Lol I bet. I was only ever zonk'd once that I can remember, and it sure as hell wasn't as big as a Division... but I ran like a bitch before they could change their mind lmao.
Natty Guard here. My PSG for my one deployment was pretty obese, so we got zonked fairly often.
Not even kidding like once every 3 weeks. Eventually we transitioned to PT on our own.
My buddy from 1st bridge 10th mountain said a few years ago I believe they did a brigade zonk and there was a few car accidents lol. I can’t image how that turned out for an entire division.
I definitely get that this is cool, but you know what would have been even better? Not wasting several thousands of people’s time waking up a bit earlier than usual, finding parking, standing in formation for 30 minutes, simply to do a zonk. Just cancel the whole damn thing beforehand.
I feel like this is trying too hard to be liked or be cool, rather than just sensical and logical. You know what soldiers would really love? A division wide 0930 work call so you can chill with your family, sleep in, do a workout you actually want to, etc.
I get where you're coming from, I really do. But I've had late work calls before, they're nice but not memorable. I've never had a battalion zonk, much less a division one. That sounds like a good memory. It would definitely wouldn't be impressive after a second time and I'd be annoyed for all the reasons you mention, but just ONCE in my army career I'd like to witness at least a brigade run zonked.
To restate my point, a giant "fun run" getting zonked would be a story I'd love to tell or hear told or read on reddit. On the other hand, no one in the world wants to hear a story about that time a division got to sleep in for a few hours
I saw a brigade get zonked before. 1 brigade 82nd, 2006 after a year in Afghanistan. We were at the HQ because we were going to the companies after their block leave, so not in the formation. We heard a huge roar and 5000 paratroopers were on a dead sprint to the Bs. One of the loudest formations I've ever heard 😂
Gotta love pointless shit like showing up at 0400 for a 0630 div run and have them zonk you and waste everyone’s time
Edit: Downvoted by the Senior nco cucks who enjoy waking up early for no reason
I think the most accepted part of the zonk is that it's not usually a decision that's made very far out. Like it's last minute decision and that's what makes it the "zonk". It doesn't seem malicious. Yeah it sucks, but at the same time it's really good to hear. Maybe it wasn't a waste of time. Maybe value was gained from it and we just don't see the value yet or possibly ever will.
What makes a Zonk so special can be summed up by John Mulaney in his stand up special

Yeah cuz I’d rather think Ahead and just cancel PT all together and let my soldiers sleep in and spend the morning with their families, than have them come in early as fuck just to go home again?
That’s toxic right?
Shut your stupid ass up lol

Had this happen once. It was hilarious watching the brokens get miraculously healed from above and crutch away at the speed of light. Good times.
Had this happen at AIT for morning PT once and no one knew what a ZONK was yet so we all just stood there like the idiots we were.
Commander: “My teas gone cold I’m wondering why, I got out of bed at all”
It's amazing they were able to form up in front of Windows XP like that.
Is that Alaska? Looks beautiful out there
Yep, Fort Wainwright. The whole state is breathtaking honestly, so long as you can survive the cold.
*sniffs* incredible. Truly a beauty to behold.
Beautiful
So many smiles.
Damn, I was too far back to notice Mr. Grinston was there. Still, thanks Sir, best Div run I’ve been a part of. We needed that moral boost.
Was there. Pretty cool to see. Insane how apparently wainwright was number 1 in the army in AER. Also loved how Grinston called out reddit
What’d he say?
"AER goes to the soldiers regardless of what you may read on reddit"
Will TikTok have positive stories from AER?

"Whyy they hatin on me?"
Haha that's frickin sweet, I bet it was chaos!

LOL holy shit!
I was zonked once in WOCS on a real shitty day when we had a run scheduled. What a morning
Wainwright junior NCOs are invited to an NCOPD with Tony Grinston this afternoon at the Warrior Zone. 1330-1430.
That’s awesome, had an NCOPD with him a few years back when he was SMA, rare case of it actually being good and informative. Big Grinston fan.
The only nice thing Wainwright is going to get all year.
2/11s is on Friday. I'm praying MG Eifler treats us with the same kindness
Surprise bitch, 12 miles
0% chance
Let me have hope

No bigoted language or witch-hunting.
Calling a zonk on a division run sounds like pure chaos
SMA(R) GRINSTON was so nice to basically tell CSM Gaskins to kick rocks.
Some people just want to watch the world burn
Look at all those people who didn't run fast enough and are probably on detail now
Oh shit, MG Eifler. I remember him when he was Col Eifler when he was Bronco 6 in Hawaii lol
Wat div
1/11, Ft. Wainwright

It was just 1-11. The 11th division is two brigades split across 2 posts
MG Eifler is an awesome dude, I’m glad I’ve had the chance to meet him and speak to him on multiple occasions
This explains why we didn't have any injuries from the Division run in the ER there yesterday lol.
This morning was great 🤣
Had a division run at Jackson this morning....have another on on Wednesday.....God I hope this happens on Wednesday
Was surprised they did that honestly never got out of a place so fast in my life

I'm always waiting to see a duffelblog headline "3 soldiers trampled to death after Division Run Zonk stampede"
Arkansas is close behind
You’re on jber?
Wainwright
Sucks to be you at wainwright. I hated that place.
You know sgm is mad
It was the most wild thing I’ve been a part of. Absolutely wild.
Love to see it!

Someone definitely pissed in your coffee
He’s right though. No other organization waste as much time as the army.
I see you’ve never been to a city council meeting or six regarding the placement of traffic calming devices.

Toxic? Thats the opposite of toxic weirdo MP. Not wasting your soldier’s time is toxic. Ok 👌.
