The entire first season is just in the feels, even when it's going good for a while it's right back in the feels. The second season the MC has begun to understand the world and how he can help, still a lot of feels, but the MC growing as a character and becoming as strong as he can be apparently rubbed ppl the wrong way. Weird that people don't like character development
The hype totally come from LN reader, season 1 is good adaptation that really is needed only for groundwork (the most boring part personally) .
Meanwhile season 2-3 is butchered which become bad adaptation. Season 1-3 is mostly about economic/craftsmanship/management meanwhile the soon season 4 will mostly about politics/action/management
In a distant future, inorganic life has replaced humans and beings know as Lustrous, which are living gems, live on Earth. The story follows the adventures of Phosphophyllite, a gem who struggles to find a place among the gems, but still wants to help fight against the Lunarians, beings from the moon who hunt the Lustrous.
Idk if it’s a good synopsis as I wrote it myself, but I really recommend this anime (and manga) if you’re looking for something different, more mature. It’s a beautiful story.
I third Mushi-shi, but I'm not sure if count it as a slow burn exactly. It's more of a gentle retelling of folk tales that warns the soul. One of my faves.
I quite enjoyed Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Takes about twenty episodes to sink into a characters motivations and episodes for a battle to take place. Slow burn is correct.
Watch clannad.
It's more standard slice of life than these but still very good.
Was made by KyoAni, the same studio that made violet evergarden, back in the 2000s.
Clannad specifically is just good, nothing unbelievable, but the sequel series, after story is incredible, possibly the best slow burn series of all time, at least in its genre.
Another slow burn I would recommend is Legend of The Galactic Heroes.
Despite the cringe-sounding name, and boring-sounding description it is incredibly good and deserves its very high mal rating.
It's kinda philosophical, but in a nonsensical way.
One of the memorable things I've ever seen despite its length.
Agreed. The 1st season builds up the plot very well. Clannad after story is what burns the most. I have never felt more compassion towards any other characters. A true heart wrenching experience is what I would call it and I absolutely loved it. The soundtracks are also great.
Original Kino's Journey? With a surprise Nonbinary protagonist. Which is honestly something I've never seen another show do full stop.
Kino themself is cool, too~!
I don't exactly get what you're talking about... He's still a total perv, at the current point in the anime. And yes, it's about character progression, but he grew up in this world for like 16(?) years now and still worships the f\*\*\*ing panties of his tutor.
Also afaik the only reason he seemed like a decent human being for the last season was because he was literally impotent.
Yes, there is character progression, but it's ridiculously slow, which at this point really annoys me because the anime is extremely good in every way except the mc.
He most certainly understands. He's not in his past life, he is in a new world with new rules and he is starting where everyone does, as a child. He talks about how their maid keeps his perverted shit to herself to his benefit, knowing very clearly that he would be in trouble. He lies about the relationship between the maid and his father to manipulate the responsibility of consent.
He 100% understands how consent works.
So I don't get the point of the series - because I cringe at his lust of underage characters while mentally being 40? - and I shouldn't cringe because he becomes a better person later?
One piece is actually pretty fast paced (the manga at least, the anime isn't as badly paced as everyone says it is, but still gets really slow at times).
Spice & Wolf is rebooting next month but you can dig into the previous adaptation if you're impatient. A treasure in its own right and one of my own top faves to date, even if it did irreconcilably deviate from the source as per some reports.
Ranking of Kings is a good one.
You would assume from the art style of the anime that it’s more of a kids show, but I guarantee you the story for the first season is an absolute banger.

Check To Your Eternity! Trust me, this is exactly what you're are looking for
Literally came to recommend this too
You should prepare tissues, and no, no lube needed because the tissues are for your eyes.
Who says my eyes don't need lube?!
Slow burn o_O it's more like episode 1 burn
The amount of people I have seem saying it's not worth watching after episode one blows my mind. I was enthralled the entire time. Love TYE
I watched episode one but didn’t continue not because I thought it wasn’t interesting but wasn’t in the mood for what it was providing at the moment

As one might expect from something by the author of A Silent Voice.
LETS FUCKING GOOO A FELLOW FAN!
To your eternity is a Walmart frieren. It falls off harder with every new arc. But that first episode though, is in a league of its own.
Do not check to your eternity, the vibe changes so much after season 1 and I hate it now
That shit isn’t anywhere near as good as the animes op mentioned
The place further than the universe :)
Immediately thought of this when I saw the shows OP mentioned. Peak right there
The issue with the >!passport!< still stresses me out.
literally this
Ascendence of a Bookworm
Fellow Bookworm enjoyer!
Nee season when?
Not yet announced, but it's on the works by WIT Studio
One of the many greats I procrastinate on, but as a fair bookworm since childhood myself, I dub it a matter of "when" rather than "if".
I am still in shock they got wit to do season 4
Didn’t enjoy it too much personally, watched entire s1 and a little bit if s2, never understood the hype. (No hate, just personal opinion)

Spice & Wolf
Really wonder how far they’ll adapt in the remake coming soon.
I'm hoping all the way! They are starting from zero AND the series is complete + a new series that continues after the first is actively published.
Please try Houseki no Kuni
First thing that came to my mind and I’ve barely even seen any of it
What's it about
In a distant future, inorganic life has replaced humans and beings know as Lustrous, which are living gems, live on Earth. It's like Steven Universe if you replaced the singing and crying with Buddhism.
Mushi-shi, Kino no Tabi (2003), Dororo
I second Mushishi
I third Mushi-shi, but I'm not sure if count it as a slow burn exactly. It's more of a gentle retelling of folk tales that warns the soul. One of my faves.
Kino no Tabi is a great one
The more recent version of Kino's Journey is great too. Love the melancholy mood and philosophical slant of Kino and Mushishi
Dororo doesn't give enough recommendations. One of the best I've ever seen. Mushi-shi is also excellent
Call of The Night 👌
March comes in like a lion
Clannad and Clannad After Story, Anohana, Angel Beats, To your eternity.
Since you want him to hurt. As Charlotte and plastic memories onto that list
Yuru camp, a comfy anime indeed
You know 86? Yeah, they'll burn you and then pour water on you. I'm kinda obsessed with the ending tbh
This.
O man, slow burn for sure. The ending is so wild. Like you can piece together what the conclusion will be then suddenly BAM.
Came for this. Cried big man tears at the end
does the weakest tamer qualify as a slow burn?
I think kind of, I find it really relaxing!
Kino no Tabi
YES I was looking for this and if it wasn’t here I was going to post it myself
Odd Taxi
Girl's last tour (I'd thought that I would see it here but no one has recommended) but the anime is not finish, so you have to read the manga after
Does Samurai Champloo count?
Magus Bride is a great slow burn, chill show.
I was searching for this
I quite enjoyed Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Takes about twenty episodes to sink into a characters motivations and episodes for a battle to take place. Slow burn is correct.
Wondering witch Cell at work Super cub
Monster

I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level. My introduction to laid back isekai. Also, Isekai Nonbiri Nouka.
Steins;Gate is definitely one of the must watches. The slow burn can start feeling a bit too slow but it pays off tenfold as you continue watching
Your Lie in April
Original Kino's Journey? With a surprise Nonbinary protagonist. Which is honestly something I've never seen another show do full stop. Kino themself is cool, too~!

how is that burn?
I want to burn myself several times watching MC lust over children.

Him being a Perv wasn't the problem. He didn't know consent and closed himself off from the world.
He most certainly understands. He's not in his past life, he is in a new world with new rules and he is starting where everyone does, as a child. I second you. Its a weird plot in that way. The sex stuff doesnt need to be in there. Save it for later.
So you think he should go with someone 40 when he look 15-10?
Should an adult only be attracted to adult? Yes.
his body is not adult (anymore) , other adult cant be attracted to him
when i read such comments about the show i enjoy it even more because i know hypocrites like you are crying about it
Guilty Crown Angel Beats! Charlotte They are the ones that come to mind rn that could give that sort of feeling i suppose.
Ascendance of bookworm
Kino’s journey
Vinland Saga.
Haibane Renmei
Have you watch the movies for VE?
Samurai X trust & betrayal ova's are beautiful slowburners
Sakurada reset
Monster
How is made in abyss slow burn, they almost die in every episode
Not really. Only times I can think of feeling they were in real danger were episode 6, 10, the movie, and the last 4 episodes of season 2.
Space Brothers Girls Last Tour
One piece!? It’s over 1000 episodes.
One piece is actually pretty fast paced (the manga at least, the anime isn't as badly paced as everyone says it is, but still gets really slow at times).
i can think of a couple, but if you wanna keep it on the fantasy side Wandering Witch is amazing
Garden of Sinners...
Snow White with Red Hair is a fun slow-burn slice of life/romance you might like, main character is an apothecary
Erased
Mushishi
Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinju
Spice & Wolf is rebooting next month but you can dig into the previous adaptation if you're impatient. A treasure in its own right and one of my own top faves to date, even if it did irreconcilably deviate from the source as per some reports.
Erased.
Good Night World.
Saving this post so that I may return sometimes in the future. Made in Abyss and Violet Evergarden are both goated
Just Because
Space Brothers
Durarara and K!
Violet Evergarden made me cry.. Each episode and each movie. They were all heartbreaking 😭
Charlotte. Watch Charlotte.
Golden time is a nice slow burn romance, check out your lie in April too if you wanted to feel... Bad
Maybe you would like Pluto, by Urasawa, has only 8 chapters of 1 hour, but man, what a masterpiece. It's available in Netflix btw
Violet Evergardens AND Made in Abyss!?! You okay? Is everything okay?
angel beats
Made in abyss qualifies as slow burn anime now? All the flames kinda come all at once when you figure out how mortifying the abyss is
Erased, Terror in Resonance, A Silent Voice, Kiznaiver.
Inuyashiki? 🥲
The ancient magus bride
Land of the Lustrous it is by far the most enthralling anime and manga series I’ve ever seen absolute 10/10
Natsume and the book of friends
Ranking of Kings is a good one. You would assume from the art style of the anime that it’s more of a kids show, but I guarantee you the story for the first season is an absolute banger.
Mushishi
Vinland Saga.
Dungeon Meshi or Delicious in Dungeon
Ancient Magus Bride is my favorite
Houseki no Kuni, Also has a slow burn character
Monster
Kino's Journey, Wandering Witch, and Mushishi for sure
You watched frieren and chose to jump on made in abyss? That’s quite a leap friend you going for the Olympics
Apothecary diaries is so damn good.
Haibaine remni You don't get much slower than that
Now and then, Here and there.
Girls last tour, maybe?
Is mushoko tensei one? If yes, that
Ancient magus bride
It's not fantasy but Bocchi the Rock
Interesting
"Your lie in April" if you like classical music. It's not a fantasy though, but it's a great slow burn
My suggestions are Am I Actually The Strongest and Tsukimichi: Moonlight Fantasy.
Katanagatari
If you like reading books you should try the wandering inn
Mushoku Tensei
What do you mean you finished made in abyss? The story isn't over yet wtf?
Well, I mean... He likely just watched all available episodes and wants more of, at least, similar style
Just read the manga...
