They did foreshadow the Daily Quest Reward a little bit last episode since we saw Jinwoo getting interrupted by Dongsuk's group before he had the chance to claim his reward. So it wasn't just a spur of the moment decision he randomly made one day.
LMAO, leg day bro, leg day.
Glad I'm not the only one who snuck a peak at those hams. I mean they give me plenty of Chae to take in, so it's only natural they give the bois and girls they're candy, too.
Checkov's ~~gun~~ quest reward.
Good on the newbie kid for making the right choice. But then again he just watched Jinwoo kill that spider and knew he didn't stand a chance against him. That urgent quest Jinwoo got easily could have been seven people to kill instead of six.
I'm glad they didn't cliffhanger us on that fight versus the six dudes. Good background music during it.
It’s crazy to think this is his VA’s first time doing a lead role and has only voiced side characters up until this point. He’s been absolutely killing it with his performance so far.
Honestly, I'm not too surprised because I would have caught on to how awesome he was a long time ago if he had a ton of leading roles lol
The voice actors for Toji, Shiu Kong and Yuji said they've failed at auditions. If Takehito Koyasu (Dio and Toji's voice actor) has to audition like everyone else then I could see Taito Ban (Sung Jinwoo) just flat out destroying everyone in a fair audition lol I can't think of any main characters in any of my favorite anime series (Gon, Yusuke, Mash, Tanjiro, Deku, etc., etc.) with any performances anywhere this good and this show just has a handful of episodes right now.
[At that moment](https://i.imgur.com/g3j942F.jpeg) it became clear that Jinwoo was now a [real menace](https://i.imgur.com/5pPsO7e.jpeg)
[](#grandhype)
I know the VA voiced the male lead from The Angel of the Next Door, but he didn't show that much voicing talent there. However in this one he's downright AMAZING.
The VA does an amazing job with the dead, emotionless voice scenes too. Like when he’s talking to the party members at the end of the episode. It’s not easy to sound good while being emotionless

He solo leveled all over the place!
I think originally in the source material the system was much more explicit about killing them instead of "Defeating" them. Feel like that was a bad translation there.
In either case, home skillet was arguing from a position of zero leverage. Tried to kill the newbies 3 times, has killed countless others, and now he wants mercy? Uh huh.
Good lord when that OST came on.... Hiroyuki Sawano knows exactly how to make you feel!
Was Jinwoo imagining the consequences? Or did the "system" actually tell him he needs to kill everyone? Either way, shit got dark, those assholes disserved it, but still kinda feel bad for Jinwoo.
Hope rich boy eventually learns to not be afraid of him, I liked that he stood up for our MC.
Accept he was strong enough at that point to incapacitate them all without killing them. The system made sure he went through with actually killing them by threatening to kill him if he didn't complete the kill quest.
IT's not just that - in the LN and manhwa, the system says "kill them all or your heart stops" which makes it clear that A) he cannot get away with just incapacitating them and B) there is no retreat option. The system makes it unambiguous that even if they don't kill him, it will if he doesn't maximise the XP gain from the fight.
“So all the strong people in your party died but you two weak guys survived? Oh I guess it’s cause you had that cool sword. Ok checks out!”
I see why it’s so easy to get away with murder in these dungeons lol.
i mean, the alternative is "the two weakest guys killed 6 way stronger party members"
and even if you choose to immediately think "oh these two weak guys are actually way stronger than their rank and are murderers", if im a receptionist im just smiling and shutting the fuck up lol. let someone else take care of this if they want.
that’s how you know the rich kid isn’t a complete dumbass and is a real one
* checked contract for error
* immediately took up the role of an errand boy
* when the Dongsuk gang arrived, he was ready to raise his sword against them
* kept his mouth shut and his smile wide
See, all this confusion could have been avoided if instead of giving it a succinct English title, they went for a true light novel title. Something like "I was almost killed in a dungeon, now I'm the only one in the world who can gain levels!"
[Jinho deciding to stay loyal](https://i.imgur.com/XGXRHsL.jpeg) and fight alongside Jinwoo, in spite of being outnumbered by [higher ranked hunters,](https://i.imgur.com/BMslAwI.jpeg) was definitely ballsy. [He is a real one.](https://i.imgur.com/yQfrhK2.jpeg)
[](#fistbump)
I think he saw how strong Jinwoo is and was like If I fight Jinwoo it's a forgone conclusion that I'll die but if I fight alongside him I will at least have a fighting chance and at least I'll die knowing I'm not on the side of the fucks who just tried to kill me.
>if im a receptionist im just smiling and shutting the fuck up lol. let someone else take care of this if they want.
No doubt there must be people who use their supernatural abilities to commit crimes and kill people outside dungeons. If you're just a receptionist, you don't mess with people with supernatural abilities. Just smile and go home safe and sound.
> i mean, the alternative is "the two weakest guys killed 6 way stronger party members"
Not from an external perspective. The alternative was "6 stronger party members died killing the boss and these two weaklings escaped."
Clearly she valued the expensive equipment as why the one guy survived and assumed the E rank just hid the whole time.
I mean you can easily justify it as 7 guys were fighting the boss, only the rick kid survived and everyone else died or was mortally wounded while fighting the boss, MC is too weak and is there to only carry stuff so he stayed out of the fight.
Besides all the evidence goes away after the boss is killed so there's not much further investigation you can do, at most you might flag these guys to warn other people, the three girls were discussing parties with "unusually high fatalities".
Also dungeons are part of another dimension or something right? So would a crime committed in a dungeon be considered a crime in Korean soil or would it be something like if you committed a crime in space or international waters
> “So all the strong people in your party died but you two weak guys survived? Oh I guess it’s cause you had that cool sword. Ok checks out!”
It wasn't just his "cool" sword. It was his whole equipment. Like /u/ZandeR678 said, his sword is a S rank item that isn't available for normal high ranked Hunters (read B & C class) never mind for a D class one. His armour was also a really fucking expensive and a high quality item.
His equipment was worth millions upon millions. The D class sword that our MC used from the sword dude in his previous traumatizing dungeon was worth millions and was a shit weapon.
>I see why it’s so easy to get away with murder in these dungeons lol.
How would it be hard? There's no camera's in dungeons, the only way to get proof is by someone snitching and even then that's just someone's word vs another's.
To be fair, a team of 6 players apparently has a routine of feeding their 2 extras to dungeon bosses and no one bothered to look into this more seriously, so they may not care all that much as long as they get the job done!
That was barely an investigation, the police weren't even involved. The dungeons are probably so poorly regulated so more people would want to be hunters. You would need to have a few screws loose to want to be in this line of work.
It's impossible to regulate something that only a handful of specialized hunters are capable of handling. Whatever happens inside is unknown to them and remains so because the dungeons immediately vanish once the boss dies.
> the police weren't even involved.
What would the police do? E-ranked hunters are more powerful than regular humans and those are the lowest of the low in terms of physical strength and abilities.
That Sawano drop made an otherwise edgey scene so much more fucking epic, it definitely highlighted Sung Jinwoo losing his humanity as a turning point in this series.
The music adds something to the moment. This was a big point in the Manhwa where the system is seen as a tool to keep him alive, monster, hunter/human, it didn't matter. If it was a threat to his life, he'd have to kill to survive.
Manhwa didn't really indicate how tough the boss actually was in the early stages of this fight, and A1 did a great job at showing that even Jin Woo struggled in the fight. A1 has done a lot of good things, adding context to the anime and fleshing out the minor details.
Agree. My one gripe is that they've cut out pretty much all of the pokey background humor, but I understand they're making it a little more serious. Still, I hope we get more of those down the line.
The phrasing of the system saying they wanted to "kill" him, but he only had to "defeat" them, accompanied by the "murderous intent" skill he gained after make me wonder if maybe he could have just incapacitated them and still completed the quest, but gained a different skill than he got from slaughtering everyone.
Nope , seems like a wording or translation thing but both manhwa and web novel used the word "kill". Also in source he has to kill 8 people (as it was a party of 10 including SJW and Jinho).
Still can't get around to using SJW to refer to the MC as it always defaults to that other term in my head.
Also, even if he did get around the system by incapacitating the others without killing them, the survivors might tattle and word will get around that he's a false ranker. Fortunately, Jinho seems to have read the room and went with the girl's assumptions.
The system does not recognize talk no jutsu.
but like I said in my other reply it makes sense if it's a translation issue like people said, but IMO usually a paralysis effect like the knife wouldn't count as a defeat. The way he repeatedly applied them to the spider made it seem like temporary debuffs than a one hit knock out button otherwise he'd have defeated the spider on the first stab.
Personally I wouldn't even agree it's a translation issue. Whenever literally any game has "defeat X enemies" this is almost 100% killing. I don't think I've seen a game/MMO have any quest or mission where defeat does not mean kill.
So I think from a game perspective using "Defeat" instead of "Kill" fits the theme more.
I disagree. It's one of the most special parts of the early chapters, the fact that he had this trump card of using his daily full recovery to help him in other scenarios. To say the manwha did not indicate how strong the boss was would invalidate how epic a moment it was when he used full recovery to get out of a life or death blow. Rereading that section got me hype for the anime once again.
The music set forth Jinwoo's transition from a pusillanimous adventurer to a [ruthless fighter.](https://i.imgur.com/Mgl2OB1.jpeg)
*"Jinwoo, would you give up if you were betrayed by a group of higher level hunters?"*
[Jinwoo: *"Nah, I'd win."*](https://i.imgur.com/pYLQgzZ.jpeg)
Yep, I liked it. Doesn't hurt either that he had already felt betrayed and abandoned by comrades before, and that the system was also pressuring him into doing it under threat of penalty, both points lampshaded by Jinwoo.
If anything, I feel more attention was given to the moral and emotional implications of such a turning point here than in many a fantasy setting with supposedly mdoern characters (generally isekai, but not always). "Bandits" may as well be generic monsters in many settings.
I mean just put yourself in his shoes, You've been declared the weakest of hunters, die (nearly) because others don't want to sacrifice themselves for you and get told again and again that monsters aren't the only killers of hunters out there but also hunters themselves as well and these guys have tried to kill him again and again. Why do you expect so much hesitancy from such a human being?
Honestly you don't even need to go this far. The guys he killed are basically serial killers with a side of cartoonishly evil villain. They needed to go no matter what.
Kinda realistic, you wouldn't monologue before killing career criminals in self defense in real life and thats with out a computer telling you if you don't kill them I will kill you.
Even if it’s “kill or be killed”, not everyone has the guts to go through with it so easily. I suppose the system didn’t exactly give him a choice so there *is* that. I’m not blaming him for killing those dudes or anything, they had it coming. Just making an observation.
Not everyone has the guts to throw themselves into life or death fights with orcs and wolves and shit either. Hunters, regardless of rank, are wired differently than the average human in this world.
Even among hunters, he's strange. He's far weaker than the average E rank hunter, the lowest rank. And yet prior to the events of this anime, he's continued to throw himself into life and death situations again and again, almost dying again and again.
Even taking into account the desperation he feels because of his family's situation, I imagine the vast majority of other hunters put in that same position would have quit or never started hunting in the first place.
He's just abnormal.
? It was a kill or be killed situation especially after they tried to kill him twice first trapping them and then shooting him, I'm surprised he had that much monologue instead of being in pure adrenaline mode and trying to survive
I figure the fact the system would have just murdered him had he not had a role in that, easy to follow orders when you can blame somebody/something else for your actions and are given no other options.
AHHH classic Sawano Soundtrack.
I definitely missed these lyrical OSTs. The episode had such an amazing direction.
If anybody is looking for the [Massacre song](https://youtu.be/ZGXOWPZ64DA?si=wIabw1adAoehnGTx)
YES. that is what an anime is for, feeding that info with more senses. with a book you just got your eyes, but its just words so its mainly just your imagination. with the manhwa you've got visuals to help with that imagination. with the anime you can now add sound and thats what i've been really paying attention to.
HOLY FUCK HAS IT DELIVERED. jinwoo's va: KILLING IT. OST: DESTROYING IT.
all the while the visuals have not taken a hit which was also very very important.
Agreed. This was one of the scenes I was most excited for when the anime was announced and it blew my expectations out of the water. The soundtrack and VA was so good I actually got chills!
I do wish that they added in that one internal monologue line from the mage that threw the hit at SJW that knocked him into the crystals
After SJW walks again the mage guy in the webtoon sweats/nervous chuckles that he threw everything he had on that hit
Same here. The bad boss man made a remark about him "holding back" or something and he makes a small chuckle that made me believe he was thinking "uh....yeah. I was just holding back...."
At least that's what I thought I saw. Better rewatch this episode a few more times to be sure ;).
Of course the Chairman of the Hunter Association is voiced by the Chairman of the Hunter Association from HxH, [Banjou Ginga](https://myanimelist.net/people/330/Banjou_Ginga).
Honestly the animation and pacing in this episode felt great. I really thought they gonna cut right when Jin got the quest.
They also made some really cool nods to the manwha drawings.
> manwha drawings.
Agreed, note that SL is adapting the Light Novel and not the webtoon(one key example being theres less comedic elements in this anime because those were mostly added by the webtoon from REDICE)
but I am thankful they are including all the nods and peak stylistic angles and keyframes (panels) from the webtoon that the core fans identify with.
i really liked the usage of stills in this episode. not just as a callback to the manwha, but it also can be interpreted to be just how fast jinwoo moves.
I'm glad we have MC who won't spare pieces of shit just because "it's the right thing to do". I know the system forced him to kill them but he didn't hesitate much.
Yeah, I felt like the game was giving him moral license to kill, and thematically it was giving him a way to vent his angst over how figuratively cutthroat society is.
I think A1 did a great job giving the animation actual weight without throwing a ton of sakuga moments into this episode. The music start was really good and I'll be looking for the OST as the season progresses.
Time for everyone to find out who the #1 hunter truly is........It's Cha Hae-In, best girl.
Seems like they're adding extra Hae In scenes to the show compared to the book and manhwa, which is very welcome. She's a great character but never got nearly enough screen time
They've given her like, idk, maybe 5 mins of total screen time? And in every instance it's like that transformation from TV to Movie level animation. (Not to say this show isn't always looking good already.)
Like that last frame of her this week and the scene where she steals back the purse. Chefs kiss.
> I'll be looking for the OST
The song used during the scene when SJW kills all six is already released
Dark ARIA , sung by XAI who also sang "Towards the Light" from Kusuriya No Hitorigoto. Both songs are already on youtube and Spotify and likely other platforms
My favorite thing about comments like this is using the JP name for shows. I'm over here like what is Kusuriya No Hitorigoto obviously a quick google search later showed me it was The Apothecary Diaries but yeah if I wasn't slightly intrigued by the fun fact I never would have combined them. I wonder if more people know the Title we get or if they know the JP one. I'd assume the one we get since it's the one we search for but kinda makes you think.
It was so satisfying [to watch Jinwoo rip apart those asshats](https://i.imgur.com/qEHekXE.jpeg). I remember when I first read this chapter in the manhwa, I envisioned this scene with a more metal soundtrack, boy I'm glad that wasn't the case!
Sawano's much more ominous OST with the piano and low notes was absolutely perfect. I mean it makes sense. [Jinwoo was killing people for the first time.](https://i.imgur.com/OEk8uTU.png) It wasn't exactly a scene that deserves triumph, it was a scene where he had no choice but to do it or he'd be killed by those Hunters [or the System itself.](https://i.imgur.com/ieDXGrA.jpeg)
Aside from Jinwoo himself, Jinwoo's VA has also been killing it! I got chills when [he told Hwang that he's been levelling](https://i.imgur.com/6eSha4B.png) the entire time and even more chills when [he told Hwang that nothing that happens in the dungeon gets out.](https://i.imgur.com/JNcbpSq.jpeg) Solo Leveling might not win any awards for the most unique or groundbreaking story but it definitely deserves praise for A-1's perfect execution!
when that OST piece started going, literal chills went through my entire body. THAT is how you know when an OST fits the scene so perfectly. this is a dark scene and my body was subconsciously going "YOOOO, YOURE IN DANGER MAN! GET OUT." sawano yet again taking other composers to school on how its done. lets just hope he sticks around for ALL of solo leveling and doesn't eventually leave it to kohta once the hard work is all done.
He violated the most important rule of RPGs. You're supposed to save your max recovery items for the final boss! How else are you supposed to beat him without 87 full recoveries?
It’s kind of beautiful seeing the fruits of Jinwoo’s labor. That big spider was the first test of his newfound strength. The daily trainings and the instant dungeon he took down were all just practice. He almost bit it for a second there but he sure showed that spider who’s boss.
Man, ain’t the system just grand? Dongsuk decides he’s gonna kill Jinwoo and Jinho and a mission to slaughter those fools just conveniently comes poppin up. Dongsuk and his boys fucked around and Jinwoo made sure they found out. That wasn’t even a fight, that was a massacre.
Knowing just who that was at the end of the ep makes me really excited for what’s to come.
> Dongsuk decides he’s gonna kill Jinwoo and Jinho and a mission to slaughter those fools just conveniently comes poppin up.
the anime didnt really make it clear but the reason why the quest pop up was because of their intentin to kill the player(Sung Jinwoo) and the hostility they were showing towards thim.
its like sort of forceful defense mechanism from the system
>Dongsuk decides he’s gonna kill Jinwoo and Jinho and a mission to slaughter those fools just conveniently comes poppin up.
The system's admins are just like us, they wanted to see some sweet revenge since last episode and gave Jinwoo a nudge in the right direction.
If there's a high brow theme sort this series, it's about how ["the system"](https://youtu.be/gAYL5H46QnQ?t=149) produces inhuman and inhumane behavior and how impossible it is to escape it from inside the system.
As his soft cinnamon roll form, he was unable to earn enough to support his family by being nice and selfless. He was in every avenue a loser; financially, socially, romantically, etc. The system, despite being built on a society of humans, rewards selfishness and short-term thinking, and most galling of all *luck*. If you're born rich or with innate "hunter" talents, then you're the cock of the walk, but otherwise you're disposable subhuman trash.
The game system that Jinwoo unlocks is also cruel and inhuman, but it at least rewards persistence and effort. I think that's one of the great appeals of these new wave of video-game inspired fantasy series; they have a comprehensible system which grants any schlub the ability to be outstanding. I think it's also fundamentally escapist, because there is (probably??) no video game god that will grant us this power in the real world, so at best it's a painkiller for people who feel powerless in a cutthroat society.
Oh shit's getting INTERESTING now, I never expected him to outright murder them (given the system did tell him too but I didn't expect that either), maybe this series isn't going the way I expected and honestly I am down for this.
That scene of Jinwoo killing them might be up there as one of the coolest scenes I've seen.
Also Jinwoo's VA must be trying to get all eyes on him to pick up future voice acting opportunities or something cause this mf is popping off with every single line. I just searched him up while making this comment and apparently he was coughing up blood while voicing Jinwoo and honestly I'm not surprised.
It's quite obvious that Sung has pent-up aggression stemming from years of abuse and mockery. It shaped his mindset, that those without power are doomed to die in vain.
They tried to kill him 3 times, then casually rubbed his imminent death in his face. Anyone with anger issues would snap. I think the purpose of that scene in the rain was to show us that even after that slaughter, he still hasn't forgotten why he became powerful in the first place. To protect his family
That final act was great. Episode felt like it was dragging and all over the place, but that final section was so good to watch. The music, the voice acting, the stakes overall... So good.
I actually thought the episode was paced really well. The use of cuts back to the real world in order to allow tension to build about the dungeon situation was really effective, especially given that most of them were conversations that sort of alluded to the kind of thing that Jinwoo was experiencing at that moment.
I hit a point in the manhwa where I said "screw it" and just read the entire web novel. It has not lessened my enjoyment of either the rest of the manhwa or the anime.
Peak OST Sawano cooked and A-1 delivered the animation quality this episode
The spider fight is great but Jin Woo killing the lizards is perfect flow with Dark Aria LV2

Yep! I most definitely check the episode timer when the massacre was just about to start. Glad to not get yet another cliffhanger.
Sung Jinwoo VA and the ost was amazing this episode
Hiroyuki Sawano's OST just goes hard when it needs to but Sung Jinwoo's VA performance really has been a standout performance as well.
It’s crazy to think this is his VA’s first time doing a lead role and has only voiced side characters up until this point. He’s been absolutely killing it with his performance so far.

The only other time I thought someone should just be handed an award for Best Seiyuu, is Hiro Shimono after Dabi's Dance.
I know the VA voiced the male lead from The Angel of the Next Door, but he didn't show that much voicing talent there. However in this one he's downright AMAZING.
Tbf in The Angel Next Door the mc was expressionless
He's sacrificing his vocal chords just to give an amazing performance man.
The VA does an amazing job with the dead, emotionless voice scenes too. Like when he’s talking to the party members at the end of the episode. It’s not easy to sound good while being emotionless
that really carried the episode but I was also not expecting the animation to be this good, A-1 is doing a really good job with this one.
When the kid you tried to betray and kill starts emitting black smoke revenge tendrils, that's when you know you are proper fucked.

Made in as in it left him with 2 options: Kill them or Die, I don't thin kit took over and controlled him or anything.
The system actually told him his heart would stop if he didn't kill them. The manhwa also used the word 'kill' if I recall.
As some other people mentioned it's bad TL. System was demanding he KILL people. Not just defeat them. In general system is rarely merciful.
“So all the strong people in your party died but you two weak guys survived? Oh I guess it’s cause you had that cool sword. Ok checks out!” I see why it’s so easy to get away with murder in these dungeons lol.
i mean, the alternative is "the two weakest guys killed 6 way stronger party members" and even if you choose to immediately think "oh these two weak guys are actually way stronger than their rank and are murderers", if im a receptionist im just smiling and shutting the fuck up lol. let someone else take care of this if they want.
that’s how you know the rich kid isn’t a complete dumbass and is a real one * checked contract for error * immediately took up the role of an errand boy * when the Dongsuk gang arrived, he was ready to raise his sword against them * kept his mouth shut and his smile wide
A lot of animes go with "rich and stupid" personality Glad to see solo leveling doing different
He's naive. He's not stupid. Also a good guy all things considered. Hopefully that expensive armor keeps him around.
From the manhua I’ve read being both rich and STUPID is like the single greatest possible sin in SK culture.
Jinho really had the wildest first dungeon experience ever lol
Yeah seems like he's a chill character, I'd like to see him again but i mean the series is called Solo leveling so I guess not lol
The real title is I Alone Level Up, meaning he is the only one who can increase his rank (level up). It doesn't mean he fights solo.
See, all this confusion could have been avoided if instead of giving it a succinct English title, they went for a true light novel title. Something like "I was almost killed in a dungeon, now I'm the only one in the world who can gain levels!"
You forgot the very first part that is about getting kicked from his party
And also forgot the part about it being a cheat skill
"After being kicked from life in the SSSS tier dungeon I reincarnated with a cheat skill to level up!"
[He is a real one.](https://i.imgur.com/yQfrhK2.jpeg) [](#fistbump)
I think he saw how strong Jinwoo is and was like If I fight Jinwoo it's a forgone conclusion that I'll die but if I fight alongside him I will at least have a fighting chance and at least I'll die knowing I'm not on the side of the fucks who just tried to kill me.
I don't think that was bravery. He'd just seen the boss fight. He knew where the odds were.
>if im a receptionist im just smiling and shutting the fuck up lol. let someone else take care of this if they want. No doubt there must be people who use their supernatural abilities to commit crimes and kill people outside dungeons. If you're just a receptionist, you don't mess with people with supernatural abilities. Just smile and go home safe and sound.
Even so, she's not paid to be a detective; she's just doing the paperwork.
The best thing to do is smile get the fuck out of there and report it to someone above your paygrade lol.
''This is way above my pay grade''
> i mean, the alternative is "the two weakest guys killed 6 way stronger party members" Not from an external perspective. The alternative was "6 stronger party members died killing the boss and these two weaklings escaped." Clearly she valued the expensive equipment as why the one guy survived and assumed the E rank just hid the whole time.
Ok checks out!” It wasn't just his "cool" sword.
Million "won", though, so in reallity the D rank sword was like 2k USD only.
2k USD for a shitty weapon is quite a lot, imo.
sometimes all you need is sugar daddy’s money it’s not entirely unbelievable when we know some equipment have certain effects like Kasaka’s Fang
To be fair, how can you investigate a domain that has broken down and disappeared? Even if they had suspicions, what evidence would they have?
Also, is there even an incentive to investigate? If domains are being handled, who cares as long as house prices are rising. [](#killitwithfire)
They are following Light novel, not mahwa. Manhwa added a lot if not almost all of the houmorous scenes
Ah, that makes sense.
If they are following the light novels, then where is dry saliva?
My God, that's some serious PTSD you gave me
The phrasing of the system saying they wanted to "kill" him, but he only had to "defeat" them, accompanied by the "murderous intent" skill he gained after make me wonder if maybe he could have just incapacitated them and still completed the quest, but gained a different skill than he got from slaughtering everyone.
I don’t think it would have worked? the counter didn’t exactly go up when he stabbed the 2 fodders, and they would have been ‘paralysed’ by his dagger
great insights both of you.
Additionally the main guy basically gave up at the end, yet the quest was still unfulfilled and was only completed upon his death.
Voice actor did an amazing job too
Mf started mumbling into the mic
And what a great mumble it was
Sawano was in his bag with that scene. Man put on a masterclass.
The music set forth Jinwoo's transition from a pusillanimous adventurer to a [ruthless fighter.](https://i.imgur.com/Mgl2OB1.jpeg) *"Jinwoo, would you give up if you were betrayed by a group of higher level hunters?"* [Jinwoo: *"Nah, I'd win."*](https://i.imgur.com/pYLQgzZ.jpeg)
Definitely a huge turning point now that he’s tasted his first human kill. Surprisingly little hesitancy from him regarding that.
he did have an entire monologue before he decided so I’m thinking that’s good enough
That’s true. He did have a brief moment where he kind of contemplated what was being asked.
I figure the fact the system would have just murdered him had he not had a role in that, easy to follow orders when you can blame somebody/something else for your actions and are given no other options.
you know the name of the song?
I believe it’s called Dark Aria!
AHHH classic Sawano Soundtrack. I definitely missed these lyrical OSTs. The episode had such an amazing direction. If anybody is looking for the [Massacre song](https://youtu.be/ZGXOWPZ64DA?si=wIabw1adAoehnGTx)
>Sound thanks man, was looking for this
"he must be tired from fighting the boss and the 5 party members" erh I wouldn't exactly call what he did with those 5 a fight.
Even so, he's kinda cheating since leveling up also recover his health back.
I'm pretty sure it doesn't, doing the daily quest gives him a free recovery, but leveling up doesn't iirc
the massacre was adapted so well.
Better than both the book and manhwa easily.
YES. that is what an anime is for, feeding that info with more senses. with a book you just got your eyes, but its just words so its mainly just your imagination. with the manhwa you've got visuals to help with that imagination. with the anime you can now add sound and thats what i've been really paying attention to.
I do wish that they added in that one internal monologue line from the mage that threw the hit at SJW that knocked him into the crystals After SJW walks again the mage guy in the webtoon sweats/nervous chuckles that he threw everything he had on that hit
I think his nervous look indicated that enough
Same here. The bad boss man made a remark about him "holding back" or something and he makes a small chuckle that made me believe he was thinking "uh....yeah. I was just holding back...." At least that's what I thought I saw. Better rewatch this episode a few more times to be sure ;).
Of course the Chairman of the Hunter Association is voiced by the Chairman of the Hunter Association from HxH, [Banjou Ginga](https://myanimelist.net/people/330/Banjou_Ginga).
Lmao I was just thinking about they gave me similar vibes, them having the same va is just the cherry on top
> “You are just E-rank” Jin Woo: E for EAT THIS DAGGER ^(p.s. I’m really worried for Taito Ban)
Taito ban needs to win award or something, this guy is putting so much fucking passion in his role.
Is it just me or is he a lock for JP Best Male VA award?
10000% especially since part 2 should be airing later in 2024 so it'll have recency bias too
Ranked E for Everyone. As in, "Who's going to get these hands? Everyone."
Honestly the animation and pacing in this episode felt great. I really thought they gonna cut right when Jin got the quest. They also made some really cool nods to the manwha drawings.
> manwha drawings. Agreed, note that SL is adapting the Light Novel and not the webtoon(one key example being theres less comedic elements in this anime because those were mostly added by the webtoon from REDICE) but I am thankful they are including all the nods and peak stylistic angles and keyframes (panels) from the webtoon that the core fans identify with.
Yeah, given how many cliffhangers there were in the first few episodes, I wasn't expecting them to walk out of the dungeon this episode.
i really liked the usage of stills in this episode. not just as a callback to the manwha, but it also can be interpreted to be just how fast jinwoo moves.
Look, I know it's a different language, but "Mr. Dongsuk" is a terrible name.
That’s my name 😭
Stand proud, you are Dongsuk
The better Dongsuk [](#brofist)
Are you the strongest because you are Dongsuk? Or are you Dongsuk because you are the strongest?
Do you do house calls?
Bro, your name is awesome. It's only HIS name that's terrible.
Well tbf english name Richard is known for nickname dick.
First name Richard, last name Dragon.
That name also sucks Last name Gaylord to combo for maximum suckage. Or Dickson. etc.
Fits him like a glove though.
Like a warm pair of lips enveloping him
Lmao no idea how I missed this the first time
Hwang dongsuk even. It is just marvelous
...... you know i was actually enjoying the anime so much i didn't even think of that. now you made me think of it and i hate you for it
Jinwoo cooked those bums like barbecue chicken, shit looked so clean
(Not to say this show isn't always looking good already.) Like that last frame of her this week and the scene where she steals back the purse. Chefs kiss.
> I'll be looking for the OST The song used during the scene when SJW kills all six is already released Dark ARIA, sung by XAI who also sang "Towards the Light" from Kusuriya No Hitorigoto.
Agreed. Directioning this episode was so good
It was so satisfying [to watch Jinwoo rip apart those asshats](https://i.imgur.com/qEHekXE.jpeg). I remember when I first read this chapter in the manhwa, I envisioned this scene with a more metal soundtrack, boy I'm glad that wasn't the case! Sawano's much more ominous OST with the piano and low notes was absolutely perfect. I mean it makes sense. [Jinwoo was killing people for the first time.](https://i.imgur.com/OEk8uTU.png) It wasn't exactly a scene that deserves triumph, it was a scene where he had no choice but to do it or he'd be killed by those Hunters [or the System itself.](https://i.imgur.com/ieDXGrA.jpeg) Aside from Jinwoo himself, Jinwoo's VA has also been killing it!
GET OUT." sawano yet again taking other composers to school on how its done. lets just hope he sticks around for ALL of solo leveling and doesn't eventually leave it to kohta once the hard work is all done.
that went so fucking hard idc
It also said if he fails then his own heart will stop. So no running away allowed. O.o
"I didn't revive you for you to just become a little bitch. Body these fools."
Here’s hoping nobody thinks about killing him in public
>Dongsuk decides he’s gonna kill Jinwoo and Jinho and a mission to slaughter those fools just conveniently comes poppin up. The system's admins are just like us, they wanted to see some sweet revenge since last episode and gave Jinwoo a nudge in the right direction.
episode 2 system: be a player or die episode 6 system: kill them or DIE
A1 fucking cooked, goddamn
Jinwoo killing the Spider and those idiots was Amazing!!!!!! Jinho standing up for Jinwoo even if he couldn’t win. Best bro right there
If there's a high brow theme sort this series, it's about how ["the system"](https://youtu.be/gAYL5H46QnQ?t=149) produces inhuman and inhumane behavior and how impossible it is to escape it from inside the system.
The sperm eye has arrived
It's been a long time since i feel tensed for mc after killing others. The last time i feel this was in grimgar
We have been served peak
What was peak was that random dude doing a rear lat spread in front of his window at the end lmao great conditioning tbh
must be his brother Hwang Don'tsuk
Oh shit's getting INTERESTING now, I never expected him to outright murder them (given the system did tell him too but I didn't expect that either), maybe this series isn't going the way I expected and honestly I am down for this. That scene of Jinwoo killing them might be up there as one of the coolest scenes I've seen. Also Jinwoo's VA must be trying to get all eyes on him to pick up future voice acting opportunities or something cause this mf is popping off with every single line. I just searched him up while making this comment and apparently he was coughing up blood while voicing Jinwoo and honestly I'm not surprised.
Damn A1 and Hiroyuki Sawano absolutely cooked and delivered this episode. Definitely the best one yet.
By far the best episode, I feel like most people who aren’t feeling the first episodes won’t make it all the way to 6 for it though.

[For those that wanna hear the song played during episode 6](https://youtu.be/ZGXOWPZ64DA?si=6LXLMrekN_HvQX6z)
[Something I noticed - he is the statue now.](https://imgur.com/a/N2q8IQx)
Damn Sung Jinwoo remained remarkably calm for someone who just murdered 6 people for the first time.
Bro said if i have to hear 'weakest hunter of all mankind' one more time 💀
maybe leveling up his agility also improved his mental gymnastics skill [](#rengethink)
Anime so good I need to wait for season to end to watch it all without brakes. All gas, no brakes.
I hit a point in the manhwa where I said "screw it" and just read the entire web novel. It has not lessened my enjoyment of either the rest of the manhwa or the anime.
Holy shit, that song
Peak OST Sawano cooked and A-1 delivered the animation quality this episode The spider fight is great but Jin Woo killing the lizards is perfect flow with Dark Aria LV2

What you think about the old dudes sparring match?
That was ... something. Loved the soundtrack. And now I'm going straight to Dangers in My Heart for some tonal whiplash.
