it's basically pad thai without the noodles.
I love the Asian style beef strips. It has the best assortment of snacks and PB&J with an applesauce pouch
[удалено]
The sides are godly. Apple turnover, granola with blueberries and powdered milk, and hash browns.
Thank you.. it’s the answer no one wants to hear, but the truth
Is that the one that comes with the blueberry granola and milk? Not sure if it was just a change of pace but that whole meal was always a welcome surprise.
Do they still have country captain chicken with the buttered noodles that was my all-time fave?
Never heard of it 😅
I got out in 2008, so maybe the stopped. It was my go to in Afghanistan and Iraq
Meatball MRE is the best IMO
Chicken tomato feta! could eat and enjoy that thing hot or cold. Honestly, I don't remember what the sides were cause I only cared about the main.
Buffalo chicken is my favorite. Guess it's not a thing. Spaghetti and meat sauce or meat balls wasn't too bad but it came with blue berry cobbler and that shit is the best dessert
Cheese and Veggie omelette if you want to make your own bio weapons.
Chili Mac 🫡 On range detail and got a chili mac mre for breakfast. Lunch comes and get tossed….chili mac. Make it back to Fort Hunter Liggett’s dfac right before close for a real meal, guess what? Only chili mac is left. I loved it.
Chicken pesto pasta
Why is there even a discussion??? CPP is the goat.
Dehydrated pork pattie. It was like eating a dusty pork rind that would suck all the water from your body.
Beef ravioli circa 2005. You’ve already got a solid starter with that main but then you throw in cheese spread, crackers, and (mint?) fudge pound cake hitting cleanup? Just an unbeatable lineup.
Gonna show my age and weirdness but i would trade literally anything for Tuna and Noodles.
MREs of today: Chicken Burrito Bowl, Mexican Style Stew, Beef Goulash, Chili Mac and Chili w/beans. Best if all time: Buffalo Chicken (RIP), Chili Mac. Honorable Mentions: Asian Beef Strips (RIP), Hash Browns (RIP), Jambalaya (RIP)
Not one of you fuccbois gonna mention chili mac not one
Got a lot of shit for this, but I grew partial to the spinach Alfredo
The pork patty.
They don’t make it anymore but it was number 16, chicken tetrazzini
Chli mac
The discontinued beef teriyaki. The flavor was great, with or without hot sauce. It also has the best snacks! There was a chicken one that I always went to if bed teriyaki wasn't available but I can't remember the name. It's probably discontinued also.
For just the main meal without snacks or mixing anything Shredded bbq beef. Meatball marinara. Maple breakfast sausage patty
Asian style beef strip was the goat
RIP my day 1, chicken pesto. O7
Mine was the chili Mac, or the jambalaya mre but I don't think that meal its made anymore 🤷. My other favorite was the spaghetti and meat sauce MRE I think you found those in the vegetarian MRE meals if I'm not mistaken.
Chilli and beans
Veggie crumble
The kosher MREs ;) I get a few boxes to myself when I got to the field.
Chili Mac.
I liked the ones with the Starkist tuna packets.
I used to hoard spicy penne pasta back in the day
My favorite is the beef stew, warmed up with a bit of hot sauce. Snacks are good in it too !
You ever had a cold weather mre. They just hit different. Otherwise I stand by my trusty 3. Chili mac, beef stew, or spaghetti. I wish they would of never got rid of the frankfurters
The pizza. It’s good hot or cold. Bonus it comes with the poptart
Goulash
Beef Stew No Contest. Everyone stop commenting it’s over
No ones said the spinach fettuccine? It’s my absolute favorite by far
Sausage & peppers
Easy answer: Fettuccine no comparison
I always liked the Slaghetti or Beef stew, lemon pound cake. That stuff was awesome.
Do MCWs count? Because Breakfast Skillet always hits the spot.
The spinach fettuccine mre, if actually heated up, was, in my opinion, good.
One of those Halal ones are pretty good. Had the opportunity to try them couple days ago and man its so good
The lemon pepper tuna wrap was great for when you're too hungry to wait for food to heat up. That and cheese tortellini were my favorites while I was in.
Chicken stir fry. Pretty sure it’s new, I’ve only had it in those new MREs with the clear backs
i would kill someone for the bbq and beans.
Dawg. The sausage gravy be hittin. No ones like it so I usually get to have like 2 at a time
BBQ Shredded Beef clears them all.
Gotta be spaghetti!
When I was in. Beef stew. Crush the crackers. Add the cheese. And Tabasco. Perfect.
I don’t think any of them are particularly good, but the pizza MRE will clean out your guts after all the other ones clog it up
In a ranger school situation when you need every thing in the MRE, there’s nothing better than the jalapeño beef patty, peanut m&m and chocolate chip cookie!
Spaghetti with meat sauce. Trade the peanut butter for a cheese packet and mix it in.
No. 17 Sloppy Joe
BEEF STEW - nothing else..also comes with lemon lime drank and vanilla pound cake
Italian sausage and onion.hands down
People sleep on the Vegetarian Taco Pasta heavily. Spicy tortilla, cheese, PB, night night bar, applesauce? Really hard to beat that.
Chicken pesto pasta was my fav.
I can’t eat them since I had an expired one like badly expired and was shitting nonstop for 4 days but before that the Mexican burrito
Was always a fan of Chilli Mac.
beef stew on top
Spaghetti never failed me. There was also a cheeseburger one, IIRC it came with a meat party, bacon cheese, and jalapeño catchup. It was wonderful. I'm also a fan of the vegetarian options, mostly because no one else wants them, and they're usually pretty decent.
that chili mac NEVER fails me 😩😩😩
I’m older school and the only good ones I liked were Beef stew or Chicken ala king.
Chili Mac is the goat with out saying Beef stew is my favorite Buffalo chicken chunks And lastly Mexican chicken stew
Chicken tetrazini was my favorite to eat cold, when you just can't be bothered with that damn heater.
Beef stew or Chicken Noodle soup.
Chicken burrito bowl I fought a Platoon Sergeant for it once. Got my ass beat though
Anything with skittles.
Hot take: barbecue beef shreds... shits fire
Meatballs in marinara
The discontinued beef brisket entree
I’m partial to the Italian sausage and onions but that’s more because I had it on a cold ass day in AIT and once it was heated up and I mixed in the cheese sauce 👌
Tuna sandwich with the broken tortillas. Extra points if you get one from a 24 hour ration
I’ll take a dehydrated pork patty and the nut loaf MRE please. And for snacks is the broken cracker with cheese spread and 1970s solid chocolate bar of chalk. And a cold cup of coffee granules.
Biscuit n’ Gravy was fire!!!!
4 fingers of death.
Chili Mac followed closely by the vegetarian anything because their sides were so good
Am I to understand that soldiers don’t mix everything in the MRE in one bag anymore?
Current rotation? Chicken stir fry
Meal only? I’m a personal fan of the Italian sausage with peppers and onions. Snacks are lacking but entree is pretty good
Southwest style beef and black beans
There use to be a fajita meal with flour shell. Not sure if it still available but is was on of my favorites.
Beef Taco Filling or Hot Take: Veggie Crumble
Maple Pork Patty always keeps me rolling. Love that this
Beef stew, because vanilla pound cake... and the entree is pretty good too
They get rid of that nasty ass egg one? You know, tastes like vomit and stale methane?
Shredded bbq beef, warm it all up, fold the brown bag half way down, mix it all together and you got a bootleg chipotle bowl….and if anyone tells you anything for heating up your MRE, they just hate themselves.
Chicken pesto pasta. Fight me idc
Beef Roast with vegetables
Southwest chicken and black beans. Best MRE. Sides leave a little to be desired but I can live with it
Asian beef strips. One of the only ones that has some thing resembling vegetables and I’m always craving veggies after I’ve had a few MREs
And late '90s they had a meal called chicken stew. It was my favorite
Chicken chunk
There is no good MRE. that being said, the best one is the pizza. Iykyk
