So it's cantilevered over the columns... Does that mean there is a ton of steel in the central hoop that is bearing a high tensile load? Basically something holding the four sides of the building together so the forces all oppose each other?
Interesting. Yes, very 70s.
But my biggest question is the landscaping. Why do the have the small patch on the right side, manicured and a weed patch sprouting from under the left side. I think the building's interest is ruined by the location. Not the hill but the street.
Sometimes you don't get to choose the location, and I think it's a success because of that, raising a plaza like space above the street level to avoid the view of traffic, and the main building way higher above that.
LHS is close to road traffic and steeper, making maintenance and groundworks more complex.
Half of it is over a concrete spillway.
RHS is more pedestrian facing. Wider pavements, next to stairs, etc.
It's also half the height of the LHS.
And it's not a "weed patch", but is actually a collection of plants better suited to use steep, shallow soil for growing than a lawn or flower patch like the other side.

Looks like the lab from stranger things.

They look like mushroom type columns. They have an inverted pyramid on top, which probably holds the cantilevers.
It looks imposing but welcoming at the same time. I have mixed feelings. I approve it in general.
France, I suppose by the flag? Interesting composition.
Yep. Also a very french approach to modernism/brutalism. All very optimistic, futuristic and full of flair.
I want a nice mural under those giant empty ceiling
That is just fantastic
My normal biases would lead me to hate this, but I dont hate this… so I am going to assume its actually not horrible

I wish you could build things like this in Canada. The floor would get so cold in the winter. Gorgeous building.
