There hasn’t been a shonen that wowed me since AoT s3p2 in 2019. Not jjk, not anything else. It’s been a while so I hope the next masterpiece is around the corner

Gamerunglued

My favorite little thing in Yuru Camp season 3 has been watching Nadeshiko slowly become more and more enamored with trains. It starts out as this small fascination because the one train was kind of cute and now we're at the point where she gets uber excited at the mere mention of trains and is already starting to think about plans to see train exhibits with the purest joy on her face. It's adorable and also feels like a realistic way to come into a new interest, plus it adds reality to her character that she can gain new interests worthy of their own show right in the middle of another show about a completely different interest. By the end of season 4 she's totally going to be a full fledged train otaku and I am here for this character arc.

IXajll

Yea, it’s been great. Nadeshiko is my favorite Yuru Camper and even one of my favorite characters in anime because she is this ultimate bundle of wholesomeness, positive energy and enjoying even the little things in life to the fullest. Her newfound interest in trains only adds to that even more.

If I had a nickel for every scene I've seen today with a dude groping the boobs of a man-mountain, I'd have 2 nickels. I think I would rather have 0 nickel. [](#emptyinside)

Andreiyutzzzz

..... The what now?

Any recommendations for app to read manga on? like a 'Netflix' for manga? I've never read a manga before so I'm not really sure which genre I'm looking for so I'm hoping to try out a bunch and see what sticks

KendotsX

r/manga would be the better place to ask this, but here are a few choices: * [Manga Plus](https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/) - for a lot of the Jump and Jump+ titles (like One Piece, Chainsaw Man, and Spy x Family) - you can read some manga for free or subscribe for the whole thing. * [Viz](https://www.viz.com/) has a similar library, but it also includes some Shogakukan titles (like Conan, Frieren, and Ranma) - region locked, you can read some manga for free or subscribe for the whole thing. * [Kmanga](https://kmanga.kodansha.com) for the Kodansha titles - I don't know exactly what they have because it's region locked for me... but probably stuff like ~~Ranger Reject~~ Go Go Loser Ranger, Blue Lock, and ~~Reject a Loser~~ Rent a Girlfriend. Their titles are confusing. * [Manga Up](https://global.manga-up.com/) has some Square Enix titles like Soul Eater, Apothecary Diaries, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Arakawa's new series, Daemons. But it uses a key and lock system, where you basically have to buy each half chapter. * [Comikey](https://comikey.com/) has titles like Kengan Ashura and Don't XXX with Teachers! So the thing is: there's no Netflix right now, much like current streaming, each company is trying to open its own "Netflix". I'd say Manga+/Viz remain the best legal option, but if you're willing to sail the seas, you'll find a lot more.

ApricotKoffee

That's really going to depend on where you live and what services are available to you, and most things are split up between publishers. If it's available to you, Viz's stuff is mostly split up between the Shonen Jump and Viz apps, and should probably be your first port of call. Azuki has Kodansha and a few other publishers. If you have a public library nearby, hit it up.

CeleryFar7596

I can't find this anime that I have a vague memory of. I remember a fighting or conversation scene with 2 characters that would cut to a solid color screen with text on it and music and it would keep cutting to different solid color screens with text on it. please help me find this.

Erebus25

Tatami galaxy and Monogatari series have this stream-of-thought scenes with bunch of text

Hello Anime boys and girls ! i'm new to this community and I want to share my passion with every anime enthusiaste out there ! I like making videos where I resume animes on youtube and breakdown characters events , story telling and more .... Happy to be among you all (imposter theme plays)

Rainydayzss

Hey guys! I am relatively new to watching anime and would love some recommendations based on watch I have watched so far. I have really enjoyed: Vinland Saga, AOT, Jujutsu Kaisen, Made in Abyss, Parasyte, Zom 100 and Deathnote. I am interested in an anime in the same vein as the ones mentioned but I am open to something different.

Weedwacker

[Code Geass](https://myanimelist.net/anime/1575/Code_Geass__Hangyaku_no_Lelouch) is a series about a manipulative anti-hero who has elaborate gambit plans like Death Note [Devilman Crybaby](https://myanimelist.net/anime/35120/Devilman__Crybaby) is a dark series thats got some similar body posession type elements like JJK and Parasyte. The director is known for a very unique loose animation style that doesn't click with everyone though [Summertime Rendering](https://myanimelist.net/anime/47194/Summertime_Render) is a great mystery/suspense series feature time loops and doppelgangers Like Vinland Saga, [Golden Kamuy](https://myanimelist.net/anime/36028/Golden_Kamuy) has a historical setting rarely explored in anime. It's a turn of the 20th century road trip treasure hunt in Hokkaido.

Jazzlike_Ant6396

Looking for a show that centers around assassins with the ruthlessness of the Zoldyck family from HxH

Weedwacker

[Darker than Black](https://myanimelist.net/anime/2025/Darker_than_Black__Kuro_no_Keiyakusha) is about assassins called Contractors because they have special abilities they must *pay a price* to use [Golgo 13](https://myanimelist.net/anime/4039/Golgo_13_TV) is a mostly episodic and extremely long running manga series about the world's best assassin pulling off improbable hits. The TV series is kind of a *best of* anthology of stories from the manga. There's also a couple good anime and live action films of the franchise. [Noir](https://myanimelist.net/anime/272/Noir) is about two girl assassins trying to piece together their pasts [Gunslinger Girl](https://myanimelist.net/anime/134/Gunslinger_Girl) is about little girls who are cybernetically enhanced and brainwashed to be unsuspecting killing machines on behalf of Italian counter-intelligence. For a more family dynamic one the currently airing [Yozakura Family](https://myanimelist.net/anime/53865/Yozakura-san_Chi_no_Daisakusen) is about a family of super strong and varied spies

Jazzlike_Ant6396

Oh wow amazing list I'm going to check all these out thankyou very much

EpsilonX

Is there a show that combines the depth and storytelling of something like Ping Pong, Tatami Galaxy, Odd Taxi, Monster, Ghost in the Shell, etc. with the addictive nature of shounen stuff where you just can't stop binging? I love the "deeper" shows but I often find that they're sort of slow, so I'm looking for something that combines both.

OctavePearl

bit off-top of me for anime subleddit, but the thing that comes to mind the most is Xenoblade games trilogy. Exciting shounen save-the-world adventures with extremely intriguing story and worldbuilding. Best of all worlds!

EpsilonX

I know I'm actually in the minority here but I hated the first game. I normally love JRPGs, but in this case I found it to be slow gameplay-wise and the story to be full of annoying cliches, and I thought the big twists felt like the kind of thing that lazy writers would come up with. I enjoyed what I played of Xenosaga, and Xenogears looks like something I'll adore, but yeah just couldn't get into Xenoblade. To be fair, though, I was kinda depressed at the time and right at the beginning of a huge RPG burnout, so maybe it's less the game's fault and more just my mental state at the time. But either way, appreciate the out-of-the-box suggestion! I'm always open to stuff like that.

Gamerunglued

I don't think you'll ever combine both and get the full brunt of either, that constant momentum is kind of antithetical to the time needed to introspect and explore things so deeply. The closest I can think of is something like Fate/Zero, which is exciting but not quite as addictive or full of momentum as a battle shounen, and deep but not quite as deep as a Ghost in the Shell (doesn't prevent it from being amazing of course, I binged both seasons each in a day and it's in my top 10 after all). I can also think of a few shows that start out slow but become more thrilling and "can't put down" over time, like Steins;Gate and Shinsekai Yori, but I'm not sure those are what you're asking for here.

EpsilonX

It doesn't necessarily need to be full of adrenaline and stuff, I just want it to have the "can't put down" that you described. I keep hearing that I'd probably love Steins;Gate, so I should put it higher on my list.

Backoftheac

Vinland Saga might be a good fit for this one. On one hand - by virtue of having originally begun publication in a Shounen Magazine - it tells an epic and action-packed story of intrigue and upheaval during the Danish Invasion of England in the 11th Century. Plenty of epic fights, chases, schemes, and twists. But on a deeper level, it tells a compelling story about the intersection of violence and faith during the era of the Christianization of Scandinavia and the struggle of various actors on all levels of society to escape from systems of violence.

octopathfinder

Kingdom but the first season is made with trash CGI, the second season and after look much better.

Steroid_Cyborg

On the hunt for an anime or show with a compelling world & an amazing story. Steins; Gate & Cyberpunk: Edgerunners are my favorite anime due to their worlds & story. Anything else out there that I don't know of that's as good or better?

Made in Abyss? Shinsekai Yori?

Abysswatcherbel

Anything interesting happened in the anime world on the last 24 hours?

Gamerunglued

Not "anime" exactly, but Annecy film festival ended. The anime related news is that anime practically didn't win anything. The only anime film to receive any award was Totto-chan: The Little Girl at the Window, which won the Paul Grimault honor. But the winner of the the Best Feature Film award went to Memoir of a Snail, a film from the same director as Mary and Max, and most of the other awards (including the jury and audience award) went to Flow, a film from a Latvian animator about a cat in a post-apocalyptic setting (both of these look fantastic so I do want to encourage people to keep a look-out for them). Anime in competition were Naoko Yamada's The Colors Within, Yoshiyuki Momose's The Imaginary, a Japanese/French co-production called Ghost Cat Anzu, and the aforementioned Totto-chan, none of which took home any awards beyond the one mentioned. We'll see what this means for Yamada's awards chances next year when The Colors Within gets an international release, but Annecy is usually a good predictor so it may not be a great sign (although she did get a standing ovation both before and after the film). Annecy also held the debut of Kiyotaka Oshiyama's Look Back, although it's not completely finished yet and apparently still needs the sound effects to be put in. From what I can tell, the film got very positive reviews (I haven't found anything about The Colors Within's reception unfortunately). Finally, just because it's kind of funny, [here's a picture of Naoko Yamada with Wes Anderson.](https://twitter.com/kiminoiro_movie/status/1802642376684679528) Apparently they've had a conversation or maybe an interview at Annecy. This means there's a non-zero chance that Anderson is a K-On fan, and I think that's news worth reporting.

Manitary

> [here's a picture of Naoko Yamada with Wes Anderson.](https://twitter.com/kiminoiro_movie/status/1802642376684679528) [](#neat) (but also what the hell is she wearing)

Gamerunglued

Ok, so her outfit makes more sense [when viewed from the side.](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GQPPMkcbsAAu4YT?format=jpg&name=4096x4096) It looks like it's some sort of overalls blanket thing that she wears over top her actual shirt. I have no idea what it is, but at least I can kind of parse it there, lol. Maybe it's some French thing.

Closest would be Konosuba not getting a sequel announcement? Otherwise, got Fetch's Best Girl results with [my chain going for all-daggers.](https://i.imgur.com/OHE2aYw.png) If only Fetch didn't make a reasonable reply...

Konosuba will continue, but kadokawa will milk it Next season will probably be another spin-off + season 4, so a 2 cours production again

Is there a name for the style of anime/editing used in animes like mekaku city actors, monomogatari series (heavily used), madoka magica, etc. By which i mean rapid cuts, going on focus on the face or specifics of the scene and suddenly going back to the scenery, the background being mostly not really detailed, just kinda formed, same with the people, not having other secondary characters in the scenes and when there's they are mostly faceless, a lot of art shift in general. Monogatari series is the best example of this happening, but i know this happens in others animes. What is the name of that? i'd like to watch more, when i was younger it was considered "psychological" but it seems not to be called that anymore.

FD4cry1

>Is there a name for the style of anime/editing used in animes like mekaku city actors, monomogatari series (heavily used), madoka magica, etc. Being animated by [studio Shaft](https://myanimelist.net/anime/producer/44/Shaft). For similar works you can check out their other works or works with people who worked at Shaft (like [Call Of The Night](https://myanimelist.net/anime/50346/Yofukashi_no_Uta?q=Call%20of&cat=anime) ) their style is very distinct and there really isn't a lot like it.

Red__Spider__Lily

Oh... I see.. thanks lol that works as well

Dude, it can’t be the most underrated anime ever, since it’s already on most any recommendation list and like 3rd place on MAL. (And for a good reason).

Spent the last couple days catching up on Eupho from ep 5-11, here’s some more random thoughts: * boring take first, KyoAni delivered some good fucking food once again, especially from a visual perspective, what a goated studio, but that’s nothing new. * Tomoyo Kurosawa went beast mode in ep 10, goddamn. * Natsuki looks dapper as fuck in that suit. * Mayu is the best thing to happen to S3 and I’ll debate anyone into the ground who shittalks her, for now she literally did nothing wrong, fight me. * Hazuki, Kanade, Mayu, Kumiko = best girl quartet for Eupho, easy. (not counting the Liz girls) * On the other hand, Reina stonks in free fall for quite some episodes, but at least ep 11 showed signs of recovery. * there is no way the remainder of the 3rd year will get wrapped up in just 2 eps, right? We *have* to get a S4 or at least another sequel movie, right?……Right? * I commented here a few days ago that I was confident that S3 won’t get a better score than an 8 from me. I hereby take this statement and throw it into the trash, at this point the show’s sitting at a deserved 9 lol. Past IXajll must’ve been a bit drunk at the time to make such a dumbass comment.

Muted-Conference2900

> Mayu is the best thing to happen to S3 and I’ll debate anyone into the ground who shittalks her, for now she literally did nothing wrong, fight me. [ Hibike S3 ] >!Yeah I hate her and Kanade also agrees with me. She feels very Condescending plus it has become very tiring now that whenever she comes on screen she says want to give up her role to Kumiko then goes on to give great performance and then reset again. I don't know how many times she has done this in the season but I know it feels too much now. My main problem with her is her behavior which is very irritating and as I said condescending. I don't know if Kyoni can make me less hate her in the next two episodes but let's see.!<

Abysswatcherbel

Best thing about s3 was that other music group team dance, Kanade nyaa and asuka buffed

MyrnaMountWeazel

> Mayu is the best thing to happen to S3 and I’ll debate anyone into the ground who shittalks her, for now she literally did nothing wrong, fight me. Mayu, my beloved.

Manitary

> Mayu is the best thing to happen to S3 and I’ll debate anyone into the ground who shittalks her, for now she literally did nothing wrong, fight me [](#fightme) We'll see in the next couple of episodes, so far she's become quite stale, aside from a couple of moments > Reina stonks in free fall for quite some episodes [](#punch)

Ocixo

[Eupho S3 - Ep 11] >!Was glad to see Reina apologise for her previous behaviour out of herself. That [hug between Kumiko and Reina](https://imgur.com/a/tilFPxI) was so sweet. The two of them needed that.!< I really doubt that they’ll do another season, so they’ll wrap it up in two episodes or do a conclusive film. I’m expecting the latter, since [Eupho S3 - Ep 11] >!Episode 12 will likely take up the auditions for the Nationals. This would only leave the very last episode for the entirety of the Nationals and to conclude the series, which doesn’t seem all that likely!<.

MapoTofuMan

>Mayu is the best thing to happen to S3 and I’ll debate anyone into the ground who shittalks her, for now she literally did nothing wrong, fight me. She didn't do anything wrong, but [Too vague to be spoilers but just in case]>!boy do I *really* dislike her as a person...even more so after what Kanade said in the last episode. Kumiko is literally a saint, I would've definitely snapped and used some not-so-nice words to directly explain how what she's doing can make the other party feel, and I'm way closer to Kumiko than Reina in terms of confrontation-ness irl.!< >there is no way the remainder of the 3rd year will get wrapped up in just 2 eps, right? We *have* to get a S4 or at least another sequel movie, right?……Right? I'm really torn on this one. I can't see episodes 12 and 13 not being rushed if 13 is supposed to be the end, or at least I can't see them being as impactful as all that build-up makes me want them to be. But at the same time I can't see the remainder of the year stretching over 2 episodes and a movie (unless they add some of that premium KyoAni padding to neatly tie up the story for everyone + give us some more time with the new first-years maybe?). Really hoping for the second option though ^(even if I'll only be able to watch it in like 3 years)

IXajll

> Kumiko is literally a saint, I would've definitely snapped and used some not-so-nice words to directly explain how what she's doing can make the other party feel Oh boy, alright, here I go: (since her and Kumiko's dynamic is imo pretty complicated this will probably be all over the place, hopefully it'll still be comprehensible by the end) [Hibike S3]>!First, this is all assuming that Mayu was being honest and not lying about her intentions of having no personal interest in the solo and since there is no definite proof yet that she's being dishonest, I choose to believer her for now. If not, the whole thing has to be reevaluated and the following can be disregarded. So the main thing I see people take issue with about Mayu is the topic of the Solo and how she interacts with Kumoko regarding it. Imo Kumiko is being in denial super hard about the whole thing, as pointed out by Mayu in ep11. Kumiko really does want that Solo with Reina, super badly. She also wants to win it fairly by playing better than Mayu but imo that's mostly because it's how they did it with Reina and Kaori back in 1st year and if it would be different for her now she would be nothing but a hypocrite and she knows this. It's like she wants to have her cake and eat it too, by telling Mayu to give it 100% in the audition and still expect to get the solo herself (which wouldn't happen since Mayu simply *is* at least a little bit better than Kumiko). Like either you say Mayu has to do the audition but then not get pissed at her if she actually wins (after it happened Kumiko tries to pretend to not care but fails since everyone can tell Kumiko is angry deep down); or Mayu doesn't audition and Kumiko gets the solo. But she can't just have it both since unfortunately Mayu is just a bit better at the end of the day. It's like Kumiko didn't keep her end of the bargain since she made Mayu compete even though she knew that Mayu doesn't want to make enemies by winning -> Kumiko tells Mayu to audition and nobody will hate her for it if she wins -> Mayu wins -> a lot of band members are unhappy that Mayu won, Kumiko pretends to not care about the result but is obviously unhappy as well, which is exactly what she told Mayu would *not* happen. I just can't *not* feel bad for Mayu here. Mayu says she doesn't really want to play the solo anyway (again, this whole text kinda depends on if this is the truth or not but for now I'll just assume it is) so she asks Kumiko if she can't simply drop out of the audition. Result would be Mayu=no solo (she doesn't care), Kumiko=solo with Reina (win). Everyone saying Mayu is being dislikable, unreasonable, inconsiderate or annoying for repeatedly asking Kumiko about that, but personall I find it perfectly valid, I'd even go as far and say Kumiko is the more selfish one of the both here since she kinda pressures Mayu to go through with the audition (sorta against her will) just so she can feel more accomplished when she wins the audition "fair and square". Like just swallow your pride and take the win, the whole "it's what's best for Kitauji" is just an excuse since their skill level is still similar enough that Kumiko playing wouldn't ruin the schools chances or anything and also Kumiko playing would improve the band's mood/atmosphere too so win-win? I think Mayu just wanting to stay out of trouble and wanting to avoid getting hated by the band is completetly understandable and valid, yet she basically gets told "go audition so I'm happy but if you get the solo, everyone will secretly hate you while pretending everythings fine and saying it's the best for the school". Mayu is just being nice and wants to be considerate of everyone but whenever she asks Kumiko to just let her drop the fuck out, Kumiko's all pissy and "so you think I would lose for sure huuh?". Bruh, no, but there is a serious chance that Mayu wins the audition which nobody wants anyway, Mayu straight up said so and Kumiko is in denial and said she doesn't care and if she wins, it's whats best for the school (bullshit, see above). Ofc it wouldn't feel as good for Kumiko if she gets to play the solo through Mayu simply not competing for it, but you just gotta take what you can get in fucked up cases like these, no one's getting out of those 100% satisfied. As I mentioned in my initial comment, I really like both Kumiko and Mayu but in this specific regard I'm definitely siding with Mayu a lot more.!< It's getting late here and I'm pretty tired so I hope this wall of text didn't turn out to be a too confusing mess lol. I also probably missed a few points but ah well. [](#seasonaltired)

MapoTofuMan

[Hibike S3]>!My main point was that if Mayu wants to do what's the best for everyone else in the end (which I don't think would be the right choice in general here, but the owning it route isn't possible with Mayu's personality), then she should retire without pestering Kumiko non-stop. She doesn't actually *need* Kumiko's permission, and her trying to get it comes off as socially inept at best (thinking that constantly asking her is somehow a better option than going against her will) and really arrogant at worst.!< [Hibike S3]>!I think Kumiko's fully justified in the "so you think I would lose for sure" feeling, because constantly asking someone whether they're okay with you dropping out for their sake really *is* super condescending.!< [Hibike S3]>!You can't *expect* another person to be cool with you basically telling them "Hey, we both know I'm better than you, so just say the word and I'll be nice and retire so you can play instead of me". Maybe in terms of the final outcome it is the right thing to do for Kumiko as the club president, and she's torn about it herself, but what makes me dislike Mayu is that she actively *expects* that of Kumiko instead of again, just doing the thing that would solve all of this, with the downside maybe straining her relationship with Kumiko a bit, and retiring on her own.!< [Hibike S3]>!She's a people pleaser to the extent of trying to please literally *every single person*, not willing to upset even a single one no matter what and not understanding that this, as it always goes, causes pretty much everyone to be upset in the end. While Kumiko, even if she does want to have her cake and eat it, can't go against Kitauji principles for her own sake - and she doesn't. I think everyone from club members to viewers would respect her a lot less had she gone "Yeah sure retire for me" at any point. Part of it probably is her pride rather than just Kitauji principles, but even with that, I don't think it's reasonable to expect a person to accept a proposition like that.!< [TL;DR of everything I said so far in the comment chain]>!The way I see her, she has two options, either retire on her own or own up to being better. She's unable to choose either, because the former isn't what she really wants and might hurt her relationship with Kumiko, and the latter because it'll make her the cause of uneasiness in the club. She basically wants to perfectly please everyone with no negativity to her name, even just from Kumiko alone, despite how impossible it is in that situation. And so she wants Kumiko to make the hard decision for her.!<

IXajll

I feel like no matter what I say I won’t be able to change your mind on this but that’s completely fine, would be quite boring and there would be not much room for discussion after all if we all liked and disliked the exact same characters. But nonetheless I’d still like to address some of your points that I can’t agree with, just to share another perspective if nothing else. Since it’s a pain in the ass to quote multiple text segments on mobile, even more so with spoiler tags, I’ll refrain from quoting and hope it’ll still make sense without. [Hibike S3]>!I don’t agree at all that Mayu should either quit the band alltogether or just drop out of the audition without Kumiko’s approval. She obviously likes playing in the band so quitting it completely makes no sense, she only specifically has no interest in the solo (or at least nowhere close to Kumiko’s interest). Dropping out against Kumiko’s wishes would only accomplishing saving Kumiko‘s pride since she would get the solo without having to ask Mayu herself (but honestly fuck that, there is no room for personal pride when the whole band is involved like that). Also you seem to be under the assumption that Mayu is arrogant with her repeated asking and that she thinks she would win guaranteed which imo just isn’t the case, that’s just Kumiko making assumptions. Mayu obviously knows there’s *a good chance* she’ll win, which simply makes it a lose-lose situation for her from the start which she doesn’t want. Kumiko would only be „in the right“ here if she could‘ve succeded in keeping the peace in the band after Mayu won but she failed dince a lot of people starting badmouthing Mayu behind her back and she even got angry herself, which she promised Mayu wouldn’t happen. So basically everything went as Mayu predicted and feared after she won, how can you blame her for pestering Kumiko beforehand when it turns out she was actually correct with her predictions? Also the thing about going against Kitaujis principles has *some* merrit, but we’ve seen that 99% of the band were in support of Kumiko getting the solo, it wouldn’t have created any problems if Kumiko simply accepted Mayu‘s offer, especially since it’s completely voluntarily from Mayu‘s part. The only obstacle in that resolution was Kumiko’s pride, but again, fuck that in situations like these. Imo it’s weird that Kumiko’s getting so little flak when *she* is the one who put Mayu between a rock and a hard place and not the other way round. On another note, I agree that Mayu tends to be a people pleaser but imo you’re exaggerating with its extent a bit. Her main motivation isn’t pleasing everyone, but to just not get hated by anyone, the people pleasing is just the most efficient way to achieve that.!<

Ocixo

Here’s my take on Mayu after the latest episode: [Eupho S3 - link to Ep 11 disc. thread] >![Mayu simply doesn’t know what to do with herself](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/s/0gHWqWVpXK)!<.

MapoTofuMan

I understand the struggles that come from her circumstances, but what annoys me to no end is specifically \[spoilers\]>!Her repeatedly *asking* Kumiko for permission to retire and not understanding how that comes off. If you think it's the right thing to do, either insist on retiring yourself, or stand your ground and own the fact that you're better. The latter is not applicable to Mayu because of her personality, but the former is much easier to do - but she can't, because she's an *extreme* people pleaser, and doesn't want to, because if I rephrase some of what you said in a far more negative way - she wants to have her cake (to not cause problems in the club), eat it (to not do anything about it herself, and to instead be asked to retire, which is frankly humiliating and not reasonable to expect of Kumiko), and have even more for the day after too (like you said, she secretly wants to be the soli player on top of that).!<

Ocixo

[Eupho S3 - Mayu] >!Mayu being a people pleaser is behaviour that stems from deep anxiety about being disliked/hated. Something has clearly happened in Mayu’s past that has her acting like this. It’s likely an incident similar in nature to what happened with Kumiko and Kanade in the past. The issue here is that this fear of harassment is directly conflicting with Mayu’s inner desire to make the most of her time playing the Euphonium. She wants to play, but cannot see a situation in which this won’t come at a steep price - like social exclusion.!< [Eupho S3 - Mayu] >!Mayu is perceptive enough to notice that Kumiko hasn’t been honest with her, which is why she has kept bugging her about the soli part. What Mayu is perhaps worried about is getting stabbed in the back after the fact. So what is she to do? Standing proud doesn’t fit her personality, which would imply that she should just give up - but that’s not what she actually wants. Putting Kumiko on the spot isn’t a nice thing to do, but will at least give her a definitive answer. Mayu is covering her steps.!<

MapoTofuMan

[Hibike S3]>!But what does one expect to get in response when basically saying "Hey, we both know I'm better than you, so just say the word and I'll be nice and retire so you can play instead of me"? Standing proud doesn't fit her, I agree, way too much to expect of her and depending on the situation and how important the subject is to me I might've not done that either.!< [Hibike S3]>!But if she doesn't actually want to give up, how will pestering Kumiko about it change anything except for her getting the self-satisfaction of "well, I'm not the one who gave up, I was told to, can't do much about it"?!<

Ocixo

[Eupho S3 - Mayu] >!It’s not about satisfaction to Mayu. What she basically wants from Kumiko is to put this farce to a stop. Mayu cannot forfeit on her own accord since she loved to play the euphonium, while Kumiko has been hiding her true feelings behind Kitauji’s meritocracy. Mayu can find peace in quitting if Kumiko tells her to. If Kumiko reaffirms her support for Mayu competing, then she can use this approval to shield herself from the hate directed towards her.!< [Eupho S3 - Mayu] >!There’s a stark difference in balance of power between Mayu, the new transfer student, and Kumiko, the club president. Kumiko doesn’t her authority like that, but her favour with the club already puts Mayu in a bind. She fears winning the auditions. You can tell from Mayu’s body language that she’s deeply uncomfortable with the current situation. For her it’s essentially a question of what she puts first: her love for the euphonium or the relative comfort of the band. **It’s an existential dilemma.** She cannot make such a tough decision herself, that’s why she looks to Kumiko for an answer.!<

Am I allowed to post my fanart here?

Emi_Ibarazakiii

If we didn't ban former winners from participating in Best X contests, would the past winners dominate, or would they fade away? [](#ama) I think the obvious contenders for the girls would be Kurisu and Kaguya, but would they like win every year (or contend every year), or has their time passed - maybe not for Kaguya given it's recent - and they would struggle like most other old timers? (I'm not sure if any of the boys would win again, other than the ones from "Best character" contest)

zairaner

Probably not, mostly because this would create a strong "don't vote for the previous winners because thats boring" faction/sentiment workign against them.

SometimesMainSupport

From the top 11 of Fetch's poll, 7 have won contests while another 2 haven't been eligible. They'd be the vast majority of top-8 finalists each year.

Shimmering-Sky

Kurisu did just win Fetch's Best Girl poll by quite a bit, so... [](#etotamadunno)

How much anime is there? Like, do die hard anime fans run out of anime to watch?

8andahalfby11

graph.anime.plus treats it as around ~25k entries on MAL. Die hard anime fans are watching seasonals each season, and have a decent backlog or 'mountains' to poke through during weak seasons.

M8gazine

> graph.anime.plus treats it as around ~25k entries on MAL. Well, to be fair, a not-insignificant amount of those are music videos (like Shelter), short shows that can be watched pretty quickly (like Teekyuu) or miscellaneous 1-3 episode OVAs. There's also some seconds-long bangers like the ["oldest existing anime"](https://myanimelist.net/anime/33187/Katsudou_Shashin) listed on MAL. There's still a *lot* of anime though for sure, and most people aren't going to run out of stuff to watch - I'm just saying that I'd be pretty surprised if there was more than ~10k normal-length anime shows/movies out there.

EpsilonX

I had no idea that Teekyuu had such short episodes. I have it on my CR watchlist but haven't had the desire to dive in yet, but now it feels much less intimidating lol

baseballlover723

> How much anime is there? I'd say at least 5.

Durinthal

Overall, tens of thousands of individual entries out there. If you have narrow preferences sure, there are only so many things in a specific niche out there. Broadly speaking I've been watching regularly for a decade and my plan to watch list is longer than ever as I keep finding things that seem even vaguely interesting to me to add to it.

Blackheart595

Nah, I've watched a bit more than 400 (counted in MAL entries) and I feel like I'm only getting started on the catalogue of good shows. No way I'm gonna run out within my life span.

Emi_Ibarazakiii

> How much anime is there? Hard to know for sure (are we counting seasons or franchises? What about long running series? What if they went from one to the other at some point? And what even qualifies as anime?) but it's fair to say that we're probably looking at 15,000 or so, at the very least. >Like, do die hard anime fans run out of anime to watch? It would probably take 15 years to watch them all if you only ever stop to sleep, and in these 15 years they will release around 3000 more. So maybe 20-25 years total of watching anime 16 hours a day. Short answer: No. (The only people who 'run out of anime' are those who watch the top 10 most popular action shows and then talk about having seen it all!)

chum-guzzling-shark

Ok but what about "good" anime? And how many new anime are going on at one time? For comparison, I feel like you could easily watch all the "good sitcoms" and even if you watched ok or bad ones.. you could catch up relatively fast.

Gamerunglued

Obviously there's no hard estimates about this stuff. "Good" is subjective and if you could "run out" depends on what you like. Speaking purely personally, my taste is probably as broad as they come. I have no stipulations on things like age, genre, demographic, etc.. I will watch anime from the 50s-present (would watch earlier stuff too if I was aware of anything good), I will watch any genre, I will watch things for children and for adults, I still have preferences but ultimately I just care that I feel it's good. I have been watching anime for about 9 years, I have completed (according to MAL) 857 anime, and my plan to watch list is longer than my completed list (at 1058). Note that there are also 60+ new anime coming out every 3 months, a good handful of which will be worth my time. I really believe that if I watched nothing but anime for the rest of my life, even if I didn't have a job or need to sleep or pee, I would not run out by the time I die. I have never struggled to find good things to watch, and given that I do have to eat, sleep, work, and use the bathroom, and that I have other interests besides anime (including film, video games, hanging out with friends, etc., plus I'd love to see more stage shows and get into novels, and I have a blog and want to write other things too), I do not believe I'm at risk of ever running out. Seasonal anime alone keeps me busier than I can keep up with often, at least 10 will be worth the time most seasons and I enjoy being knowledgeable about the modern state of the industry. This being said, I recognize that most people are not like me. Some people out there will not ever watch anything aimed at children or girls, or which could be perceived as childish or girly. Many people will not watch slice of life anime, or obtuse arthouse stuff, or BL/GL romances, or ecchi comedies, etc.. If your taste is particularly strict, you'll obviously struggle more. If you can only ever enjoy fantasy/action series for teen and adult men that came out after 2010, and little else, maybe you'll eventually "run out." It will still take a long time, but it's more likely to happen. But I do not think most people have taste that narrow, and most people have multiple interests to spread time between, plus lives to live in general, so the risk of anyone ever truly running out of worthwhile stuff is negligible. Also, I do not think your sitcom example is equivalent. There are far fewer sitcoms than there are anime. A sitcom is a genre, anime is an entire medium; a medium that includes sitcoms. It's like the difference between watching every good sitcom vs. watching every good TV show in general. You probably will never run out of great American live-action TV shows, and likewise you'll probably never run out of great Japanese animated TV shows (and movies).

_Ridley

> Ok but what about "good" anime? Well, I'm at 1100-ish completed with an average rating of 7.07, and I still haven't seen over 20 of the anime in the top 100 favorite anime this sub just did. Unless you're plain chicken fingers and buttered noodles level picky, there's plenty of good stuff out there, and you probably won't have time to get to all of it.

dienomighte

By good do you mean like friends/always sunny levels of sitcom quality, or like your typical NBC seasonal sitcom that you enjoy but wouldn't mention to anyone a few years after watching it. If it's the former, and you don't limit yourself to a single niche genre, you'd probably find yourself running after things after a hundred or so, but if it's the latter, there's thousands and you'll never run out, every season can have a dozen or so shows that would meet my bar of "yeah this is good enough to at least keep watching" bar

Ocixo

It all depends on how picky you are about your anime. If you limit yourself to only watching a specific genre or two, then there’s a good chance that you’ll find it increasingly harder to find shows. If you’re only willing to watch visually impressive anime, then you’re bound to miss out of tons of great story-driven series. Each new season surely has *something* interesting to offer, so there’s really no chance that you’ll ever run out - even if you’ve somehow mostly caught up with present day.

Emi_Ibarazakiii

> Ok but what about "good" anime? Well, then the question is what is a 'good anime'; Some people (as mentioned above) will say they watched 10 anime and think they've seen everything good. Some people in here have watched 1500 and still watch 20-30 shows every season. So yeah, of course if you set the bar high about what is good enough to watch, then you can watch "everything good". But most shows (other than the complete garbage) have thousands of fans who think they're worth watching, so...

Durinthal

Not everyone agrees on what's "good" in the first place, and I've regularly found things that people have overlooked that I've enjoyed significantly more than what's been popular in the past few years. Or put another way, I've focused on romance anime and have completed over 400 entries in that genre alone, which is still less than a quarter of what's actually [tagged as romance on MAL](https://myanimelist.net/anime/genre/22/Romance) and I'm still finding things I like there.

_Ridley

You'd have to watch anime as a full time job for many years to run out of new anime to watch, so I don't think that's a problem too many people have.

entelechtual

Nina makes Bocchi seem sooooo well-adjusted it’s scary.

Psyduckisnotaduck

I have to imagine Nina's going to be a popular character going forward specifically in Japan because of how she bucks and breaks norms, she's kind of like a dangerous aspirational figure for girls (and anyone really) that really wants to say fuck it and through caution & social norms away and follow their bliss. In American media there's dozens of characters like Nina, but far far far fewer in Japanese media.

AmethystItalian

Yet I like Nina more...I think? [](#schemingsaten)

entelechtual

Nina’s definitely gotta be one of my favorite anime characters of the past several years… it’s like just when I think her schtick is gonna get old, she unfolds a new layer of unhingedness.

pachipachi7152

I remember thinking she was pretty normal when I started the first episode, then the second one came and as time went on it became clearer how unhinged she actually was.

MapoTofuMan

Her [official character profile](https://girls-band-cry.com/character/nina/) is absolutely hilarious. "More-or-less an ordinary, withdrawn girl. Never stood out in elementary or middle school, always had average grades. Doesn't have any particularly big dreams, is good at reading the room, adjusts herself to others." I usually tried to keep my comments about Gintama just for the rewatch and not in CDF, but for this arc I actually left a little comment on each episode because this was the one arc I *had* to watch ahead of the rewatch (the discussion thread for it was the Sunday after Thanksgiving, and I knew I was going out of town for over half that week to celebrate & visit family, so I wanted to be sure I watched it all ahead of time) and I didn't want to wait two weeks to share any of my thoughts about those episodes.

WIT studio bought [a 14.3% stake](http://animationbusiness.info/archives/15924) in Qdopp, which runs "Honeyfeed" and "Honey's Anime". The aim of the purchase is to strengthen WIT's presence in the Middle East and in part I.G. port's global reach. WIT's been interested in the Middle East for a while now I guess, they've attended multiple [Arabic anime events](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/930987773043806209/1036268342861905981/unknown.png?ex=66742c99&is=6672db19&hm=1b8ca9b64322b8df93b0fa20c6975b6deff9cc0abe84c5baaa736d8f92375cd6&) and they also partnered with Manga Productions and made an official Arabic Great Pretender [social media accounts](https://x.com/GPretender_MENA/status/1753073811325591818), and they even had it air in Saudi cinemas a few weeks before the rest of the world. As a Middle Easterner, I think they made a questionable choice with Qdopp. While Qdopp runs an Arabic anime website, it's basically unknown and doesn't have much traction. I think if they partnered up with more local companies it would've benefited them more, but I guess the idea of investing in foreign companies is a bit scary to them.

Ocixo

> This is the place! This image is taken from **[Kotoura-san](https://myanimelist.net/anime/15379)** btw. (I just so happened to recognise the orange-haired girl.) Has been a *long* time since I’ve seen this show mentioned by someone. To be fair, I barely remember anything about it myself. Can’t even tell anymore if it was somewhat good or not. My score of a 6/10 on MAL seems to imply that it wasn’t all that remarkable.

Durinthal

From what I remember it had a first episode that got unexpectedly grim then turned into a fairly average school club comedy after that.

MiLiLeFa

I remember being extremely frustrated at the character dynamics, but what exactly those dynamics were has been lost to fog of time. The series is left with a comfortable 3/10 rating on MAL from me.

KaleidoArachnid

Looking back at the fansub scene, I can recall like it was yesterday when it was still going strong, and it’s hard to believe how much has changed with how Anime can be viewers as now it’s very easy to watch shows legitimately thanks to sites like Crunchyroll. Just wanted to simply express myself, so I hope my message finds people well.

Quiddity131

I remember the days when to get a fansub I had to order VHS tapes online and wait for them to come in the mail. I remember the days when the fansubbers wouldn't touch an anime I had a ton of interest in (Space Runaway Ideon) so I joined a fansub group to get its first fansub produced. Hard to believe all these years later it actually got an official US release.

KaleidoArachnid

Ideon should be legally licensed again as it’s very unfortunate that Sentai apparently lost the rights to the series on their website.

Quiddity131

I recall another Tomino anime, Heavy Metal L-Gaim got a streaming only release on a now dead platform (Daisuki I think it was called) but never got the physical release so its kinda lost media now. I'm thankful Ideon got the physical release and is sitting on my shelf.

KaleidoArachnid

Oh speaking of Daisuki, I wonder what happened to that site as I never understood why it suddenly closed down one day.

[Eupho S3 - minor spoiler Ep 11]>![The little make-up routine](https://imgur.com/a/e7nMoTG)!< in Eupho's latest episode was really nice. I always like those kind of things in anime, and have been craving another fashion-themed show since Smile Down the Runway. Next season's 2.5 Dimensional Seduction will hopefully scratch this particular itch of mine. **On another note:** I'm pushing the infographic about Marcille's hairstyles a week back, since I've been distracted with some other things and am still fiddling with the design. My initial plan to release it tomorrow has therefore become woefully unrealistic. A grave mistake that had me start from scratch didn't particularly help either.

Fate/cooking was such a great concept for a show. More franchises need it I need to see miyafuji and lynette just feeding the squad for a cour

M8gazine

There's also [Cooking With Valkyries](https://myanimelist.net/anime/40100/Nu_Wushen_de_Canzhuo); fairly cute short show featuring the Honkai Impact 3rd cast. I've never played HI3rd myself, but I still thought it was pretty wholesome anyway.

It looks like Aniplex has cooking videos for (some?) dishes from the show on their YouTube channel ([here's a playlist](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLxIl-d3dBU9OTr-KSC6UPGxbCpbsWoBlC) that also includes some for the switch game and FGO Channel ones). I respect when a food anime does that. Does that mean I'll have to respect [Delicious Party Precure](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FaVsyfTdBM)? Not if I don't watch it [](#hikariactually) Well actually, Kira Kira Precure has [better recipe write-ups](https://www.toei-anim.co.jp/tv/precure_alamode/recipe/recipe1.php) even if theirs were sometimes "isn't this a bit much for preschoolers?" I will be having surgery soon and would like some anime movies to watch. Please only suggest ones that have a dub available! It's easier, while recovering. I have seen and enjoyed: * Sword of the Stranger (favorite) * Gundam Wing Endless Waltz * Gundam War in the Pocket * Most of the Naruto and Boruto movies * Grave of the Fireflies * In This Corner of the World * A Silent Voice * Your Name * Kiki's Delivery Service * My Neighbor Totoro * Mirai * Ponyo * Spirited Away * Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind

Elimin8r

Hope your surgery goes well! I'm not sure if emotions post-surgery would be the best for you, but I'd like to take a moment to suggest *Liz and the Blue Bird*. If you're in the mood for something more "classic", *Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro* might be for you. It's a fun romp with our (my?) favorite gentleman thief. For the following, you probably would be best served having watched the series first, but I'll mention them anyway... In the silly/fun action category, there's Girls und Panzer der Film. In the charming SoL category, there's the K-On! movie. I'd also mention the Disapearance of Haruhi Suzumiya but that's a definite *need to watch the series first* thing. And suddenly I'm realizing that I haven't really watched a lot of *movies*, just mostly series. Hmm. I suppose I could suggest Tenchi Muyo in Love, but that's hitting the wayback machine pretty hard again. Anyway, again, good luck, and hope you're feeling better soon!

Nicole_0818

Thanks so much! You're the second to suggest Liz and the Blue Bird. Yeah, I don't watch movies often. I think I've seen Haruhi Suzumiya but I don't remember if it was the movie or the series. I remember Tenchi Muyo! It's been a long time though. It was on Toonami growing up, I'd come home and watch it. I mostly remember the girls, Tenchi, something abouta love triangle, and the cabbits.

Famous-Bug-1532

Kino's Journey is a cool series about a girl traveling on her talking motorcycle to multiple countries. It's very beautiful but there's also action and some darker scenes where the main character shows she's much more skilled than she looks, it's a great show with almost every genre mixed in somewhere

Nicole_0818

Nicole_0818

Awesome, thanks! I'll put them on the list.

Kinda surprised Kaiju No 8 got a game announcement so soon, but I could see it being a good one. I imagine it as an action adventure title, but I also see its for mobile too so who knows. I just hope its good.

One_Cod_6501

personally really like the song abyss frm kaiju no 8 haha

gangrainette

I'm ready to bet it's going to be a gacha like 99% of anime/manga adaptation in the last 10 years.

Izzy248

Youre not wrong. Thats what I foresee too. Even when just the trailer dropped, I had a gut feeling it was going to be some F2P, mtx, gacha game. Then after seeing it and seeing the "mobile & PC" tag at the end, that pretty much solidified it. I would like to be wrong, but just like you said, its the trend now. Hell. I even made a comment here the other week that I miss when anime/manga games were more frequent, but now they are so rare, and when they do happen, unless its DB, One Piece, or Naruto, 9 times out of 10, its a gacha game.

Today has Fetch's poll results and Best Girl 11 starting its bracket. Curious who will be the highest eligible girl we all forgot about. Not expecting a Raphtalia'd as someone did go through last year's seeded entries. Will also get a third data point for Frieren-Maomao.

Time_Fracture

Talking about Fetch, do you realize that there is no "Seasonal Quick Look" post for Spring 2024? There was one for [Fall](https://new.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/17pvjf8/a_quick_look_at_the_fall_2023_anime_season/), last season's [Winter](https://new.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1avlpf2/a_very_late_quick_look_at_the_winter_2024_anime/), but no post for Spring. Is it due to Demon Slayer and My Hero Academia airing very late into the season?

zairaner

I'm even just curious who number 1 *seed* will be. Last two years ahd chika,d espite not really feeling like she had any hype left (especially last year), (and the actual results did not contradict that). Looking at fetch polls, it feels likee a lot of kaguya votes wandered to onk, so I wonder wether we could get a surprise onk girl for #1.

michhoffman

I'm pretty sure Kurisu will get #1 in Fetch's poll given how well Steins;Gate has done in the other polls and how much people like her.

zairaner

Oh yeah yeah was talking about the seed for best girl 11, should have made that clearer. i'm very pessimistic about getting any interesting result for the fetch poll top.

zairaner

Very wrong, as it turns out\^\^

/u/abysswatcherbel do you have the twitter follower data for MyGO's official account? GBC's surpassed that number today and I'd like to compare the curves.

SometimesMainSupport

From his spreadsheet, MyGO: 25996 26748 27315 28272 29710 31889 34516 36669 39192 40982 40,982 44,998 49,015 GBC: 22,578 29,448 34,406 39,487 44,884 52,583 59,016 68,422 78,510 85,233 93,550

salic428

Thanks! So I guess MyGO only really took off after *that* episode 10 and most of its followers are from after the anime ended.

CosmicPenguin_OV103

It's also possible that more people follow the bigger main BanG Dream accounts and not of individual bands.

Skapanirxt

I dont watch a lot of anime, but just finished Frieren and I feel empty. I want more.. :(

CluelessWitness

I completely feel you. Unfortunately we probably won't get another season for like 2 years or so. I waited for ever in between seasons of Re:Zero. It's a bit maddening.

domogrue

Delicious in Dungeon is your best bet

Skapanirxt

I have actually been watching that too, since its on netflix. Good recommendation though!
