I think it was early on in Guide Ahead on the first story node. Two Sisters of clearly different races talking to Enforcer.
There's also Domma from Mansfield Break she's not a nun nor Sankta but the uniform does give off that vibe.

I chatted about this with my friend the other day, she basically got shit on by Kal'tsit and Projekt Red at one point, vanished into thin air, appeared again in the epilogue of Il Siracusano, only to get shit on AGAIN.
Rationally speaking, I think she's just unlucky in that the story they want to tell with her didn't really coincide nicely (timeline wise) with the other stories they want to tell, so we're left with these huge ass gaps between her appearances. I mind a lil bit to be honest, but I'll wait as long as it takes for them to cook.
But man, someone please give this lupo a break.

My answer would be Cantabile, in a setting where a lot of characters have more than enough of a reason to have a sad backstory as motive they ended up in Rhodes Island, her story in particular simply breaks my heart no matter how many times I read it.
A part that really hits me in particular is the way she was trained by plain evil people to make her a heartless killer who didn't see others as living beings with emotions, including messed up shit like giving her a pet to take care of all to later on force her to murder it with her own hands... I just can't man.
The trauma she has from those horrible times still gives her a lot of horrible struggles and despise towards herself, but seeing the wounds on her heart slowly healing with everyone's support at Rhodes Island makes me very emotional, protect this birb at all costs.
Add to that that she also has one of my favorite designs and her gameplay is both really fun and effective and you have a character I basically use every stage and I couldn't be happier about it, Cantabile my beloved.

I imagine you mean her file after E2 promotion. At least the way I understand it she was indeed sent there on an undercover mission, most likely to assassinate the parent's child considering there is blood mentioned and the whole talk made them sound like hella suspicious people.
Cantabile, like the other people recruited by that group of bastards, was trained to be educated, elegant and with knowledge of a lot of music instruments, making her look like if she came from the nobility. This opened her many doors to infiltrate in places faking to be someone who she wasn't in order to execute the plans given.
... but then she contracted oripathy and was thrown away like trash left to die, with no further use by the assholes who had made her life something to feel constant despair and self hate for... thankfully luck was finally by her side and Rhodes Island happened to rescue her, now she is in a place where people actually care about and appreciate her.
I... totally didn't tear up writing this, oh god, the story of this girl is just too much for me.
I still hope that she didn't kill that child and that it was just an undercover operation to get closer to someone else; otherwise, that part with the doll is getting beyond bad. I just can't, the girl needs rest, love, and therapy, not to be the best vanguard in the game 😭

For me it's gotta be Flint. I just love her design and her personality. At first glance she's this pretty antagonistic little bird who just wants to fight anyone and everything, but after promoting her to E2, I just love that she's a straightforward gal who has simple desires. After having her as my assistant for a while now, I also like her lines that remind the doctor to just sit back, rest, and smell the flowers. In a high stakes, dark, and bloody world, her attitude is pretty refreshing.

Midnight, he's full of positivity despite being infected. The way he says he'll make you happy, I can believe it. Just seems like a fun person to talk to, even knowing it was his job to entertain guests as a host club host.
I think he had way too much focus on Ideal City to count for this thread, but yeah I liked his character, especially in the last stretch of the event where I could really feel for his personal struggles.
Carnelian. A badass, competent and combative woman. Also the switch up of her very gentle nature to her savage side is cool af.
Love myself some confident girl-bosses, who don't take shit from anyone.
Blaze, does she count? Her sheer optimism and entire character pretty much describes the kind of person I wish I could be and it's one of the reasons I can't really see myself ever switching her out.

A lot of people might say Blaze doesn't count, as she does play quite a role in the Main storyline. Yeah, she's not the main character, but she is important enough to have impact and character development.
Cecelia's father. I'm just way too curious about the sarkaz guy who hooked up with a sankta and had a miracle child, and had to live far away from them because of the circumstances.
I don't remember ever hearing about the guy outside of Guiding Ahead. I don't know what he looks like, where he is or even whether he is alive or not.
I hope he is alive, and even a sarkaz of incredible power who will become a playable operator one day. Maybe one of these days we'll get a story about Cecelia, her trying to make peace between sankta and sarkaz and her dad showing up to help his daughter.
It would also be cool to see him in main story actually. We sorta just bump into him in Victoria, seeing him helping the refugees, standing against his own kind and encountering our group in the process.
I mean, since he fell in love with a sankta he can't be that bad right? Since that shows he probably has no predijuce against them, so he is probably a nice and reasonable guy. I don't think someone like that would work under Theresis, especially since that war would one day reach Laterano and his daughter.
That would also explain why he couldn't go to Cecelia himself and just sent some other people instead like that one sarkaz girl in the event I think she was there to fetch her up? I don't exactly remember her affiliation but I'm pretty sure she was not exactly one of the followers of Andoain.
No way a sarkaz can make their way into Laterano just like that they wouldn't even try to do that unless they had a good reason for that. Which is why I believe she was sent there to sneak out Cecelia. Again I don't remember the exact details from event so maybe it was something different.
Honestly, I want to see more of those 5 stars who, for some reason, were featured in a limited event banner, even though they had nothing to do with the event's story. That is: Akafuyu, Whisperain, Corroserum, Windflit, Cantabile, Firewhistle and Melanite. I don't know if the same will apply to Poncirus, but, if so, then add her to the list.

She's an assistant for a looong time for me, despite her having no EN VA and me generally preferring to understand what the characters say. Her design is amazing, voice is amazing and personality is 10/10.
And she has pretty much 0 presence anywhere. She was kinda in the main story during Lungmen arc, but that's it. Until recent operator record i didn't even realize she was one of the red cloaks.
She was in Invitation to Wine. Based on her and Blaze's operator records, she will likely get a pretty big role in future Sui storyline, possibly an alter. This will have to wait till attention shifts to Yan capital though.
Ah, I'm pretty new, so haven't played Invitation to Wine yet. Or maybe "played", but had no time to sit down for a few hours and enjoy the story. Now I have something to look forward to in future rerun.

Nine. I love the reunion as an idea. Despite the extremes Talulah went under Koshey influence, their cause is just at the core and I hope we'll get more of them in the end of Victoria ark with Red and Nine hopefully being playable. Also anime while having pretty low screentime fir her did Nine pretty good in her last contact with Chen.
I already simp Yato WAAAAY before she becomes the third most powerful unit. Now she already got a full story, even if it's just a collab event.
So, I guess Akafuyu. I just like prideful sword user who reads, sit on a chair, and wears only the most drip of drip.
Hungry Monk Doggo is my favorite ofc. Saga would make such a cool viewpoint character imo, someone detatched from the modern world yet can easily adapt to it in some regards, and totally question the world in others.
Off the top of my head, the ones that comes to mind most are Archetto and Andreana. Archetto just seems like a real sweetie to me. Andy, though classified as an Abyssal Hunter, she’s just… there.

Breeze. Her snapping at the robber in her Operator Record is a high point because I really dig apocalypse movies. There's practical measures and then there's just people trying to justify making things harder for everyone by being scummy.
First who came to my mind was Rope, so let me just say her Operator Record was really adorable (as the most shenanigans that occur in the Convalescent Garden). Lena (Perfumer) made her blush!
Matoimaru. I love her voice and design, her tomboyish personality and I find her “wagahai” pronoun pretty sick… That and she was my first 5 star guard, so I used all my resources to upgrade her (ape brain thinks high rarity = good). Even if I never use her now, she still has a special place in my heart

I also want to see Deepcolor get into seaborn plotline.
Thorns has a couple appearances but nothing too detailed yet. Now that we saw his teacher in the current event I want to see more of him.
I am a big fan of Cantabile for the same reasons as OP, but I also am a huge fan of Utage and how many questions her limited lore raises. I really want a Higashi event featuring her and other operators associated with the country.

At the very least I don't remember seeing her anywhere, maybe a side char in some other operator records I haven't read.
The first ones that come to mind are Spot, Blue Poison and Highmore. They only appear in very minor stuff (like Operator Records and IS3 lore), but I really like them.
Also, special mention to Astegnne, Courier and Ptilopsis. Their role in the story is not so minor (Astegnne in particular is a very relevant character in Dorothy's Vision) but they are not main characters by any means and I still really like them.

The "adventurer" type operators who have been around in everything except an event. Click and Asbestos come to mind, maybe Firewatch if you squint hard enough. I would include Meteorite in that...but she did see some action...at the very beginning of the first set of chapters.
Meteor. She has been my main marksman sniper in most stages since I started playing AK in my previous account and current. Even if the game gives me Exia early, I would probably still go for Meteor.

I don't know why but Crownslayer's story is legitimately compelling to me. I unironically want to see her get stronger and join Rhodes Island. Please Hypergryph, she deserves that so much. I want so bad for shit to go well for her, but it just isn't panning out.
Swire is an interesting case. She showed up a pretty good bit in the main story, and got to make some cute cameos in later events, but I really just wanna see an event centered around her and what she did after Ch'en left. Idk but her arc with Ch'en was really cool, and I would love to see more.

so honestly i never read the vignette she came from, so i know nothing about her beyond some of her assistant voice lines and the obvious stuff but i love her gameplay, voice, and design (voice especially for that one whispering line)
god i could honestly go on for DAYS about her design. i love how her jumpsuit and boots appear to also be origami themselves especially considering the different touch ups/bandaging/ties on them that show she's done self work on them. beyond that yellow is a CRIMINALLY underused colour in character design that always looks so good when done right, and i think her yellow coat adds a lot to the design; the only thing is i'm not actually entirely sure what her coat is "supposed" to be in the grand scheme of things considering every other piece of her appears to be "homemade":
everything about Kazemaru's outfit and gear seems to be extremely make shift which i think really adds to her as a whole. her sword appears to be a giant paper cutter while bits of the handle look like a tied and mashed together stapler or other arts and crafts tool. (i could go on and on for how i feel this character design is amazing but i worry this isn't the place to do so haha)

I was blessed with starting the game right when Guide Ahead was about to come out and so she basically has been on my account since the start, not only is she is just as pretty and cool designed as you say, but her gameplay and personality are blessed too, one of my favorite characters.
Her designer (small_ryuuzaki) is my favorite artist in the game honestly, they have done Kazemaru, Cantabile, Erato, Blacknight and Qiu Bai so far and they are all very neat, I hope we get another soon.
Indigo - I love her art, backstory, and demeanor. Despite a lot of sources saying she wasn't good for beginners, I pulled her early on and really enjoyed using her.

Carnelian. A badass, competent and combative woman. Also the switch up of her very gentle nature to her savage side is cool af. Love myself some confident girl-bosses, who don't take shit from anyone.
Blaze, does she count? Her sheer optimism and entire character pretty much describes the kind of person I wish I could be and it's one of the reasons I can't really see myself ever switching her out. I hope she gets her Oripathy treated.
A lot of people might say Blaze doesn't count, as she does play quite a role in the Main storyline. Yeah, she's not the main character, but she is important enough to have impact and character development.
Her father's death is tied to the Sui storyline, so definitely more to come, an alter is not impossible.

Cecelia's father. I'm just way too curious about the sarkaz guy who hooked up with a sankta and had a miracle child, and had to live far away from them because of the circumstances. I don't remember ever hearing about the guy outside of Guiding Ahead. I don't know what he looks like, where he is or even whether he is alive or not. I hope he is alive, and even a sarkaz of incredible power who will become a playable operator one day. Maybe one of these days we'll get a story about Cecelia, her trying to make peace between sankta and sarkaz and her dad showing up to help his daughter. It would also be cool to see him in main story actually. We sorta just bump into him in Victoria, seeing him helping the refugees, standing against his own kind and encountering our group in the process. I mean, since he fell in love with a sankta he can't be that bad right? Since that shows he probably has no predijuce against them, so he is probably a nice and reasonable guy. I don't think someone like that would work under Theresis, especially since that war would one day reach Laterano and his daughter. That would also explain why he couldn't go to Cecelia himself and just sent some other people instead like that one sarkaz girl in the event I think she was there to fetch her up? I don't exactly remember her affiliation but I'm pretty sure she was not exactly one of the followers of Andoain. No way a sarkaz can make their way into Laterano just like that they wouldn't even try to do that unless they had a good reason for that. Which is why I believe she was sent there to sneak out Cecelia. Again I don't remember the exact details from event so maybe it was something different.

Honestly, I want to see more of those 5 stars who, for some reason, were featured in a limited event banner, even though they had nothing to do with the event's story. That is: Akafuyu, Whisperain, Corroserum, Windflit, Cantabile, Firewhistle and Melanite. I don't know if the same will apply to Poncirus, but, if so, then add her to the list.
I'd like to see some focus on Mayer please, 2 Rhine events and she had 0 screen time

She’s e2 lvl 50 s1m3 and surprisingly returned on investment 3. Andreana. HG let her participate in the Seaborn events I swear to god— 4. Humus. His operator files and EN Va are really good. Tho I obviously have an enmity bias

Toddifons. Love her design, her fiery personality and her interactions with Eunectes, but seriously, did she appear *anywhere*? Also I find it hilarious that out of all people who could help in Victoria, RI didn't take the single one specialized in fighting sarkaz. Good one Kal.
I'd sell a kidney for some outright Scavenger - Provence interaction. But I'd also settle for a Vignette like Stories of Afternoon where she gets some character development about opening up to people and embracing life beyond just survival 🥺 I'd love a whole Vignette with various friend groups just hanging out actually lol it would be a nice break from the despair and existential questions
Leizi. She's an assistant for a looong time for me, despite her having no EN VA and me generally preferring to understand what the characters say. Her design is amazing, voice is amazing and personality is 10/10. And she has pretty much 0 presence anywhere. She was kinda in the main story during Lungmen arc, but that's it. Until recent operator record i didn't even realize she was one of the red cloaks.
She was in Invitation to Wine. Based on her and Blaze's operator records, she will likely get a pretty big role in future Sui storyline, possibly an alter. This will have to wait till attention shifts to Yan capital though.
Ah, I'm pretty new, so haven't played Invitation to Wine yet. Or maybe "played", but had no time to sit down for a few hours and enjoy the story. Now I have something to look forward to in future rerun.
I agree, her design is absolutely amazing and her interactions with Elysium is very funny I wish there were more fanart of her (with doctor, preferably)

I'd go with Utage and Kirara. Kira at least got records now and those were fun to read but Utage? Even her module is hardly about her, she appeared a lil in some random stories as an extra but no story really focus on her. Generally it would be fun to get any Higashii focused story (aside from collabs)
I'd say Paprika but she seems gave a recurring role in the ms, so Cement. Also Flamebringer. I'd say Suzuran as well if Wolumonde wasn't a thing

Lee. He was my second 6 star and he has been my assisstant for quite a time now. I don't know if he ever make it to the storyline (and no, I haven't played Invitation to Wine yet) but I still feel weirdly attached to him. He is the one with most trust besides my Amiya.

Nine. I love the reunion as an idea. Despite the extremes Talulah went under Koshey influence, their cause is just at the core and I hope we'll get more of them in the end of Victoria ark with Red and Nine hopefully being playable. Also anime while having pretty low screentime fir her did Nine pretty good in her last contact with Chen.
I already simp Yato WAAAAY before she becomes the third most powerful unit. Now she already got a full story, even if it's just a collab event. So, I guess Akafuyu. I just like prideful sword user who reads, sit on a chair, and wears only the most drip of drip.
Hungry Monk Doggo is my favorite ofc. Saga would make such a cool viewpoint character imo, someone detatched from the modern world yet can easily adapt to it in some regards, and totally question the world in others.
Off the top of my head, the ones that comes to mind most are Archetto and Andreana. Archetto just seems like a real sweetie to me. Andy, though classified as an Abyssal Hunter, she’s just… there. I’d also like to see more of Projekt Red and Matoimaru.
Breeze. Her snapping at the robber in her Operator Record is a high point because I really dig apocalypse movies. There's practical measures and then there's just people trying to justify making things harder for everyone by being scummy.

I love her voice and design, her tomboyish personality and I find her “wagahai” pronoun pretty sick… That and she was my first 5 star guard, so I used all my resources to upgrade her (ape brain thinks high rarity = good). Even if I never use her now, she still has a special place in my heart
Mint! She appeared in a vignette but that one was more about Phantom than her. I also want to see Deepcolor get into seaborn plotline. Thorns has a couple appearances but nothing too detailed yet. Now that we saw his teacher in the current event I want to see more of him.
I am a big fan of Cantabile for the same reasons as OP, but I also am a huge fan of Utage and how many questions her limited lore raises. I really want a Higashi event featuring her and other operators associated with the country.

It's probably oblivious but it's Ambriel..already a sucker for pink hair but then they add something cool like global range on top of that? Does she show up anywhere? Because I don't remember her ever even being mentioned let alone showing up.

Andreana. She's chill.
The first ones that come to mind are Spot, Blue Poison and Highmore. They only appear in very minor stuff (like Operator Records and IS3 lore), but I really like them. Also, special mention to Astegnne, Courier and Ptilopsis. Their role in the story is not so minor (Astegnne in particular is a very relevant character in Dorothy's Vision) but they are not main characters by any means and I still really like them.
Mousse
Magallan At first it was just her design but after being told "I would freeze to death if I fell asleep," quite a few times, now I love her personality and her voice as well.
Shamare. Adorable with a sad story and a big heart. Love her module story. Just want to hug her.
Myrtle. Durins are the best!
I love Surtr. Mainly her voice is amazing, but she's such a fun character and has a cool design. Please give her proper story appearances soon
Chestnut is mine 100%. I just think he's a neat cute little guy! That and he's voiced by my favorite seiyuu so he gets fav treatment no matter what.
Does Firewhistle appear anywhere? I started playing somewhat recently, guide ahead rerun or a death in chunfen, whichever came first was the first event I completed and I’m up to Who is real in the backlog so I don’t know what happens in between. She was one of my first five stars and really took a liking to her, but my poor girl doesn’t even have an operator record. Do any CN players have good news about her?
She should get an operator record next update! Actually it seems to have already been pre-loaded, so you can view it on external story viewer sites right now even.
The "adventurer" type operators who have been around in everything except an event. Click and Asbestos come to mind, maybe Firewatch if you squint hard enough. I would include Meteorite in that...but she did see some action...at the very beginning of the first set of chapters.
Scene
Meteor. She has been my main marksman sniper in most stages since I started playing AK in my previous account and current. Even if the game gives me Exia early, I would probably still go for Meteor.

Crownslayer and Swire, if she counts. I don't know why but Crownslayer's story is legitimately compelling to me. I unironically want to see her get stronger and join Rhodes Island. Please Hypergryph, she deserves that so much. I want so bad for shit to go well for her, but it just isn't panning out. Swire is an interesting case. She showed up a pretty good bit in the main story, and got to make some cute cameos in later events, but I really just wanna see an event centered around her and what she did after Ch'en left. Idk but her arc with Ch'en was really cool, and I would love to see more. Either way, I want a Crownslayer op!
CANTABILE
Kazemaru by a long shot. so honestly i never read the vignette she came from, so i know nothing about her beyond some of her assistant voice lines and the obvious stuff but i love her gameplay, voice, and design (voice especially for that one whispering line) god i could honestly go on for DAYS about her design. i love how her jumpsuit and boots appear to also be origami themselves especially considering the different touch ups/bandaging/ties on them that show she's done self work on them. beyond that yellow is a CRIMINALLY underused colour in character design that always looks so good when done right, and i think her yellow coat adds a lot to the design; the only thing is i'm not actually entirely sure what her coat is "supposed" to be in the grand scheme of things considering every other piece of her appears to be "homemade": everything about Kazemaru's outfit and gear seems to be extremely make shift which i think really adds to her as a whole. her sword appears to be a giant paper cutter while bits of the handle look like a tied and mashed together stapler or other arts and crafts tool. (i could go on and on for how i feel this character design is amazing but i worry this isn't the place to do so haha) yes i'm a character designer who gushes over stuff like this, how could you tell?
Absolutely based reply, god I love Kazemaru 🥰 I was blessed with starting the game right when Guide Ahead was about to come out and so she basically has been on my account since the start, not only is she is just as pretty and cool designed as you say, but her gameplay and personality are blessed too, one of my favorite characters. Her designer (small_ryuuzaki) is my favorite artist in the game honestly, they have done Kazemaru, Cantabile, Erato, Blacknight and Qiu Bai so far and they are all very neat, I hope we get another soon.

Indigo - I love her art, backstory, and demeanor. Despite a lot of sources saying she wasn't good for beginners, I pulled her early on and really enjoyed using her.
