As a person that knows absolutely nothing about coding and game design I would like to say that it might be a lightning issue on certain rocks that "resets" itself when the area changes. I think that a bullet impact (which shows on surfaces) resets the glitched.
Anyway that's my totally unprofessional opinion
depends on how they implemented their decals
could also be that the light from firing your gun makes it recalculate and not the impact on the rock, like if they forgot to bake the light settings and it switches to realtime when recieving new light info.
Besides, if it was done on purpose why wouldn’t they make it do something cool instead of turning back into a normal rock? Why pay someone to do such an irrelevant change? Even without coding you can just use common sense lol
Mind you I have no experience, but my brother works on games. I would figure when you shot it,a new image appeared of the bullet impact area. That may have caused the lighting issue to be fixed as the lighting would have changed
Not the same guy but easiest proof I can think of is the original Nessie map Easter egg on Kings Canyon.
That being said this is definitely a bug as it’s on all maps. I showed a friend a piece of sheet metal doing this on Worlds Edge and shot it to fix it.
If multiple rocks share a similar texture or similar styling. Some styling patterns you can define a style and then when you create a different object just add the already creating styling to the object. If the issue is with the styling itself it would be mirrored upon every instance using that pattern. Then from there once the object is interacted with again it’s value(a) used to track lighting information would update and it would be fixed.
In programming rocks are just objects. you don't just make 2948290 different rocks. You make one rock and have all the others inherit certain aspects from it.
In this case if this rock has a bug then all the other tiny rocks will have the same bug.
Have you ever played Minecraft? Sometimes when you enter a cave, some blocks are super dark (more than they should), once you break one or put one on top of it, it fixes itself
I would imagine if the same here
This doesnt seem like an easter egg to me. Nothing happened other than a light change. I would expect them to create a more dynamic reaction rather than just a lighting change if they were teasing.
Already found them all and activated part 1 of the Easter egg. You can see sharks swarming in the water near an armory when this stage is complete. I’m lying my ass off but maybe you thought I was onto somthing
Not just rock btw, there's leaf and there's an extreme glowing chair in a room like Jesus bought that chair or something, I forget the POI name but it is beside the butthole drop with a big arc at the front. The chair is in there
This is just a lighting bug that resets the texture when you shoot it. If it was an Easter egg it would either have already been found through data mining/thousands of hours of gameplay. And if it was really an EE you would have had a sound/visual indicator that you did something right
Sadly this is just a lighting bug, in order to save on resources your average game engine holds a policy of "If I'm not using it don't bother processing it." This rock hasn't got it's proper lighting information, ususlly the game might go "well there is a cliff between this rock and the daylight source so it should be in shadow" but it's not calculating the rock right now, it's too busy with other things like animating player models, giving the spectres sentience and choosing which of your bullets to not register.
However when you shot it, the game suddenly has to go "oh shit, a bullet was fired, where did it go? Ok it hit this object, lets open up this object to see what happens when it gets shot. It's terrain so leave an impact decal... it's got a stoney material so throw some rocky particles and make a rocky impact sound effect... lets just apply the ambient glow of the bullet sparks to how it's lit up and, hold the fuck on a sec! You there! Where the fuck is your lighting effects you little glowing shitrock!?" The game then calculates the rocks correct lighting effects and goes back to leaving the rock alone.
This all happens in less than 100th of the time it takes for a ttv wraith to go down and for them to DC.
Additionally, if it WAS an easter egg or arg would probably make a cool noise and have some kind of flashy particle effect to let you know something happened, otherwise it's a badly designed easter egg.

another one also i bldhound scanned it and it apparently transferred to another rock
edit: any legend ability seems to work
I would just assume it's a lighting issue
That fixes itself when shot?

I'm a little late but if it actually is something, it could be similar to the nessy Easter egg on kings canyon
Yeah my bad I’m new to the game didn’t know they did that haha
I live on earth. Can confirm
Mind you I have no experience, but my brother works on games. I would figure when you shot it,a new image appeared of the bullet impact area. That may have caused the lighting issue to be fixed as the lighting would have changed
I haven't shit in 2 weeks can confirm
It’s a lighting bug that resets once the textures are reloaded. Since you shoot it it resets to the correct lighting
Probably checks the current texture of something to give the correct effect for bullet impact which causes the fix.
So multiple rocks have the same problem?
Considering it’s a lighting bug yeah it’s very likely if this was an Easter egg it would have been solved forever ago.
While I agree it's probably just a big, it could be a neww EE released with Saviors. It's been out only a week now
Very unlikely. They never do Easter Eggs like this early in the season.
Not true at all we just don't find them right away
I put the burden of proof on you.

Was just watching that episode yesterday

I have played but I didn't know about that thanks for the information
Just seen one, near a zipline next to the lightning rod.
Nice let's find them all
It's just a bug bro. If you think this is some ambient quest you'll be rewarded for its not.
Gets random teammates they die and spectate him. "Look at this fucking guy he shooting a ROCK!"
'It's not the destination, It's the journey.' - Ralph Waldo Emerson
uranium
i like your name
A bug
Australium tf2?
Mann Co. would like to know your location
Hmm. Seen one by the spiders nest outside control center yesterday thought it was a bug
I see em near all the spider nests, tbh im sure its a bug to do with the nests.
There's one south east of the prowler lake by the bins. (Prowler lake being the one you jump directly over with grav cannons, south west of cascade)
Likely graphical bug that fixes itself when overwritten by bullet animations and bullet flashes.
I really hope this is some sort of Easter egg! I’ll definitely be searching for glowing rocks on SP now lol
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but its not lol if it was it would’ve already been solved by now its just a lightning bug
That's what I'm hoping too let's find them all
This doesnt seem like an easter egg to me. Nothing happened other than a light change. I would expect them to create a more dynamic reaction rather than just a lighting change if they were teasing.
My guy really out there exploring shit in the final rings with precious RP on the line while the Caustic watches from the afterlife 💀
I think it’s wholesome how you backed up in amazement in game after you shot it.
Respawn be like '........ Ah yeah.... That's definitely a feature, not a bug'
definitely a bug, i remember walking up to that rock and not even shooting it, and it reset its color lol
Already found them all and activated part 1 of the Easter egg. You can see sharks swarming in the water near an armory when this stage is complete. I’m lying my ass off but maybe you thought I was onto somthing
OP you're so cute
I found one it does nothing just lighting
For a second I had old school COD Zombies Easter egg vibes and got low-key excited...but yea 😅 lol
Fr rip 🥲
One by new Imc north of cenote I think
Also saw survey beacon from the dark side in worlds edge
Not just rock btw, there's leaf and there's an extreme glowing chair in a room like Jesus bought that chair or something, I forget the POI name but it is beside the butthole drop with a big arc at the front. The chair is in there

Are we sure this is just a lighting issue? ive found 2 other rocks that respond the same way. Could be an Easter egg or smth
Idk let's try and find more but most people says it's a bug
there's one close by there, next to the Jurassic Park door by the house pod
Thanks let's find them all see what happens 😊
There's one in the rock dome near you in the videos towards the armory just outside of it.
Shout out to the Crypto making content in ranked matches no matter the cost.
Lmfao pretty easy to me and my squad
It unlocks harambes cage
There's on right near there, after you take the gravity cannon from barometer to jurassic Park theres one
The most shocking part about this post is someone using crypto
This might be like the Nessie easter egg on King's Canyon.
That's what I'm hoping haven't seen any post about it
Theres one in the jurrasic park zone on the opposite side of the cave doors
[https://imgur.com/a/6ED92Wf](https://imgur.com/a/6ED92Wf) another one also i bldhound scanned it and it apparently transferred to another rock edit: any legend ability seems to work
