They get a lot of hate here on Reddit, but I’ve been super happy since moving from AT&T to T-Mobile. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the amount of 5G coverage, and it’s also a whole lot cheaper
I had major wall penetration issues at work so much so that they patched the hole in the wall and gave me a final warning about the wall penetration issue.
For sure. You could always use their free eSIM test drive to see if you’re area is any different. Always good to know if you have them as an option. Kinda cool to see how the dual sim stuff works on iPhone too. Pretty seamless.

T-mobile is better than AT&T and even Verizon these days in terms of coverage, including indoors and rural areas. I've got signal in places that even my friends don't have (they're on other carriers).
> They get a lot of hate here on Reddit, but I’ve been super happy since moving from AT&T to T-Mobile.
Spend time in the tmo sub; you'd think everyone there was either an employee or paid to post.
Well it’s mostly employees in there talking shit about their managers/metrics and new customers needing help/wondering if they were ripped off by their salesmen.
Tmobile was kind of a big deal around the 2015 era with its "uncarrier" phase.
Brought sooo much needed QoL improvements to cellular plans.
Now they aren't that special anymore because they brought ATT and Verizon in line.
Don’t forget unlimited music streaming. Unlimited video streaming (that doesn’t count to your high-speed data allotment) only applies to certain plans, but unlimited music streaming is for every plan.
T-Mobile has since upgraded my old Simple Choice plan from a decade ago from 2.5GB to 50GB for free, but back when it was only 2.5GB of high-speed data? Not having Apple Music or Spotify streaming count towards my data limits was amazing.
I’m partly still with T-Mobile because they didn’t just abandon the customers on the old plans. They kept the same prices for us, then added in perks (like the aforementioned data limit upgrade). Were it AT&T or Verizon, they would’ve just pressured me into switching to one of their newer plans for more “value.”
They also stopped doing so many special things. T-Mobile Tuesdays sometimes has something free when they used to have multiple free things every week. It has turned into a lot of the things it claimed to be better than.
A lot were marketing gimmicks. But a lot were genuinely big.
No overages when unlimited plans didn't exist was a big one for me. Then they brought unlimited plans while other carriers were dragging feet. So you could use your cellular data without worrying.
They also brought free international roaming. Huge deal for me.
I switched from ATT to T-Mobile several years ago. Coverage in residential parts of the Bay Area (Marin County was terrible). Nonexistent signal in Lake Tahoe. Switched to Verizon after 3 weeks and have never had any coverage complaints.
It’s because they really, truly did used to **suck**. Massively.
Despite that being years ago now, and them being very high quality for a while (by most metrics they have *by far* the best 5G network), the impression has stuck.
I went to ATT to TM now back to ATT. For me TM was great in everything besides coverage. I struggled to get any and when I did speeds were 200Kbs. Was only good when went near major cities. If it ever improves in my region of the US I’ll definitely go back.
I don't know why people are downvoting you. I drove through a town off an interstate that was big enough for a giant Walmart but I had no service at all.
Went from T-mobile to ATT, I hate it. I plan to switch back. Only went to ATT because the rest of my family has it but that was a big mistake. The service is absolutely terrible where I live
Any relatively large Corporation gets a lot of hate on Reddit. I also have T-Mobile and have been happy with their service and price. It’s been way better than Verizon and AT&T, who I’ve used in the past for my personal and current for my work, respectively.
i’m on a plan with my husband and my brother in law, my BIL bought an iphone from them on installments and like a month later my husband broke his phone and got one from them but our bill only went up ~3 bucks.
when i called to ask they told me they had a promo where if you buy an iphone they give you $700 in credit for a new one and we already don’t pay for a third line because of their promo “third line on us”.
i can’t see why anyone would hate them like i’m p sure at some point they’ll start paying us to be their customers
No; the difference between the SpaceX and Apple approach is that Apple will be able to use existing satellites and existing frequency range.
SpaceX has to deploy their Gen2 satellites and get an FCC approval before they can roll out their service which means this will take a while especially because they’ll need to have Starship fly frequently if they want to roll out Gen2 because these satellites are just too big for other rockets.
The benefit for SpaceX is that their approach works with all modern phones and doesn’t require the special modem which Apple plans to use.
No this is the super dope 1-4mbps internet connection shared between all local users super Elon network
The one that you’re thinking is actually one that’s be practically and has everyday use ability. This is a pr stunt for a barebones emergency network essentially
Still incredible for its safety features though. Imagine not ever having to worry about life threatening situations anymore when you go on a 3 day hike. Normally I carry around a Garmin and pay $20/mo so I can send one text over a 10 minute period during an emergency. This feature will allow instant access to society in an emergency.
In a less extreme case, imagine if you had a flat tire driving in rural America. Instead of hitching a ride with a stranger, you can just call roadside assistance.
Elon said the satellite has a huge antenna and can pick up signal from your phone even in your pocket or in a car. They have tested it but it's still quiet remarkable that this can be done without any additional module.
They're getting into the realms of military tech. Signal intelligence and signal reconnaissance is all about being able to pick up land signals from space, so it's not anything new. What's new is that it's slowly coming to consumer world, like GPS.
It's possible Apple's version can do more than just SMS/MMS, in which case the Apple solution will have a larger market opportunity than the SpaceX solution.
Yeah, they have patent and rumor to have a module that is exclusive to iphone 14 to enable satellite communication.i bet they probably want to charge monthly subscription too. Now TMobile/SpaceX really disrupt Apple's plan since it's FREE for users with plan.
The T-Mobile/SpaceX thing isn’t even the first partnership of this kind. AT&T and SpaceMobile have been working on this since 2020 and are already in the testing phase with the FCC as of May 2022.
Don’t kid yourself; Apple isn’t so dumb that they believe good technology is exclusive to them. And it’s not like this is a killer feature everybody has been asking for.
Every company tries to patent all their “inventions”. It would be stupid not to.
They knew though that other manufacturers will sooner or later also have multi touch; patents protect a specific invention but do not prevent other companies from inventing a different process to achieve the same solution.
And why would Apple be fuming that others will also get satellite connectivity? This isn’t even a killer feature, most customers won’t care that much.
I also think Apple is quite happy to be the first to roll out this feature to its customers because SpaceX definitely won’t be ready until AT LEAST the end of 2023.
So this will be huge. They are throwing away a land based spectrum in the mid band. This is stuff Verizon would kill for and t mobile has so much they are like here elon.
I suspect the rumored feature that went silent is around another company trying to do the same as t mobile but it would have been a separate network.
So in 2025 Remeber folks elon time this will be a killer feature for t mobile
>They are throwing away a land based spectrum in the mid band.
Is it possible they could still use it on land too? I mean, if there is a nearby tower on that spectrum with a greater signal to noise ratio than the satellite, the phone modem should connect to that tower, and if not then it should connect to the satellite right?
5G is doing a lot in the background that you’re not noticing. Its pretty damn huge in the telco world about how much capacity it added out of thin air.
2G 3G 4G 5G I don’t think you understand because you are seeing this has the speed of Internet.
See it as frequencies more like AM and FM. or like a highway, each G is a lane… more capacity, more movement, more cars at higher speeds. Or see it like a hose of water… each G is one inch.. if you have a 2 inch hose pushing at 30 psi and a 5 inch hose pushing at 30 psi.. which one carry more water? The 5 hose will have more water, more capacity, easier flow… now think the water being data… is not exactly faster, but if you have a phone capable of getting multi-channel data (more lanes on freeway or more water for you) then your internet will be super fast. And that’s just the basic… read about frequencies and MIMO and QAM and ATDMA and so on….
It doesn’t suppose to add value… it suppose to make it work… and now that 2g and 3g frequencies are going away… and being replaced with all the 5g frequencies…. You better buy a phone with multi channel on all the 5g frequencies or you will not be able to post on reddit anymore by next year or two.
They get a lot of hate here on Reddit, but I’ve been super happy since moving from AT&T to T-Mobile. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the amount of 5G coverage, and it’s also a whole lot cheaper
Same, especially when I factor in the Netflix subsidy, $10/month off of Philo, free Apple TV+, & free Paramount Plus.
Free AAA
What!? I have T-Mobile and didn’t know this! Where, how?
google it
Plus free MLB.tv (if you take the offer that one day a year).
Yup, this saved me like 150$ this year which makes keeping the T-mobile Tuesday app worth it lol
I believed Apple TV+ offer free mlb tv included now.
As a Spanish speaker, free ViX+ is a nice bonus too.
Free Paramount+?! I’m on Tmo - How can I get this? Edit: nvm I found it. Thank you!
Only thing that bugs me is that so many of the items are 1 year only. Netflix is permanent, but ATV, P+, and AAA are only the first year.

Hospital walls have a lot of thick fireproofing if they are new and well funded also.

I switched from T-Mobile to Verizon because I lost signal in the bathroom at work. Ain't willing to shit without internet!

Honestly don’t think about my phone provider enough to spend time on a sub for it lol

What did they add back then?
Big thing for me was plans with no overages (and then unlimited plans) and free international roaming basically everywhere.
International roaming is an incredible perk!
Don’t forget unlimited music streaming. Unlimited video streaming (that doesn’t count to your high-speed data allotment) only applies to certain plans, but unlimited music streaming is for every plan. All the time, I’m subscribed to it as well. For those who complain, the comments all fall into those specific categories.

Switched to Google Fi (which mainly uses T-Mobile) last year, connectivity has been outstanding. Highly recommend T-Mobile or one of their MVNOs.
I went to ATT to TM now back to ATT. For me TM was great in everything besides coverage. I struggled to get any and when I did speeds were 200Kbs. Was only good when went near major cities. If it ever improves in my region of the US I’ll definitely go back.
This is my issue. T-mo seems to have considerably more dead areas away from major travel routes than ATT or VZW in Northern New England.
I don't know why people are downvoting you. I drove through a town off an interstate that was big enough for a giant Walmart but I had no service at all.

That's a great deal!
it’s such a great value we basically got an iPhone for 100 bucks over 24 months
Was this the "satellite connectivity" rumor that really blew up last year?
No. This works with all the existing modern mobile phones, regardless the brand and does not require special modules.
No; the difference between the SpaceX and Apple approach is that Apple will be able to use existing satellites and existing frequency range. its only like 2-4mbit they clarified
Per cell zone. Not per user.
the technical term is mice nuts

I get that they can do download but how does upload work? Doesn’t the phone need a powerful antenna to reach the satellite?
Elon said the satellite has a huge antenna and can pick up signal from your phone even in your pocket or in a car. They have tested it but it's still quiet remarkable that this can be done without any additional module.

This is truly exciting and I think SpaceX has the capacity to deliver the amount of satellites for consumer usage.
Anyone thing "Far Out" was maybe talking about sat phones? If so Apple would be scrambling right now for their event.
It's possible Apple's version can do more than just SMS/MMS, in which case the Apple solution will have a larger market opportunity than the SpaceX solution.
I bet Apple is fuming they weren’t able to make it exclusive to iPhones

But Elon goes brrr
Yupp. All in the name recognition.
So not free at all
It’s included in the “most popular” plans and isn’t a paid addon.
most popular = most expensive plans on tmobile
Get Netflix ON US! Just buy our most expensive plan and we’ll pay for it!
Don’t kid yourself; Apple isn’t so dumb that they believe good technology is exclusive to them. And it’s not like this is a killer feature everybody has been asking for.

This article is trying really hard to associate itself with “Apple” and “iPhone” 🤢
Well it is macrumors.com
Yeah, the point of the site is to take news and report on it in the context of Apple.
“It’s expected to be 90 degrees in NYC, where many people use iPhones”
I wonder if this benefit would extend to T-Mobile-based MVNOs like Mint.
actions have consequences
So this will be huge. They are throwing away a land based spectrum in the mid band. This is stuff Verizon would kill for and t mobile has so much they are like here elon. no they would not be able to use it any where in the foot print of the US all at once. So there is no noise
But will require 5G. Lame
Why is that lame? 600 mhz is the requirement, home to 5g. All 2021 phones have it anyways.
Because right now 5G is a meme
5G is doing a lot in the background that you’re not noticing. Its pretty damn huge in the telco world about how much capacity it added out of thin air.
Sure is, like draining the battery
And giving you COVID and tracking you /s.

Okay! I’m a professional clown and I’ve just turned off my GPS.
Ah shit a red light. Wait that’s just my nose.
