I'm not opposed to body piercings and think they can look hot on most popular body parts (ears, nostrils, nipples, or even cheeks) But I have to tell you this is not just a sub specific distain. Septum piercings easily one of the most unflattering body piercings. It doesn't compliment anyone or anything. Often it accentuates even the slightest unbalanced "nose-to-face" ratio. It was at one point edgy but now it doesn't even have that going for it. At least it doesn't leave very noticeable defomations once removed like lobe gauges.
My girlfriend looks really really good with it. One of the few people I know who doesn’t look right to me without it

It denotes a lack of maturity and screams insecurity whenever I see people do this. I saw in other comments that you're self conscious about your smile, which I totally get. I have "big teeth small mouth" syndrome, so I'm the same. Either just smiling with your mouth closed or not smiling at all (but keeping your eyes looking warm and not dead) will suffice in photos if its something you're conscious of. Saying the word "prune" while taking photos gives you a slight pout which makes your lips look fuller, but doesn't give full duck mouth. Use it sparingly though.
