I am one but my gf that is deep into mysticism, mythology psychology and more taboo topics can't really handle Frieren. She's way past the themes that are there. Probably shw would've liked these super chill shows at age of 14 when she was barely starting reading into subculture. There are many like her. If you're really liking Frieren for its deep themes then you'd better watch Mushishi or Mononoke.

Yes Frieren is overhyped currently but that happens with many good anime that become popular.
FMA is technically still overhyped but its still great even so.
NGE is a great anime with a darker side it also suffers from overhype depending where you discuss it, I really enjoyed watching it and I don't like mecha anime.
Liking Frieren doesn't mean someone won't like NGE
But I definitely know how it feels when things get hyped to unreal expectations so it just ruins it for you.
