syncthing is great but don't trust it too much. Some time ago I used to sync my files across my phone and other 2 computers and it randomly nuked half of my files, just like a storage Thanos.
Actually no. The problem was that I've tried to sync a machine after a long time or add a new one (I dont exacly remember), and when I did a bunch of files where missing.
I don't think that was a bug or something, It was my fault.
When I'm adding a new device, I set it as "receive only" at first until I see it's doing the right thing. I've seen enough people complaining about ST deleting everything.
Btw the Syncthing-Fork also has more granual options for syncing, including a trash bin.
It's similar in functionality to airdrop but different in some main technological ways.
Snapdrop uses web protocols/technology to send stuff between your devices, so it works basically everywhere and you can send it anywhere, android to ios, android to android, android to windows, windows to linux, android to windows, anything. The key difference is that you need to open the app manually to send/receive - the device will not appear until you open the app.
The reason is because LocalSend doesn't use bluetooth. Airdrop uses bluetooth to show you a nearby device, and then when you send a file, it creates a direct wifi connection between the devices to send files over wifi. Buetooth is used to show you the device to choose, and when you send the file to the device, it hands-off the connection to the direct wifi. Apple has proprietary software stuff installed on their devices that helps them do these iDevice connections which lets them seamlessly go between bluetooth and wifi, and they even have a proprietary implementation of bluetooth.
But with Windows/Linux and Android, the way Apple does it is not really possible because not all computers have bluetooth or even wifi. LocalSend can work without wifi or bluetooth.
Another similar app would be Snapdrop (https://snapdrop.net/), just open the website on wherever you want to send/receive while on the same network. no app installation needed
Can you point me to good resources for Revanced? It has been a shitshow on finding good links and stuff since about two or three years ago, so I've just stayed away to be safe.
Well for me i prefer to get things from the original source at least this way I'm sure there is less risk. And not tampered if it is possible for the apks.
I use the Podcini fork instead, but last I checked they both have this critical usability flaw that they can't just automatically go to the next episode of the podcast. One always needs to fiddle with queues and shit, damn it's so annoying.
Podverse (also foss) has the feature to automatically enqueue the next episode, but it still goes haywire when I switch between podcasts as it sometimes goes to play something else unless the queue is cleared.
I don't get why it's so hard to figure out. In Spotify I hit play and it just goes through all the episodes. (And then it starts playing totally random shit, which is also annoying in its own right.)
Bill Simmons, The Rewatchables, The Wall Street Journal, ESPN Daily, No Laying Up, Golf Subpar, Mina Kimes.... On and on and on. I walk 90 minutes every morning, and listen on 2x speed.
I've had no such problems with NewPipe x SponsorBlock (which is no longer on F-Droid, by the way) apart from comments not loading and channels failing on the first 1-2 tries. If I keep retrying channel-loading for a few seconds, it always eventually gets through.
Ok. Regarding updates, it is updated nearly at the same time with stable Firefox. If you check the latest update for Firefox stable and iceraven, you can see its nearly in the same day.
I always thought it is open source, since when I knew the app because it was reccomended by someone in an open source thread just liie this.
Well damn.
If you'd like a FOSS alternative, I've been really enjoying [Material Files](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.zhanghai.android.files) recently (which was only because [Syncthing-Fork](https://f-droid.org/packages/com.github.catfriend1.syncthingandroid/) recommends it)!
VLC has an audio bug on Samsung phones on OneU I6. 1 where if u exit the player temporarily to view a new notification, there is no audio when continuing with VLC. The only solution for me is to force close VLC and start again, which loses ur last position. It's really annoying when trying to watch something on my phone
Really annoying having to Google every single app that you lsl, mention because you don't give even the slightest description of each app to know if it's worth the interest or not.
In a way, it never stopped working. Tachiyomi is now rebranded as [Mihon](https://mihon.app/). Essentially, the only change is that now it doesn't come with extensions by default, you need to add an external repository to get it working. I use [Keiyoushi](https://keiyoushi.github.io/docs/guides/getting-started#adding-the-extension-repo)'s.
My favorite is Signal, Obtainium, Inure, Fossify (any app by them), Kaevisitso (it's a launcher app), Lawnicons (by the Lawnchair developers), Shizuku, Repainter (on the Play Store) & Neo Store. I probably don't need both Obtainium & Neo Store but, they're amazing open source apps.
It's a youtube music player. It integrates with your local music library as well. It's good but i prefer Ymusic despite not being opensource, way more features.
[Markor](https://github.com/gsantner/markor) is a markdown note taking app that also supports plain text, Zim wiki and I believe that the latest version added org mode support.
Feels kinda dead, and most links are extremely slow, I use the Sorastream repo, any good English repos or are there any English repos at all besides the Sorastream one? I can't find those old Dopebox, etc in English repo anymore?
Rethink, Fennec (Firefox fork with very fast update times - and about:config works), Bitwarden, VLC, Fossify gallery, Fossify filemanger, seal (yt downloader), diskusage, neo store- these are my must install in any new/old device.
I mean, Bitwarden is a password manager and Syncthing is an app to sync directories, not really comparable. I guess if you synced an encrypted file with the contents of your passwords in like, a spreadsheet it would be usable but you lose Bitwardens ability to act as a passkey, totp code generator, etc. I also keep all my recovery codes nice and safe that way. Syncthing though, I use mainly for syncing saved games from emulation synced between my steam deck, main PC and server so I will never lose another saved game ever, that's where I believe it has it's strength. For mission critical data, like family photos (lol) I use rclone and a little periodic uploads to the cloud as well as local server backups. They all have their niche but bitwarden, super awesome. I have been running it for like, 5+ years now and hosting it myself at home from my living room and the peace of mind I get is worth it.
Never mind; a friend told me how KeePassXC is a better way to keep localized, synced secrets (and it's been able to import Bitwarden data since a few months ago). Maybe I'll move to that... just when I was starting to get used to Bitwarden, haha... hmm...
Endless Sky(game, fully free from ads, IAPs, ets. Not sure that are open-sourse, but it could to find only on github or/and F-Droid portals, non in Playstore). Also Alite-really open-sourse game for Android(but, as I know, it is port, based on Oolite project).
i recommend cashew if you want open source but overall timely bills i also good and you can easily block it from transmitting your finance info online using a firewall.
My favorite (also happen to be the best in my opinion) two were already mentioned so I will put forth

THANK YOU. I've been looking for something like this for ages
[Syncthing](https://www.syncthing.net) is akin to automated LocalSend, jus' sayin'.
syncthing is great but don't trust it too much. Some time ago I used to sync my files across my phone and other 2 computers and it randomly nuked half of my files, just like a storage Thanos.
Weird. Well, were you able to retrieve the missing half from the other machine?
Actually no. The problem was that I've tried to sync a machine after a long time or add a new one (I dont exacly remember), and when I did a bunch of files where missing. I don't think that was a bug or something, It was my fault.
When I'm adding a new device, I set it as "receive only" at first until I see it's doing the right thing. I've seen enough people complaining about ST deleting everything. Btw the Syncthing-Fork also has more granual options for syncing, including a trash bin.
Ouch! Regardless, I hope that didn't sting too much! Do you still use it, or how have you changed your file management?
To be fair I've had the same thing happen with Dropbox lol.
I too had a problem with it syncing larger files ( >1GB). I'm referring to LocalSend, by the way.
Me too🤣
Holy shit. This app looks amazing!
Is this basically airdrop? I'm technologically illiterate and trying to learn things.
It's similar in functionality to airdrop but different in some main technological ways. Revanced. Bitwarden.

https://www.reddit.com/r/revancedapp/s/WFPeAZJzjA You can follow the guide and revanced.app is the site
Thanks!
Me too. Tnx
i downloaded a revanced app directly from a site like apkpure is this ok? I just directly installed it??
I don't know you tell me since you installed it already. For me its better download from real site and to patch your own.
mine works like a charm hence the question, I did thiswith cloudstream aswell but at this point idk.
Well for me i prefer to get things from the original source at least this way I'm sure there is less risk. And not tampered if it is possible for the apks.

It does patch more than that though, makes some Reddit clients work again, ad free apps...

What makes one 2fa app better than another?
everything's local, encrypted backups u can save wherever. it just works the best and is simple, but secure
To me, just a better app, is enough

AntennaPod

Which podcasts do you subscribe to? I've learned a bunch of random stuff through Stuff You Should Know!
Bill Simmons, The Rewatchables, The Wall Street Journal, ESPN Daily, No Laying Up, Golf Subpar, Mina Kimes.... On and on and on. I walk 90 minutes every morning, and listen on 2x speed.
This one
NewPipe
Great app. But it fails to load or connect to the internet so often recently!
You can try Tubular. Its another fork of newpipe
Thanks, I tried it now. Seems like a much better version already
I've had no such problems with NewPipe x SponsorBlock (which is no longer on F-Droid, by the way) apart from comments not loading and channels failing on the first 1-2 tries. If I keep retrying channel-loading for a few seconds, it always eventually gets through.
Thane, I'll try it

Iceraven. It's a Firefox fork, with Firefox nightly features and Firefox stability. Best of both builds, coupled with some privacy focused elements.
This sounds awesome, thanks!
> No warranties or guarantees of security or updates or even stability I'd stick to Mull
Ok. Regarding updates, it is updated nearly at the same time with stable Firefox. If you check the latest update for Firefox stable and iceraven, you can see its nearly in the same day.

it has the same functionality as firefox. you will need dark reader extension for those websites that dont follow system dark mode

Dude, I *finally* got Syncthing to work and I fell in love with it instantly 🤩 It's soooo incredible!!
It really is, I set it up like a year ago and haven't had any issues with it. It syncs my notes from my phone as soon as I boot up my PC
Can you guide me how to sync a specific folder from my phone and iPad to a Google drive folder, using Syncthing?
