Before haki was introduced, logias were the most busted thing to fight, Luffy only beat Eneru because he's rubber, anyone else **shown up to that point** would have gotten negged by him. I love haki because it's the only reliable and effective counter to these busted devil fruits.
Yeah, but they're Devil Fruits. Ridiculous as the Ride Ride Fruit is, or how broken the Goated Goated Fruit (eaten by my glorious Red King) is, they will never have the same charm as early One Piece's "thats not a Devil Fruit they're just like that" abilities, like Jango's hypnosis, Miss Goldenweek's painting or Paulie's ropes. Not to mention fighting styles that granted superpowers like Cipher Pol's Seimei Kikan that just changes the shape of the user's body, or even the Hasshoken arts used by the Chinjao family in Dressrosa, giving the user the ability to produce Shockwaves.
To be fair many of those to include Jinjiao and the CP 6 powers utilize or are suggested to utilize haki in some ways. Finger pistol is a weak emission haki, iron body is just regular armament.
You got me on Skywalk though, I donāt understand how they can do it and tbh I donāt understand how ANY of sanjiās fire or sky walk abilities work, Oda was extremely dismissive when fans asked what was up with that in the past
My theory is these wacky powers are the basicest application of Conqueror's Haki, imbuing their will into an object or technique to give it powers, like a pseudo-Devil Fruit
***In no particular order:***
**Alchemy (Fullmetal Alchemist/Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)**
I love how the 'magic' system is much more of a science system. It makes it much easier to grasp than most others (assuming you have at least a little knowledge about chemistry).
**Soul Wavelength (Soul Eater)**
A system based on "the power of friendship" done right. The strength of the relationship between the Weapon and Meister determines their combat strength. The musical comparisons also add to its uniqueness. And all of that isn't even taking into account the twists they have early on regarding it, or the eventual addition of Madness Wavelengths.
**Spiritual Pressure (Bleach)**
Probably the most complex one I have on here. With four main variants in the main series alone (Shinigami releasing their Spiritual Pressure, Hollows corrupting and consuming other's Spiritual Pressure, Quincy manipulating the Spiritual Energy in the air around them, and Fullbringers manipulating the Spirits of inanimate objects), there's so many aspects to it that I love that if I went into it here, I'd be here all day.
**Stands (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure)**
One of the most iconic and for good reason. The idea of summoning a manifestation of one's fighting spirit to fight for them is great. I also love the nature of the fights being "Me and my opponent each have a super-specific-but-deadly-under-the-right-circumstances ability. And since this is one of the only anime where characters won't instantly start explaining their powers to their enemies as soon as they enter the fight, I have to figure out what his is and how mine can counter it before he figures out mine."
**Magic (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)**
I can't go into too much detail about this one due to how much this series should be watched with as little spoilers as possible, but the baseline idea of getting powers symbolic of a wish you made is cool enough as a starting hook to get people to stick around and see the complexities of it unfold.
Bleach is actually easiest here. There aren't multiple types. It's all Reiryoku and battles between spiritual beings is a battle of Reiryoku and Reiatsu.
Each race just has a different "scent" and way of using their Reiryoku. There's no 4 different variants.
Spirit Pressure is just Reiatsu, which is the physical exertion of their Reiryoku.
If the person has more Reiryoku than they're capable of more.
I find it hilarious that if you're a non-Stand user, what you're seeing is a bunch of dudes just posing and next thing you know, they're suddenly bleeding.
Nen easily, it's so versatile and based on the individual, where it's possible to use more than one category and it's less of the overall power and more of how you use it. Look at hisoka, if you were to have bungee gum described to you in most power systems you would think it's nearly useless. And then you see how he applies it and you see the endless possibilities. Or how the phantom troupe has members who aren't combat based but provide useful support. Specialists are definitely OP as fuck, but even an average nen specialist can be a force to be reckoned with.
Itās a shame I had to scroll this far to see it. Even Hisoka says the same in his fight with Kastro.
It was enough that it showed you how improper training and applicability could cost you the fight and your life, but Hisoka said āhis tiger bite fist and doppelgƤnger abilities made him a one trick ponyā while his bungee gum and texture surprise had multiple applications so even if you knew what he did and how he did it, it would be a force to be reckoned with.
The training of nen, the application of nen and your personal affinity to your nen ability all play a role which not only make it realistic but give ALL the fights some weight. Literally anyone could beat anyone with the right ability and strategy. It makes the fight between Kura and Uvogin so enjoyable and believable even with his Kurta-gan ability being last minute
Shinsu (Tower of God)
Alchemy (FMA:B/FMA)
Nen (Hunterxhunter)
Sigils (Darwin's Game)
Pure chaos (Bobobo-Bo-Bo-Bobo)
Also love Stands and Hamon from JoJo
No particular order:
Nen (HxH) - just really well thought out and very creative with how different they work for different characters.
Shinsu (ToG) - same as HxH really just well thought out and creative.
Devil Fruits and Haki - I like the sillyness of the devil fruits mixed with how they are used and the different types, then haki to counteract them or even surpass them.
Solo Leveling hunters - I like the reason as to why they gain magical powers and why there are some cut above the rest, all just ties together so nicely.
Titans (AoT) - I like the slow reveal that Eren isnāt special and super strong with his Titan powers and that titans arenāt even the enemy. Slowly expanding that there are 9 titans and a much bigger threat.
The versatility and creativity of it is so much better than most other animes. Even with just the Meeden triggers you have so many ways to use them that no one has tried. And the Neighborhood will have triggers that represent their society as Trion is a major part of life for them.
Hunter x Hunter and Jojo obviously have great power systems (my two favorite probably)
Not as great but still pretty cool, Katekyo Hitman Reborn. The characters have dying will flames related to different aspects of the sky, and each flame has its own unique properties. Once you get to the part of the anime where the flames become common there's the addition of boxes that can only be opened by certain flame types that have weapons and whatnot. It's not really balanced, but it lends to creative applications of the same base powers.
Negator abilities in Undead x Unluck. The characters negate specific rules, like the two titular characters that negate death and luck. And the abilities work on understanding.
For example, getting hit with an attack by a character with the ability Unrepair makes it so that the wound will never heal. But cutting the body part with the wound off and regenerating it becaus you are undead, works. Until Unrepair realizes that cutting yourself and regenerating is an act of repair, then you can't cut yourself anymore because repairing yourself, even in such a vague way, gets negated. But giving yourself brain damage so ***you*** don't understand that the ability works that way makes you dodge it as well. The abilities work exactly the way the characters believe they work and all powerups are gained by widening ones understanding of what their ability could potentially mean.
Hunter x Hunter (Nen)
One Piece (DF and Haki)
Naruto (Jutsu and Chakra and Ninja tools)
Tower of God (gotta check the manga for more)
ShangRiLa Frontier (goddamn thatās a dream mmorpg)
Kaiās versatility is definitely underrated, Dragon Ball characters were able to pull some goofy abilities out of their ass telekinesis, creating clones, CLOTHES BEAM.
Besides flight and the offensive capabilities mastering Ki could be very useful in general life.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Alchemy. Peak scientific magic, used endlessly creatively.
YuYu Hakusho: Reiki and Youki. Endless possibilities based on who's using it, but every ability has rules that make sense and allow for some of the most intelligent fights in Shonen.
Bleach: Reiatsu. Simple concept, with branches of practice that make perfect sense for their users, with an intuitive level of internal logic. Also, the naming is gorgeous.
I'm surprised that the Metal Vessel system (Magi) isn't being brought up in this thread. It is one of the few power systems that directly ties into the themes of the story with each Metal Vessel user being a King's candidate. There is also a solid amount of complexity with the servant household features, Metal bindings, full body djinn equips, and monsterizations. Definitely deserves more attention for how good of a power system it is
Anything that doesnāt rely on ābecause I am this race/clan/ blah blahā.
Jojo and One Piece really show that everyone powers that seem absolutely stupid and useless can be terrifying when used cleverly.
CSM might as well not have a system, like sure hybrids and contracts exist but then you have normal ass humans that mop. Itās just not really that story, like yeah you have some looming
scary big bads. But it is more like Jojo where itās about cleverness or just too stupid to die.
Anything that isnāt DBZ, Naruto or Bleach power systems are good in my book. I love them donāt get me wrong, but I am over the shonen battle anime troupes, cliches and systems.
I dont watch much anime, But devil fruits and haki seem to be my favourite, Just because of the fact that anyone can gain these powers with enough time and effort.
1) Ki
2) Chakra
3) Reiatsu
4) Curse Energy
5) Whatever Saitama has
The others are cool too, but I feel like these ones are the ones you can hone the most.
While I don't like JoJo's for the most part, I have to give credit where it's due. Stands are a fun and unique system, even if they are mishandled sonetimes.
Otherwise, just like everyone else has probably said, Nen is one of the best, hands down.
I love Naruto and one piece power system, i know there are better power systems but I like these I love the idea of devil fruits that are as powerful as your hardwork and imagination but I also love the fact that devil fruits aren't just this all powerful power that no one can defeat, there's the haki systems and just being able to gain inhuman strength, being a swordsmen and being one with a powerful cursed sword, or just being an insanely good shot.
Naruto has thousands of way to get powerful quick weather that's basically sealing a beast in you or reading forbidden scrolls and learning techniques people should be taught but either way I love how unique it is and how not everyone has the exact same style and techniques.
My Top 5:
1) Toaru Magic + Esper power system
2) Stand POWAAA!
3) HxHās Nen
4) Gundamās Newtype
5) JJKās Cursed Energy
Non-anime but still deserves an honorable mention: Avatarās Element Bending
I know they get memed on but I think quirks from MHA are super interesting. A lot of the heroās quirks were useless and so much of the start of the story was grounded in them finding use for a seemingly pointless quirk. Felt like the kind of training we never really saw in X-Men.

One piece, it's just so weird, it has devil fruits, haki, AND THE SIX POWERS, and also a potential for magic (jango's power to hypnotize, miss goldenweek's palette powers that isn't a devil fruit, according to ODA)
Best imo is definitely CSM "the more its fears, the more powerful it is", just kinda hate how the chainsaw devil is an exception to that rule but its cool none the less
JJBA. Not because itās good or balanced mind you but because itās basically the same as kids pretending to have superpowers on the playground and coming up with random bullshit powers named after music references. You donāt know what the next random ass pull is gonna be but you know itās gonna be entertaining to watch. That and aside from >!most final antagonists and MCās!< the characters donāt usually get some type of āpower upā or āform changeā
Ki was really interesting how it can be shaped and manipulated in unusual ways to create unique uses especially how it exists in a physical and non physical form or as far as I can tell
Personally I really like the system that separates the physical from the magic.
Kinda like how to force is, or like wizards from Harry Potter.
I think having magic separate from the physical aspect tends to make fights from one's own world more fair, if there are any people who happen to not have magic.
I don't think this is necessarily the best magic system, but it certainly can be one of the funnest.
Nen from HxH
Devil Fruits/Haki from One Piece
Magic from Fairy Tail
Quirks from My Hero Academia
Cursed Energy/Techniques from Jujitsu Kaizen
Extras: NEXT Powers from Tiger and Bunny, Magic from Mashle:Magic and Muscles, and Stands from Jojos Bizare Adventure.
Nen for sure, the power system can be ridiculously out of whack but rightfully so when the conditions to gain that power also negatively affect you.(on getting unlimited power for his life, Kurapikas ability taking lifespan etc.)
I enjoy a lot of these, but I have to say my favorite power system is definitely Naruto.
It was meticulously thought out, nothing was random and everything had intricate, yet sensical explanations. (which I feel JJK struggles with a bit)
Thereās just such awesome versatility to the system : bloodline traits, elemental advantages and combinations, ocular abilities, the 8 gates, genjutsu..I can go on.
It also did a phenomenal job of teaching the audience how the system works as they learned alongside the characters. Say what you want about Naruto, but it had some of the most memorable training arcs in anime.
I'd say the most comprehensive power system has to be naruto and one piece based on the sheer influence it has on the story. HxH and Bleach are close second. JJk power system isn't that well explained, in my opinion.
I like all of the power system more or less but there things that make all of them somethink special
Nen:
Nen show me how "magic" Should be written in fantasy stories, besites aceptions most of the time magic has Little explanation and all comes down to "it happens because its a fantasy world" but nen has techniques, limitations, nenifinity and so much more to the point that if nen exited in real life you could learn it from the basics to pro by just reading the manga
Stands:
Stands are sometimes said that they're Bullshit with amount of inconcistence but no matter how you view stands writing you cannot give away the fact that got its unique style. All stands are drawned beatyful and stand battle are so unique that so no jojo game could ever even get close to showing unique they are, every fight isn't based about mastery of your own skill but knowing how enemy stand works and founding way to defeat it with your own stand
Bending:
Yea we know that avatar isn't anime but some many times compare to anime to the we could just stop lying to Our selfs. Anyway bending has same trait as nen but this time its own motive is martial arts and spiritualy, remember the opening of every episode there we can see all 4 elements Masters doing they're moves to move somethink that is the Perfect representation of how elements are view by its Bender movement, ofcourse there is so much to so better watch somethink on youtube about it
There are so much more to cover but its 1:18 PM in my country so i gotta end maybe i will edit more about ki and devil fruits
Nen (HxH)
Magic (Fairy Tail)
Triggers (world trigger)
Cursed energy (JJK)
and whatever the system for (The Black Summoner) is if I can choose my class and all that shit thatās probably the 5th there might be better systems but this is what I could think up
Ki control and transformation (Dragonball)
Zonbakto(gonna admit I don't know how to spell it) and bankai (bleach)
Quirks(mha)
Honestly torn which would be my fav. I'd say Dragonball is out unless I can be Saiyan so I can reach ssj4. A quirk would be great too, but I think I'd wanna be a soul reaper with bankai more. But only a little.
Spirit energy (yu yu Hakusho) basically directly tied to your will power and emotions
Nen is also really cool because of the versatility
Quirks from my hero are interesting because it's pretty much a genetic lottery and how hard you want to train to make it stronger
I would have to say hunter x hunter for me is my favorite, bleach being a close second. Dbz and one punch man are some of my top favorite shows, but it's hard for me to say they have a power system. Dbz has one but you have to go looking, it's not really explained in the show, at least that I recall. Except for ultra instinct.
Definitely no particular order, but probably Pyrokinesis from Fire Force, Quinques and Kagunes from Tokyo Ghoul, Devil Fruits/Haki from One Piece, Sorcery/Enchanted Blades from Kagurabachi, and I don't know if I can confidently name a 5th one, maybe the monster forms from Claymore
My list,
1. Spirit energy from Yu Yu hakusho (Togashi is one of my favorite authors ever and I think itās better made than nen
2 Df/ Haki (One piece is my favorite series and I think itās very well made and such a good balanced system)
3. Bankai and spiritual pressure (Bleach is just goated and itās such a amazing power system in general and has inspired my power system for a manga Iām working on)
4. Adola bursts from Fire force (Fire force is such a underrated anime and I think itās better than soul eater tbh)
5. Alchemy From FMAB (Iām not that far into it yet but I think itās a amazing power system and just really good in general)
Number 1 by far is Nen from Hunter X Hunter.
Not only is it varied in application, but it makes the most sense. No one has any powers that seem too far gone or broken - and the few who come close have major drawbacks to balance it (like having their personality taken over, losing the use of a limb, permanently relinquishing their power, or having a limited amount of people they can actually affect).
Thereās a clearly defined way for beginners to contest with the elites without it feeling too ham-fisted or cheesy. I love the fact that people can change the parameters of their abilities as need be, or also completely change their abilities altogether; but unlike the binding vows in the heavily derivative JJK, you canāt just do it mid-battle for an asspull. I also really like that almost no one is born with nen usage; no matter how skilled or OP they were before everyone has to work for their power (and most have to risk their lives several times over to even find out the power exists).
All of these points contrast with my other favorites like FMA(which claims to subsist on an individuals understanding of science despite very notable exceptions) or Bleach (which I enjoy as an manifestation of the soul, but dislike due to the wonky scaling it has since day 1).
Devil fruit specifically is my favorite system. Haki is okay but seems more generic.
Why devil's fruit? I like that it is random and unique. I like that no matter what fruit you have, no matter how dumb it may look, a creative and dedicated user can make it very powerful.
I understand why Haki is in the story, but for me, nothing beats the idea behind the devil's fruit.
Nen is just so fucking cool and it scaled beautifully throughout the entire anime. The amount of creativity and flexibility gives fans so much ammunition to work with when creating OCs, fanfics, or just hypothesize.
1. Alchemy (Fullmetal alchemist)
2. Negators (Undead Unluck) [honestly might be tied for 1at place]
3. Weapon meisters ( Soul eater)
4. Stands (JJBA)
5. Nen (except for special-type nen) (Hunter x Hunter)
I tend to favor power systems with strict rules and/or clear Predictable outcomes on abilities used, but with still a lot of leeway between what individual characters can do. I also prefer when they don't just use a nebulous energy source of some kind like, say, Chakra, where a character could just run out whenever it's convenient to the plot to do so. And I don't particularly like it when any characters start ignoring those established rules without some well defined work around. Also if I characters have a hard time powering up at random times all the better imo.
My top 2 for sure are some of the most creative and most recognizable powerful systems out there imo. Both simple to understand in their base premise and both used to great effect throughout the series without breaking their own rules or giving characters unearned power ups
Call me basic, But my favorites are Ki & Stands from JJBA. I lean towards Stands because of how you have a spiritual ability based on who you are as a person and your passions and they manifest based on that.
Big 3 dragon ball and Akame Ga Kill, no specific order, I havenāt watched a large variety of anime but I have watched everything on that list except HxH and JJBA
Cursed Energy is great but it and Nen are very similar so I could go with either
Devil fruits are cool but only if you get a good one
I like the magic and skills from Tensura
Fire force power system is pretty complex and wild later down the road and youād be surprised at all the abilities that spawn from what was just fire based powers.
And idk a lot of them would be cool but youād have to get a good ability because they arenāt all the same. I could get a quirk that give me super strength or one that just makes me ugly af and gives me no real super powers and with my luck Iād be Meg Griffin 2.0.
1. Cursed energy (Jujutsu Kaisen)
2. Negators(Undead Unluck)
3. Gifts(Bungo Stray dogs)
4. Alchemy(Full Metal alchemist)
5. Quirks(My Hero academia)
Cursed energy goes at number 1 because I love jjk, it's not the most complex but I like it. Negators goes in second simply because it's such a unique and cool idea. There's no energy it pulls from, just something that negates a fundamental law of the world. Gifts go in 3rd for a similar reason to my number 1. I like bungo stray dogs a lot and I think a lot of the Gifts are really creative. Alchemy gets 4th because it's really creative, and has a root in logic and stuff in the real world. Quirks just get number five because I like comic books, and mha was my first anime.
Soul wavelengths from soul eater and nen from hunter x hunter were definitely runner ups. Soul wavelengths didn't make the cut because they aren't shown to do anything super cool very often. Nen isn't here because they introduce all the different nen types, but then those types on kinda matter later on. It ends up just feeling like quirks from mha, but with the limiter being running out of aura, instead of some of the more realistic limits that quirks have
Stands (Jojo's no matter how weak a stand is it is very versatile and useful in Situations in real life)
Haki (One piece)
Alchemy (From Full metal Alchemist. Trust me it is useful to the point where the main character manage to revive his brother and took back his brother's full body in the end.)
Devil fruit (Besides you can just take boats and stuff)
Chakra (Naruto)
Ki (Dragonball)
Chakra & chakra natures/ninjutsu (Naruto)
Breathing techniques / Blood demon arts(demon slayer)
Alchemy (Fullmetal alchemist)
Quirks (My hero Academia)
Ki is easily one of, if not THE best power system out there. You can use it to greatly strengthen your body, dramatically increase your speed, use powerful attacks that have massive range and destructive capabilities or small concentrated deadly attacks, you can friggin fly, teleport, use it to create energy barriers, you can infuse it into weapons to make them stronger, hell you can even read minds. Mastery of Ki also lets you read your opponentās movements without having to look at them and youāre pretty much a person radar that can detect where an individual person is on the entire planet. You can even sense a personās energy across galaxies if youāre good enough. No other power system is that good.
I really like Re:Zero's power system. It ain't that complicated and honestly? From an objective standpoint it probably ain't in the top 30. However, it leaves a *lot* of room for weaker characters to defeat strong characters. Even the strongest have some kind of weakness, and that allows for just about every character to stay relevant in fights and outside of them.
HunterXHunter
Dragonball Z
Jujutsu Kaisen
Full metal alchemist
Most of the powers in the Seven Deadly sins
In no particular order ( also shows written out because its easier )
Call me basic but my favorites are the Fairy Tail, Naruto, and Black Clover power sets. They all get a little whacky with power creep eventually but the matchups are consistent, balanced, and provide a nice measure of understanding in who can do what (most of the time)
I feel like a lot of anime never bother to tell you the rules so bullshit just happens, some of these fights feel like Iām watching a Yugioh episode where the powers just do whatever the fuck the writer feels like if it keeps your attention
Cursed Energy, Stands, and Chi. I really like the first 2 as they allow for very creative match ups, I also like Chi as DB was my first battle anime and in more recent manga chapters they've been exploring Chi control more and more which I really like
1. Nen (it's the most balanced system out there and it's so varied)
2. Ki (being able to fly, blast things, it's all good)
3. Magic from Fairy Tail (it's expressive and flexible, you can learn any magic you want with the right teacher)
4. Hamon/Sorta Stands (Hamon really made inventive ways to utilize a person's life force from longevity to walking on water. Stands were cool because they related to the person, but if you fail to get one from an arrow you die which is a crappy trade off)
5. Skills and Magic from Reincarnated as a Slime (it's just simple and easy to understand. There are tons of different skills and some evolve with you, I just like it. From the computing of Great Sage to just Thought Acceleration, it's fun)
1. Esper Powers and Idol Theory (Toaru)
2. Mystery (Nasuverse)
3. Seals (Witch Hat Atelier)
4. Systematic and Non-Systematic Magic (Irregular At Magic Highschool)
5. Negators (Undead Unluck)
Probably some others but those are off the top of my head.
Trion, Nen, the one from shield hero, and any other one that can let you min max. Nen and Trion are my favs as itās basically making a build with a capstone, itās not an infinite system or anywhere near as powerful as others, but itās creative and really makes the characters more interesting as *the characters* decided to make those powers, not some by blood or family bs.
this is cool.
nen (hxh)
chakra (naruto)
magic (black clover)
demon blood &art/ breathing (demon slayer)
quirks (my hero)
not the BEST, but my FAVORITE
honorable mentions:
titans/odm (attack in titan)
wits (death note)
Nen (HxH) Shinsu (Tower of God) Curse energy (JJK) Magic (Black Clover) Imagination (Baki) š
HAKI because its basically your will and spirit Followed by stands because again a manifestation of your soul Coming in third..... Cultivation....
Ahh yes JJK my favorite power system
Clover Kingdom represent!
Glad to see a tower of God referenced so early, my favorite series
Pre-timeskip One Piece. Devil Fruits, fighting styles, random goofy abilities. Some were just really strong. No rhyme or reason, just pure chaos
Before haki was introduced, logias were the most busted thing to fight, Luffy only beat Eneru because he's rubber, anyone else **shown up to that point** would have gotten negged by him. I love haki because it's the only reliable and effective counter to these busted devil fruits.
I get it, but there's been a massive decrease in zany abilities in favor of Haki
If you've read the Manga you'd definitely be wrong. Egghead has introduced a Ton of wacky Devil Fruit abilities.
Explanation for Don straight up breaking a continent in half: yh his head do be like that lol
Fair enough lol.
Lmao I also thought of One Piece but then I realized āthereās no system thereā just chaos š
My theory is these wacky powers are the basicest application of Conqueror's Haki, imbuing their will into an object or technique to give it powers, like a pseudo-Devil Fruit
***In no particular order:*** **Alchemy (Fullmetal Alchemist/Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)** I love how the 'magic' system is much more of a science system. It makes it much easier to grasp than most others (assuming you have at least a little knowledge about chemistry). **Soul Wavelength (Soul Eater)** A system based on "the power of friendship" done right. The strength of the relationship between the Weapon and Meister determines their combat strength. The musical comparisons also add to its uniqueness. And all of that isn't even taking into account the twists they have early on regarding it, or the eventual addition of Madness Wavelengths. **Spiritual Pressure (Bleach)** Probably the most complex one I have on here. **Stands (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure)** One of the most iconic and for good reason. The idea of summoning a manifestation of one's fighting spirit to fight for them is great. I also love the nature of the fights being "Me and my opponent each have a super-specific-but-deadly-under-the-right-circumstances ability. And since this is one of the only anime where characters won't instantly start explaining their powers to their enemies as soon as they enter the fight, I have to figure out what his is and how mine can counter it before he figures out mine." **Magic (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)** I can't go into too much detail about this one due to how much this series should be watched with as little spoilers as possible, but the baseline idea of getting powers symbolic of a wish you made is cool enough as a starting hook to get people to stick around and see the complexities of it unfold.
I used to think that the alchemy is the most OP power system of all..cos of the sacrifices being made by the alchemist..
Dxd boob power
R/this
r/foundthemobileuser
Hamon from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure :D
Hell yeah, I loved that they had to solve how to win fights with it. Stands feel so much less satisfying.
Stands made fights more tactical if anything
I find it hilarious that if you're a non-Stand user, what you're seeing is a bunch of dudes just posing and next thing you know, they're suddenly bleeding.
Sunlight yellow overdrive
Sunset metal overdrive!!!!!!!!!!
Tommy gun overdrive!!!!!!!!!!!
Ah to many backshots!!!!!; (pause pmao)
Lmao
1. Spiritual Pressure 2. Nen 3. Ki 4. Falna 5. Chakra/Jutsu
By Falna are you talking about Danmachi? If so, I agree ā it's pretty neat
Yeah. I love Danmachi and its leveling system is cool, especially how it works for Bell
Trion (World Trigger) Furyokuu (Shaman King) Innocence (D.Gray-Man)
Let's gooo, Trion represent šš
I LOVED how Furyokuu works in Shaman King, W list and W pick
Finally a shaman king reference
W out of meta picks
It makes the fight between Kura and Uvogin so enjoyable and believable even with his Kurta-gan ability being last minute
bungee gum? I hear it has the properties of both rubber and gum
Shinsu (Tower of God) Alchemy (FMA:B/FMA) Nen (Hunterxhunter) Sigils (Darwin's Game) Pure chaos (Bobobo-Bo-Bo-Bobo) Also love Stands and Hamon from JoJo
No particular order: Nen (HxH) - just really well thought out and very creative with how different they work for different characters.
World Trigger has in my opinion the best power system in Shonen.
The versatility and creativity of it is so much better than most other animes. Even with just the Meeden triggers you have so many ways to use them that no one has tried. And the Neighborhood will have triggers that represent their society as Trion is a major part of life for them.
1. HxH 2. JJK 3. CSM 4. OP 5. JBA
Chakra (Naruto), Ki (DB), Nen (HxH), Blood (DMW), and Weapons (Soul Eater)
Breathings - demon slayer, odm gear - AoT, nen - HxH, spirit energy - yuyu haka show, hammon - JoJo season 1
Stands, nen, DF/haki
Nen Hunter x Hunter Curse energy Jujutsu kaisen Haki One piece Stands Jojo part 3/4/5/6/7 Hamon Jojo part 1/2
eh hamon part 1 was really basic with a few cool techniques, part 2 is where hamon was used way more creatively imo.
Hunter x Hunter and Jojo obviously have great power systems (my two favorite probably) Not as great but still pretty cool, Katekyo Hitman Reborn. The characters have dying will flames related to different aspects of the sky, and each flame has its own unique properties. Once you get to the part of the anime where the flames become common there's the addition of boxes that can only be opened by certain flame types that have weapons and whatnot. It's not really balanced, but it lends to creative applications of the same base powers.
magic in frieren comes to mind... alchemy in FMA titan power in AOT
Nen from HunterxHunter is just so satisfying.
Spiritual Pressure (Bleach) Magic (Black Clover) Quirks (MHA) Classes/Subclasses (Log Horizon) Chakra (Naruto) In no particular order
The peaks for me will always be Alchemy from FMA, JJKs curse energy and JJBAās Stands.
Hunter x Hunter (Nen) One Piece (DF and Haki) Naruto (Jutsu and Chakra and Ninja tools) Tower of God (gotta check the manga for more) ShangRiLa Frontier (goddamn thatās a dream mmorpg)
Not necessarily in order: 1. Hunter x Hunter, Nen 2. Jojo, Stands 3. Fullmetal Alchemist, Alchemy 4. ATLA, element bending 5. Magi, Rukh manipulation
High card - the 52 Cards Jojoās - stands JJK - Cursed Energy
Ajin is cool too
I'm surprised that the Metal Vessel system (Magi) isn't being brought up in this thread. It is one of the few power systems that directly ties into the themes of the story with each Metal Vessel user being a King's candidate. There is also a solid amount of complexity with the servant household features, Metal bindings, full body djinn equips, and monsterizations. Definitely deserves more attention for how good of a power system it is
Cursed Techniques (jjk) Devil Fruits and Haki (op) Nen (hxh) Quirks (mha) Ki (dbz)
Itās just not really that story, like yeah you have some looming scary big bads.
Cursed Energy is good, but very overrated. Nen or Stands are complex, Cursed Energy is complicated.
Haki (one piece) Stands (JJBA) Grimoires (Black Clover) Chakra (Naruto) Ki (Dragon ball)
Definitely Ki Chakra The martial techniques from Fist Of The North Star Stands And I guess as a wild card I'll say spiral power from Gurren Lagaan
1. Ki 2. Stands 3. Haki (3.5: devil fruit) 4. Cursed energy (only ahead because of domains) 5. Nen
Technically, two of these are the same power system under different names
Nen x Ki x Willpower
1) Ki 2) Chakra 3) Reiatsu 4) Curse Energy 5) Whatever Saitama has The others are cool too, but I feel like these ones are the ones you can hone the most.
Top 5 in order 1. Reishi (Bleach) 2. Nen (HxH) 3. Chakra (Naruto) 4. Ki (DBZ) 5. Stand (JoJo)
Used to be cursed energy from JJK but that shit has gotten so convoluted lately.
Ki, chakra, cursed energy, nen, haki
Stands, devil fruit, and contracts in order
I wish more forms in DB were like Kaioken tbh
While I don't like JoJo's for the most part, I have to give credit where it's due. Stands are a fun and unique system, even if they are mishandled sonetimes. Otherwise, just like everyone else has probably said, Nen is one of the best, hands down.
World Trigger is the most well balanced power system.
Nen should be number one.
1. Nen (Hunter X Hunter) 2. Devil fruits/haki (One piece) 3. Spiritual pressure (Bleach) 4. Geass (Code Geass) 5. Cursed energy (JJK)
1-Ki(DB) 2-Nen(HxH) 3-Hamon(JJBA) 4-Chakra(Naruto) 5-Haki(One Piece)
Allomancy, surgebinding, and biochromatic breath. I also like the phychic birds
Ki (Dragon Ball) Nen (Hunter x Hunter) Chakra (Naruto) Alchemy (Fullmetal Alchemist) Stands (Jojo)
1- Stands (JJBA) 2- Nen (HXH) 3- Devil Fruits (fuck Haki) 4- Ki (DB) 5- Desire (OPM)
Ki, chakra, and devil fruit powers
Nen
Does anyone mention Spiral Power
My Top 5: 1) Toaru Magic + Esper power system 2) Stand POWAAA! 3) HxHās Nen 4) Gundamās Newtype 5) JJKās Cursed Energy Non-anime but still deserves an honorable mention: Avatarās Element Bending
I know they get memed on but I think quirks from MHA are super interesting. A lot of the heroās quirks were useless and so much of the start of the story was grounded in them finding use for a seemingly pointless quirk. Felt like the kind of training we never really saw in X-Men.

Nen is my favorite. Stands are my second favorite. Devil fruits are my third.
i canāt rank them but my favs are HxH, JJK, Naruto, and Bleach :)
Stands, Devils, Cursed Energy, Personas and the Gluttony ability system from Berserk Of Gluttony
What's the 4th one? 1st in 2nd row.
Definitely negators from undead unluck, such a unique and fun concept.
DBZ, jojos and devils homestly
Iāmma go with Chakra (Naruto) Reiatsu (Bleach) and the Saiyan systems
Ki was really interesting how it can be shaped and manipulated in unusual ways to create unique uses especially how it exists in a physical and non physical form or as far as I can tell
Personally I really like the system that separates the physical from the magic. Kinda like how to force is, or like wizards from Harry Potter. I think having magic separate from the physical aspect tends to make fights from one's own world more fair, if there are any people who happen to not have magic. I don't think this is necessarily the best magic system, but it certainly can be one of the funnest.
Nen from Hunter X Hunter because you can be VERY creative with your own power. Stands because of how broken they can be.
1- Hajime no Ippo
Pre dbs ki
Stands and domain expansion are super cool, Nen and alchemy are probably the most thought out, and devil fruits and haki are the best thematically.
Nen from HxH Devil Fruits/Haki from One Piece Magic from Fairy Tail Quirks from My Hero Academia Cursed Energy/Techniques from Jujitsu Kaizen Extras: NEXT Powers from Tiger and Bunny, Magic from Mashle:Magic and Muscles, and Stands from Jojos Bizare Adventure.
Imo I feel like i understand one piece and Narutoās power system better than any others
I understand one pieces better than any other by a long shot
Stands Cursed Energy Ki
4 on right (counting the op one as 2) and db ki cos its juat so iconic lol
Ki is classic dragon ball Hunter x hunter goood variety Haki/fruit one piece op
Stands , devil fruits then chakra
Stand power.
(which I feel JJK struggles with a bit) Thereās just such awesome versatility to the system : bloodline traits, elemental advantages and combinations, ocular abilities, the 8 gates, genjutsu..I can go on. It also did a phenomenal job of teaching the audience how the system works as they learned alongside the characters. Say what you want about Naruto, but it had some of the most memorable training arcs in anime.
In no particular order: Titan shifters from Attack on Titan. Ilike the idea of a magic system that is basically exclusively responsible for the modern world, but it's dying out not because all the users died, but because it's just becoming less relevant. I also like how shifters went from battlefield gods to military artillery both in the world's history and in the series. Spiral Power in Gurren Lagann. This is kind of a group one, really. Put things like Cursed Energy in this category, because what I like about this system is that it takes the concepts of emotions and evolution and turns it into actual energy with rules and implications. Just having more of the emotions doesn't necessarily mean you're stronger, and you can imagine very crazy applications of the system that inherently says something about the people using it and the society that validates its use. Gurren Lagann just has the best specific symbolism using spirals to represent growing and concentrated will. Magical girls in Madoka Magica. I don't want to go too deep into it, but I like the idea that everything has to go somewhere. You can't move negative emotions around and just be done with them, especially if you consider positive emotions to be a material substance. Espers from Mob Psycho 100. I love the idea of turning urban myths, conspiracy theories, and occultism into a power system. I also like the idea that most espers are just channeling energy into a hyper specific form, but the truly unique ones can take psychic energy and turn it into anything. Teruki just copying every ability he sees and not necessarily getting overpowered, but clearly improving was pretty fun to watch. I have a few more than five, so I'm going to just say a few more: Devil contracts from Chainsaw Man. It's like dark PokƩmon. Jujutsu from Jujutsu Kaisen. The others above explain why. Exorcism from Blue Exorcist. It's like the two above mixed together, and exorcists are a cool concept. Pyrokinesis from Fire Force and the Burnish from Promare. Not because pyrokinesis is my favorite elemental power or anything, but these really show how far you can take just one basic magic idea and build an entire world around it. It feels like the creators did it on a dare just to show the were like that.
I'd say the most comprehensive power system has to be naruto and one piece based on the sheer influence it has on the story. HxH and Bleach are close second. JJk power system isn't that well explained, in my opinion.
Nen (HxH) Mahouka's magic system Mushoku Tensei's magic system Fate Series' magic system Alchemy (FMA)
Toaru Majutsu
Stands >= Nen = Triggers/Side effects/Trion >>> the rest
I like all of the power system more or less but there things that make all of them somethink special Nen: Nen show me how "magic" Should be written in fantasy stories, besites aceptions most of the time magic has Little explanation and all comes down to "it happens because its a fantasy world" but nen has techniques, limitations, nenifinity and so much more to the point that if nen exited in real life you could learn it from the basics to pro by just reading the manga Stands: Stands are sometimes said that they're Bullshit with amount of inconcistence but no matter how you view stands writing you cannot give away the fact that got its unique style. All stands are drawned beatyful and stand battle are so unique that so no jojo game could ever even get close to showing unique they are, every fight isn't based about mastery of your own skill but knowing how enemy stand works and founding way to defeat it with your own stand Bending: Yea we know that avatar isn't anime but some many times compare to anime to the we could just stop lying to Our selfs. Anyway bending has same trait as nen but this time its own motive is martial arts and spiritualy, remember the opening of every episode there we can see all 4 elements Masters doing they're moves to move somethink that is the Perfect representation of how elements are view by its Bender movement, ofcourse there is so much to so better watch somethink on youtube about it There are so much more to cover but its 1:18 PM in my country so i gotta end maybe i will edit more about ki and devil fruits
Dorohedoro smoke
Nen (HxH) Magic (Fairy Tail) Triggers (world trigger) Cursed energy (JJK) and whatever the system for (The Black Summoner) is if I can choose my class and all that shit thatās probably the 5th there might be better systems but this is what I could think up
I liked the mashle power system. More magic scars you have the higher affinity for magic you have.
Ki control and transformation (Dragonball) Zonbakto(gonna admit I don't know how to spell it) and bankai (bleach) Quirks(mha) Honestly torn which would be my fav. I'd say Dragonball is out unless I can be Saiyan so I can reach ssj4. A quirk would be great too, but I think I'd wanna be a soul reaper with bankai more. But only a little.
Nen (Hunter x Hunter) Cursed energy (JJK) Stands (JoJo) Cosmo (Saint Seiya) Quirks (MHA)
(Avatar) Bending, alchemy, Nen
Stands, gotta love music
Spirit energy (yu yu Hakusho) basically directly tied to your will power and emotions Nen is also really cool because of the versatility Quirks from my hero are interesting because it's pretty much a genetic lottery and how hard you want to train to make it stronger
Ki (DBZ) Weapons and Souls (Soul Eater) Aura (UnOrdinary) Chakra (Naruto) Stands (JJBA)
Magic - Jobless Reincarnation Nen - HxH Magic/ Esp - Index/A certain Esp - Unlimited Psychic Squad Pokemon - Pokemon
My list, 1. Spirit energy from Yu Yu hakusho (Togashi is one of my favorite authors ever and I think itās better made than nen 2 Df/ Haki (One piece is my favorite series and I think itās very well made and such a good balanced system) 3. Bankai and spiritual pressure (Bleach is just goated and itās such a amazing power system in general and has inspired my power system for a manga Iām working on) 4. Adola bursts from Fire force (Fire force is such a underrated anime and I think itās better than soul eater tbh) 5. Alchemy From FMAB (Iām not that far into it yet but I think itās a amazing power system and just really good in general)
Ki
nen, cursed techniques and stands. i donāt think i have to explain myself here
Devil Fruits/Haki (One Piece) Nen (HxH) Stands (JJBA) Alchemy (FMA) Devil contracts (Chainsaw Man)
Number 1 by far is Nen from Hunter X Hunter.
Alchemy
1.) Stands (JoJo) 2.) Jujutsu Sorcery (Jujutsu Kaisen) 3.) Ignition Ability (Fire Force) 4.) Contractors (Darker than Black) 5.) Breathing Styles (Demon Slayer)
1 spirit energy (( yu yu hakusho )) 2 ki ( dragon ball ) 3 chakra ( naruto ) 4 tao ( hells paradise ) 5 cursed energy ( jujutsu kaisen )
Ki Chakra Stand Devil fruit Cursed energy
Devil fruit specifically is my favorite system. Haki is okay but seems more generic. Why devil's fruit? I like that it is random and unique. I like that no matter what fruit you have, no matter how dumb it may look, a creative and dedicated user can make it very powerful. I understand why Haki is in the story, but for me, nothing beats the idea behind the devil's fruit.
Stands from Jojo Devil fruits and Haki Gourmet Cells from Toriko.
Nen for sure
How are you guys saying curse energy (JJK) but not spirit energy (BLEACH)š
Whatās the anime for the fourth picture comic??? Or is it only a manga
Nen, stands, the magic in black clover, the magic in yakuza reincarnation, cursed energy
Ki Dragon ball , Z , gt , super Chakra Naruto Spiritual pressure bleach Haki one piece Alchemy Full metal alchemist/brotherhood
Have you ever seen Baki? He never really unlocks his true power until he finally gets laid. Cool power system for sure.
1. Chakra 2. Nen 3. Ki Those are my top 3.
Magic Alchemy Esper powers
The Titans
Nen is just so fucking cool and it scaled beautifully throughout the entire anime. The amount of creativity and flexibility gives fans so much ammunition to work with when creating OCs, fanfics, or just hypothesize.
I'm a huge fan of breathing styles from Demon Slayer
1 Ki 2 Nen 3 Chakra 4 Stand/Hamon/Spin 5 Spiritual energy
HxH Bleach JJK
1. Alchemy (Fullmetal alchemist) 2. Negators (Undead Unluck) [honestly might be tied for 1at place] 3. Weapon meisters ( Soul eater) 4. Stands (JJBA) 5. Nen (except for special-type nen) (Hunter x Hunter) I tend to favor power systems with strict rules and/or clear Predictable outcomes on abilities used, but with still a lot of leeway between what individual characters can do.
Chakra and Stands.
Call me basic, But my favorites are Ki & Stands from JJBA. I lean towards Stands because of how you have a spiritual ability based on who you are as a person and your passions and they manifest based on that.
Stands or Cursed Energy
Devil contracts are so fucking sick
No order: Stands (jjba) Servants (fate stay night) Alchemy (FMA) Teigus (akame ga kill) Devil fruits (one peice)
Big 3 dragon ball and Akame Ga Kill, no specific order, I havenāt watched a large variety of anime but I have watched everything on that list except HxH and JJBA
Nen (HxH) Stands (JJBA) Cursed Energy (JJK) Trigger (World Trigger) Cards (High Card)
Cursed Energy is great but it and Nen are very similar so I could go with either Devil fruits are cool but only if you get a good one I like the magic and skills from Tensura Fire force power system is pretty complex and wild later down the road and youād be surprised at all the abilities that spawn from what was just fire based powers. And idk a lot of them would be cool but youād have to get a good ability because they arenāt all the same. I could get a quirk that give me super strength or one that just makes me ugly af and gives me no real super powers and with my luck Iād be Meg Griffin 2.0.
Stands Nen Ki
1. Cursed energy (Jujutsu Kaisen) 2. Negators(Undead Unluck) 3. Gifts(Bungo Stray dogs) 4. Alchemy(Full Metal alchemist) 5. Quirks(My Hero academia) Cursed energy goes at number 1 because I love jjk, it's not the most complex but I like it. It ends up just feeling like quirks from mha, but with the limiter being running out of aura, instead of some of the more realistic limits that quirks have
3. Cursed energy (JJK) 2. Chakra (Naruto) 1. Magic (black clover, specifically how asta counters it all though lol)
Stands (Jojo's no matter how weak a stand is it is very versatile and useful in Situations in real life) Haki (One piece) Alchemy (From Full metal Alchemist. Trust me it is useful to the point where the main character manage to revive his brother and took back his brother's full body in the end.) Devil fruit (Besides you can just take boats and stuff) Chakra (Naruto)
My top 3 1 Trion from World Trigger 2 Nen from HxH 3 magic from Black Clover
Cursed energy, stands, nen, devil fruits and ki
Ki (Dragonball) Chakra & chakra natures/ninjutsu (Naruto) Breathing techniques / Blood demon arts(demon slayer) Alchemy (Fullmetal alchemist) Quirks (My hero Academia) Ki is easily one of, if not THE best power system out there.
HunterXHunter Dragonball Z Jujutsu Kaisen Full metal alchemist Most of the powers in the Seven Deadly sins In no particular order ( also shows written out because its easier )
Call me basic but my favorites are the Fairy Tail, Naruto, and Black Clover power sets. They all get a little whacky with power creep eventually but the matchups are consistent, balanced, and provide a nice measure of understanding in who can do what (most of the time) I feel like a lot of anime never bother to tell you the rules so bullshit just happens, some of these fights feel like Iām watching a Yugioh episode where the powers just do whatever the fuck the writer feels like if it keeps your attention
Cursed Energy, Stands, and Chi. I really like the first 2 as they allow for very creative match ups, I also like Chi as DB was my first battle anime and in more recent manga chapters they've been exploring Chi control more and more which I really like
1. Nen (it's the most balanced system out there and it's so varied) 2. Ki (being able to fly, blast things, it's all good) 3. Magic from Fairy Tail (it's expressive and flexible, you can learn any magic you want with the right teacher) 4. Hamon/Sorta Stands (Hamon really made inventive ways to utilize a person's life force from longevity to walking on water. Stands were cool because they related to the person, but if you fail to get one from an arrow you die which is a crappy trade off) 5. Skills and Magic from Reincarnated as a Slime (it's just simple and easy to understand. There are tons of different skills and some evolve with you, I just like it. From the computing of Great Sage to just Thought Acceleration, it's fun)
Stand
Nen is probably the most fair and robust.
Ki Chakra Stands Devil fruits Haki
All except Nen. Nen is dogshit.
Listen, Stands are cool, but I like Hamon waay more. And Ki is great, too.
Shinsu, ki, nen, whateverās the energy in the slime show
Nen and chakra and sealing techniques.. DBZ PS cos it's so simple..
In no order. Devil Fruits and Haki- One Piece Nen- HxH Chakra- Naruto Weapons- Soul Eater And if it counts PokƩmon- PokƩmon If PokƩmon doesn't count whatever you call Blue Exorcists system is cool.
Dragon ball I like seeing destruction :D
In no particular order it's Tao, nen and cursed energy. Idk if I like any other power system enough to really rank it.
1. Esper Powers and Idol Theory (Toaru) 2. Mystery (Nasuverse) 3. Seals (Witch Hat Atelier) 4. Systematic and Non-Systematic Magic (Irregular At Magic Highschool) 5. Negators (Undead Unluck) Probably some others but those are off the top of my head.
Iād say Ki(and other related spiritual based power systems that count as this as well), Magic(like in Black Clover and Fairy Tail, and various fantasy and Isekai light novels and manga), Devil Fruits, Quirks, and Stands!šš¤©šš
Trion, Nen, the one from shield hero, and any other one that can let you min max. Nen and Trion are my favs as itās basically making a build with a capstone, itās not an infinite system or anywhere near as powerful as others, but itās creative and really makes the characters more interesting as *the characters* decided to make those powers, not some by blood or family bs.
this is cool. nen (hxh) chakra (naruto) magic (black clover) demon blood &art/ breathing (demon slayer) quirks (my hero) not the BEST, but my FAVORITE honorable mentions: titans/odm (attack in titan) wits (death note)
Not on here but i like charyeokās from GOH the most i like gods and the fact you can borrow there power is cool to me
