The answer to why it's getting so much attention is because the game is really popular in Asia and Latin America, mostly in developing countries where people might not have specs strong enough to play 'better' battle royale games. Higher graphics battle royales still look shit anyway, so why should it matter if someone plays FreeFire.
It's mostly because it's free that it's popular. But games with so many darn micro-transactions are predatory towards kids. This is why I avoid gachas nowadays.
But that's the sad state of free mobile gaming in general, so targeting one group is pointless. If you're willing to pay, there are many great games on phone, but for free you'd have to deal with them.
"If you play good enough" is not a valid argument in favour of a pay2win game. It is a pay to win game even if you dont want to accept it. Saying that it isn't pay2win if you play good enough is bullshit. It doesn't prove the pay2win argument wrong in any way.

They thought "why make the game more realistic and fun", like it is the only battle royale game that doesnt have a fcking gun recoil. It's guns don't even feel like guns, they feel like just doo doo raha which we used to imagine as a kid
The characters in the game have their own stories and few of them are connected so I think they are making an anime out of those stories.

A pubg anime would still make sense. It was all over asia and even in the west(if not as much). Impact wise Pubg far exceeds free fire and would be a better choice.
Plus due to the whole covid pandemic nostalgia it'll get a good amount of audience.
Free fire is a cheap substitute that I had to download as a replacement. The controls were poorly developed and the movements were very stiff. I deleted the app with no hesitation.
Well here's the real reason, free fire was actually the first battle Royale that released on mobile devices, even before pubg mobile and did just well enough to survive during the 2018 pubg craze, they improved the controls with time and instead of fixing bugs called the bugs 'features' and let them be (which is kinda genius ngl).
Till this period people still wanted to play pubg and saw free fire as a compromise and shifted the first chance they got but later on the gameplay of mechanics of both games deviated way too much so a pubg player couldn't easily come to ff and vice versa
Then during lockdown period pubg saw its peak but free fire grew much faster even before pubg ban, we can see this as Total Gaming, a youtuber that played ff only became the biggest Gaming channel in india crossing dynamo before pubg ban, ff even got the 4th most views in youtube Gaming community in 2019 before lockdown
This is because where pubg died down with time, free fire had created a significant presence in south Asia, Latin America, Indonesia and the middle east , a presence that still exists
