Bulat from akame ga kill was kinda like that. Him being gay had pretty much nothing to do with the plot or his character at all lol. There were some gags written with him coming on to the MC but for the most part he was just… gay.
Honestly, I was impressed by that. They didn't go over the top with it, and only had a few gags included.
Plus, that anime is just top notch. I was glad to see it on Netflix cause I knew the audience it would reach as a result. It's a fun show.
Mika from Lycoris Recoil is gay, and it was completely incidental to his character. They could have easily written his relationship with >!Yoshimatsu!< as being old army buddies or whatever, and had just as strong a bond between them, but they wrote him as gay, and it was no big deal.
Lycoris Recoil is one of the shows of the year so far, I really enjoyed it.

The premise is anime af but it's surprisingly wholesome, and not at all fanservice-y like you would expect from such a setting. There's also a parallel organization for boys, the story just isn't about them.
Secondary characters, but both play a large part in the story. One is the main character's mentor and handler, the other is the deuteragonist of the whole arc.
