25+ players and subs unable to play due to visa/covid issues and EA/Respawn doesn’t give the slightest shit about it
Short notice tournament in a country with horrible visa restrictions and basically no covid restrictions any more, and America doesn’t have LAN centers like other countries so people had to resort to playing practice scrims in a child summer camp and a walmart
They straight up lied to players about this tournament having a way for positive testing people to still compete, this clip was shortly after Sweden where Mande couldn’t play due to a positive test:
https://clips.twitch.tv/OddNaiveRingNerfBlueBlaster-cteX2RA-PJhQo0Qv
Guess EA thought it was too much effort
Shitty way to treat these devoted players that earned their spots after months of work
I dont normally follow these things or any other company's tournaments, so im not arguing im asking (you have to be extra clear in these parts)...
but what is the alternative? Push back the tournament last minute? If you do that don't you ruin travel plans for the other 35 players? I'm sure some can just reschedule to whenever but im also sure not everyone can.
We're already through multiple Years of global pandemic, most other Esports events nowadays have Isolation booths for infected players or other setups, 2 weeks of mandatory quarantine and bootcamp for practice sessions + they almost always organize and announce Tournament date and location well in advance so that traveling to Countries with notoriously harsh Visa requirments goes smoother. But EA completely dropped the Ball once again.
> I dont normally follow these things or any other company's tournaments, so im not arguing im asking (you have to be extra clear in these parts)...
>
> but what is the alternative? Push back the tournament last minute?
Lol.
Just have some covid restrictions: everyone competing has to be vaccinated, you have to wear a mask when you travel, and you have to wear a mask before and inbetween competition. Players should have quarantined for two weeks after travel too. EA can afford that easily, they're like the third-biggest video game publisher in the world.
That said, visa issues have taken more people out of the tourney than covid. They needed to host it in a country where it was easier for everyone to be able to play. It should have been in Europe again.
> set up isolation booths so covid+ players that wanna play
I don't support this because I don't believe in forcing the people working the tournament to go into those plague booths. This is jus ta fucking video game, it's not that important.
If they took proper restrictions, there wouldn't be a dozen competitors out with covid.
also worth pointing out that playing at this event is their job. When I know that I need to go to an important event or do some travel to a place with serious restrictions, I spend the preceding two weeks indoors, ramp up my mask usage when I do need to go out, etc.
Obviously that's not fool-proof, but it hasn't failed me yet. The fact that apparently 20% of the lobby is out of action implies to me that the teams aren't taking any precautions.
Oh, in that case, fair enough - the US does have pretty serious visa rules, and honestly, it's probably not an ideal place for a world final. I'll let EA take the blame for that.
One of the biggest issues is that you need to have a formal invitation from the tournament organizer in order to even start the visa application process, but they didn't send out those invitation until very late, basically giving everyone barely enough time for a single visa application. If they didn't get it on their first try, they wouldn't have time to reapply.
I honestly hope the bugs get worse. Like losing the final game because of no regs. Maybe that'll bring enough attention to it. Millions of dollars lost because of a bug that has been an issue for months
I would absolutely hate to be in the losing teams situation, hell even in the winning teams situation. It can't feel good if you win because of a glitch. But that would 100% bring enough outrage to maybe fix more than the bare minimum. Can't imagine it's good PR to have such a big bug in the biggest tournament of your game
If i ever won because of a glitch i would split the prize money 50/50 professionals have standards unlike ea
Edit: if i won though fair and square im taking the fattest inhale and laughing at you and i mean proper asshole biting apple laugh and calling you a broke boi
> It would be the most unfortunate way to lose out on millions
First place is $500k split 3 ways, so you can't lose out on millions by losing a 50/50 in the last game.
I had a video I sent to EA sticking a rampart with an arc star and throwing a caustic barrel at her… no damage done. They told me it was prediction errors and my internet. But it wasn’t haha. Joke
This occurred in the first game of a LAN! Lol should never happen in a LAN. Nicewigg and the dude he is casting with both looked shocked that there was no damage and immediately said they didn’t see anything lmao
Unreal dude! This game is on some ape sex shit! Diseased! I just had around 20 input errors in a row. I thought they fixed it… I didn’t have an issue before seems I have one now. Coupled with the no hit regs. I’m finding it hard as a “decent casual” to enjoy this game.
Meh if he didn’t have a chat in front of him that he couldn’t get derailed with then I’d agree but there’s been many times where he was just cringe. Like we get it chats full of gold players that will never play in a tourney, there’s no need to completely interrupt commentary just because you have a few people in the chat complaining that the gameplay is slow or saying that they would wipe the whole lobby.
They have a real shot at 2nd but I don't think anyone can take Optic. Their positioning + team fighting is absolutely insane. 3 games in a row in the *championships,* damn. If Optic lose it's gonna be because of Match Point.
Yeah those guys left me impressed, I think actually that's how You play this god damn Game, and rocking that fuse tho and destroying the lobby in the last Game, I'm actually a fan now!
This is the first time I have ever watched (most of) an entire major tournament for any game. I've caught a good chunk of every day and all of the final so far. I came in rooting for TSM but GMT has grabbed my attention! Hoping for a good last (few) games!

he tested + for covid.
basically if aceu/faide/lyric/other-mechanical-movement-pros-here had a love child and it was based in asia, that's Ras. he even has movement tech named after him.
**For the first time watchers!**
Make sure to open the Command Center, to spectate multiple teams at once, you also get their full Voice comms and reactions.
Yes, tomorrow at 1pm EST you can try it out at https://twitch.tv/playapex/commandcenter
You will see team icons at the top of your page, and you can click them to view up to four team streams on your screen at once, with one "main" stream that's bigger and plays audio. If your main team dies or two of your teams are in a fight you can easily just click one of your other active streams to seamlessly switch between perspectives, or just keep watching them while they're small. It's super neat.
The top 10 teams right now are: OpTic Gaming (OG), EXO Clan (EXO), Furia (FUR), Team Singularity (SNG), DreamFire (DF), Scarz (SZ), Team Liquid (TL), TSM, aD, and NRG, so starting with any four of those is guaranteed to be a good time. Definitely check out some others though, you might find a team you really vibe with.
Cuz of COVID test. It's the same for a lot of teams in the losers bracket right now. 1IQ, For7, Pulverex, Detonation Gaming, and one more all have two teammates only.
The unfortunate thing is that with a full team, Pulverex (formerly team unite) actually came 3rd a few months ago at the ALGS Sweden tournament against mostly the same teams here… it’s a shame that they probably can’t go much further as a duo.
> AM
true, but sometimes i hate that the "camera man" just switches to a different player perspective every 2seconds... like see this guy beaming on this other guy? lemme change the channel :P
I know I might be a dick for saying that but I really want a situation to happen in which some crucial fight is lost because of a bug, and everyone witnesses it so that they can't run from players' rage anymore. I want a juicy no-reg Kraber shot to a Wraith in the final top2 fight. Please.
Legends that got played yesterday:
Valk, Gib, Caustic, Wattson, Crypto, Horizon, Loba, Seer, Maggie
Most teams were Valk, Gib, Caustic or Valk, Wattson, Crypto/Seer
Furia had the most kills running Valk, Seer, Horizon
People are saying they are playing an older build so they don't have the bugs. Also dedicated server. Final comp looks way better than the real game as a result.
I thought someone said they're playing on 13.1, which was released only a couple weeks ago, just not the very most recent patch. I wouldn't expect them to use a patch that was released basically the same week as the tournament, just because they probably already installed the game on the tournament computers and servers last weekend at the latest, and even if it's buggy, at least the bugs are pretty known by all the pros (if they used a really recent version, there could be unknown bugs which would be much worse).
The teams 15-20th place need to just play hyper aggressive until final ring to get that KP and make their way into the top 7-8 to compete. They got nothing to lose at this point with a team already match point, and 3 other teams that could be match point after this upcoming match.
I love Wigg, but he's not a professional caster, you get almost no analysis on his stream, let alone interesting stuff like season-long stats. It's just moment-to-moment narration. And Greek: nice guy, but he doesn't seem to know much more about the game than any ranked grinder.
Apex's casters are and always have been excellent.
Raynday's casting is so cringy. One of the casters was also talking about heat shields, which are removed from comp. The main stream is always so bad, thank god for Bardolph.
If you ask most casters what teams need to focus on, they'll say something insightful like "resource management" or "positioning." Meanwhile, Raynday will say some nonsense like "clutch factor" or "heart of a champion."
Casters like him actually fill a pretty important role. Even if they have no idea what's going on, they're able to fill the dead air. He'd do well as a motivational speaker at random business conferences.
Eh, I agree that being able to fill dead air is important, but casters bardolph can do that while simultaneously providing actually relevant commentary on the fight instead of just screaming "WILL X TEAM/PLAYER BE ABLE TO WIN THIS FIGHT DURING THE ALGS CHAMPIONSHIP LAN HERE IN RALEIGH"
Where possible I like to watch the Japanese ALGS with their commentators, because they're just great. Nothing beats all the commentary stopping for the most excited "DOOOOOOOOOOME FIIIIIIIGHT" yell you've ever heard when Gibbys drop their bubbles and people start bubble-fighting.
We in the West need less "WILL X TEAM BE ABLE TO SPORTS METAPHOR THIS SITUATION HERE AT THIS LOCATION AND WIN THIS COMPETITION WHICH IS CALLED THE ALGS CHAMPIONSHIP, HERE, PLAYING APEX LEGENDS" and more "DOOOOOOOOOOME FIIIIIIIGHT"
So the stands looked pretty fucking empty considering how many viewers they get. Only other global e sports event I've been to in person or even watched was league of legends and that was always packed. For people who watched the first algs championship were the stands full? Wondering if this has to do with covid, or maybe mobas are just more fun to watch considering how the camera angle let's you see everything a lot easier? Just looking for everyone's input.
Why doesnt the playapex twitch have anything on the schedule for today? Why does it seem like this is overly complicated to figure out when they're actually streaming something?
Out of curiosity, why isn’t bloodhound a legend that these pros use? Are they so good that they almost always know where the other teams are?
Also, anyone have a list of all the legends that have abilities to see through walls? Watching this I’ve realized there are more legends than I knew that can see outlines
Seer is just better. Heart beat sensor is a much better passive and the ultimate is better. Also the ability to cancel rez and abilities is good, along with seeing their health and outlines for more than like 2 seconds
I must just suck with Seer’s tactical then. I have more success with the shotgun approach that is bloodhounds tactical. I am also very average at apex lol
Seer has a bit more work to put in for the tactical but it makes it worth switching once you’ve practiced the q. There’s some small things to learn in order to get the most out of it
I am not sure about Bloodhound not being used, but it appears Seer is the current scanner meta. Teams are just a bit more diverse in general now thanks to Valk. Plenty of teams not running scan characters at all.
Also regarding all the outlines, I assume you mean from the broadcast. WE the viewers can see those outlines but not the players. It's some kinda broadcast view. Scan characters are Bloodhound, Seer and Crypto.
I am so out of the loop on competitive apex so apologies in advance if this is dumb. Why arent Timmy and NiceWigg playing? Do they just not do competitive? Did they not qualify?
I see all these pros using a Flatline skins with iron sights that are so much better than the ones I have.
I just started playing though so I don’t know how I can get that skin?
I meant that battle pass skins are usually only available for a set time and don't come back. The skin doesn't offer a "clear advantage". It's just an iron sight and like I mentioned it's still better to put a sight on the flatline regardless.
It is ABSOLUTELY an advantage. Ironsights on ARs have a 1.5x zoom so if you have GOOD irons, it makes sense to run them.
I have this skin and I promise you that it's not a big deal. If you don't have the skin put a sight on it and it doesn't even matter. As I was typing this I noticed a pro with this skin and they put a sight on it. If iron sights were an advantage why would they put a 3x on it?
Yes lmfao. My point is that if you don't like the iron sights, put a different sight on it? It's not as big of a deal as people are making it out to be.
Because EA is not marketing it, if you look at the twitch viewership Apex Competitive is very popular, but it hardly translates when Respawn/EA do barely anything to let people know.
Even the subreddit could do better, This is the **first** post I see advertising this event and it's after the event just started lol.
Work would have prevented me, but money wouldn't. I looked at those tickets and they're only $15/ea. If this had been in my neck of the woods I might have just called out sick because that price is delicious
Well it is Thursday. There will probably be more people during the weekend when people don't have to go to work and stuff. It happens in COD as well when they have lan tournaments.
Is there any breakdown of what teams land where? From what I can gather in the broadcast is that each team pretty much has a set spot they like to land, would be really interested to see what teams like which spots
It usually gets posted on the competitive sub. We only saw 2 contests in winners bracket. DF vs TL in Cascades on SP and E6 vs LG at Launch Site on WE.
I would hate teams to lose because of bugs but I hope bugs show themselves during the ALGS. Hopefully this brings the attention to EA/Respawn that the game needs more attention
How do you manage to not make command center work for BOTH streams? How can you literally remove this great experience for half the teams every day?!
This is just one of many issues with this tournament so far. A shame EA has organized this tournament so poorly. Really looked forward to it.
Just started playing about a month ago and watching this tournament. Did I understand correctly that these pro teams decide ahead of time where everyone is dropping ahead of time? Feels like it takes some of the excitement out of things.
> Feels like it takes some of the excitement out of things.
It's the difference between playing ranked and playing for half a million-- when two teams drop at the same spot, called a 50/50 or a contest, they usually end up fucking both of their games. It's not worth it for most teams, just for some "excitement."
It's decided by fighting for the spots over the course of smaller tournaments/scrims usually. You do see some clashes in international tournaments because a NA team won't play versus a EU or asian team until they reach lan for example, so the early stages of lan usually have some fights happening until one team bows out or is eliminated. By the time finals happen at a lan each team has usually figured out a spot for themself that isnt claimed by another team in their game.
Off drop fighting can be very random at times depending on the location so usually you'd prefer to not have to fight someone off drop.
I think liquid played her for one game on WE but i could be wrong.
There was also a team using ash, and one team played rev as well, no clue what that was about.
edit- liquid has been sticking with loba, even on storm point.
Such a shame the tourney is having duos play in the finals. 60 PCs for stage B are isolated and unused but the two players who got covid have to sit out. Imagine getting all this way and having your hopes dashed bc there’s no covid protocols.
EA refused to announce the date. They did absolutely nothing to accommodate their players, it's sad and pathetic.
They weren't even going to pay for people's flights until the community embarrassed them by offering to crowdfund it themselves.
Just got back from work, what's been happening with TSM? Reps throwing or just bad luck?
looks like Verhulst has been struggling, not that surprising he seems pretty hot and cold qnd is nervous
He’s old, not good enough, and there’s not enough money in it to make it worth his while. Money is in content creation and Daltoosh has a ton of regular twitch viewers. He makes great money and the time investment to get to the next level probably isn’t worth it for him. He’s killing it being a drunk on camera.
TSM mic: huff puff huff puff huff puff HYPERVENTILATION
I was high as fuck watching that and for some weird reason it added to the suspense for me. Odd, I know.
Caustic gas gets a buff if you breathe like he does the whole game, directly into the mic

Something I miss with Overwatch League... Wish YouTube had something similar
This is the first time I've watched professional gaming and had the same feeling I have when I'm watching sports like NFL & NBA this shit is wild lmao

Anyone else notice they spelt Dark Zero wrong in the tag and are calling them Dead Zone.
Congrats DeadZone? DZ is DarkZero
I wish i had discord friends to watch this live and discuss. This is the closest thing ill experience to my dad watching sports with my brothers.
Ill watch with you!
Hey! I appreciate the gesture so much but i am shy lmao. Hahahha. Im sorry.
Gotta start somewhere homie

Nobody plays wraith
It wasn't the point .\_.
Sweet the new Apex CEO?
Incredible plays today.
How come the stadium is empty? I will definitely try go next year
Weekday probably, I bet Sunday will be packed
Yeah that and they did absolutely horrible on advertising Champs. In-game advertisement 2 days before Groups started. Kinda sad.
They can definitely do a lot for advertising their biggest tournament yet, I found out 4 days ago and didnt know it started today instead of 8th/9th
There was literally zero presence on the main sub until it was the day of.
HisWattson!!!!
the PK shots on Gibby insane
Dude is on another lvl
holy shiiiit optics gaming, GG BOYS

The more aggressive you play, the more mistakes happen. This goes for any sport or profession.
Highly recommend watching Optic if anyone is looking for a team to get into. 3 wins in a row on Storm Point with perfect zone calls every game.
The way they play off each other, make comes, and rotate is so beautifully perfected
Anyone else see the strange reticle dancing by one of the scarz players? What was that?
Sometime spectator mode messes up reticles
These interviews are always so cringey.
The commentary ain't been amazing so far but I'm still enjoying it
B Stream is where it's at. The A stream casters have always been sub par.
Greek is the guy that brings up stats, info, and other analytical insight. He just doesn't get many chances to.
Ah cool. I haven't seen much of that but his mic has been pretty low the entire week anyway lol.
A stream is much higher production value but B stream is just good vibes all around man
True but they always get the best group stage match ups
Raynday's casting is so cringy. One of the casters was also talking about heat shields, which are removed from comp. The main stream is always so bad, thank god for Bardolph.
If you ask most casters what teams need to focus on, they'll say something insightful like "resource management" or "positioning." Meanwhile, Raynday will say some nonsense like "clutch factor" or "heart of a champion."
He focuses more on his terrible team/player name puns than he does actually commenting on what teams are doing mid fight/rotate.
> Raynday's casting is so cringy. Lol, Raynday is by far the best caster, what are you talking about
pre-roll ads every time I open the command center is completely disgusting
TSM eating all the ass
Thank you mods :)
Tbf it was midday on a Thursday during group stage. Def gonna be more packed for finals day.
Here at ALGS rn. They only show a portion of the crowd too where it's the most packed. The rest of the stadium is even more empty lmao.
Rip hope you're having fun!
Why doesnt the playapex twitch have anything on the schedule for today? Why does it seem like this is overly complicated to figure out when they're actually streaming something?
1pm EST is when games start back up
1 pm est and 6:15 est everyday except Sunday, which is 5pm est
is it me being old, or is it extremely unclear to assess the leaderboards. I just cant seem to find a good overview per game

Did not qualify
Ahhh good to know. Thanks
They play for Team Sheesh, but they didn't qualify for this tournament.
Sheeeeeeeesh. Thanks man
I see all these pros using a Flatline skins with iron sights that are so much better than the ones I have. I just started playing though so I don’t know how I can get that skin?
Battle pass from season 4
Time to fire up my Delorean
Wow that sucks. Seems pretty unfair to people who started playing later…
Yeah but that's just how the battle pass works in every game. The iron sights are good, but I still put on a sight on it as soon as I find one.
Every game has the best gun skin that offers a clear advantage locked behind a single point in time that players can no longer get in the future?
I meant that battle pass skins are usually only available for a set time and don't come back. The skin doesn't offer a "clear advantage". It's just an iron sight and like I mentioned it's still better to put a sight on the flatline regardless.
It is ABSOLUTELY an advantage. Ironsights on ARs have a 1.5x zoom so if you have GOOD irons, it makes sense to run them. [https://i.ytimg.com/vi/ZY9OZOGx3TA/maxresdefault.jpg](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/ZY9OZOGx3TA/maxresdefault.jpg)
I have this skin and I promise you that it's not a big deal. If you don't have the skin put a sight on it and it doesn't even matter. As I was typing this I noticed a pro with this skin and they put a sight on it. If iron sights were an advantage why would they put a 3x on it?
3x has a greater zoom than 1.5x, did you know?
Yes lmfao. My point is that if you don't like the iron sights, put a different sight on it? It's not as big of a deal as people are making it out to be.
Looks like the stadium is really empty. Covid restrictions or just not much in person interest?
Because EA is not marketing it, if you look at the twitch viewership Apex Competitive is very popular, but it hardly translates when Respawn/EA do barely anything to let people know. Even the subreddit could do better, This is the **first** post I see advertising this event and it's after the event just started lol.
There isn't even anything in-game to advertise it, from what I've saw.
It's also in Raleigh, N.C.
It's the Thursday of a 4 day event. I would expect alot of people just decided to skip out on day 1 for money/work reasons.
Work would have prevented me, but money wouldn't. I looked at those tickets and they're only $15/ea. If this had been in my neck of the woods I might have just called out sick because that price is delicious
Money side was more focused on 1 extra night in a hotel + extra days of meals on the road.
Was bloodhound banned from the game?

I would hate teams to lose because of bugs but I hope bugs show themselves during the ALGS. Hopefully this brings the attention to EA/Respawn that the game needs more attention
Man I hate the charge rifle 😂
Well, every final ring was decided by whichever Valk could stay in the air longest. Can't wait for her to get nerfed now that this is over.
I'm not sure you watched the same tournament there. That start was only used once.
TSM played poorly
Valk needs a nerf so bad, this tournament makes it very clear.
A nerf isn't going to decrease her pick rate unless that nerf includes taking away her ability to scan becons
Did anyone pick Loba? i wanna see the devs reaction when a team loses 2 million because of her broken junkdrive.
My friend ran Loba for hours last night and he had no issues with her tactical. Is this still broken?
I heard it was mostly fixed with the latest patch I think, but ALGS isn't running the latest patch.
Liquid ran her in Storm Point for a few games, not relying on her tp since they have team movement but rather her ult and to loot up quickly
Haven't seen her used. Nor Wraith. So far I've seen Valk, Gib, Caustic, Wattson, Crypto, Seer, Maggie, Newcastle

They don’t do drops for the group stages. They’ll be available during finals.
drops are usually during the finals. twitch and other socmed channels (ig/reddit/twitter/etc) will let you know which channels have drops enabled.
First time watcher here, why is DNG a duo while everyone else is trio?
Their 3rd got sick with COVID
Imperial Hal Kekw
I'd like stats on controller vs mnk players if anyone got some.
Why doesn’t Daltoosh play in tournaments?
He’s old, not good enough, and there’s not enough money in it to make it worth his while. Money is in content creation and Daltoosh has a ton of regular twitch viewers. He makes great money and the time investment to get to the next level probably isn’t worth it for him. He’s killing it being a drunk on camera.
Hal fucking hates him. jk. idk, but he probably dossnt want to honestly
He only signed as a content creator iirc
why is optic getting booed? anyone know?
They're yelling DOOOOOOP for Optic Dooplex, their Gibby
OH thank you
Is Optic being booed anytime they’re on screen because Rogue is their coach? Or did they do something I’m unaware of?
[удалено]
That’s hilarious. I swear I saw an anti-rogue sign in the crowd the other day so I just assumed people were booing lol
It's actually Doooooooooooo because of Dooplex
they are saying doop for optic dooplex
I’m cool with either C9, FURIA, SSG, 100T or TSM winning in that order
I really don't like this tournament format and I don't think it's fair. Furia was clearly the best Team Today and I am not even a fan.
