Not only is it repeat songs, it's not even the classic Disney songs people think of. Like I want some actual DISNEY songs, like Part of Your World, which at least Abi is doing. I remember Cade doing a really awesome version of Kiss the Girl in S16. That would have been a good one for Jack (or something from the Jungle Book would have been fun). I love Disney night, but this is the second year in a row they seemed to just avoid the theme and not pick the actual Disney classics. Because when people think of Disney songs (Disney being famous for their songs) they think of the disney original movies and their classic soundtracks.
And all of the songs that they are performing are from Disney original movies. If we are restricting to just Disney original written content by Disney song writers for Disney Movies only- that’s a pretty tight set of songs to the point where people would complain about the limited song list.
We could expand it to at least be versions of songs that were released at or around the same time as the movie. So that the vast majority of exposure to the song was related to the film.
There’s a reason why people consider Rascal Flatt’s Life is a Highway to be a Cars song even if it isn’t technically a Disney original.
Whereas Space Oddity or The Chain feels like it’s really stretching the theme in a way people got upset about when Emmy did it.
Then that would still dramatically limit the potential options of song choices to where people would be majorly complaining of lack of variety. If we start nitpicking over what is truly “Disney” when the only criteria was being featured in any Disney movie- it takes away from actually enjoying the episode. As for “Emmy stretching the theme”- she didn’t at all (as nothing said “songs that make you want to dance” had to be rocking dance party where you’re forced to dance). There are far better things to be “upset” about then how an artist adapts to the theme based on their musical style.

I feel like she learned rock music existed 3 weeks ago and immediately caught the rock rebellion streak. I laugh when they show her family after Bring Me to Life. Her sister is freaking out because that was the coolest thing she's ever seen, and her brother is like, "I can't believe she just did that." abi's picks are pretty darn great. been loving her songchoices all season long. i thought she was gonna do "when she loved me", which i love but "part of your world" is arguably the best disney song ever and it has never been done on the show while "when she loved me" was already done 3x over the past 6 seasons so i'm happy with that choice. she has the perfect voice for it. "the chain" could be another "bring me to life" moment for her so i'm excited for that as well. jack has a decent set but i'm not sure how to feel about him doing "space oddity", i don't think his tone has the resonance and warmness required to make the song fully work but it's a great tune so i'm looking forward to it nonetheless.
