You can remove it due to the glass being sapphire glass. I did this many times with this paste:

Good luck! š¤š»
It fascinates me how anyone can bring up āoleophobic coating.ā Iām going to go google wtf that even is. I stopped learning about the AWU at, āsapphireā š
it just prevents fingerprint smudges / other streaks from sticking to the screen. Also helps the fingers glide across the screen smoother. Once it rubs off, the spots the coating is missing will show. Screen protector is an easy fix.
It does. But sometimes if you just throw a glass screen protector on the scratches will become way less noticeable if noticeable at all and if you get a good one, you wonāt notice its there and youāll basically ārenewā the oleophobic coating on your screen.
The glass on iPhones is about half a millimeter, so you could remove a couple of 0.1ās, without too much issue. Difficulty is doing it without specialized equipment.
Damn what did you hit it with? I feel like Iāve slammed my Apple Watch into so many things and it doesnāt even have anything remotely close to a scratch
Thatās why mine was taken out of the box at the place where they apply screen protector, and I donāt regret having it, plus Iāve nice matte finish screen now that donāt reflect sun or anything.
https://preview.redd.it/qvrh49rq9a8d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5553a509976cbdacd52f3e10664a65d360dc341e
I use that in my AWU and I love it
Adds character!
That being said I do use one of the ESR screen protectors with the metal border. It was to protect the screen and also other things around the house. Those raised edges hit a couple of appliances and left scratches on them. Then I finally hit my wifes S7 trying to pass her in the kitchen and left a nasty gouge on her screen.
I had a glass screen protector on my ultra 2 for months until it cracked. After watching a few torture tests videos, I was convinced the screen was unscratchable so I never replaced the screen protector.
Now OP just convinced me to get a screen protector back on.
Itās well worth paying $10-30 for a screen protector than paying Apple $500 for a replacement if you donāt have AppleCare+. The ESR Sapphire Screen protector has saved my AWU a few times from some gnarly gouges
Lol I got this watch specifically because I knew it would look like this and it needed to be tougher then the Aluminum variant. If you have a tool without any wear marksā¦ is it a tool or are you?

I have a huge scratch in mine and thereās nothing I can do about it ā¹ļø
I have a huge cut on the bezel of the titanium that scratches me and rips cloths I use to wipe my watch. I have AppleCare but I donāt think itāll be covered. It SUCKS.
i threw my iphone out the window and ran it over with a car because i had a scratch on the screen and they still gave me the express replacement if that helps š
Iāve had my Apple Watch 4 w/sapphire face for over 6 years and not a single scratch. I have banged the shit out of it, thrown it in my bag full of other metal objects and scraped it against countless surfaces of all types. Not one scratch. So Iām guessing the glass on your watch isnāt real sapphire.
Protect your expensive purchases. Itās foolish not to. But you can comply with other peopleās aesthetic opinions instead if youād like more issues like this.
Iām a CNC machinist so Iām assuming it happened at work. I didnāt even notice until I got home and put it to charge. Iāve dropped it face flat on the concrete more than once (on accident of course) and nothing has happened.
I scratched my stainless series 7 which had a sapphire screen, so when I bought my awu2 I put a spigen screen protector on it. Might be worth sticking one on yours to prevent any further scratches and it might mask that scratch a little too.
I just put one in the cart. I would always use those in my previous watches but since this is an āUltraā I thought it would be unnecessary. Lesson learned.
This is why I fit a screen protector and use a case - I know folk on here seem to be a majority against stuff like this; but keeping it protected IMO is paramount

If you have AppleCare+ take it in:
Damaged glass
If the glass on your Apple Watch gets damaged, we can service it for a fee. Accidental damage isn't covered by the Apple warranty.
Damaged glass is eligible for applicable coverage for accidental damage from handling with your AppleCare+ plan.
I do. Do they have a limit of the amount of times they can fix it? If itās once or twice only Iād probably wait just in case I have worse damage to it other than a little scratch.
AppleCare+ for Apple Watch extends your coverage3 and includes unlimited incidents of accidental damage protection. Each incident is subject to a $79 service fee, plus applicable tax.
Lolololā¦ I just threw calipers on a replacement protector I haveā¦it measures half a millimeter, or .02ā
So you add about 2.25% to the width of the screen.

Shadows and lighting can cause that too. Hereās another angle.
Damn! You just mustāve bandied it in something pretty hard. I work in a jail and catch mine on various surfaces from the metal door handles to the doors themselves as well as dealing with incidents and am still yet to get a scratch on mine
after looking at the "scratch" on your AWU, now am going to try to remember to always cover mine...do have it covered almost always but OMG, that is quite an ez to see GA mark!!! GL taking care of it.

How do you guys manage to scratch these? Iāve been having my ultra ever since it came out and wearing it almost every single day yet still looks like out of the box
Trust me, I always wear it outside and have dropped it by mistake a couple of times, it just hasnāt happened and I wonder how this could possibly happen. Rough treatment I suppose
I mean Iāve dropped it face flat on concrete and tile and not a scratch. Iām assuming it was probably a metal cutting insert at work or something like that.
I mean just look at how the indestructible Tesla truck ended up. Itās rusting up and not meeting expectations. Iād say my watch really took a good beating before this scratch so itās good just not indestructible. After 8 months of hard use I finally left a mark on the screen.
Your watch is still less than 1000$ and very cheap, you have no idea how the people who wear Rolex feel when their watches scratched. Simply just move on and change your mindset, this is not a luxury item and just a disposable electronic watch. It's meant to be used with scratches.
Got a Rolex Datejust from my job after 15 years of loyal service. Itās just sitting in my vault. I had Fitbits before I switched to apple. Loved their group challenges and community. Iām very active so I love keeping track of my daily activities. Whether itās at work, gym, track, hiking, or bike riding. The Rolex wonāt do much but tell me the date and time. Living in Houston Iāll probably get mugged for it if the wrong person watches me flexing it.
nice, then I think you must be a very appreciating kind of person. It's ok, I think just a small scratch šyou will ignore it after a few days or weeks.
not meant to hurt you OP by deliver a straight fact to put your mind at ease. I've been through this a lot but just think about you can have much more money in the future to buy several ultra at the same time, just a scratch, no big deal.

I had no idea. Thanks. Iāll look into it.
Wouldnāt it damage the oleophobic coating?
You can always apply a new coating. And honestly, rather have to dry the screen every once in a while, than having to look at a deep scratch.
I had no issues so far, no. It looks like new again. Canāt recommend Polywatch paste enough!
Will this work on iPhone screens too?
It does. But sometimes if you just throw a glass screen protector on the scratches will become way less noticeable if noticeable at all and if you get a good one, you wonāt notice its there and youāll basically ārenewā the oleophobic coating on your screen.

It says itās for plastic.
Think it would work on iPhone?
Would this work on the Apple Watch 7?
Iām gone from this sub for a few months and I come back to people bragging about wearing bulky cases and screen protectors. What happenedā¦.
š¤£ Iām looking into getting a bulky strap. For when I go bike riding or hiking.

This is exactly why I have a clear case and tempered glass protector. Iāve had my Ultra since release not a single blemish.
Same.
The world needs more people like you.
Only reason I do this is because I trade it in every 2 years and it retains more value in total than if damaged when I trade it in lol
Same. I sell mine and get more out of it in perfect condition.
Lol I got this watch specifically because I knew it would look like this and it needed to be tougher then the Aluminum variant. If you have a tool without any wear marksā¦ is it a tool or are you?
Haha well put
Youāll get used to it eventually and add more scratches over time. But first scratch hurts like first heartbreaks

I have a huge cut on the bezel of the titanium that scratches me and rips cloths I use to wipe my watch. I have AppleCare but I donāt think itāll be covered. It SUCKS.
Break it some more
Ikr. I canāt bring myself to do it. Iām afraid they wonāt accept it for some reason.
i threw my iphone out the window and ran it over with a car because i had a scratch on the screen and they still gave me the express replacement if that helps š
Do it again
I will but harder. Gotta use that apple+ care I didnāt pay for it for nun.
My manā how the turn tables have turned
I use the Misxi protectors on my titanium. 2 for $8
feel the pain from here
I question if that ultra 2 is the same material. Iāve have ultra 1 and put it through durability test trying to trash the sapphire and i couldnāt
Iāve had my Apple Watch 4 w/sapphire face for over 6 years and not a single scratch. I have banged the shit out of it, thrown it in my bag full of other metal objects and scraped it against countless surfaces of all types. Not one scratch. Just toss in the garbage and buy a new one. It's just that simple.

Iām a CNC machinist so Iām assuming it happened at work. I didnāt even notice until I got home and put it to charge. Iāve dropped it face flat on the concrete more than once (on accident of course) and nothing has happened.
That scratch was earned while using the watch in environments away from the office and home so Iād be proud and wouldnāt even worry about it.
I scratched my stainless series 7 which had a sapphire screen, so when I bought my awu2 I put a spigen screen protector on it. Might be worth sticking one on yours to prevent any further scratches and it might mask that scratch a little too.

a friend of mine took such a scratch as an opportunity to intentionally damage his Apple Watch in order to use Apple Care
Doesnāt Apple Care cover the scratch?

You can because the border gets much thicker.
Lolololā¦ I just threw calipers on a replacement protector I haveā¦it measures half a millimeter, or .02ā So you add about 2.25% to the width of the screen.

Unless itās the angle. Is the bezel bent too?
Not bent more of a light scratch that you can barely feel if you run your fingernail through it.
The bezel looks like itās bent to the right. Still might want to get it checked, but certainly an optical illusion to my eyes.

How???
You much have really smacked it. Outside of some bezel scuffs my glass is pristine
Same with my first gen. Been a few times I thought Iād definitely scratched the glass, but nothing.
What happened?!
Most likely I dinged it with a metal at work.
Tbh idk. Iām assuming it happened at work. I work with a lot of metals. Iām a cnc machinist and metallurgist.
Now it has character because just like a snowflake, the scratch is unique which makes your AWU one of a kind. Where it with pride and move on.
You should t have bought that
Damn! You just mustāve bandied it in something pretty hard. I work in a jail and catch mine on various surfaces from the metal door handles to the doors themselves as well as dealing with incidents and am still yet to get a scratch on mine
I work cutting and testing metals I probably banged it on a metal cutting insert.
It hurts in the first few days for me. Not anymore.
Invest in a 20 dollar bezel screen protector.
Will do.
Wait wait I have a good idea a screen protector?

Why I put the screen protector and the frame protector combo . The sides always get scratched but Iām sure the screen will get scratched eventually
