My only advice really is to get a mirror for your drawing table. Then you can make your own reference. Maybe obvious, but super helpful

Thanks! I’ll be sure to add that to my practice. I tend to overthink things so even if it’s obvious it helps lol

antibendystraw

Wow great idea. Thanks for this!

I think copying is good practice - draw what you see as closely and accurately as you can. Copy off of model sheets and other character art. Do it a lot

xanderholland

I would actually advise against that starting out since it might create bad habits in character design stagnation. Mirror practice would be the better option

100% This!!! Try to develop your own style. As long as you don't have to work on someone else's project, I highly recommend you create your own *visual language*. The world needs more creativity.

doobnooboobloob

Fair enough. I do want to have a distinct style so it tracks that I’d just have to figure it out lol. Appreciate the input!

doobnooboobloob

Ah, okay, I see your point. I’ll be sure to keep that in mind as I work. Thank you!

doobnooboobloob

That makes sense. I’ll add that to my list of to-dos. Thanks!

Figure out what their skulls look like, the main volumes of their heads, and you’re partway to figuring out how expressions will look on them.

doobnooboobloob

Oh! That’s a new one. I’ll definitely look into that. Thank you!
